[Bug 12389] Re: Logging out on a LCD produces a fade effect that is not pleasant

2007-03-15 Thread Christof Krüger
What is the output of the following command?
 apt-cache show gnome-session|grep Version

Could you please make a screenshot? You won't be able to make a screenshot
directly when the logout screen is active. But you can do it by using Xnest:

1. sudo apt-get install xnest
2. gdmflexiserver --xnest

This will start a new gdm screen inside a window. You might need to add
a new test user first, because gdm usually won't allow you to login
twice.

[Bug 92746] wireless driver ipw3945 stopped working from 2.6.20-9 up

2007-03-15 Thread giacomoi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

WiFI was working fine with kernel 2.6.20-9 but stopped working with
versions 2.6.20-10 and 2.6.20-11.

A suspicious behavior is that at boot there are no apparent problems in
loading the driver. But if I type:

$ sudo modprobe -r ipw3945
I get:
$ sh: /sbin/ipw3945d-2.6.20-11-generic: not found

and if I type again
$ sudo modprobe ipw3945
I get:
$ sh: /sbin/ipw3945d-2.6.20-11-generic: not found
$ FATAL: Error running install command for ipw3945

However, the dmesg command gives:

[ 1476.288000] ipw3945: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network

[Bug 91582] Re: Firefox 2.0.0.2 spontaneous crash while filling form, Beryl

2007-03-15 Thread Elias Aarnio
Hello,

I have tried to reproduce the crash but I have not been able to
reproduce it. Not when using Metacity nor Beryl.

I was typing text into a text box like this at http://forum.ubuntu-
fi.org/. The browser had been open for hours and at least 5 minutes with
the other open tabs untouched. I do not know what kind of refresh
intervals these open pages in tabs have. The crash could be caused by
some of these pages as well.

I have MediaPlayerConnectivity 0.8.3 and Wizz RSS Reader 2.1.7
installed. I have no themes installed.

About plugins (Finnish localization but I think it is understandable as
it is standard output):

Please ask for more if there's some information I can give.

[Bug 6366] Re: Multiverse Ffmpeg Request

It's not a simple matter of saying "fix ffmpeg". It is very inconvenient
to maintain two instances of a package. As Reinhard said 6 months ago,
we can't just move it to multiverse either. The obvious solution is to,
you know not use stupid proprietary codecs?

Do not hesitate to file a wishlist bug against the Debian package,

I'd do it for Feisty+1, certainly. We do our best to ensure we have the
latest versions.

Debian currently only has 5.10, but they'll hopefully have 5.11 in the
near future. As we sync most packages from Debian, we'll have 5.11
within a couple of days of Feisty+1 opening for uploads or the Debian

[Bug 92441] Re: update shows 73 available updates but fails to update

2007-03-15 Thread vamsee
The problem resolved itself after I removed the following line from
/etc/apt/source.list.

deb http://ubuntu.beryl-project.org feisty main

After removing it I restarted the PC and asked update manager to check
for updates. Then it said there are only 69 updates vs. orignal 73. All
of them looked like language packs. I asked it to install it and it did
it successfully.

So your analysis is right that other repositories are messing up the
normal update. Thanks for your suggestion. You can close this bug if you
wish.

[Bug 92742] RT2500-based wireless G network card cannot be set or reset on 2.6.20-11

2007-03-15 Thread Ryan Stonecipher-Fisher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

Steps to reproduce:

1) Have an RT2500-based pci wireless card
2) Boot the 2.6.20-11 kernel
3) Observe that a /etc/network/interfaces file that properly sets wireless

4) Note that "sudo invoke-rc.d networking restart" cannot reset the card
parameters because the card is in some kind of limbo

[Bug 92740] ffmpeg is not built with AAC

2007-03-15 Thread Eugenia Loli-Queru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ffmpeg

I am trying to encode an mp4 video for my cellphone, but ffmpeg does NOT work:
ffmpeg -f mp4 -vcodec mpeg4 -b 700 -qmin 3 -qmax 5 -g 300 -acodec aac -ab 192
-r 15 -s 176x144 -i 300.mp4 300-320.mp4
It says:
Unknown codec 'aac'

Apparently, ffmpeg was NOT built correctly to offer AAC support:
--enable-faad --enable-faac

ffmpeg -formats | grep aac says that:
 D aac ADTS AAC
but unfortunately, encoding with AAC just doesn't work!

Please fix this as soon as it is possible, because otherwise there is no
way to encode video for our cellphones! Thx!

I am not the only one with the problem btw, others on the forums too.

[Bug 92738] major DVD playback bug with Totem

2007-03-15 Thread Eugenia Loli-Queru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I have major problems making Totem working with an encrypted DVD.
Libdvdcss is installed, and when I pop up the DVD disk in the drive HAL
loads Totem and Totem *plays* perfectly the video. However, none of the
DVD options/buttons work (chapters, forward/previous, skip etc etc). If
I stop that video and I try to reload the DVD video again from the menu
this time, I get an error saying that I don't have the necessary plugins
to view encrypted DVD video!!

It seems that your new code that loads the special restricted plugin
application when Totem detects a non-suppored codec is buggy. It seems
that Totem is now conditioned to ONLY work with YOUR libraries and not
with the same libraries that were packaged by other people! I believe
that this is why Totem completely ignores the fact that libdvdcss is
installed correctly and doesn't let me play a DVD. Please fix this,
because as it stands now, there is no way to play a DVD video on Ubuntu
when libdvdcss is installed.

Please try it yourself. Install a libdvdcss, pop a DVD and stop Totem or
try to skip a chapter and then retry to replay the video, it won't work!
If you are not going to fix this then at least you _must_ provide your
version of libdvdcss automatically when an encrypted DVD is detected as
unsupported. But I understand that this is shady depending on which
country you are in, so you must test Totem to make sure it works with
any libdvdcss package that a random user will install.
