[Bug 63694] Upgrading from dapper to edgy fails if KDE 3.5.4 is present
Public bug reported: I had pretty much a virgin machine that I had built as follows: *) Build a machine from the Ubuntu Dapper CD (*not* Kubuntu). *) Log in and install all updates *) Install easy-ubuntu *) Install the latest version of KDE as described here: http://kubuntu.org/announcements/kde-354.php *) OK, now try to upgrade it using Adept. I edited all the dappers in the repository list to edgys and did a full upgrade, and Apply. *) Ran for quite a long time. After about 60% of the way through, it stopped, claiming that that continuing would break a package or cause some other problem (I don't remember the precise message, unfortunately). I see from the dpkg.log file it was finished with the localization files for openoffice. I don't know if there are any other log files that could tell me more exactly what the problem was. *) The machine was fairly fubar. Adept refused to open again, claiming that there was some configuration problem. It requested using apt-setup and apt-get --update to see if that fixed things, but the former doesn't exist and the latter didn't help. *) The machine refuses to reboot properly. If I don't use safe mode it just hangs, and if I do use safe mode it refuses to talk to the network. The machine is an old Sony Vaio PCG-XG19, if that helps. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Upgrading from dapper to edgy fails if KDE 3.5.4 is present https://launchpad.net/bugs/63694 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 49222] Re: Screensaver password dialog does not indicate keyboard layout
I think my problem is very related: I use a modified dvorak keyboard (as a non-english speaker) to avoid keyboard switching (with xmodmap). I consider this a very serious bug. [Bug 63700] Filenames cannot contain Hindi characters
Public bug reported: I installed Kubuntu using the graphical LiveCD installer. Right at boot time, I pressed F2 to choose the language and chose Hindi (which showed up garbled, but that's another bug for another day). I installed the system and chose Hindi as the default language. However, if I save a file with hindi characters in the filename, the file shows up garbled with a name such as सà¥à¤¨à¥à¤ªà¤¶à¥à¤1.png . I checked if the NLS utf-8 module is loaded and it is: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Desktop$ lsmod | grep utf nls_utf82176 2 I then checked the locale and got the following output: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ locale LANG=hi_IN LANGUAGE=hi_IN:hi:en_IN:en_GB:en LC_CTYPE=hi_IN LC_NUMERIC=hi_IN LC_TIME=hi_IN LC_COLLATE=hi_IN LC_MONETARY=hi_IN LC_MESSAGES=hi_IN LC_PAPER=hi_IN LC_NAME=hi_IN LC_ADDRESS=hi_IN LC_TELEPHONE=hi_IN LC_MEASUREMENT=hi_IN LC_IDENTIFICATION=hi_IN LC_ALL= I then did locale -a to show all installed locales. C en_AU.utf8 en_BW.utf8 en_CA.utf8 en_DK.utf8 en_GB.utf8 en_HK.utf8 en_IE.utf8 en_IN en_IN.utf8 en_NZ.utf8 en_PH.utf8 en_SG.utf8 en_US.utf8 en_ZA.utf8 en_ZW.utf8 hi_IN hi_IN.utf8 POSIX Seeing that the locale did not have support for unicode, I went to /var/lib/locales/supported.d and edited local to include hi_IN.UTF-8 UTF-8 I then regenerated the locales by doing sudo dpkg-reconfigure --force locales Now, locale -a also shows me hi_IN.utf8 However, despite ensuring that Hindi was chosen in the language settings tool, the locale remains hi_IN. I apprehend that this is the root of the problem. When Hindi is chosen at boot or during the ubiquity language choice screen, the default locale should be generated and set to hi_IN.utf8. Further, how does one change the running locale ? ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Filenames cannot contain Hindi characters https://launchpad.net/bugs/63700 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 62685] Re: [Edgy regression] Hostap driver for PRISM2 wifi card not working any more
I dunno if this is the same problem as bug 63508, but maybe. My WIFI was working in Edgy until the upgrade to: [UPGRADE] fglrx-kernel-source 8.28.8+2.6.17.5-5 - 8.28.8+2.6.17.5-6 [UPGRADE] linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic 2.6.17-10.24 - 2.6.17-10.25 [UPGRADE] linux-libc-dev 2.6.17-10.24 - 2.6.17-10.25 [UPGRADE] linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17-10-generic 2.6.17.5-5 - 2.6.17.5-6 [UPGRADE] linux-restricted-modules-common 2.6.17.5-5 - 2.6.17.5-6 (from /var/log/aptitude) The later upgrade to 2.6.17-10.26 haven't changed it. It seems that during boot a ifrename is tried invoked, but it fails. I dunno if this is of relevance, but my WIFI were previously eth0 and now is wlan0 (but recognised as a wired interface). ifrename cannot be installed by itself No candidate version found (aptitude). -- [Edgy regression] Hostap driver for PRISM2 wifi card not working any more https://launchpad.net/bugs/62685 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 63639] Re: Edgy beta 1: scaling_available_frequencies list incomplete
Celerons don't support voltage scaling. p4-clockmod throttles the CPU rather than scaling the frequency, and has sufficient latency that enabling it by default causes serious problems. I'm afraid I'm going to have to reject this. The reason for disabling frequencies below 2GHz is that under certain circumstances failing to do so can cause the machine to crash. It's a bit of a crude choice, but it's what Intel recommend. -- Edgy beta 1: scaling_available_frequencies list incomplete https://launchpad.net/bugs/63639 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
