[Bug 68239] Broken link in /usr/lib/libtdsodbc.so
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: freetds-dev Hi, - Ubuntu Dapper Drake LTS - freetds-dev 0.63-2ubuntu1 Problem : the following link is broken : /usr/lib/libtdsodbc.so -> libtdsodbc.so.0.0.0 Reason : libtdsodbc.so.0.0.0 doesn't exist at all ! It seems the 'tdsodbc' package does install such file but in /usr/lib/odbc/libtdsodbc.so. So a possible solution would be to change the link accordingly, but then 'freetds-dev' should be made (somehow) dependant of 'tdsodbc'. And I'm not sure it really makes sense. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pmount Default install of dapper, pmount has permissions of 750 and is owned by root and group plugdev which the desktop user is not a member of. When the key was inserted, pmount failed to automount the key, and if the key was clicked on in the devices list, the error was issued in the gui "could not execute pmount". I changed the execute permissions to 755 on /usr/bin/pmount and once this had been done the key was automatically recognised. I would assume either the user should have been a member of group usbdev, or the permissions on pmount should have been 755. [Bug 47513] Re: After hibernation, powernowd only controls one CPU
If you're using powernowd, you should be using the userspace governor, not the ondemand one. powernowd will automatically set this when starting up, which is why restarting powernowd solves the problems you are all seeing. When the system goes to sleep and comes back, apparently the kernel (or Ubuntu suspend scripts) aren't saving/restoring the right governor settings. This, to me, is a real bug, as suspend/restore is supposed to restore the system exactly how it was. powernowd has no way of knowing when a suspend happened, nor should it. I can try and work around this in powernowd by periodically polling the scaling_governor file and resetting it to userspace if someone changes it out from under us. But I know of use cases where that would break other people (some people like to run powernowd all the time, and just "temporarily disable it" by changing the governor to performance for a while, and then change it back to userspace and powernowd just works again, all without restarting powernowd. ) my guess is, if you run powernowd with the -d -vv options by hand and then suspend/resume, you'll see that it's actually chugging along as normal, trying to control both cpus, but it speed change requests are ignored by the fact the system is using the wrong governor after suspend. john.c (powernowd author, and someone who just noticed this on his company's macbook pro core duo running edgy) -- After hibernation, powernowd only controls one CPU https://launchpad.net/bugs/47513 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 67399] Re: Module ir_common interfeers with lirc
I've made the trick. There's to do this in order to keep lirc users able to user lirc as in dapper: In kernel source tree, edit this file: drivers/media/common/ir-keymaps.c It contains definitions of certain tv card remote controls. To avoid kernel catching remote control signals, there's to delete such definitions. I've attached the file that made the trick with last edgy kernel. When compiling kernel with new ir-keymaps.c, ir_common module is still present, but it wont do any harm to lirc users again. When kernel.org provides a way to change functions to remote control keys (or even deactive it), ubuntu should come back to use their ir-keymaps.c archive. ** Attachment added: "New ir-keymap.c This one works well with edgy. [Bug 68220] Partition editor window in Kubuntu install is too big for the screen
Public bug reported: When using the LiveCD installer, selecting "Manually edit partitions" and continuing to the next step brings up a window that is longer (in horizontal dimension) than the desktop. The window is not resizable. In subsequent steps of the install process, the window associated with the installer remains elongated until it is manually resized. [Bug 68216] Crash on Systems that don't report Screen Brightness
Public bug reported: (From http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364383 ) There is an issue in 91-reset-brightness-state.patch (and maybe some related patches) where even if the hardware doesn't report a valid brightness, it will try to dim the screen. The patch defines LAPTOP_PANEL_CURRENT_BRIGHTNESS = -1, and then later passes it to gpm_brightness_level_save, which compares it to itself, causing the first IF to always be true (bypassing the error checking). I'm not exactly sure how it crashes, as I haven't compiled it, but it needs looking into.
