Thanks for reporting this bug. Can someone experiencing this problem please attach their /var/log/acpid, /etc/default/acpi-support, and the output from uname -a? Also, no one mentioned which version of ubuntu they experienced this on, so if someone could also check it on Feisty, and report if it still occurs, that would be a big help. [Bug 120248] Need update to Gnome 2.18.2
Public bug reported: On 20 May 2007 the Gnome desktop update 2.18.2 was released. However, there has been no corresponding update to the Gnome packages in Ubuntu 7.04. I've noticed that past releases (with the exception of the 6.06 LTS release) seem to not package Gnome updates. [Bug 120183] Re: terminal in vi editor- the arrow keys dont offer to move in the program they infact enter some dummy characters
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 97246 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/97246 Thank you for your bug report. However, the behavior you have described is in fact the desired functionality. Traditional vi uses the h,j,k,l keys, rather than arrow keys, for moving the cursor, and it is intended that the command invoked by vi be as similar as possible to a traditional vi. If you would like to make use of vim's enhanced functionality, such as arrow-keys support, you should invoke it as vim. If you really want vi to invoke an instance of vim with extended (backwards-incompatible) functionality, you may use update-alternatives to change the /usr/bin/vi link to point to (say) /usr/bin/vim.full or /usr/bin/vim.gnome rather than /usr/bin/vim.tiny. Note that many terminals send up arrow as the sequence ESC O A, which in vi has the meaning go to normal mode, open a new line above the current one in insert mode, and insert the character 'A', which corresponds to the behavior you are seeing. This is one of the reasons a traditional vi would not accept arrow keys. As a non-compatible feature, vim uses a timeout value, where if it sees ESC, it won't switch to normal mode right away until it's followed by a character that doesn't correspond to a special escape sequence (such as arrow keys), or a short timeout has expired. This also means, that in vim, when you actually do type ESC O A..., expecting to open a new line above the current one and then start to type text, you may be surprised by vim's behavior if you type it a little too quickly. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 97246 vi not working properly under cli or terminal under gui ** Changed in: vim (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: gnome-terminal = vim Status: Confirmed = Rejected -- terminal in vi editor- the arrow keys dont offer to move in the program they infact enter some dummy characters https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120183 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 77504] Re: Problem installing Ubuntu Os (gnome settings daemon error)
I've been told that Linux in general follows the lowest common denominator design principle. For instance, if it can't find a driver that works with device X, then, it keeps trying older and older device drives until, boom, one happens to work. This often results in the box running much much much slower than it should, in terms of hardware, but happens. I am running into similar problems, and things are s slow (after this GNOME error message), than it's prohibitive in terms of installing the OS. again, nothing gets written to disk, and the install window never loads for me. [Bug 119818] wpa does not work with networkmanager, WEP works
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When I try to connect to my WPA network using knetworkmanager (Kubuntu Feisty AMD64, ndiswrapper for WiFi, latest updates included), the connection usually fails at 57%. WEP and unprotected networks work fine. I found it to be more likely to work in some cases to connect to WPA when I switched off the bcm4310 card in my laptop for a few minutes, stopped knetworkmanager and restarted the card, NetworkManager, NetworkManagerDispatcher, dhclient, dhclient3 and knetworkmanager (maybe the NetworkManager, NetworkManagerDispatcher, dhclient, dhclient3 and knetworkmanager restarting steps are not necessarily useful, but I think it is more likely to work including them). I have made copies of the systemlog during connecting and unsuccessful connecting but I do not know how to save them in launchpad, to post them would be too unclear. But they look, like the NetworkManager tries to reconnect during the dhcp negotiations, thereby breaking these... ** Affects: knetworkmanager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Needs Info -- wpa does not work with networkmanager, WEP works https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/119818 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 82307] Re: Can't copy VCD .dat files from CD to Hard Drive
If this error occurs near the end of the MPEG stream, then the MPEG stream would have played fine up to that point, and would not cause a problem with watching the film, however the actual file if copied will try every byte, and will fail on those at the end. This means that a disk manufacturer could deliberately specify such a file table as a trivial system to prevent people copying the file so easily. An MPEG stream ripper should still be able to get the data, but a straight file copy will fail. Somewhat more insidious would be to insert bad blocks into parts of the file which playback of the mpeg will cause to be skipped - like a section of the header holds the offset for the first frame, or a frame for the next frame. Again - a stream ripper should also get around this. One way to try to prove this might be to attempt, without copying, to load the files into a media player: mplayer /media/cdrom/mpegav/avseq01.dat If the errors are still there then it is something else. I tried this on a VCD on my machine, and immediately when trying to copy a file the same error was shown - which suggests it is not the end of the file. I then tried to play the .dat file in mplayer, which also failed with Seek Failed. So it must be something else. Just to clear any idea that it might be specific hardware (which I doubt), it might be worth putting which drive hardware is being used. I am using an External USB2 LG DVD+-/RW Model 8SA-2164D. If I try to make an image of the CD with dd: dd if=/dev/scd0 of=/tmp/vcd.iso dd: reading `/dev/scd0': Input/output error 0+0 records in 0+0 records out 0 bytes (0 B) copied, 2.4244 seconds, 0.0 kB/s This response is nearly immediate. Even with these results, It is possible that something is deliberately done to the VCD's file system to cause such errors to occur. However, the alternative proposed by Simos Xenitellis is now sounding more likely. Is there someone here willing to give that a go? ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed -- Can't copy VCD .dat files from CD to Hard Drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/82307 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 120248] Re: Need update to Gnome 2.18.2
This is likely to be a policy decision. Upgrading Gnome is a big thing, which could be a painful experience, and is therefore only acceptable when doing a Distro upgrade. 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) is likely to have a newer version of Gnome, though I could not tell you which will make the final. Porting newer software to older versions in the normal update tree is rarely done, and generally only patches to deal with major crashes and security exploits will be rolled in. That said, there is an Ubuntu Backports group, and a corresponding repository that can be added to your apt sources, as well as a separate bug tracker. Please read the Backports Documentation at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports. Re: [Bug 54089] Re: S3 suspend fails once in a while (Thinkpad T60, Ubuntu 6.06)
Do you still have this issue with the latest release of Ubuntu ? I haven't seen that particular hang (of the warm battery) with the most recent one or two kernel packages. Right now I am using the linux-image-2.6.20-16-generic package on feisty. Once in a while, with previous kernels, the system would fail to suspend and the half-moon LED would keep flashing. But that's rare (maybe 1% of suspends). More common, perhaps 5%, is that it won't wake from S3. I haven't seen any S3 problems with this latest package, perhaps because I've been running it for only a couple days. But the failure to wake happened two days ago with the previous kernel package, which I guess is linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic. I had to hold down the power switch until it shut down hard, then rebooted. I rebooted into the new kernel package (-16), which had been installed via 'apt-get upgrade', and I've been running this one since then. -Sanjoy -- S3 suspend fails once in a while (Thinkpad T60, Ubuntu 6.06) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/54089 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
