[Bug 65046] Re: Dash doesn't understand source

2006-10-16 Thread Micah Cowan
The word source is a bash extension: the portable version is the dot
(.) command.

Please test with the minimally failing example. For instance, with an
empty or trivial .bashrc file, does:

if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]
then
. ~/.bashrc
fi

fail? If not, the bug would seem to be other than the one you've
described. If so, please include the exact error message you received.

Also, in what way does dash claim to be /bin/bash? If you're referring
to the contents of the $SHELL environment variable, you can't blame dash
for that: while it's commonly misinterpreted to mean the currently
running shell, it actually is set by login (and some shells) to be the
value of the user's login shell, as specified by /etc/passwd. That is,
if your login shell is /bin/tcsh, and SHELL is currently unset, and you
run bash, bash will set SHELL to /bin/tcsh (and not /bin/bash). Dash may
possibly do the same: or it may be that it was already set by a parent
process.

This bug is a tough one. I haven't been able to reproduce it. Also,
how is a tester going to be ready to capture a backtrace when a rare
bug such as this one appears? There should be a 'hotlist' of
packages for which testers should always have debugging symbols
installed.

I'm the upstream and Debian maintainer of packages lodju and
python-licosmamo. I don't really think lodju is appropriate for general
use: I haven't been able to get the enthusiasm for developing for a
couple ofyears, and don't foresee this to change, so bugs are unlikely
to be fixed. Thus, it would be just as well to remove it from Debian. It

The new 1 button for view modes is totally useless as it needs to be pressed

Removing the timeout would maybe make this usable.

I like the original functionality that allowed quick (one click) change

[Bug 66357] Edgy update-manager always wants to dist-upgrade

2006-10-16 Thread David Fokkema
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

0. make sure your system is up to date. For example:
   1. start update-manager.
   2. check for new updates.
   3. update / dist-upgrade your system.

Now:

4. start update-manager.
5. It says: system up to date, but wants to run dist-upgrade, because 'not all
updates can be installed'. Accept.
6. dist-upgrade tells you that your system is up to date.

Distribution upgrade should only ask to be run when there are indeed
some updates which can't be installed by simply upgrading.

[Bug 66358] after an unsucessfull try to upgrade to edgy I get this error: ata3: translated ATA stat/err 0x51/40

2006-10-16 Thread kmon
Public bug reported:

Hi, yersterday I tried to upgrade my amd64 box from dapper to edgy.

This box is an athlon64 3000+, with a sata HD. When I initially
installed ubuntu (breezy) I set up LVM and eventually upgraded to
dapper. Now the upgrade from dapper to edgy failed.

I left the upgrade process runing, and when I came back the app was not
running (maybe it crashed, I don't really know.) I decided to reboot (my
error) and I saw that my grub menu only listed the 2.6.15 kernel from
dapper. When it started booting this error message showed:

ata3: translated ATA stat/err 0x51/40 to SCSI ...

The system boots, but when finds this errors it stops and mounts
/dev/sda in read only. I tried doing a fsck but it game me many errors
(and it was a bit late...)

I don't know if this is related to the upgrade tool, but I thought
better to report than doing nothing.

On a related note I tried to boot the live cd beta edgy to see what
happened, but I couldn't find the LVM tools vgchange and related. Is
this supposed to be like this or it's just happened in the beta cd?

Is there any way I could try and boot to get the upgrade logs?

Thanks

totem-gstreamer or totem-xine? Does it happen if you play a movie with

[Bug 66355] Re: gpilotd locks up my Palm Z22

2006-10-16 Thread Daniel Holbach
It can be useful to figure out if the problem is with gnome-pilot or the lower,
pilot-link, layer. To isolate (assuming you have pilot-xfer installed) try the
following:
   1. Kill gpilotd (you may need to remove the pilot applet from the panel, and
then do killall gpilotd from a terminal window).
   2. Now try running pilot-xfer: pilot-xfer -p /dev/pilot -l (or '-p
/dev/ttyUSB0', or '-p /dev/ttyUSB1', or '-p net:', etc)
   3. If that doesn't work, then you have most likely got a problem with your
kernel/udev/usb/cables, etc, not gnome-pilot.

It can also be useful to see the output from the gpilotd daemon. To do this:
   1. Kill gpilotd (you may need to remove the pilot applet from the panel, and
then do killall gpilotd from a terminal window).
   2. Restart gpilotd (/usr/bin/gpilotd).

[Bug 66362] Equation Solver not enabled in Kalzium

2006-10-16 Thread carsten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kalzium

The Kalzium shipped with Dapper and Edgy don't have the equationsolver
enabled. You can see the feature in action in this screenshot:

http://edu.kde.org/kalzium/pics/kalzium-eq-solver.png

As stated in several places, the packager just needs OCaml and libfacile
installed on _compiletime_, this is _not_ a runtime dependency. In
Debian, this feature is enabled (I was told), and both compiletime-debs
exist as deb-packages.

You can read more info about his here:

[Bug 66360] x-ttcidfont-conf.defoma fails to create fonts.dir file on Edgy

2006-10-16 Thread James Henstridge
Public bug reported:

The /usr/share/defoma/scripts/x-ttcidfont-conf.defoma script fails to
create a fonts.dir file, which means that applications using the old X
font subsystem (like emacs) don't see the truetype fonts installed on
the system.

The invocation of mkfontdir is:

system('/usr/bin/mkfontdir',
   '-e', '/usr/share/X11/fonts/encodings',
   '-e', '/usr/share/X11/fonts/encodings/large',
   $PkgDir/dirs/$category);

As /usr/share/X11/fonts/encodings does not exist, mkfontdir errors out
without creating the fonts.dir file. The encodings information seems to
be at /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/encodings now.

Updating the paths in the script seems to fix the problem.

[Bug 66365] with dual screen, mouse only on first screen

2006-10-16 Thread oliver
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

On my laptop, I am using two screens. With Dapper, everything worked
fine. On Edgy, I have my two desktops working. I can move the mouse from
one to another. But on the second screen, I have no cursor but a big
coloured square (I can move it and even start applications with it but
it is really annoying...). I am using KDE.

[Bug 66141] Re: moved desktop icons are copied

2006-10-16 Thread Emilio Scalise
It could be that... Desktop in my home is a symlink to a directory on another
ext3 partition. This evening, when I go to home I'll try to create another user
with a local home, and I'll tell you if this happens.
Perhaps, it's a regression on dapper. I have the same configuration with dapper
with no problems.

Bye!

[Bug 66366] no GUI for ethernet configuration

2006-10-16 Thread amichair
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-systemsettings

under System Settings - Network Settings - Network Interfaces there's a list
of network interfaces, however the configuration parameters (speed, duplex,
autonegotiate, etc.) are nowhere to be found - other than restarting
(disabling+enabling) the connection, the GUI is near useless.
I was having problems with the network connecting working in Half Duplex rather
than Full Duplex, and had to spend time searching forums and experimenting
umtill I found ethtool and its command line options, which eventually solved
the problem with the correct settings. Presenting itself as a viable
replacement for Windows, I would expect such settings (basically everything
ethtool does) to be available from the Network Settings GUI, as it is in
Windows (device configuration properties GUI).
BTW when pressing the Configure Interface button (in Administrator Mode),
where I expect these options to appear, there is an Advanced Settings button
which looks like the intuitive place for these settings to be in some secondary
dialog box. However, this button is always disabled (grayed out) no matter what
I do.
