Re: [Bug 106308] Re: All 'windows' are missing their 'frames and the panel in general is not working correctly
OK... It looks like it all comes down to Nautilus crashing and it seems like it has to do with moving files around in the 'File Browser' on the 'right of' screen. All desktop icons disappear and once I click 'ok' in the below fault window, Nautilus starts back up and one File Browser window, no matter how many I had open, comes back up, but on the main screen. Also part of this, is that right clicking on any 'window frame' such as to 'move to a different desktop' causes both screens to cycle through each open window on each desktop; I have four desktops for each of the two screens. The other thing is that when it does all this, including crashing, it isn't generating a crash report anymore and I know I didn't tell it not to; I believe that is a selection when the bug report thingy comes up. I'm not sure how to check that, though, or where I can reset it. Anyway... below is the fault window that comes up: "Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error." is the 'window' heading and the 'details' are: Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when attempting to locate the factory.Killing bonobo-activation-server and restarting Nautilus may help fix the problem. and as I said, when I click on the ok, Nautilus comes back up. Maurizio: This is down to monitor probing techniques. The windows drivers (and in fact the linux nvidia binary drivers) probes for resolutions differently to the nv driver. [Bug 83079] Re: Laptop doesn't go sleep *always*
Hello again, now I'm from a fresh installed Kubuntu Feisty Fawn. The suspend-to-ram thing don't works at all, but I can give some new infos. 1. There is an other Computer, it's a Clevo M540N StyleNote, with the same Intel (ICH7, 945GM, whatever, give a look at formerly posted lspci), but it has a newer BIOS, dated to November (as I remember). Neither works the suspend on that machine, the problem is the same. 2.a I make some investigations with the uswsusp package. s2ram -f -a 3 or s2ram -f -p -m works with this model and motherboard "properly", and more reliably than Ubuntu's default, but the failure didn't go away, after a long suspend-to-ram when I try to put again it to sleep, it hangs. 2.b I wanted to try out the latest uswsusp-0.5 package from http://suspend.sourceforge.net/, but when trying to compile it, it throws errors about undefined references to libpci.a's undefined gz/open/close/error/etc. 3. There is a post at the lkml saying: "ata_piix survives exactly one suspend resume cylce. " - http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/1/27/151 My problem is not exactly the same, but I think it is a good point to start from. Oh no... NVRM: Xids... Lucian: Xid's are basically error messages produced by the nvidia binary driver to indicate something unexpected happened. [Bug 16414] Re: All themes fail to indicate mousedown on scrollbar thumbs and sliders
** Description changed: - Steps to reproduce: - 1. Choose any of the themes shipped with Ubuntu, including the default. - 2. Mouse down on a slider or a scrollbar thumb. + 1. Switch to the Human theme if not already using it. (The problem also occurs with other themes, but I'm most concerned about the default theme.) + 2. Mouse down on a checkbox (e.g. "Use sound to notify" in Power Management Preferences). +- Observe that it goes darker to show that you're clicking it. + 4. Mouse down on a slider (e.g. "Set display brightness to:" in Power Management Preferences), or on a scrollbar thumb. +- Observe that ... nothing happens. - What should happen: - * The control changes color to confirm that you're dragging it (as opposed to, - say, having clicked on the pixel immediately above it by mistake). + There is no apparent reason for this inconsistency. I'm aware that other + OSes also make this mistake (for example Windows 95/98/2000 got it wrong + but Windows XP got it right, and Mac OS 8/9 got it right but Mac OS X + gets it wrong). But it's more important to be internally consistent than + consistent with other OSes. And it would be quite easy to fix: make the + thumb or slider a bit darker while it is being clicked. - What actually happens: - * Nothing. + This bug has nothing to do with mouseover effects, just mousedown + feedback. -- All themes fail to indicate mousedown on scrollbar thumbs and sliders https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/16414 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 93509] Re: xorg fails with ati driver with feisty on Apple ppc (post herd5 update)
I've hit this problem as well on a G5 with Radeon, in Feisty final. Driver package version is 6.6.3-2ubuntu6. With Ben Herrenschmidt's help, tracked the problem down to an Ubuntu patch which adds some VBE based DDC probing code to the driver as a fallback. Hi Scott, Thanks for re-opening the bug (and for the time you are devoting to Ubuntu)! Yes, installing (by hand) python-dev provides a complete workaround for my situation. That is why including python-dev in the "depends" list *should* provide a fix for the bug for the apt/dpkg system. BTW, I'm an experienced Python developer and Debian/Ubuntu user. If there are any python-related bugs in Feisty that you might wish to toss my way, perhaps I can help in the bug triage-ing, or even the odd patch or two for simple stuff like this... Re: [Bug 106092] Re: DemocracyPlayer has no audio...
I'm using totem-gstreamer now as I was having problems with the xine player and I changed it out trying to get it back, (xine), working; ended up having to rename the xine directory and doing a fresh install. Xine works fine now, but still the no audio in Democracy. Everything but Democracy seems to be playing fine. It is safe to say that Democracy doesn't have audio with either of those two. (The xine crash was due to me playing with audio drivers and selections in the xine settings.) I am running Feisty also, on a 3.2 Intel with a gig of RAM and GeForce 6800 with two 19" flat panels; I have been using Feisty from about the halfway point, before release; following all the upgrades, almost daily for the last three months or so. It worked perfect until the Python 2.5 upgrade and really never has worked right since then. I was able to fake it out for a little bit but something else got upgraded, (can't remember what right this minute, (poss dbus) that was the end of it) and the patches only got the web portion back going so I could download the feeds, but it wouldn't play them; I typically use xine to play the downloads. Even at that, there is still the issue of it crashing all the time, and it seems like I am not the only one having both of these problems; something is just a bittt flakey with it yet; hard to tell if the no audio and crashes are related or not; I tend to think that it very well MAY BE related; get the audio working completely right and it just might quit crashing; pure speculation on my part, but still Bill Chris Halse Rogers wrote: > Hm, the only other thing I can think of is the totem backend. [Bug 105697] Re: VMWare Player guest OS and Host Kubuntu cannot SSH into each other
I don't know about the original poster, but I have fixed this issue on my machine. Apparently with feisty there is an update to the e1000 driver that enables some functionality on the card that vmware doesn't take kindly too. I couldn't find any options with modinfo that would make e1000 act like it used too. The card works great for everything but vmware. I simply installed a new card and disabled the onboard card in bios, edited /etc/iftab with the new cards mac address for eth0, rebooted and the issue was gone. -- VMWare Player guest OS and Host Kubuntu cannot SSH into each other https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105697 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 109144] (Feisty) Eclipse 3.2.2, Subclipse 1.2.x , JavaHL library error
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libapr1 Feisty 7.04 installed. Eclipse 3.2.2 from Feisty Universe repositories. Sun Java JRE-6u1 installed. Installed Subclipse 1.2.x from update site. In Eclipse, Windows->prefs->Team->SVN immediately pops an error about not finding JavaHL library. This make Subclipse almost useless as JavaHL binding is necessary for repository access. This problem was sort of fixed when libapr0 was built with a line D_XOPEN_SOURCE=500 to the AP2_FLAGS. I tried this technique again, but no libapr was provided when rebuilding??? Is there some way to get this resolved, or some answer as to why the old technique no longer works. Is there something changed in how Apache 2.2 build the APR?? Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description doesn't yet have enough information. Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (please pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team: 1. Please include the output of the command 'uname -a' in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture. 2. Please run the command 'dmesg > dmesg.log' and attach the resulting file 'dmesg.log' to this bug report. 3. Please run the command 'sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log' and attach the resulting file 'lspci-vvnn.log' to this bug report. [Bug 99359] Re: planetpenguin-racer does not show text
Same here. I did an upgrade from edgy to feisty using Update manager (I have not tried this with a fresh install of feisty yet). Ppracer just shows just a few faint dots of garbage where the menu text should be. I am using a Matrox g400 video card with the mga driver. Then I used dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg to switch to the vesa driver. Could this be a problem in mga? There were some mga issues in edgy. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-mga/+bug/58721 When I used the vesa driver the menu text showed normally, but without the 3d acceleration, the game is too slow to play. Steps to reproduce with Feisty: 1. Use a Matrox g400 video card 2. Use the mga driver 3. Start ppracer 4. Observe that there is no readable menu text (My kids love this game. Please fix.) The Matrox g400 has worked well in the past for me using ppracer with Debian on the same machine (AMD Sempron). -- planetpenguin-racer does not show text https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99359 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 85315] Re: Please reenable CONFIG_PRISM54 again
I've also have had problems with the 2.6.20.15.27 (-generic) that came with the now stable Feisty on my laptop. The Prism54 based PCMCIA card (Netgear WG511) just wouldn't work with the modules provided by the kernel (prism54pci, prism54common, and prism54usb). What finally did work was baking my own kernel from the kernel-source package with all the default debian options/configs for i386 in tact. I only enabled the line "PRISM54=m". Then I could finally unload Ubuntu's p54 modules (from the ubuntu/wireless tree in the kernel modules directory) and modprobe the normal/ole prism54 which works like a charm again.
