[Bug 94997] cannot install adobe acrobat (.rpm)

2007-03-22 Thread Andrew Frank
Public bug reported:

if i try to install the adobe acrobat package from the adobe web page
using thunderbird and i get

Could not open "AdobeReader_enu-7.0.9-1.i386.rpm"

Archive type not supported.

given that adobe is important (and better quality still) than the "free"
reader, i assume many are using it (i would recommend to include it in
the multiverse!), this is likely to a major annoyance/show stopper for
many who move from 6.10 to 7.04

do you need more info?

I have attached my Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf

[Bug 94995] opening a program does not immediately show a reaction

2007-03-22 Thread Andrew Frank
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

a principle of user interface design is to provide feedback to the user.
gnome does not always respect this. a particularly annoying behaviour
is:

when opening a program (double click) nothing happens for a while till
the program opens. when the open procedure is started, the first (very
first) thing is to give the user feedback that the command is received.
to this end one must change the cursor to the 'wait cursor (rotating
symbol)'.

the current behaviour of 'silently working' causes the user to doubt
that anything has happend and click another time (a third, forth...) to
find after a while that many copies have opened. this happens often to
me when starting ubuntu and the system is not yet fully responsive
(another problem - how to inform the user that the startup is not
completely completed, and system responsiveness will improve when this
is done).

i hope this is only a minor change ...

thank you for a nice system!

[Bug 89963] Re: clvm does not install automatically like most stuff

2007-03-22 Thread miked
O.k. that's great, so how does one configure this to work?
They all act like they depend on the other things being configured first.
clvm
redhat-cluster-suite
system-config-cluster

I think this might have configured itself somehow over time, but I am still
interested to know how to configure it.
So maybe it's not a bug, that's probably good.

[Bug 94991] network - static configuration

2007-03-22 Thread Andrew Frank
Public bug reported:

i installed 7.04 and allowed a key-ring using connection to the network.
then i realized that this makes me type in my password twice for each
login (login and keyring) and - my security requirements here are low -
i wanted to switch to a static configuration for my (wireless) network.
i cannot do it. the static network configuration (using the GUI) is
correct (done multiple times, the same as in the keyring based one), but
it is not used.

what information do you need to identify the problem?
(this may be a duplicate of 87941 or 90075)

[Bug 67534] Re: Thinkpad T60 doesn't suspend after upgrade to edgy

2007-03-22 Thread Benjamin Wohlwend
Albert,

I upgraded to feisty a few weeks ago, so I can't confirm edgy still
suspends with my setup. However, I learned that 'fglrx' is the culprit
in most cases. Since about four months, all new fglrx versions break
suspend-to-ram and there is no workaround as far as I know.

[Bug 94989] Herd 5 Hangs immediatly on boot but not in recovery mode

2007-03-22 Thread Landyman
Public bug reported:

Please forgive if this is a duplicate report however I didnt see anything
that's very close to my specific issue.
I just downloaded Herd 5 and formatted/reinstalled over Herd 4 which worked
good on my system.
AMD 64 3200 on MSI K8N Diamond mobo with 2GB DDR400
Radeon X800XL pci-x video
IDE 200GB drive (100GB Vista x64, 100GB Ubuntu)
External firewire 300 drive

Right after GRUB the screen goes blank like usplash is going to come up
and then poof.. monitor(Gateway 2485W over DVI) looses signal and goes
to powersave. No HD activity and unresponsive. Have to press reset, but
Recovery Mode works fine... in X using 'radeon' driver at 1920x1200
without issue.

What else can I provide to be of assistance?

report adn attach your file to it and give some info what how to reproduce it.

At this point we have enough crashes on this report, Please open a new

I use for sales I have imported into the program.

Gr... I am very frusrated.

[Bug 25093] Applying fix to Dapper?

2007-03-22 Thread A. Karl Kornel
It appears, from bug 57972, that this bug also affects Dapper. I was
preparing to set up a server where several 500GB disks are made into a
2TB RAID array, so I'm guessing that this is going to affect me. I'm
using Dapper for the longer-term support. Is it possible to get this
fix applied to Dapper?

[Bug 94985] magicolor 2530DL will not network install

2007-03-22 Thread Dale Allen
Public bug reported:

When I install the printer as a network printer with the proper IP address, it
does create an icon for the printer and displays ready. I am using the current
driver for this printer. In attempting to print a test page, the printer never
prints. It is working fine in Windows XP when I install it. I tried the
installation In Ubuntu 6.10 and in Feisty Fawn Herd 5.
I would also like to say how much I love Ubuntu. Thank you very much for
making this free. It is indeed humanity to man.
I placed the Christian Ubuntu on my sister's children's computer. She is so
impressed that is a free operating system; and this version has such wonderful
parental controls.
thanks again,

[Bug 94982] ubuntu cd-rom installation crashed

2007-03-22 Thread torsteinw
Public bug reported:

hello, i am a newbie to this, maybe that is why i got this problem...
i tried to install ubuntu 6.0.6 from a cd-rom. everything seemed to be swell in
the installation process except in the end when the installer crashed with the
following error message:
unable to install GRUB in /dev/boot
Executing 'grub-install /dev/boot' failed.
This is a fatal error.
---
i am dual-booting having windows on my first hard drive, and ubuntu for the
second one. though, i read on this page:
http://www.geocities.com/epark/linux/grub-w2k-HOWTO.html
that it would be wise to have the boot partition on the hd that contained
windows, which in my case (also) is the first one. so i created a 50 MB /boot
at the beginning of the hd. the site grub-w2k-HOWTO.html also states that i
should NOT install grub in MBR, so when the ubuntu-installer wanted me to
install to (hd0), i changed this to /dev/boot. well, in fact i wrote /boot, and
then the installer changed this to /dev//boot, so i just wrote boot and the
installer translated this to /dev/boot. i must say that i was a bit uncertain
if this was correct, but thought to myself "what the heck, let's get it on!"
well, maybe i shouldn't have?! ;-)

ok, here is a long bug report from the installer:
Traceback (most recent call last):

the "installer crashed" window also wanted me to attach the files
/var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman, so i copied those onto a memory
card, but on this page i have no alternative for attachment of files...
maybe next page?!

ok, please tell me how to install grub to /boot with ubuntu installer,
thank you!

[Bug 66055] Re: [Edgy] TB crash on closing

2007-03-22 Thread Bill
I seem to be having the same crash-on-close. It's happened every time
for a few days now.

Attaching info. I'll assume there's something here that relates these.
I have 1.5.0.10.

ARGH: update: I can't believe my poor 128K(BIT) upload of a 15 MB file
had to FINISH before I got an error that I didn't put a *cute
description* for my crash file! You know, the one that is *automatically
generated* by Ubuntu?

This from a 20-year UNIX guy. It's late, and I'm going to bed. I'll
push the button again, but someone should fix this. That's just so
unacceptable :-( If it was the middle of the day I'd be gone forever.

I'll try again latter but I need to reboot and check to see if the MBR

with much more importance and much easier to position on any (/boot)

[Bug 94637] Re: [vmware] ata1: reset failed, giving up

2007-03-22 Thread Ben Collins
Was able to reproduce this on my ws6 install. I also get a lot of
Exception Emask messages. The piix (ide) module seems to work better for
this device, so switching back to it.

** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 93925] Re: xserver bug: random lockups, blank/garbled screen, resolution changes

2007-03-22 Thread jdm64
Ok, I removed all the other modes. I thought it was working until the
screen went out of sync, and because I removed all the modes I wasn't
able to change modes, although after a few minuets it went back to
normal. Also, a little while latter it did black out on me, and I
couldn't use the keyboard.

I was looking through the different xorg.conf files. The one that doesn't
crash, but doesn't have glx has:
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Although, that was from the SystemRescue LiveCD. I had to uncomment it because
it didn't work on Ubuntu. On Ubuntu I had to change it to:
BusID "PCI:0:10:0"

The graphic card did work on Windows, so I don't know what's wrong.
Maybe there's a hardware problem, or maybe the driver has a problem.

[Bug 89712] Re: Invisible windows when desktop effects is enabled

2007-03-22 Thread b sanders
Have also experienced this behavior in gqview. It is not consistent and
I have not been able to reliably produce the effect, but I have seen it
happen. I am using an intel 945 system with onboard intel graphics
adapter.

[Bug 94969] Re: [feisty] daap shares list playlists in reverse order.

I can confirm this. Also of note is pretty much everything from the
remote computer is reversed including playlists, etc.

[Bug 94976] pam_tally.so segfaults on edgy

2007-03-22 Thread James Cole
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpam-modules

The version of libpam-modules on Edgy is 0.79-3 which contains a broken
pam_tally.so module (it segfaults on successful password).
0.79-4 (which is in Feisty) fixes the issue.
You can find a reference to the bug here, as well as a fix:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=347338

Can we get Edgy's (and Dapper's?) libpam-modules updated to fix this?
