Re: [Ubuntu-be] ubuntu cd/dvd
Hi Martijn, Just wondering... what's your status on this event? Next Thursday (or if you're not available August 4th) we'd like to hear a little status update on this. Could you be present on the meeting? I didn't get any feedback on the installment meeting - did this happen? Grtz, Jurgen. Here's the steps I've taken before (from the top of my head, so might not be 100% accurate): 1. mount the iso in eg /mnt/iso 2. mount the squashfs in eg /mnt/squashfs 3. change the squashfs 4. recompile the suqashfs 5. change the iso using an iso tool 6. test I used this setup to created a customized installation cd for my client, using RedHat. Hi all, Using UCK does not provide a lot of possibilities. I've received this dvd by mail today. It's size is 3.4 GB so it's a normal DVD. I think they created it using casper and some other things: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomizationFromScratch https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization Since you have to include grub I think it should be possible to add different bootable distro's. On the dvd there is a directory for every distro containing vmlinuz, initrd.lz and filesystem.squashfs. The last one contains the contents of the distro. Anyone who would like to join forces and try to create such a cd/dvd. Hey list, I just got the preview mail of the new Linux Magazine (to which I'm subscribed). It comes with a DVD with Ubuntu Six Pack (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Mythbuntu, Ubuntu Rescue Mix) Maybe we can look and learn :) Here's a link: http://www.linux-magazine.com/Issues/2011/128/Ubuntu-11.04-Sixpack-DVD (also a nice place to get a trial, or subscribe to the magazine) Grtz, Jurgen. Re: [Ubuntu-be] ubuntu cd/dvd
Hey bram, I suppose you could just add the packages kubuntu-desktop, edubuntu-desktop and then install 2 times (1x 32bit and 1x 64bit). I'm not sure how big this would be, and neither if it's possible to make a grub for that. I'll check Linux User Developer Magazine later today. They've got a DVD with 3 Distro's every month.Hopefully I'll be able to figure out how they put those on DVD. As for Customization/Personalization, I propose we kick the engine on the customized U-be iso. I've put the subject on the AGENDA for tonight.I'm have no doubt there are some people on this ML who'd love to help, creating that ISO with you. I'm not sure what is the most effective approach here: - 32bit version with X-L-K-Ed-Ubuntu- 64bit version with X-L-K-Ed-Ubuntu OR - 32bit Kubuntu- 32bit Ubuntu- 32bit Edubuntu- 64bit Kubuntu- 64bit Ubuntu- 64bit Edubuntu About that second option: Would it be possible to put all the packages on the cd only once per Xbit version?http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/19216/ is also thinking about that..-- ubuntu-be mailing list / mailto:ubuntu-be@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-be

Well that would be the case if we go for the first approach.. But you can't go into x64 from an x86 and vice versa.. how to solve that? maybe interesting for some: Ubuntu + extra's - 'mint' ubuntu + lot's of extra's - 'pinguy' the following article will explain what it has added to the default ubuntu iso and how it looks like : http://www.techdrivein.com/2011/01/linux-mint-vs-pinguy-os-review.html http://www.techdrivein.com/2011/01/linux-mint-vs-pinguy-os-review.htmlit requires at least an usb stick of 2gbyte as the iso is 1,3gbyte it has a lot of more packages installed (bloated)... but if you like to impress people with visible features? it's not interesting for people with an old computer... it hits your memory resources quiet good also interesting is : http://ubuntuclips.org/ -- ubuntu-be mailing list / mailto:ubuntu-be@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-be

personally I wouldn't put a lot extra GUI stuff in there.Since supporting Ubuntu is our main goal, our local distro should still look n feel like Ubuntu. But a decent amount of extra apps would be nice indeed (VLC for starters) :) Date: Thu, 26 May 2011 15:25:59 +0200 From: ste...@leeman.be To: ubuntu-be@lists.ubuntu.com Subject: Re: [Ubuntu-be] ubuntu cd/dvd maybe interesting for some: Ubuntu + extra's - 'mint'ubuntu + lot's of extra's - 'pinguy'the following article will explain what it has added to the default ubuntu iso and how it looks like : http://www.techdrivein.com/2011/01/linux-mint-vs-pinguy-os-review.html it requires at least an usb stick of 2gbyte as the iso is 1,3gbyteit has a lot of more packages installed (bloated)... but if you like to impress people with visible features? it's not interesting for people with an old computer... it hits your memory resources quiet good also interesting is : http://ubuntuclips.org/ -- ubuntu-be mailing list / mailto:ubuntu-be@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-be -- ubuntu-be mailing list / mailto:ubuntu-be@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-be
