[Bug 94995] opening a program does not immediately show a reaction
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome a principle of user interface design is to provide feedback to the user. gnome does not always respect this. a particularly annoying behaviour is: when opening a program (double click) nothing happens for a while till the program opens. when the open procedure is started, the first (very first) thing is to give the user feedback that the command is received. to this end one must change the cursor to the 'wait cursor (rotating symbol)'. the current behaviour of 'silently working' causes the user to doubt that anything has happend and click another time (a third, forth...) to find after a while that many copies have opened. this happens often to me when starting ubuntu and the system is not yet fully responsive (another problem - how to inform the user that the startup is not completely completed, and system responsiveness will improve when this is done). i hope this is only a minor change ... thank you for a nice system! andrew (i run feisty 7.04 - software is updated) ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- opening a program does not immediately show a reaction https://launchpad.net/bugs/94995 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 94982] ubuntu cd-rom installation crashed
Public bug reported: hello, i am a newbie to this, maybe that is why i got this problem... i tried to install ubuntu 6.0.6 from a cd-rom. everything seemed to be swell in the installation process except in the end when the installer crashed with the following error message: unable to install GRUB in /dev/boot Executing 'grub-install /dev/boot' failed. This is a fatal error. --- i am dual-booting having windows on my first hard drive, and ubuntu for the second one. though, i read on this page: http://www.geocities.com/epark/linux/grub-w2k-HOWTO.html that it would be wise to have the boot partition on the hd that contained windows, which in my case (also) is the first one. so i created a 50 MB /boot at the beginning of the hd. the site grub-w2k-HOWTO.html also states that i should NOT install grub in MBR, so when the ubuntu-installer wanted me to install to (hd0), i changed this to /dev/boot. well, in fact i wrote /boot, and then the installer changed this to /dev//boot, so i just wrote boot and the installer translated this to /dev/boot. i must say that i was a bit uncertain if this was correct, but thought to myself "what the heck, let's get it on!" well, maybe i shouldn't have?! ;-) ok, here is a long bug report from the installer: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 166, in ? main() File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 161, in main install/(sys.argv[1]) File "/usr/bin"ubiquity", line 57, in install ret=wizard.run() File "/usr"lib/ubiquity/ubiquityfrontend/gtkui.py", line 305, in run self.process_step() File "/usr"lib/ubiquity/ubiquityfrontend/gtkui.py", line 856, in process_step self.progress_loop() File "/usr"lib/ubiquity/ubiquityfrontend/gtkui.py", line 628, in progress_loop raise RuntimeError, ("Install failed with exit code %s\n%s"% RuntimeError: Install failed with exit code 1 Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/ubiquity/install.py", line 1163, in configure_bootloader raise InstsallStepError( InstallStepError: GrubInstaller failed with code 1 -- the "installer crashed" window also wanted me to attach the files /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman, so i copied those onto a memory card, but on this page i have no alternative for attachment of files... maybe next page?! ok, please tell me how to install grub to /boot with ubuntu installer, thank you! ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- ubuntu cd-rom installation crashed https://launchpad.net/bugs/94982 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 66055] Re: [Edgy] TB crash on closing
I seem to be having the same crash-on-close. It's happened every time for a few days now. Attaching info. I'll assume there's something here that relates these. I have 1.5.0.10. ARGH: update: I can't believe my poor 128K(BIT) upload of a 15 MB file had to FINISH before I got an error that I didn't put a *cute description* for my crash file! You know, the one that is *automatically generated* by Ubuntu? This from a 20-year UNIX guy. It's late, and I'm going to bed. I'll push the button again, but someone should fix this. That's just so unacceptable :-( If it was the middle of the day I'd be gone forever. ** Attachment added: "This Is My File, and This Is My Gun, This is for fighting (with).." http://librarian.launchpad.net/6900756/_usr_lib_mozilla-thunderbird_mozilla-thunderbird-bin.1000.crash -- [Edgy] TB crash on closing https://launchpad.net/bugs/66055 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 93925] Re: xserver bug: random lockups, blank/garbled screen, resolution changes
Ok, I removed all the other modes. I thought it was working until the screen went out of sync, and because I removed all the modes I wasn't able to change modes, although after a few minuets it went back to normal. Also, a little while latter it did black out on me, and I couldn't use the keyboard. I was looking through the different xorg.conf files. The one that doesn't crash, but doesn't have glx has: BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Although, that was from the SystemRescue LiveCD. I had to uncomment it because it didn't work on Ubuntu. On Ubuntu I had to change it to: BusID "PCI:0:10:0" The graphic card did work on Windows, so I don't know what's wrong. Maybe there's a hardware problem, or maybe the driver has a problem. -- xserver bug: random lockups, blank/garbled screen, resolution changes https://launchpad.net/bugs/93925 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
