you didn't mention which application you are using, so I guess it is
opensc. to quote the FAQ from http://www.opensc-project.org/faq.html

--cut--
/var/run/openct/status: No such file or directory
OpenSC has support for three driver types below it: PCSC, OpenCT and
CT-API. If you want to use OpenSC with PC/SC-Lite only, please edit
opensc.conf, look for reader_drivers like and remove the openct driver.

If you get this message, but want to use OpenSC with OpenCT, then you
have not properly installed OpenCT. Please have a look at the QuickStart
docucument in OpenCT, most likely you didn't start the init script or it
was not properly installed or something like that.
--cut--

if you want to use opensc with pcsc only, edit the reader_drivers
setting in opensc.conf. if you want to use opensc with openct, you need
to install the openct package too. so I think the error message you get
is correct, and you need to take either action.

btw: the same is true for opensc and pcsc, you get a similar error
message if you install opensc and libpcsclite only, and then you need to
either remove pcsc from the reader_drivers setting or install pcscd.

Regards, Andreas

That may be true, but the centrino driver does not work on my box -- it
is not centrino, just and old celeron.

None of the speedstep modules could be loaded, with the exception of

[Bug 63694] Upgrading from dapper to edgy fails if KDE 3.5.4 is present

2006-10-02 Thread Mitch Golden
Public bug reported:

I had pretty much a virgin machine that I had built as follows:

*) Build a machine from the Ubuntu Dapper CD (*not* Kubuntu).

*) Log in and install all updates

*) Install easy-ubuntu

*) Install the latest version of KDE as described here:
http://kubuntu.org/announcements/kde-354.php

*) OK, now try to upgrade it using Adept. I edited all the "dapper"s in
the repository list to "edgy"s and did a full upgrade, and Apply.

*) Ran for quite a long time. After about 60% of the way through, it
stopped, claiming that that continuing would break a package or cause
some other problem (I don't remember the precise message,
unfortunately). I see from the dpkg.log file it was finished with the
localization files for openoffice. I don't know if there are any other
log files that could tell me more exactly what the problem was.

*) The machine was fairly fubar. Adept refused to open again, claiming
that there was some configuration problem. It requested using apt-setup
and apt-get --update to see if that fixed things, but the former doesn't
exist and the latter didn't help.

*) The machine refuses to reboot properly. If I don't use safe mode it
just hangs, and if I do use safe mode it refuses to talk to the network.

The machine is an old Sony Vaio PCG-XG19, if that helps.

[Bug 63683] Re: By default, Firefox does not open as a new window.

2006-10-02 Thread Richard Johnson
Yes this can be annoying, I had gotten used to looking at the tray icon,
as it will usually display the page it is currently on.

When I click gmail, it says "Welcome to Gmail" in the tray. I can
confirm that Firefox does not in fact open in a new window, but does
open in a new tab instead, so if Firefox is minimized, and the user does
not look at the tray icon, they may not know they opened a new tab.

blank screen. I can't help it, I love cosmos! i've attached my

With the default settings, Firefox does not open in a new window. This

only cause more Gmail tabs to be opened minimized.

[Bug 63495] Re: Web browsing a lot slower in Edgy (Bug solved)

2006-10-02 Thread irwand
OK, I'm a dumbass..

I debugged this with wireshark, and what messed me up was the /etc/resolv.conf.
Apparently my router assigned me a search domain that caused this bug..
Please close this bug report as not a bug.
I did verify that Dapper Drake installation would behave the same way given the
same search domain string.

Sorry bout that.
Thx guys

[Bug 63680] dapper -> edgy dist-upgrade

2006-10-02 Thread Fabio Massimo Di Nitto
Public bug reported:

Hi Michael,

testing dapper -> edgy dist upgrade from command line (apt-get update &&
apt-get dist-upgrade), apt holds back packages that should be indeed
installed:

The following packages have been kept back:
  hpijs python-adns python-clientcookie python-crypto python-htmlgen
  python-imaging python-imaging-sane python-jabber python-ldap python-mysqldb
  python-pam python-pexpect python-pylibacl python-pyopenssl python-pyxattr
  python-reportlab python-simpletal python-sqlite python-xmpp ubuntu-minimal

ubuntu-minimal seems to be holded due to upstart.

Fabio

[Bug 63225] Re: No support for PCI DVB cards at all

2006-10-02 Thread Zaheer Merali
This is because V4L1 support is unchecked. To compile the ttpci driver
when compiling the kernel, this needs to be checked for some reason. I
have the same issue with my WinTV Nova-T

[Bug 50471] Re: No shutdown option (button) visible

2006-10-02 Thread Andrew Ash
I've noticed what John said too. Whenever I run KDE by using startx,
the only options I get from K Menu->Log Out is End Current Session,
which just takes me back to the command line.

Having shutdown and restart options regardless of how KDE was started
would be beneficial to the power user as well as newer users who don't
know the 'sudo shutdown -h now' command.
