deuce, if 'dbus start' fails that way, then it is already running. The easiest workaround is to just wait for some seconds at the login screen before logging in. [Bug 90954] Re: Marking a bug as a duplicate of another causes subscribers to be subscribed to all duplicates
For the following description, I'll talk about three bugs A, B and C. Lets say that you file bug B, which later gets marked as a duplicate of A. Changes to A will be sent to A's direct subscribers, and subscribers to A's duplicates (such as B). Lets say that C then gets marked as a duplicate of A. This will send out a message to C's subscribers and A's subscribers abouit the fact, which is why B's reporter would hear about it. Note that after this point, A's direct subscribers shouldn't hear about changes to bugs B or C. Now, are the unwanted notifications you're talking about just the notifications about new duplicates, or are you saying that you are getting further messages about the dupes? If it is just the former, then this is a duplicate of bug 91212. -- Marking a bug as a duplicate of another causes subscribers to be subscribed to all duplicates https://launchpad.net/bugs/90954 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have a similar problem to the original poster on my Asus A8Fm. In my case, all except 1 of my keys produces ATKD events using acpi_listen and tail -f /var/log/acpid. [Bug 91558] network-manager multiple problems
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager network-manager seems way more trouble than it's worth. Here are three issues I have on my feisty install of 4 days ago (the first one has been reported before by many people, the others seem new): 1. It doesn't work with WEP. Actually, right now it doesn't work even with an unsecured wireless connection. It hangs for ever in "configuring interface". Running dhclient by hand configures it instantly. Last I tried it (dapper) it worked with unsecured but not WEP connections. Some time in the early dapper cycle it worked with WEP too, that was before the upgrade to version 0.6. 2. It fails to configure the DNS for my wired connection, though it brings up the interface (correctly, as far as I can make out). I don't see why. Again, running dhclient by hand configured it fine -- but I got assigned a different IP address, though my lease should certainly not have expired, it was only a minute or two. So I don't know what network-manager is doing. 3. If I have knetworkmanager running, and I make a dialup connection by hand (via my GPRS mobile phone), all KDE applications fail to realise that the network is up. I can surf the net with firefox but not with konqueror. If I quit knetworkmanager, konqueror (and akregator and other KDE apps) work again. I have now removed networkmanager (and friends) from my system. It seems a complete mess to me. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- network-manager multiple problems https://launchpad.net/bugs/91558 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 53543] Re: Konsole on PPC requires a key not on PPC keyboards
Terminal in OS X uses command-V to paste. Almost all OSX apps use the same key combos to copy/paste/cut, being Command with C, V and X. Command is the cloverleaf-looking key, and also the Apple key on Apple keyboards. As far as I know, it acts the same as the Windows key when used on a Win PC or most Linux desktops. I understand it might not make sense from within an Ubuntu desktop to nab that key for the same key options as in OS X. I don't have an Ubuntu machine running KDE handy at the moment, but last I looked at it I think shift-F13, F14 or F15 worked in place of shift- insert in Konsole - just the naming of the shortcut with a nonexistent key was the minor issue. -- Konsole on PPC requires a key not on PPC keyboards https://launchpad.net/bugs/53543 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 78555] Re: Broken mixer behaviour on Intel HDA on Dell DXP051 machine
I have a problem that might possibly be related. My HDA family device (I presume it is so, as it uses the snd_hda_codec and snd_hda_intel modules,) does not display a "master" mixer either. In my case, it makes the internal speakers borderline unusable, as the default volume for them is far too low to be useful, and additionally, it forces me to max out the PCM volume to get anything at all, which seems to impact audio quality. If you could guide me in the direction of any more useful information I could provide, I would gladly do so. 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Aud io Controller (rev 02) -- Broken mixer behaviour on Intel HDA on Dell DXP051 machine https://launchpad.net/bugs/78555 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
