[Bug 46844] Re: [Bug 46844] Re: Dapper RC freeze during update
I looked at those steps for an existing bug of mine, but did not "Save Changes". I don't think I _should_ have the authority to close the bug. In fact, it looks like I can also close someone else's bug. That's great if there haven't been any problems (nice people and all), but I would think only developers who commit code changes should have that authority. On the flip side: I reported a bug at apple.com's bug reporter. I say their Software Update on Mac OSX did not report that Xcode 2.3 was available when I was on Xcode 2.2. Their developer said it is the intended behavior and closed the bug. Isn't that a joke? They would not even clarify if it was because Xcode was a separate install from the base installation. Synaptic reports on non-Ubuntu specific software and Apple can't report on their own software? Needless to say, it was a frustrating conversation with my hands tied. An example of too open versus too closed. I saw this tapping issue after a recent update on an IBM ThinkPad T41 running Dapper. Any fix yet? MaxTapTime was already set previously, and somehow, things broke after we updated. It appears that something got really broken between the update a few weeks ago, and the recent update like a week and a half ago. Hrm... Any ETA on a fix yet? [Bug 35203] Re: [Bug 35203] Re: nautilus crashing with smb backend
Hello! On Sat, Jul 29, 2006 at 03:18:53PM -, Sebastien Bacher wrote: > do you still have issue with dapper? Yes, I see the following: On a Samba server, I have some ``volumes'' that are publically accessible and the users's home directories which are protected by a password. If I open Nautilus on that Samba server, ``smb://server/'', I see the publically accessible volumes, but not the home directories (like it has always been, strangely). Now to the interesting part: if I -- after going to ``smb://server/'' -- directly do a C-l and change ``smb://server/'' to ``smb://server/thomas/'' (i.e. my home directory) then Nautilus crashes reproducibly. But it doesn't crash if I first go to some other volume, say ``smb://server/music/'', and then C-l and change the path to ``smb://server/thomas/''. [Bug 54501] Re: Give help in the default Web page
I've spent approximately 10 seconds looking through it. I'm no closer to knowing how to get MP3s to play. 20 seconds more time and I've managed (based on prior knowledge, mind you) to find the instructions on adding codecs to gstreamer. There are several problems here: - I know what a codec is; most people I know do not. - I still don't see anything about fonts. I recall not having the font Times New Roman and such making interoperability with Windows difficult re my Resumé looked like crap. - The docs don't make straight recommendations; some of them say OpenOffice.org is installed but you may want to install AbiWord and Gnumeric, or that you can get multimedia in Firefox using totem or mplayer plug-ins - Some of the docs (for example the one about installing totem or mplayer plug-ins for Firefox) assume you've read other docs; some of those docs have way too much information A user who really doesn't know what they're doing-- for example, first- time Linux user -- is going to look at this and say, "Gee. Linux is really hard to use, I have to read all this complicated $#*@ and I still haven't figured out how to get videos to play on the web or listen to MP3s." He'll then go buy a Mac (obviously he's not into Windows). In short, we already have the equivalent of the Windows Help File.
