[Bug 114400] can't select text in LABEL element

2007-05-13 Thread Joachim Noreiko
Public bug reported:

It's not possible to select the text on a LABEL element in a form.
For example, if I try selecting the text above the text box I am typing this
into, eg the word 'reproduce', I double-click on it or click and drag, and as
soon as I release the mouse the selection disappears.

The workaround is to select MORE than the label text, but this is not
always possible or convenient.

[Bug 113096] Re: pgrep cannot match some long filenames

2007-05-13 Thread Tom Mortimer-Jones
Looking at the man page for pgrep this isn't a bug. Looks like it is the
default behaviour for backwards compatibility with the original Solaris
version.

NOTES
The process name used for matching is limited to the 15 characters
present in the output of
/proc/pid/stat. Use the -f option to match against the complete command
line, /proc/pid/cmdline.

STANDARDS
pkill and pgrep were introduced in Sun’s Solaris 7. This implementation
is fully compatible.

[Bug 110709] Re: [feisty] VPN over PPTP with NetworkManager connects but can not be used beyond connection

2007-05-13 Thread Azalin
Unfortunately firestarter is needed for me to be able to have any connection at
all, otherwise protocol GRE is blocked and no connection is made. On another
note, when specifying to iptables that the IP adress I connect to should have
full access (which then solves the GRE problem) I cán connect. However I then
still have no permissions to ping for some reason.
It would be much better if it did just work though :-)

sendmsg: not permitted, sounds like a firewalling problem.

I suspect this is a problem with firestarter. Are you able to uninstall
it and test? You could set up some ip-up scripts to handle adding
firewall rules for other networks, but it's not really in the "general
case" that NM is designed to catch. You're not expected to have to work
with iptables, but you're also not able to tick the "firewall" box and
have it "just work" unfortunately.

Have also the same problem when using the ekiga packaged with feisty.

All sounds are normal, but when calling someone, the sound is choppy and
mechanic.

I'm now using the ekiga repositories ( deb

which corrected the problem for me.

[Bug 110709] Re: [feisty] VPN over PPTP with NetworkManager connects but can not be used beyond connection

2007-05-13 Thread Azalin
Ok, on the Routing tab there is no Protocol dialog as far as I know, but
there is a "Only use VPN for these addresses" that I checked and added
the 192.168.1.0/24 entry. Then I connected and still operation not
permitted, I can't terminal serve to the VPN server, nor ping or
anything else.

route before connection:
(situation has changed somewhat since adding vmware but that should not affect
vpn behaviour)

situation after connecting to vpn:

It just doesn't seem to repsond properly or add iptable permissions or
whatever... since I am a user not a programmer I don't think I am

2007-05-13 Thread Sven Herzberg
> I can confirm the crash when switching sizes in camorama. All of the
effects are missing in camorama 0.18 on my computer.

Are you sure you're not just mixing "empty filter pipeline" with "there
are no effects"? The effects handling of 0.17 was completely messed up
(the queues haven't been savable, extensible etc.). With 0.18 it's
actually possible to really create filter pipelines (though save and
restore still has to be implemented). But at least, it's a lot easier to
implement new filters with camorama now.

Also, the resize issue is a completely different thing.

As this bug hasn't had much attention, please find below a testcase from
the upstream bug report that reproduces the bug (so long as there are
multibyte characters in your GECOS field), whcih testcase succeeds with
the applied patch:

#include
#include

int main(void)
{
  wxString userName = ::wxGetUserName();
  printf("wxusername: %s\n", userName.c_str());

Heres a list of changes,
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/ReleaseNotes045#Inkscape_0.45.1_changes_with_respect_to_0.45

Some of those bugs look quite nasty.

The best thing to do, is make a diff against 0.45 and 0.45.1 and send
it to the maintainer. That way alot of the work has been done and
makes the process a little faster!

[Bug 114391] copy of kiosk let ltsp-build-client fail

2007-05-13 Thread Kees Kuip
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ltsp-server

I want to build a fat ltsp client which starts a java application fullscreen.
So I copied kiosk (and renamed all occurences of 'kiosk' in that file in
'duke').
But then ltsp-build-client fails because it wants to rename a file that has
already
been renamed.

In file "/usr/share/ltsp/plugins/ltsp-build-client/Ubuntu/030-kiosk" the
following
code is executed in the finalization phase:
finalization)
# make sure gdm actually starts
if [ -e $ROOT/etc/init.d/gdm ]; then
 chroot $ROOT mv /etc/rc2.d/K13gdm /etc/rc2.d/S13gdm
  fi
;;

I believe this code should ONLY be executed when the variable KIOSK has
been set. So the code should be:
finalization)
if [ -n "$KIOSK" ]; then
# make sure gdm actually starts
if [ -e $ROOT/etc/init.d/gdm ]; then
chroot $ROOT mv /etc/rc2.d/K13gdm /etc/rc2.d/S13gdm

I guess the problem could still be the quality of the data that

if things improve. If there is anything more interesting that I should

[Bug 114365] Re: random desktop hangs while using mouse

2007-05-13 Thread Cappy-chan
Same exact problem. I've been trying to narrow it down. I removed Flash 9,
thinking it might be that but it still happens. Running Opera 9, Nvidia
proprietary drivers, gaim, and apache2. I've been trying to narrow down the
problem this week.
Using USB Logitech G5 mouse with mouse polling set to 2. USB Creative Fata1ty
keyboard.

Athlon 64 3600+ X2 Brisbane, Biostar T-Force 550, 2GB G.Skill DDR2 800
:: Feisty Fawn 64

A similar problem related to this I am having is that my active window
will stop responding (gnome) and I cannot interact with the screen AT
ALL until I press alt+tab. When I do that the Alt+Tab screen flashes for
a split second and the system it back to normal. I suspect these two
problems are related.

I'll try to use https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash
when it happens again.

[Bug 114369] Re: Some default installations can only connect to google.

2007-05-13 Thread Emmet Hikory
I'm not sure how one would change a bug reqport into a support request,
although in future, that is probably the correct forum for this type of
request (which would become a bug once the correct package and problem
had been identified). Looking at a few things, if you're running GNOME,
try running `gksu network-admin`, and make sure your physical devices
are not set to Roaming mode. Also, check your proxy settings (`gnome-
network-preferences`), and any proxy configuration for Firefox or wget,
as this may be a cause.

[Bug 114390] feisty cd upgrade requires internet

2007-05-13 Thread Aidan
Public bug reported:

I had someone with a high speed internet connection, download the
alternate PowerPC CD for upgrading to feisty. I put it in my CD drive,
ran "sudo sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade" in a terminal, said no, when it asked
if I wanted to download all updates from the internet, and clicked
"upgrade" at the stage where it gives a summary of how many packages it
is going to install, upgrade, and remove, etc. It said it had to
download about 219 MB, but so does the Synaptic Package Manager, even if
it is just getting packages from a CD. So I just assumed it was the
same with this program. (I'm still not sure.) When I clicked
"upgrade", it went to a progress bar with text reading something like
"Downloading file no. of 125 of 2037" below, and the estimated remaining
time on the progress bar, which was about 1 day 12 hours. The CD drive
spun loudly until it got to file 879 or so. Then it went much slower,
and the CD drive stopped. I canceled it then, and it gave me an error
message, exactly the same as the Package Manager's when it fails to
download files. The files listed were innumerable. Definitely over a
hundred

I also read in the "README.txt" file, I found in the same directory in
/tmp/ as the one the upgrade program was running from, that the CD-ROM
upgrade, gets the files for upgrading the system from a directory on the
CD, which, when I checked, did not exist. (I'm sorry I can't remember
the path or name, but if you need it, I can get it.) This may be the
cause of the problem. Of course, I may be wrong about this, but I
thought the purpose of the alternate CD, was so that you did not have to
download all the files with the Update Manager. Is this correct?

[Bug 112840] Re: GNOME freezes after log-in for 70/80 seconds then defreezes

2007-05-13 Thread Darkmaster
Solved, it was a network related issue. After the upgrade to Feisty, the

had been altered. Fixing this file made GNOMe boot normally. I found
another bug here saying the same thing, but I don't seem to find it
anymore, sorry. So mine is a duplicated bug afterall.

Yes I agree with you, segfaults must be reported in a nice user friendly
fashion. 'Apport' was designed to do this job+bug reporting. See

same much efficiently.

[Bug 114363] Re: snd-hda-intel with flashplugin-nonfree causes browser crash on close

2007-05-13 Thread Drew Woodard
I don't know how exactly it should be flagged, I flagged it as a kernel
problem because when I was looking to see if it was a duplicate almost
all snd-hda-intel related problems (I'm only assuming that's what this
is) were filed under this category. And someone reported the problem
disappeared when switching to the 2.6.15 kernel.

I attached those files because they seem to get requested quite often
when there are sound related problems. Sorry if they aren't of any use.

I have never used oprofile before, see no mention of it in the ubuntu docs or
wiki, and little mention on the forums how should I use it?
I see that if I do "opcontrol --start" and then issue "opcontrol --shutdown" I
end up with files in /var/lib/oprofile/samples/current/ and I can get a summary
from "opreport" but I don't know if this is what is needed in this particular
case.

Should I start opcontrol in this way, reproduce the crash, then submit
the resulting files in /var/lib/oprofile/samples/current/, have it
profile a specific binary, or something else instead?
