Please attach the output of sudo lspci -vvv and sudo lspci -vvxxx to
the bug report as plain text attachments, hopefully we can figure out
what needs to change in the r8169 driver.

[Bug 83602] no screen found with fglrx; just dist-upgraded from edgy to feisty

Hello,

I have checked both xorg-driver-fglrx and linux-restricted-modules are

Any ideas?

I have tried the ati open source driver with AIXGL and Beryl, very

[Bug 83604] ntpdate 1:4.2.2.p4+dfsg-1ubuntu2 has a flawed configuration file.

2007-02-06 Thread Pedro Alejandro López-Valencia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ntp

This is in feisty (but it is an explanation for bug #82774 as well, the
basic reason is the same for edgy, different configuration flaws).

I just noticed the problem in a feisty up-to-date system. In ntpdate
(1:4.2.2.p4+dfsg-1ubuntu2) packaging, /etc/default/ntpdate is set up in
such a way that it defaults to the ntp servers defined in /etc/ntp.conf,
an empty file; which makes debconf to *not* create a proper
/etc/ntp.conf if one decided to install ntpd on a whim. And to add
insult to injury, /etc/default/ntpdate does not have the needed config
flag to have ntpdate log its success or failure to the syslog (-s),
thus it defaults to standard output, which upstart diligently makes all
efforts to send to /dev/null.

[Bug 48748] Re: The applications menu has gone

2007-02-06 Thread Greeneemer
Something similar has happened to me too.

Unknowingly, I filled up my Ubuntu partition with a simple cp command on a big
file.
While my hard disc was full, I right clicked on the Application menu and
selected to edit my Applications menu. I got a message that Alacarte was
starting up, but that message disappeared and nothing more happened. I didn't
know then that my hard disc was full, I only thought that it was slow because
of the file operation under way.

Since nothing happened after I got the message that Alacarte was
starting up, I decided to let the copy operation do its things
undisturbed so I waited. Some seconds later, I got a message from Gnome
that my hard disc was full and the cp operation halted. I then removed
some files to make space again.

After that I had made some space I clicked the Applications menu, but by
then it was empty...

I don't know if this is the same issue as the original post, but the
outcome is the same.

I'm using Ubuntu Edgy Eft (upgraded from Dapper) with all packages up to date
as of a week ago. (dual boot with Windows XP Pro)
I'm on a Dell Inspiron 8600c.

[Bug 1] Towson University Linux

2007-02-06 Thread towsonu2003
Hi,

As you might guess, I graduated from Towson University, and I recently
learned that it has started to consider whether and when to switch to
Vista[1].

We all know that Vista requires new hardware and as far as I know, they
just bought new computers from Dell... And I cannot see why an
educational institution would want to switch to Vista so early, which
doesn't bring anything new to the table but eye candy... So I find it a
little foolish what they're doing...

At first, I wanted to contact them and advise them to switch to Linux,
but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't take me seriously.

Towson University is part of the Maryland University system, and if
Ubuntu were to enter Towson, it could function as a nice gate into the
broader system, including schools like College Park and UMBC.

This would also be a perfect implementation for institutional-
linux[2]...

This sounds more like an utopia to me, but what if Canonical and / or
Ubuntu's marketing team contacts them? Would that be possible?

Thanks a lot for considering

2007-02-06 Thread Donald
I am affected by the same bug. I use by no means new or exotic hardware.
It is an ASUS P4P800SE Mainboard with an Intel 865PE Chipset. I have no
problems booting kernel 2.6.19-7 and i never had this kind of problem
with any previous ubuntu release. So i am suspecting a kernel bug
really. Something changed with 2.6.20. I will check out my bios settings
though.

[Bug 83608] Evolution stopped reading IMAP folders

2007-02-06 Thread Francisco Maia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

After a Edgy to Feisty upgrade, my pre-configured Evolution client stopped to
show my messages on all IMAP folders.
The folder tree appears (all folders are shown and I can search, show and/or
hide them using the Folder/Subscriptions menu) but no info on new messages are
available and no folder contents are shown, as if all folders are empty. No
errors are displayed.

Already removed the .evolution/mail/imap folder and the same problem
occurs.

[Bug 80946] Re: desktop-effects human variant would be nice

2007-02-06 Thread Troy James Sobotka
Sorry, yes, I probably should have stated that.

I developed that icon based off of the Canonical SVG monitor icon
present in

/usr/share/icons/Human/Scalable

My contribution to the icon is obviously completely subject to whatever
license is required by Ubuntu / Canonical.

I whipped it up in about 15 minutes, but again, it is better than what
we currently have (being the Fedora knockoff.)

The SVG renders properly on GNOME and under Inkscape. Firefox will
corrupt the SVG render.

If there is a specific size issue, it could probably be modified quite
easily.

Hope this was helpful.

[Bug 66963] Re: pci_set_power_state errors in tty0 console

2007-02-06 Thread Brad
Very nice find.. that has to be our problem!

Quote:
Hmm.. 3c59x.c seems to do pci_set_power_state() without checking if it is
supported; and it seems it can do it when userland asks it to.
You may want to try killing daemons one-by-one to see which one triggers that.
Perhaps pci should not complain when it is asked to do transitions on
non-power-managable hardware?

They have a patch which has been approved for openSUSE.

[Bug 83597] Re: Unknown device: x11alpha

2007-02-06 Thread Till Kamppeter
gs-esp was intendedly changed to have the X support in the extra package
gs-esp-x, so that gs-esp can also be installed on X-less servers. The
packages which need to be modified now are all PostScript/PDF screen
viewers which use GhostScript (gv, kghostview, ...).

[Bug 78098] Re: http_proxy defined incorrectly

2007-02-06 Thread Alex Mauer
Yes, I did. 8080 was the default value; I assumed it would be ignored
if the host was left blank. Further, using gconf-editor's unset key
action on /system/http_proxy/port sets it back to 8080

Through the applet I cannot completely unset the port. It gets set to 0
if I blank it out (and the gconf key /system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy
stays set)

So presumably either this applet should be changed to default to 0; or
other things (gnome-session?) should ignore the [other] settings for
http_proxy if the host is blank; or the the applet should unset the key
/system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy if the host is blank, and whatever
sets the environment variable should read the key
/system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy instead of using
/system/http_proxy/host and /system/http_proxy/port.

[Bug 83609] Re: k3b crashes midway through creating dvd image

ok, found the solution. this isn't really a bug in k3b. i was writing to
a fat32 partition. the image creation didn't complete because of the 4GB
limit on fat32 files.

however, there is a bug in the fact that k3b crashes madly instead of
giving an intelligible report on the problem. compare its behavior with
the seemingly not user friendly dd:

[Bug 78288] Re: kernel 2.6.20-5 doesn't boot with sata-hd

2007-02-06 Thread Donald
BIOS Onboard IDE Operating Mode is set to S-ATA, because i use only
SATA harddrives. With 2.6.20-x i get something like

irq18: nobody cared
disabling irq 18
...
hde: dma_timer_expiry dma status == 0x24
hde: DMA interrupt recovery
hde: lost interrupt
...
hde: dma_timer_expiry dma status == 0x24
hde: DMA interrupt recovery
hde: lost interrupt

in an endless loop during bootup. I attached a screenshot with these log
messages because i cannot find them in /var/log/messages.

If i set BIOS IDE Operate Mode to SATA and PATA i get the same, if i
set it to PATA i get something similar but with hda instead of hde.

Strange thing is, my primary SATA drive has always been /dev/sda. Now it
seems to be recognized as /dev/hde and with ls /dev after booting from a
herd3 cd, i do not see ANY sdx device.

[Bug 70480] Re: Printing doesn't work if abcm2ps binary isn't installed - noteedit should depend or at least recommend on abcm2ps

2007-02-06 Thread jan mugge
I have two computers running Ubuntu, one dapper and one edgy.
On both installed noteedit with synaptic and found they differ by version.
Dapper installed noteedit 2.8.0 and edgy noteedit 2.8.1.
Differences as I found so far are printing behaviour and keyboard action.
For printing with 8.2.1 you can configure noteedit (settings) to use lilypond.
File/Print delivers a good pdf printout wich can be previewed and printed from
kpdf.
2.8.0 however can deliver a pdf with lilypound but via settings/output params.
tab lilypond format and selecting start export button below right in the
window. To my surprice it delivered a pdf- as well as a ps-file, though it only
will inform you about a .li file to be saved! kpdf will print your pdf-file.
This will most probably solve your printing needs, but 2.8.1 is preferable.
2.8.0 on my ubuntu doesn't listen to the keyboard, so for instance I can't
delete anything while editing!! I need 2.8.1 on my dapper but don't know how.
