[Bug 53878] Re: Screen is distorted for a few seconds at X startup shutdown

2006-08-03 Thread A . Mußmann-Köster
I've checked wether usplash is the cause by deactivating usplash. is has
definetly nothing to do with usplash.
It only appears at Xorg startup or if you switch back to gdm. But I've also
seen this bug on kubuntu with kdm.

[Bug 54003] fstab conversion uses UUIDs for drives that are formatted on reboot

2006-08-03 Thread hunger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

I got some drives that are encrypted with random keys and thus have to
be reformatted on each reboot.

Using UUIDs for those is not a good idea since formating changes
those:-(

I guess this is a sidecase that is hard/impossible to fix, but a few
words of warning and a copy of the original fstab would be really nice
to have. dpkg usually makes a big fuss about changing config files...
and rightfully so. This conversion is pretty silent and easy to miss.

[Bug 3667] Re: multipage (2 pages to 1) print function not working

2006-08-03 Thread Sebastien CELLES
Hello,

Multipage printing is very usefull I hope you will add it in Dapper
since it has a Long Time Support !!!

I will add that other things that psnup (and other psutils commands lines
http://www.tardis.ed.ac.uk/~ajcd/psutils/) provide should also be add in
gnome-print :
- booklet printing (psbook ...)
- mirror printing (convert -flop input.ps output.ps)
- multipage printing (psnup -n 2 ... or more !)

The user interface should allow to act as a tube (pipe |)... a sort of
filter...

It should be possible to have more than one action
for example
- I should be able to print with a mirror effect with 2 pages to 1
- I should be able to print with a mirror effect a booklet
- I should be able to call my own bash script
tube script like ... | psbook | ...
or script with parameters such as $i for input file and $o for output file
(that's just an example)
...

therefore I think the user interface shouldn't have buttons to tick but should
have 2 parts
on the left part the differents effects (multipage, mirror, ...) are shown
the right part will be the "printing tube" that will show what effects are
chosen and in what order (and whis what parameters)

The user who only want a multipage print will drag and drop multipage from the
right to the left.
On the right part a right click on the multipage will allow him to selct how
many pages he wants (it is a parameter of the multipage effect)

The paramaters of a selected effect on the right part could appear by a
right click or could be on the bottom of the window (maybe it's easier
for users on the bottom...)

I hope you like the idea of this interface...
I really think that it will allow users to do everything they want !!!
I dont't think it 's a geek interface ;-)

Regards

[Bug 55146] button does not become clickable until mouseover

Public bug reported:

if you have the mouse cursor over a button that is currently unclickable
and something in the background happens that should change the state of
the button to clickable, the button will not work properly until you
move the cursor off the button and then back on it.

example:
run synaptic package manager
while the hard drive is grinding away immediately move the mouse cursor over
the "reload" button and keep it there
when the hard drive access stops the "reload" button becomes available but you
cannot click it until you move the mouse cursor off the button and then back

I fixed it (at least for me). I started the notifier under the console

adept_notifier: error checking cache for upgradable packages...
adept_notifier: what: ERROR: The list of sources could not be read.

I went digging, and found that all my *.list files in
/etc/apt/sources.list.d were owned root.root and had 600 permissions.
I'm not sure *why* they were that way, but somehow they had been created
that way. I chmod'ed them 604 and started notifier: nice green circle.

So, it would appear adept_notifier wants to be able to read *all* the
source lists, which only makes sense.

Apparently this is still happening for me even after the gconf edit
suggested above. I'm also not getting any warning messages at all
before the battery dies. I'm running dapper on a Turion 64 (generic
x86_64).

[Bug 55142] ATI Xpress 200 5A61 Chashes

2006-08-03 Thread Sebastian Ortiz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx

Hello,

I got a RADEON XPRESS 200 (RC410 5A61) (or lspci says that).
This is a card with internal memory, and i can manage that with my bios.

I installed the package and, works well, but when i reboot i got working
the GDM, but when i logon on the graphical mode (gnome normal, gnome
failsafe, terminal failsafe), after a few momento working it freeze the
computer, and there no way to go back, nothing works. I tried using
fglrx driver, that suppose it's supported.

When i was tired ... I changed the shared memory (memory to the video)
from bios setting to 128 Mb, it was 32 Mb, and i booted, and... now
there's no problems, i installed xserver-xgl and compiz, and its working
well.

I think is a bug on the package provided by Ati, if need more info, as
logs, and other, please ask me.

[Bug 55132] Wav files won't play out-of-the-box on Dapper PPC

2006-08-03 Thread Tudor Holton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Hello,

On a basic PPC installation of Dapper, we can't seem to play any audio
files at all.

The default application for playing wav files is totem.

If we double click on a wav file, totem says:
"You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to
install the necessary plugins."

The mplayer plugin plays the file perfectly, so the file is ok. AFAIK,
the wav format is not under any particularly licensing restriction so I
fail to see why this won't work out of the box.

Cheers,
Tudor.

or... since /usr/games/armegetron is already a shell script wrapper, you
could possibly attempt to open the device yourself and if unsuccessful
call esddsp within the wrapper.

[Bug 55138] Dell 2950 w/ PERC 5i/Integrated, seeing RAID'd HDD's

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-server

I have a Dell 2950 with a PERC 5i/Integrated RAID controller.

I have created a logical disk a 300Gb comprised of 2 x 300Gb HDD's
attached to the RAID controller.

When I install Ubuntu Server (32-bit) I can only see 1 HDD - /dev/sda

After installation when I upgrade the kernel to the latest version I can
see 3 HDD's! /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, and /dev/sdc. sda and sdb are the
HDD's, and sdc is now the RAID'd logical volume!

Additional info: In order to even see the HDD's after installation I
need to add the "megaraid_sas" driver to /etc/mkinitramfs/modules and
recompile the initrd file.

If /dev/dsp is in use and your sound hardware does not support
multiopen, then there's nothing armagetron can do by default. By default
esound is configured to share the alsa backend nicely.

when selected from the default gnome menu, sound in armegetron does not
work.

without looking too deeply into things, it seems that it's trying to

[Bug 32879] Re: rhythmbox regression: doesn't play next song in list

2006-08-03 Thread Tomasz
I talked to gstreamer developer. After seeing error messages from quod
libet (which i noticed yesterday), he said that it is probably something
related to gstreamer-plugins-base, with resampling audio. He told me
that they fixed many bugs in that module for 0.10.9. Installing 0.10.9
from sources fixed the problem, but now I would like to have clean
solution... now my dpkg database is broken due to that i removed
gstreamer packages without removing packages that depend on it. I'll
probably just backport that package to dapper.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, we are
not able to fix and find the bug because your description of the bug
didn't have enough information in it. You may find it helpful to read
"How to report bugs effectively",

We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description
of the problem.

[Bug 8159] Re: Power button acpi action is bad for gnome (powerbtn.sh)

2006-08-03 Thread Tommy Trussell
Last time I tested it the problem still exists using the 686 kernel on
my machine. Using the 386 kernel, it brings up the dialog and shuts the
system down properly. Using the 686 kernel the powerbutton kills the
power.

My workaround for this is to add acpi=force to the boot parameters when
using the 686 kernel. Which I have to redo in grub's menu.lst after
every kernel update.

I suspect it's a hardware-specific bug, but I have not tried it on other
hardware to narrow it down.
