Public bug reported: Network Manager (Gnome) works perfectly at first after booting the system, but then it will apparently shut down after random intervals (anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour of use). The icon in my Notification Area disappears and my network ceases to be connected. I am using it on a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop with an Intel wireless card (internal wired ethernet device is physically broken). The wireless connection is WPA1 encrypted if that matters somehow. I'm currently using Network-Manager 0.6.4-6ubuntu7 with Ubuntu 7.04 (feisty). I'm putting my lspci and dmesg below, if there are any logs or something from this machine that would help you guys out, please let me know. [Bug 90267] Re: network-manager stops and restarts already ifup'ed interfaces
The ntp devs refuse to do a normal wild card bind and stick with what they have done. This has come up in comp.protocols.time.ntp quite a few times. Which I think led to the new interface scanning code in ntp 4.2.4 which has it's own problems when ntp is started before the network is up. I mentioned this in my 2007-03-10 post. Starting ntp before the network is up also breaks name resolution for any servers that are specified by name. How can a server name be resolved to ip if the network is not up yet? The following is valid server ntp.ubuntu.com server 0.au.pool.ntp.org server 1.au.pool.ntp.org server 2.au.pool.ntp.org but wil fail because the dns can not be reached because the network is not up. [Bug 104903] Re: metacity fails to show any window decorations after dist-upgrade from edgy to feisty
Yes: in the past I installed, used for a week or so, and then uninstalled with --purge) beryl and Xgl. I have tried to move .dmrc elsewhere to no avail. On relogin to a gnome session, a new .dmrc gets created with a 'default' instead of 'gnome' session. After the last dist-upgrade yesterday, gnome does not even boot fully: the screen remains orange for at least 2 minutes, with the gnome splash showing two icons and "Metacity window manager" as text, which disappears on click. I've noticed the "Synaptics Touchpad no synaptics event device found" in /var/log/Xorg.0.log as well while I was trying to get the Synaptics mouse pad on my Toshiba Satellite 5200 to work properly (it seems that after having upgraded to Feisty - in beta as of today - the mouse pointer on my machine likes to jump nine times out of ten like it used to in earlier Edgy versions whenever my finger touches the pad too far off center - the direction it jumps on the screen corresponds with the offset of my finger from the pad center which can drive you crazy). [Bug 106367] input in terminal widget doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager I used the KDE frontend to dist-upgrade.py to update to Feisty. After the packages are downloaded, the progress kind of halt. I clicked on the 'Show Terminal' button and saw that a pager invoked by apt- listchanges was displayed. What I typed appear in the terminal window, but didn't seem to be sent to the pager. To my surprise, I discovered that the pager input was still attached to the terminal I used to start the command. I hit q in konsole and was thus able to continue. I then got a debconf prompt, same thing, it accepted input only from the shell terminal used to start dist-upgrade.py. Later on, though a new debconf prompt appear and this time, it didn't accept input from anywhere. I kill the upgrade and restarted using the text frontend (because the kde frontend was now busted because of packages that were upgraded.) ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- [kde] input in terminal widget doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106367 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 103119] Re: Screen blank after hibernate
I think I have nailed down some important information about the bug. In order to reproduce, you need to hibernate, then close the lid of your laptop right away. (You don't have to slam it, but close it prior to x windows unloading.) I assume the problem occurs because the screen is normally turned off whenever I close my laptop. When I return from hibernation, I've already opened the lid because I needed to turn on the computer. X never receives the "I opened the lid" event though. This means nothing has told my computer to turn the screen back on. My guess is that this isn't specific to my Tecra. It would probably occur on any model. -- Screen blank after hibernate https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 103184] Re: "Normal Size" command unavailable when font is normal size
I'm not saying the it's a bad thing to communicate the fact that the operation won't have any noticeable effect. I AM saying that I don't like the interface remove options just because. So some other way of communicating the same information would be good. I can understand that the "forward" command is disabled if there is no forward page. But in this case it is impossible to perform the command. But the "reset zoom level to normal" is always possible to perform, even if it's already at "normal". A carpenter doesn't know that the nail is all the way down by the hammer going away, he can still hit the nail, it just won't do any good.. I as a user want the comfort of knowing that the commands I use is available to me, even if others think of me as stupid for using them. It's the same thing with the "save" command in some programs. I want to be able to tell the program "I don't care that I haven't changed anything since last save, just do whatever you do with whats there now and write it to disk." It's somewhat similar to the thing MS does where they collapse menus so only used commands is shown. I read some paper where they found that most user had a bad experience from that.
