[Bug 57860] Intel RAID controller doesn't work
Public bug reported: Intel's ICH5R onboard RAID controller doesn't work with Ubuntu 6.06 out of the box. The motherboard is an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe. The onboard promise controller also does not appear to work. This is apparantly due to both controllers being software RAID and requiring software in order to perform the mirroring/stripping. A software package (in the Universe I believe) called DMRaid apparantly supports these software RAID controllers. For instance when I do install DMRaid, while booted on the LiveCD, and I configure it, it can see the stripped array, but Gnome Partition Editor doesn't recognize it other than the size of the drive and the type, therefore I'm unable to resize this partition. I looked at the boot options available and did not see any that were applicable. Basically what I'm trying to do is boot into Ubuntu and use Gnome Partition Editor to resize my NTFS partition in order to dual boot both OS'es off of the mirror. I recommend integrating this into the distribution or find a way to work this into the kernel, many power users are buying these motherboards now-a-days that give them simple RAID capabilities and their support in Linux would be imperitive. I'm willing to help test or work on any of this if necessary as I have a setup that appears to be a problem. Thanks, Scott ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Intel RAID controller doesn't work https://launchpad.net/bugs/57860 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 40601] Re: 1.3.5 out please upgrade
Yeah, there are many new features that won't be available compiling against the headers built into the source package. It's my opinion that the package should be built against current kernel source. In my Old Distro, it was done that way and iptables was a very nice package. You also had to update iptables with each kernel upgrade, though, which isn't really necessary. -- 1.3.5 out please upgrade https://launchpad.net/bugs/40601 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 22336] Re: laptop overheats when performing CPU intensive tasks.
Just as a note to my above comment. I went and nuked the same laptop, and put Gentoo Linux 2006.0 on it. I did an emerge of gnome, which took about 12hrs to compile and it would never overheat. Then, I went and installed S.L.E.D. ( Novell's Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop ), and I was able to play a video for as long as I wanted without any problems. Did anyone find a fix for this yet? Quite right. The entry that it creates during installation for "127.0.1.1 ubuntu" was confusing the issue. Fixing that line to include the FQDN or removing the line entirely resolves the issue. I'll go see if I can figure out why that line is being added during installation...I'm sure there's a good reason for it. Thanks for your comment. [Bug 36596] Re: system freeze after clicking task manager trash icon in "pan" newsreader
I have been running Paul's patch, but eventually the system froze. I'm not sure if this was an update to xorg or not. reneraccel makes no diff here, I still get hard locks if I set the depth above 16bit. This is a real killer of a bug, and given the amount of these ATi chips out there, I was hoping it wouldn't have taken so long to sort out. I here rumours of people managing to get 3D acceleration out of their machines under Linux, but I have never seen it, and cannot replicate their success on my machine. I'm at my wits end with this bug, and it is disappointing that for Ubuntu this is of low priority. Given that the driver worked fine in Breezy (still no 3D), there must be a way to find out what changed? If I can help with testing on my machine, then great, send me the files.
