[Bug 54627] Re: http USER-AGENT remains unused at h.u.c
I think even we need to be careful about making functionality assumptions based on USER-AGENT. I can think of a few scenarios where the example you provide would be counter-productive. The most obvious one is someone trying to learn more before upgrading. As a corrolary to that, I run my personal workstation much closer to the bleeding edge than the workstations I support. Most of them are still on breezy. One place where I *do* see some benefit in sniffing the user-agent header is software downloads. But there's not much call for that because apt-get takes care of that issue for us. 8^) -- http USER-AGENT remains unused at h.u.c https://launchpad.net/bugs/54627 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 38336] Re: Lack of support for hotplugging and Dapper kernel
Any updates on this bug? The last post is over two months old and as far as I can tell, the problem still exists (Graphire3). Plugging in the tablet (from a cold boot) and installing as written above works, but when the tablet is unplugged, it requires a reboot to get it working again. (Much) Worse, the system will usually freeze after unplugging the tablet --this occurs on 3 different up-to-date Dapper systems. It's not a kernel panic, the mouse/KB just stop working, I can ssh in and reboot, but the local user is helpless. I haven't experimented yet with compiling the 0.74 driver from source (or the debian sid repos), but I have a feeling it would work. Please splurge for an internal test unit. There have been more than enough user bug reports over many months/years. For sale on eBay and other places. [Bug 22336] Re: laptop overheats when performing CPU intensive tasks.
I run ubuntu and debian on the same laptop. ubuntu crashes if I use the CPU for more than a few minutes at a time, debian doesn't. I can tell when ubuntu is about to power down because the fan in the laptop starts running at full speed continuously, making quite a loud noise, whereas in debian the fan alternates between full speed and something slower. It's as if debian is noticing that the fan isn't able to cool the CPU enough and does something to make the CPU generate less heat, whereas ubuntu doesn't. What are the significant differences between ubuntu and debian with regards to the CPU speed management? Hopefully I can find a way of either reproducing the problem in debian, or making it disappear in ubuntu - but what should I tinker with? -- laptop overheats when performing CPU intensive tasks. https://launchpad.net/bugs/22336 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

They're really slow and jumpy, where they used to be as smooth as... well, something smooth. [Bug 23336] Re: Battery status don't work correctly on IBM Thinkpad R30
The results you gave from /proc/acpi/battery and from HAL seem consistent to me. It clearly indicates that once the battery charged your laptop stops using the AC and works on battery. Did you notice anything that can actually confirm this ? It looks like a hardware bug or a BIOS misconfiguration. We could as well suspect the Linux kernel. Do you have any other operating system you could try on ? [Bug 54871] Dapper install partitioning tool fails on uncommon extened partitions
Public bug reported: I've tried last week to install Dapper Drake over my Breezy Whatever test installation on my hda8. Installation failed however at the partitioning step, because I meanwhile modified my hard disk partitioning table. NOTE: This is not a bug report, just a complaint. Bug won't happen for a enough users to be worth to fix. DETAILS: I had an orphaned/unlinked main (MBR) partition, which starts at the cylinder boundary, like all main partitions. Since all four slots were however occupied meanwhile, but I wanted to access the data on it, I had to hack it into the extended partitions chain. Partitions in the extendeds chain now typically start at a head boundary (63 sectors later than a main partition in one of the four MBR slots would), because the entry for a (type 0x05 / 0x85) extended partition chain table already occupies the sector at the cylinder boundary. So that made me add/introduce it as my new /dev/hda9 into the extpart table of /dev/hda8. Typically an extpart table only contains one real subpartition and an optional link to another extpart table, whereas my new one contained two real subpartitions instead. And now here's the story: Besides the uncommonnes of this partitioning sheme, the Linux kernel very well can access all my partitions (hda1 to hda9). Vanilla fdisk however can only detect up to hda8 and discards the hda9 entry as garbage (and would dispose it onto saving back a new mbr with its extpart chain), because it only expects/handles one real subpartition per extpart table. The Dapper Drake install partitioning tool however, COMPLETELY FAILS and discards all my partitions - unlike the kernel and fdisk which provided a graceful fallback at least. Now obviously, a setup tool can't match itself with an operating system in terms of functionality and support for such convoluted pseudo-standards as x86 partitioning. But I'm somewhat disappointed nevertheless here, because this reveals another unneeded case of wheeloritis or NIH syndrome. If fdisk already supports partitioning in a sane way, then why was its proved and more reliable code not reused for the Dapper setup/partitioning tool? HOW TO FIX: Please repost into appropriate subprojects bugreport list. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Dapper install partitioning tool fails on uncommon extened partitions https://launchpad.net/bugs/54871 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
