+1 on using t-shirts that are friendly to humans & the environment
(or at least as friendly as possible...)

They are not cheaper than brandless t-shirts, but for sure there have
been issues with those companies (e.g. at the FotL factory in Morocco,
women & girls had to work > 12h/day with the factory doors literally
locked--imagine what happens in such circumstances when there is a
fire...).

I'm not sure how "clean" they are these days though.

2010-05-31 Thread Dirk Tas
Hallo

'chinese' methode's geproduceerd is.

Re: [Ubuntu-be] Print our own T-shirs

2010-05-31 Thread Pierre Buyle
Hi,

No, I don't know about http://www.stedman.eu/. They have a "daclared"
Business ethics which looks good
(http://www.stedman.eu/Business-ethics/). The easiest way to check it
further is to call them to ask them precise information on how and
where they product are made and any guarantee they may have about the
respect of their business ethics. I don't know much, but I'm sure any
really "responsible" business producing "fair" goods is/should be able
to have an independent organization to control and validate their
fairness of those of their producer. From various sources, I've often
heard that "non-clean" business are usually reluctant to give any
information that could lead identification of their to producer, if
not openly aggressive about it.

Now, the price list at
http://www.t-shirts-bedrukken.be/t-shirts-bedrukken_prijzen_t-shirts.html
is unclear about the actual brand. It appears they also uses B&C tee.
AFAIK, B&C (http://www.bc-collection.eu) is not fair-trade or
eco-friendly. I believe B&C and Fruit of the Loom (another brand) to
be the cheapest producer. I would be (happily) surprised if Stedman
respect its business ethics and match their prices.

Hi,

My two cents about cheap t-shirts... Usually, cheap comes with a
price. Where does the blank tshirts come from and in what condition
were they produced ? I guess the seller won't be able,or doesn't want
to to tell. Chances are that they were produced in a country with
none, or very low, social protection for workers and without any
respect for the environment. Now, you may be disrupted and annoyed and
feel I'm hijacking An Ubuntu(-be) related discussion with something
totally unrelated. I don't think I'm. To me, Free Software and Ubuntu
are about freedom and respect for all, not only for wealthy software
users. So I think I have to share these facts in this thread. I think
they are important when making the kind of decisions discussed here.
You may disagree and you may not care, this is your choice and this is
not the place to argue it. So I'll cut it here, let you make your own
decisions and won't interfere further.

not be perfect but surely better than many other producers. I don't
know for their other products.
PPS: I'm sure you can get social and environment friendly printed tee
in Belgium, but they will cost more than the 4€/tee.

[Ubuntu-be] Print our own T-shirs

2010-05-30 Thread Ward De Ridder
Hello everyone

I was surfing a litle bit on the internet, and I found this:
http://www.t-shirts-bedrukken.be/
Print 100 white T-shirts for €249 (I have to figure out if VAT (BTW) is
included, but it's a nice price anyway)
Wouldn't it be great to print our own ubuntu t-shirts, the shirts from the
ubuntu shop are rather expensive, and if we can sell t-shirs for €4 (with a
litle profit for ubuntu-be) I thing this will sell very well (for example @
fosdem). We can even make a slightly different design.
I don't have much time now, but in 2 weeks I will have plenty of time to
search for other t-shirt print services, to compare prices, and to make a
design to print on the t-shirts.
Most people @fosdem buy white or black t-shirts with only an ubuntu logo,
they are not for sale at the canonical store at the moment, and they cost us
at least €10.

Let me know if you are interested!
