[Bug 874980] [NEW] Unity window buttons indicator violates Fitts's law
Public bug reported: The window buttons indicator violates Fitts's law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitts%27s_law) by not being clickable at the very edge of the upper (and left) screen edge. This causes massive user discomfort and a decrease in productivity due to increased time consumption by aiming the buttons with the mouse cursor. For example the user needs to follow the mouse cursor with their eyes in order to be able to hit the close button, which is a waste of precious time. In operating systems such as MS Windows one can click the X button even with their eyes closed by sliding the mouse into the screen corner. In Unity this is impossible due to the Fitts's law violation, because the buttons are not clickable at the 1-pixel wide upper and left edges. The solution is simple. Remove the unclickable edges and make it clickable everywhere. [Bug 433573] Re: Only 2 channels detected on echo3g devices
I only made a workaround in my /etc/default.pa as described in bug description ... I doubt you'll be committing that. But I would gladly try to fix the files if I at least knew which ones to look at (and it will probably take me quite a while to figure out what to change, since I'm not exactly an ALSA expert). I am guessing I probably need to make an entirely new config file for my card's chip (Motorola DSP56361 Digital Signal Processor (rev 01)), right? -- Only 2 channels detected on echo3g devices https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433573 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 433573] Re: Only 2 channels detected on echo3g devices
Got it, the config file name has to match the card name (detected by kernel/alsa?). In my case this is: Echo_Echo3G So now if I make the Echo_Echo3G.conf file, it will be parsed. So far I've used X-Fi's config file as a template, and it works. 5.1 is detected by pulseaudio automatically. All I have to do now is configure this properly then I will post the file for it to be committed. -- Only 2 channels detected on echo3g devices https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433573 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: - The new Human theme's Human controls use scrollbars that have borders on maximized windows (Firefox, Nautilus, ...) + The new Human theme's Human controls in Ubuntu Karmic use scrollbars that have borders on maximized windows (Firefox, Nautilus, ...) This violates Fitts's law ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitts%27s_law ) and creates annoyance for the user, because they are unable to grab the scroll by moving the mouse cursor to the edge of the screen - instead aiming a little to the left is required. The scroll in Human theme has a 2-pixel wide border. Also attaching image where the border is clearly marked. ** Description changed: The new Human theme's Human controls in Ubuntu Karmic use scrollbars that have borders on maximized windows (Firefox, Nautilus, ...) [Bug 433573] [NEW] Only 2 channels detected on echo3g devices
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libasound2 PulseAudio only detects 2 channels (stereo) instead of 6 (or more, depending on your hardware). Using module-udev-detect, my 6-channel sound card (Echo Audio Gina 3G) is detected only as a stereo device, even though the daemon.conf setting default-sample-channels is set to 6. The workaround to resolve the issue is manually adding the alsa sink as follows: load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:0,0 tsched=0 load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:0,1 tsched=0 Of course that defeats the purpose for even having PulseAudio, because now I have to make sure the sound card always gets the same index (still problematic in Ubuntu, because other devices may take over index 0) and the udev-detect module cannot be used afterwards, because it doesn't understand that this sink has already been defined manually and therefore duplicates it (as stereo). However, this is NOT A PULSEAUDIO problem. It is a problem with Alsa (particularly the asound library). As stated in this comment: http://pulseaudio.org/ticket/648#comment:3 the users pace definition in /usr/share/alsa/cards/ for echo3g cards appears to be missing. To fix this bug the right definition has to be written for Echo Audio 3G cards. ** Affects: alsa-lib (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Only 2 channels detected on echo3g devices https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433573 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 352159] Re: Sound stopped working after recent upgrade Jaunty beta
Another update: It's actually a bit more weird. Turns out the USB device had little or nothing to do with this. Here is what I do to restore pulseaudio: killall rhythmbox ; pulseaudio -k ; rm -r ~/.pulse* ; pulseaudio -v ; pulseaudio -D For some reason, after I remove all the ~/.pulse* stuff it will crash the first time it is ran, but succeed the second time. Also even with this, it sometimes still crashes randomly, but at least I can get it working. Now, what caused this: I suspect the last system update because this wasn't happening before it. I am attaching the apt logfile. ** Attachment added: Update that probably caused this http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31017747/update-that-broke-it.txt -- Sound stopped working after recent upgrade Jaunty beta https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/352159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 352159] Re: Sound stopped working after recent upgrade Jaunty beta
This happens to me with or without tsched=0 Pulseaudio doesn't even start up, even if I wipe ~/.pulse and ~/.pulse-cookie. I have 3 audio cards: * Echo Audio Gina 3G * Intel ICH [ALi M5455] * USB Device 0x47f:0xad01 The USB device is the USB converter for my Plantronics headset. Here's what I did to solve this: I unplugged the USB audio device, then started pulseaudio, then plugged the USB adapter back. And now it works. One last thing I would like to mention is that this started happening after I had added this line to my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file: options snd-echo3g index=0 I had to do this to force the card to always use index 0 (and I had to do this because pulseaudio doesn't detect it automatically and I have to add it manually in default.pa). Maybe it has something to do with this. ** Attachment added: Pulseaudio crash output http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31017404/pulse-crash.txt -- Sound stopped working after recent upgrade Jaunty beta https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/352159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 415582] [NEW] Asus DRW-1608P2S unable to burn DVDs
Public bug reported: Asus DRW-1608P2S DVD-RW burner destroys all DVDs, no matter what burning software is used. K3b for example gives out a write error upon completing the burning. There are no messages in dmesg. Burning CDs works, but I have not been able to write a single DVD since around Ubuntu 6.04 (can't remember exactly which version). Also, while burning CDs or DVDs the computer becomes virtually unusable, because of some kind of lag. The CPU never gets above 10%, but the system acts as if some process was using all of the CPU power. Assuming it is a DMA issue.
