[Bug 46844] Re: [Bug 46844] Re: Dapper RC freeze during update

2006-07-29 Thread DA_lpn
I looked at those steps for an existing bug of mine, but did not "Save
Changes".

I don't think I _should_ have the authority to close the bug. In fact, it
looks like I can also close someone else's bug. That's great if there
haven't been any problems (nice people and all), but I would think only
developers who commit code changes should have that authority.

On the flip side:
I reported a bug at apple.com's bug reporter. I say their Software Update
on Mac OSX did not report that Xcode 2.3 was available when I was on Xcode
2.2. Their developer said it is the intended behavior and closed the bug.
Isn't that a joke? They would not even clarify if it was because Xcode was
a separate install from the base installation. Synaptic reports on
non-Ubuntu specific software and Apple can't report on their own software?
Needless to say, it was a frustrating conversation with my hands tied.

An example of too open versus too closed.

[Bug 35291] Re: [EMAIL PROTECTED] does not exist

2006-07-29 Thread Daniel Pittman
I have encountered the same problem, after setting a number of system to
send reports by email. This was done through the debconf interface to
the package, which explicitly offers email as a submission method.

Since several of the machines in question can't directly submit HTTP
results, email seemed a good method to communicate these results to your
systems.

If email isn't supported then debconf for the package should be updated
to stop offering it as an option, I think.

A sample bounced message is attached.

[Bug 54080] Re: doesn't play mp3

2006-07-29 Thread Tim Butler
Installing libxine-extracodecs should have solved the problem, but I'm
only reading the documentation from the wiki and forums (as I do not use
Kaffeine or Xine).

>From looking at the package it installs "xineplug_decode_mad.so" in the
usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.1.1/ directory, but you seem to be using 1.1.2.

Just to check, are you running Ubuntu / Kubuntu 6.06 and are you
installing Xine / Kaffeine from the official repositories? All the Xine
packages I can see are using 1.1.1, hence the file is installed into
that directory.

[Bug 47971] Re: synaptics touch pad(laptop) clicks when i dont want it to

2006-07-29 Thread Kristian Hermansen
I saw this tapping issue after a recent update on an IBM ThinkPad T41
running Dapper. Any fix yet? MaxTapTime was already set previously,
and somehow, things broke after we updated. I can say that it did work
in kernel revision 2.6.15-25-386, but broke when we upgraded an booted
2.6.15-26-386. However, trying kernel 2.6.15-25-386 from GRUB does not
resolve the issue now. It appears that something got really broken
between the update a few weeks ago, and the recent update like a week
and a half ago. Hrm...

Any ETA on a fix yet? Does anyone even have an idea what happened?
Could it be that it got broken in the attempt to fix the "crazy
touchpad" symptoms mentioned in June? And that the July fix broke the
ability to disable the tapping functionality?

[Bug 35203] Re: [Bug 35203] Re: nautilus crashing with smb backend

2006-07-29 Thread Thomas Schwinge
Hello!

On Sat, Jul 29, 2006 at 03:18:53PM -, Sebastien Bacher wrote:
> do you still have issue with dapper?

Yes, I see the following:

On a Samba server, I have some ``volumes'' that are publically accessible
and the users's home directories which are protected by a password. If I
open Nautilus on that Samba server, ``smb://server/'', I see the
publically accessible volumes, but not the home directories (like it has
always been, strangely).

Now to the interesting part: if I -- after going to ``smb://server/'' --
directly do a C-l and change ``smb://server/'' to
``smb://server/thomas/'' (i.e. my home directory) then Nautilus crashes
reproducibly. But it doesn't crash if I first go to some other volume,
say ``smb://server/music/'', and then C-l and change the path to
``smb://server/thomas/''.

 Thomas

Thanks for your report. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and
XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot
filesystem. The fact that the partitioner doesn't warn you about this
up-front is also bug 47848, and is fixed in Edgy.

screensaver has Collage-web screen saver as a mandatory selection, this
screen saver does not filter pictures which came from internet, then,
each time it is selected from the random list the screen get filled w/
explicit sexual images which provably are the top percent in internet.

I believe that this screen saver should be included as an optional
package or advice the user, or, let us to select which screensaver are
selectable.

Some times my child's' computer are filled with pornographic image. As
far as I understand Ubuntu does not sponsor sexual content.

Thanks,
Manuel

[Bug 54422] Re: gnome-theme-manager shows mouse icons in the "icons" section

2006-07-29 Thread kmon
Hi

I downloaded the package from the link provided above. Then I used the
mouse settings capplet from gnome to install it and use it.

The theme was installed in ~/.icons/

It includes a index.theme:

Comment=Famous OS cursors

[Bug 54509] menu disappears after clicking "edit menu"

2006-07-29 Thread Maciej Powalowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4

AMD64 xubuntu.
1. Click on "Applications" menu button
2. Go to "Edit menu" and click
3. That's it, the whole menu is gone (exept the panel button).

I chuckled to read "menu unexpectedly removed" in one of the logs.
Can't really do much now - lucky there's a Firefox button on the panel, so I
can report this at least. No idea how to get the menu back; I'm done for,
aaargh! Help.

[Bug 27771] Re: Driver for Crypto F200 ADSL usb modem

2006-07-29 Thread Vassilis Pandis
An attempt has been started to get USB ADSL modems work out of the box.
You can find more information at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/EasyUsbAdsl . A
specification has been filed but was not approved for Edgy. Not much
work has been done yet - one of the major problems is making somebody
hack gnome-system-tools' network-admin to recognise ADSL modems.

[Bug 54508] Edgy | Right clicking on a link will make the scrollbar move from right to left

2006-07-29 Thread Vassilis Pandis
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce: Visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joy_division in
Firefox, scroll down to "1979", last paragraph and right-click the
"absence seizures" link on the paragraph's second line : What I get is
that the scroll bar moves from the right to the left, whereas on most of
the other links, right click works correctly .

This is on Edgy with FF 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.4-1ubuntu2 installed. I'll check
Dapper tomorrow ...

If this is a known issue, please feel free to mark it as a duplicate. If
not, I'll try to provide a test case to reproduce this. Thanks for your
time!

[Bug 54507] Edgy | Hibernate disappeared from gdm logout

On this laptop, which can hibernate correctly with Dapper, "hibernate"
no longer appears in the gdm logout screen. I'm not exactly sure what
other information I should provide to help sort this out, so please ask
for anything you need. I was told that this is highly likely to be a
known issue and that it has been done on purpose - if so, feel free to
reject this bug. Thanks a lot for your time!

so far I'm happy with the gnome counterpart.

[Bug 54501] Re: Give help in the default Web page

2006-07-29 Thread John Moser
I've spent approximately 10 seconds looking through it. I'm no closer
to knowing how to get MP3s to play. 20 seconds more time and I've
managed (based on prior knowledge, mind you) to find the instructions on
adding codecs to gstreamer.

There are several problems here:

 - I know what a codec is; most people I know do not.
 - I still don't see anything about fonts. I recall not having the font Times
New Roman and such making interoperability with Windows difficult re my Resumé
looked like crap.
 - The docs don't make straight recommendations; some of them say
OpenOffice.org is installed but you may want to install AbiWord and Gnumeric,
or that you can get multimedia in Firefox using totem or mplayer plug-ins
 - Some of the docs (for example the one about installing totem or mplayer
plug-ins for Firefox) assume you've read other docs; some of those docs have
way too much information

A user who really doesn't know what they're doing-- for example, first-
time Linux user -- is going to look at this and say, "Gee. Linux is
really hard to use, I have to read all this complicated $#*@ and I still
haven't figured out how to get videos to play on the web or listen to
MP3s." He'll then go buy a Mac (obviously he's not into Windows).

In short, we already have the equivalent of the Windows Help File. If
you don't KNOW already what you want to do, you're NOT going to find out
how to do it.
