As long as you explain them that burning a CD is legal, CD-R's are
evenly well as the printed ones. If cost is a problem, you can ask
your 'customers' to bring an empty CD-R in return.

Even with an old account, you can't request more than 2 CD's. I don't have
any karma on Launchpad ;)

[Ubuntu-be] Obtaining install cd's

2008-01-21 Thread Bert Claes
hi everyone,

I've registered myself as an Ubunut support-point, where one can also obtain
installation-cd's. It seems I am located in an area where there wasn't
anyone yet (centre of sint-niklaas), because I've gotten about seven
requests already for install-cd's or some explanation.

What I was wondering:

Is there any way I can get more official install-cds or should I just (as I
am doing now) keep on giving out CD-Rs of DVD-Rs with the downloaded ISOs?
It seems so fake :)

Is there a guideline on how to promote Ubuntu for a casual end-user? I am
just wondering...

Much regards

Hoi,

You can order CDs for free at shipit.ubuntu.com, you can also buy 20 CDs for
about 25€ at https://shop.canonical.com/. But, imho, CD-R are fine for most
people. It may even help them to understand the freely-(re)distributable
facet of free software, once you explain them it's 100% legal (unlike the
Windows CD they got from some friends).

There is a basic manual for support points at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/SupportPoints

hello

since I did some bug triaging and translating on launchpad I can request
10cd's at once when I'm loged in to shipit with my launchpad account...
and I say some, since I really didn't do much...
it might be a boost to get some more involved, but I discovered it the
other way around...

Everybody can request 10 CDs from shipit.

No

It used to be like that, but it's changed.
When you log with a new account you get:
1 Ubuntu CD (1 PC Edition)
1 Ubuntu CD (1 64-bit PC Edition)
One for me, One for a friend
2 Ubuntu CDs (1 PC Edition, 1 64-bit PC Edition)

When I log in with the account where I got some karma with on launchpad
I get this message:
The Ubuntu community would like to thank you for your contributions to
the Ubuntu project. In recognition of this, we offer you an expanded set
of options for your ShipIt request.

And an additional option to order
10 Ubuntu CDs (8 PC Edition, 2 64-bit PC Edition)

That is, for Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon)...

greetings,
Jens
