[Bug 1926652] Re: gedit on launch shows only an image of the desktop

2021-04-29 Thread Sharad
Yes, it does seem similar to #1760818.

.xinputrc has a line:

run_im xim

I will try commenting that out and then see if it fixes the problem

... that seemed to fix it, although I'm now getting a "Failed to load
module "canberra-gtk-module" " message.

[Bug 1926652] [NEW] gedit on launch shows only an image of the desktop

2021-04-29 Thread Sharad
Public bug reported:

gedit opens, but all that is displayed in the app window is an image
that is the content of the desktop behind the app's window. I am unable
to open any files to edit them or type in the gedit window

Could this be a graphics driver or desktop issue?

[Bug 1537455] Re: installer does not work, quits on language chooser (Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 daily)

2016-04-22 Thread Sharad Chand
The stable release of Ubuntu 16.04 still has the issue. I am not able to
install. When I use ubiquity --automatic, then it shows ubi-partman
return status 10 error. Tried to fix this using nodmraid. Still didn't
work. Ubuntu has become inaccessible.

[Bug 1445867] [NEW] Wifi disconnection repeatedly

2015-04-19 Thread Sharad Chand
Public bug reported:

Wifi is being disconnected repeatedly. It happens mostly while using apt-get.
Sometimes using the web. Once it starts to happen, the wifi disconnects
repeatedly with no reason.
And i cannot reconnect to the wifi by switching the wifi hardware on and off.
I have to use: 'systemctl restart NetworkManager.service' to use the wifi
again. I used this command twice while reporting this bug.
This started to happen after updating Ubuntu 15.04 yesterday (19th April).

Even if the reveal sensitivity is high, the launcher does not appear
instantly. Would be better if it were to behave like docky.

2011-01-06 Thread Sharad
After reporting this issue, I reinstalled Ubuntu about 4 times with a clean
format of harddisk. But this time I installed Ubuntu 10.10 directly. No
problems now in the OS so far.

Whatever information i had during that upgrade, I've already posted.
Now I'm on a clean install of Ubuntu 10.10
So no problems faced during the install.

Thanks

2009-07-19 Thread Sharad Jain
Also, happens on Jaunty 9.04 (Kernel: 2.6.28-13-generic)

I am trying to perform git clone ssh://another-ubuntu-linux-9.04
-machine-on-lan/var/git/project.git).

I believe, the process has to do with ssh connection that downloads lots
of data from one machine to another. My personal laptop is Toshiba U305
on wireless and server machine (git-host) is Thinkpad T61 - ubuntu on
wired network - both connected thru Linksys router.

[Bug 306287] Re: Offline upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 fails (using kubuntu 8.10 alternate iso)

2008-12-08 Thread Sharad Popli
Hello and thanks for your responses.

@ Jean-Baptiste Lallement:
It didn't work. However we now possibly have a different error.

/var/log/dist-upgrade# grep -i error *
main.log:2008-12-09 12:14:14,645 DEBUG svg pixbuf loader failed (Error
displaying image)
main.log:2008-12-09 12:14:19,428 DEBUG running doUpdate() (showErrors=False)
main.log:2008-12-09 12:14:28,493 DEBUG running doUpdate() (showErrors=True)
main.log:2008-12-09 12:16:43,846 ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'A essential
package would have to be removed'

Some relevant lines from main.log:
2008-12-09 12:16:15,498 DEBUG Marking 'ubuntu-desktop' for upgrade
2008-12-09 12:16:15,509 DEBUG Marking 'kubuntu-desktop' for upgrade
2008-12-09 12:16:16,503 DEBUG metapkg 'ubuntu-desktop' installed but
markedDelete
2008-12-09 12:16:16,504 DEBUG metapkg 'ubuntu-desktop' installed but
markedDelete
2008-12-09 12:16:16,535 DEBUG The package 'ubuntu-desktop' is marked for
removal but it's in the removal blacklist
2008-12-09 12:16:43,846 ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'A essential package would
have to be removed'

Some historical context that may be useful. This was a clean Ubuntu 8.04
install and the kubuntu-desktop part was later added via the Internet.
Now, I'm trying to offline upgrade using the
kubuntu-8.10-alternate-i386.iso (from the HD itself mounted using the
loopback option)

The logs are attached.

@ JonCharge:
I'm not sure what you mean. Are you asking about the hard disk partitions? If
so, here is the relevant output of df -h:

FilesystemSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/vg1-root 12G 5.2G 6.2G 46% /
/mnt/vbox/down/kubuntu-8.10-alternate-i386.iso
  696M 696M 0 100% /media/cdrom0

Anything else?

Re: [ubuntu-in] SSH Forwarding how to?

2008-03-27 Thread sharad
Had something similar experience in my company where I needed to access
the mysql database(A) but the permission was from a specific server(B) .
My application resided on another server (C) and needed to connect to
the db . I tunnelled in the following way from my app server (C)

ssh -Nf -L 3306:A:3306 B

Re: [ubuntu-in] AMD Turion X2 64 and Ubuntu

Hi,

Faced a similar situtation on my Compaq V6211AU . Had to enable -noacpi
in kernel boot options.

 Hello guys!

 I am Navneet Sreeraman. I have a Compaq V6102TU laptop that I
purchased in November 2006. I tried installing Linux in the
machine and my natural choice was Ubuntu. But the LiveCD never
boots in the first attempt. Also my laptop does not boot any other
Debian distro successfully. It either installs and then fails to
boot from the hard drive or never loads ata all.

Try giving -noapic and -irqroll kernel boot optins.
If that does not work, you will have to install Ubuntu using the text
installer, i.e, using the Alternate Ubuntu CD. I had to do that.

 Thanks,

 Hi

are there any browerser / mail clients (or mail client modes) that will
work at 14.4 kbps net connections.

Reason i have a winmodem that is using the free version of an hfsmodem
driver that is restricted to 14.4 kbps. So till i can get the full
version wanted to freek ;) out on the 14.4 kbps connection

Also are there any tools that can help me monitor an internet connection
(basically speed and data transferred). Would *nload* be good for this

 thanks

 Hi

 First Bug (or some problem)

Everytime i insert an external usb disk (pen drive, external harddisk
etc) the icon that pops up automatically usually (often but not always)
hides behind an existing icon on the desktop.

Second problem - while trying to unmount a external usb pen drive, hard
disk i get the error unable to eject device everytime. Initially i
thought it was becuase some operation was in progress but this happens
even if all the windows and any operations have been completed.

I also face the same issue when I try umounting my ipod. I nowadays go
for umount rather than using the eject option.

 any ideas.

 thanks
 ram
PS - people might wonder why i am not googling, well the problem is am
subsisting on an internet connection that varies between 16 to 25 kbps
and its difficult to browse always.

I have recently discovered that the Ubuntu Live CD cannot be used to
upgrade!!! How do I manage an upgrade then, without downloading the
whole thing. I have a dial up connection and so, I cannot download much.

I guess then you better order the latest version from the ubuntu site.
It takes nearly 3-4 hours to upgrade from say edgy to fiesty . I am
using 256 kbps broadband at home.
