I agree, automounting partitions is actively dangerous. Besides, this is
a new feature that should be handled as a spec:

[Bug 91564] UVF: glom 1.3.11 -> 1.3.12

2007-03-11 Thread Daniel Holbach
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: glom

Please consider the following update:

glom (1.3.12-0ubuntu1) feisty; urgency=low

  * New upstream release:
- Users and Groups UI works with later versions of Postgres. (at least 8.2,
and maybe >= 8.0 had this problem)
- Disabled experimental Avahi support because it was unstable and not yet
  doing anything useful.
  * debian/control:
- dropped Build-Depends on libavahi-glib-dev.

[Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.

2007-03-11 Thread Martin Pitt
deuce, if 'dbus start' fails that way, then it is already running. The
easiest workaround is to just wait for some seconds at the login screen
before logging in. The correct way is to rename /etc/rc2.d/S20dbus to
/etc/rc2.d/S12dbus (this was recently done in Feisty).

If it does not even log in, please get .xsession-errors from your home
directory and attach it here (you can log in on a text console after
pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1).

[Bug 87459] Re: GL Desktop crashes on enabling

2007-03-11 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
gnome-compiz-manager (the package that provides GL Desktop) isn't an
Ubuntu package.

Secondly, the backtrace suggests that you've got the compiz-extra
plugins installed. If these are built against the wrong version of
compiz, they will crash compiz on startup. With the latest compiz and
compiz-extra packages from Universe (1:0.3.6-1ubuntu7 and 0.3.6.0-1 at
the moment) do you see the same crash?

[Bug 90954] Re: Marking a bug as a duplicate of another causes subscribers to be subscribed to all duplicates

2007-03-11 Thread James Henstridge
For the following description, I'll talk about three bugs A, B and C.
Lets say that you file bug B, which later gets marked as a duplicate of
A. Changes to A will be sent to A's direct subscribers, and subscribers
to A's duplicates (such as B). Lets say that C then gets marked as a
duplicate of A. This will send out a message to C's subscribers and A's
subscribers abouit the fact, which is why B's reporter would hear about
it. Note that after this point, A's direct subscribers shouldn't hear
about changes to bugs B or C.

Now, are the unwanted notifications you're talking about just the
notifications about new duplicates, or are you saying that you are
getting further messages about the dupes? If it is just the former,
then this is a duplicate of bug 91212.

[Bug 64290] Re: Hot keys not detected

2007-03-11 Thread thesoothsayer
I have a similar problem to the original poster on my Asus A8Fm.
In my case, all except 1 of my keys produces ATKD events using acpi_listen and
tail -f /var/log/acpid.

Fn+F6 (open sun/decrease brightness) registers no ATKD event.

Fn+F5 increase brightness produces ATKD events from 0020-002e
but there are no event handlers for those in /etc/acpi/events. Manually
adding an event handler solves the problem for Fn+F5.

My laptop details can be found here:

It depends how you do clone the disks. Note that the initramfs is
updated on each machine for the very good reason that some raid
information are stored there.

If the wrong information are cloned in the initramfs of another machine,
that one will suffer of the problem again and you will need to
regenerate the initramfs manually.

[Bug 91558] network-manager multiple problems

2007-03-11 Thread rsidd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

network-manager seems way more trouble than it's worth. Here are three
issues I have on my feisty install of 4 days ago (the first one has been
reported before by many people, the others seem new):

1. It doesn't work with WEP. Actually, right now it doesn't work even
with an unsecured wireless connection. It hangs for ever in
"configuring interface". Running dhclient by hand configures it
instantly.

Last I tried it (dapper) it worked with unsecured but not WEP
connections. Some time in the early dapper cycle it worked with WEP
too, that was before the upgrade to version 0.6.

2. It fails to configure the DNS for my wired connection, though it
brings up the interface (correctly, as far as I can make out). I don't
see why. Again, running dhclient by hand configured it fine -- but I
got assigned a different IP address, though my lease should certainly
not have expired, it was only a minute or two. So I don't know what
network-manager is doing.

3. If I have knetworkmanager running, and I make a dialup connection by
hand (via my GPRS mobile phone), all KDE applications fail to realise
that the network is up. I can surf the net with firefox but not with
konqueror. If I quit knetworkmanager, konqueror (and akregator and
other KDE apps) work again.

I have now removed networkmanager (and friends) from my system. It
seems a complete mess to me.

[Bug 53543] Re: Konsole on PPC requires a key not on PPC keyboards

2007-03-11 Thread baryon351
Terminal in OS X uses command-V to paste. Almost all OSX apps use the
same key combos to copy/paste/cut, being Command with C, V and X.

Command is the cloverleaf-looking key, and also the Apple key on Apple
keyboards. As far as I know, it acts the same as the Windows key when
used on a Win PC or most Linux desktops. I understand it might not make
sense from within an Ubuntu desktop to nab that key for the same key
options as in OS X.

I don't have an Ubuntu machine running KDE handy at the moment, but last
I looked at it I think shift-F13, F14 or F15 worked in place of shift-
insert in Konsole - just the naming of the shortcut with a nonexistent
key was the minor issue.

[Bug 86504] Re: Shutdown, Hibernate, and Suspend Not Working

2007-03-11 Thread Morgan Collett
I have the same issue, I think. Shutdown is similar to a reboot - the
computer appears to power off completely, but a second later it boots up
again. Hibernate does the same.

This is on a platform we hope to hardware certify for Feisty - if we can
solve this problem.

There is no page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelSuspendDebugging ?

I will attach the data requested in a separate comment.

[Bug 84591] Re: feisty 20070210 persistent doesn't

2007-03-11 Thread Mike
When shutting down Herd's 4 and 5, the following error message shows up:

* Unmounting temporary file systems. . .
umount: /cow not mounted

[fail]

I am new to Linux, so don't know if this is relevant, but I didn't see
this error message with Herd 3 in which persistence seems to work and it
looked like /cow may be used by casper.

[Bug 78555] Re: Broken mixer behaviour on Intel HDA on Dell DXP051 machine

2007-03-11 Thread Philip Kovac
I have a problem that might possibly be related. My HDA family device (I
presume it is so, as it uses the snd_hda_codec and snd_hda_intel
modules,) does not display a "master" mixer either. In my case, it makes
the internal speakers borderline unusable, as the default volume for
them is far too low to be useful, and additionally, it forces me to max
out the PCM volume to get anything at all, which seems to impact audio
quality. If you could guide me in the direction of any more useful
information I could provide, I would gladly do so.
