[Bug 119318] Re: power manager insists batter is broken

2007-06-20 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
About the current charge (since I can't post there, I don't have LJ):
instead of bugging users, the manager could simply do what it did before
it had the new profiling features. (Or, it could initialize the
profile with the old one, instead of blank data.) It will then be at
least as good as the old one, and it will get better while learning.
(Now it can be better, but it's worse than the old one the first few
charge cycles.)

About the battery max capacity, this is really weird. I took a look at
that /proc file, it looks quite strange (see below). The last/current
charge is given as more than ten times the design capacity. I think it's
probably an over-enthusiastic extrapolation (the voltage is higher than
designed, and I think there's an exponential there in the calculation).
Anyway, the warning is still weird. It should warn me I have too much
battery capacity, not too little... (By the way, I notice it has some
by design numbers for low/warning levels, they should be used to
initialize the model.)

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info
present: yes
design capacity: 5200 mAh
last full capacity: 63718 mAh
battery technology: rechargeable
design voltage: 11100 mV
design capacity warning: 520 mAh
design capacity low: 157 mAh
capacity granularity 1: 52 mAh
capacity granularity 2: 52 mAh
model number:DELL PC7646
serial number: 1660
battery type:LION
OEM info:Samsung SDI

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state
present: yes
capacity state: ok
charging state: charged
present rate:1 mA
remaining capacity: 63718 mAh
present voltage: 12352 mV

[Bug 120561] Re: Sound card not recognized in latest Feisty

2007-06-20 Thread Trismegister
I believe this to be the case now.
I'm not even sure it's a software bug as I seem to recall funny audio card
behaviour with windows.
So I will try the kernel boot options and see where this leads me!
many thanks!

[Bug 120187] Re: kubuntu crashed on install

2007-06-20 Thread Gerrit Holl
I can add some information to the latest comment:

- An integrity check of the medium did not find any errors
- A hardware check (memory) did not find any errors
- The filesystem errors were SquashFS: unable to read inode and some others,
about 8 times for every command
- Clicking on any icon or applet on the desktop (after installation) made that
icon or applet disappear and nothing more happen
- The laptop is: Acer TravelMate 4100, video ATI Radeon Mobility X700.
- The problem is completely reproducaeble.
- Before an attempt to install anything, everything worked fine, except that it
did not seem to remember manual network configuration.

After the text-based install, a working system was installed that has
not had any related problems since Sunday.

Re: [Bug 53923] TIFM bug affecting also 2.6.22

2007-06-20 Thread maco
Just for the heck of it, have you tried checking with an Edgy Live CD
that the card reader itself isn't broken? The fact that dmesg isn't
seeing anything happening there at all is a bit weird.

I tried a fresh gutsy cd, everything works on my tablet pc (even the pen
of course), but MMC cardreader. I repeat, this cardreader, with this
card I am using now, worked without any manual intervention in edgy.
Here in feisty and gutsy, the tifm_* modules won't do anything useful.
Removing those modules, then inserting SDHCI, won't do anything either
(where not doing anything means no messages in system logs in both
cases). If I remove every related module, then do the setpci hack, then
install only sdhci, I get this in the logs

Jun 20 13:27:36 ubuntu kernel: [ 510.404000] sdhci: Secure Digital
 Host Controller Interface driver
 Jun 20 13:27:36 ubuntu kernel: [ 510.404000] sdhci: Copyright(c)
 Pierre Ossman
Jun 20 13:27:36 ubuntu kernel: [ 510.404000] sdhci: SDHCI controller
 found at :03:0b.3 [104c:803c] (rev 0)

 Jun 20 13:27:36 ubuntu kernel: [ 510.404000] mmc0: SDHCI at
 0x58006800 irq 19 DMA

but nothing will happen when inserting the card (again, no messages in
 the log).

Please someone tell me how to provide more information, I am afraid that
my case can be different from others and I would like to file a proper
report *before* gutsy, since I reported a dupe of this *before feisty*
(when I was wasting my time testing the beta), then had it fixed, then
it broke again *after feisty* i.e. in the stable version. I believe in
contributing to the community and reporting problems, but I am getting
 a
little fed up with this particular bug.

[Bug 121361] pwc webcam driver does assign group video thate does not exist to /dev/video0

2007-06-20 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-generic

I had always problems with my philips video webcam, and I though it was a big
problem, I realised it is a issue of rights...
When the pwc module is loading, it is creating the device /dev/video0 with grp
video which is not present by default on ubuntu feisty !

I'm not sure what is the best way to correct this for the next releases,
add the group or change the module to create the device with grp plugdev
or audio... ?

I hope this will help to fix the problem in the next updates...

  2. Disable image displaying: Edit - Preferences - Conent. Unset option
Load images automatically.
  3. Go to http://citcity.ru/16022
  4. Right-click on image in text (named images_2.jpg) and select View image
  5. If you are quite (un)fortunately you'll see this bug.

- I've tried to reproduce it about 10 times but all worked right.
+ I've also reproduced it with form button and with typacal link on two
+ other pages.

  Best regards,
  Arseny.

[Bug 121365] active plugin list not read from the backend

2007-06-20 Thread Alessandro Decina
Public bug reported:

compiz in gutsy uses the ccp configuration plugin by default.
The ccp plugin doesn't read the active plugin list from the configuration
backend
(gconf here) but always uses the default list hardcoded at
/usr/share/compizconfig/global.xml.

The fix is straightforward, i'm attaching a bundle with the one-liner
that should fix the bug.

Thanks for your response. Since that time, I have re-loaded Feisty two

[Bug 106199] Re: [feisty] 50% of cpu when a page is waiting to load

2007-06-20 Thread Daniel Pirch
I noticed that the following conditions must be met for the problem to
occur:

1. The tab with the slow loading file must be selected (mentioned above)
2. The tab bar must be displayed (with default configuration, the tab bar will
not be shown if there is only one tab)
3. The tab must be the first (leftmost) tab, although it sometimes also happens
in other tabs. I can let the CPU usage go up and down by dragging the
concerning tab to the left and back.

It doesn't seem to depend on add-ons or settings, I tested it after
renaming away my ~/.mozilla directory.

Description: flexible audio player, similar to Amarok, but written in GTK+
Exaile is a media player aiming to be similar to KDE's Amarok, but for GTK+.
It incorporates many of the cool things from Amarok (and other media players)
like automatic fetching of album art, handling of large libraries, lyrics
fetching, artist/album information via the wikipedia, last.fm support, optional
iPod support (assuming you have python-gpod installed).

In addition, Exaile also includes a built-in shoutcast directory browser,
tabbed playlists (so you can have more than one playlist open at a time),
blacklisting of tracks (so they don't get scanned into your library),
downloading of guitar tablature from fretplay.com, and submitting played tracks
on
 your iPod to last.fm.

 Homepage: http://www.exaile.org/

It also freezes while playing 30 odd mp3 files.

[Bug 108462] Re: [kde] Upgrade to Feisty fails due to postgresql-common_73_all.deb

2007-06-20 Thread Martin Pitt
You probably still had a very old postgresql installed and ignored the
debconf warning that this was going to break. Anyway, that test is
removed now in gutsy's version:

postgresql-common (74) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/supported_versions:
- Match any 4.0* as Debian Etch to get the correct set of supported
  versions. Closes: #420915
- Add Lenny/unstable: only support 8.2.
- Add Ubuntu 7.10.
- Don't fail if the distribution cannot be determined at all, only print
  out a warning.
  * pg_createcluster, pg_ctlcluster, pg_dropcluster, pg_maintenance,
pg_upgradecluster: Strip down PATH untainting to the absolute minimum, to
not fall over if e. g. /usr/local/bin is misconfigured to be world
writable. Closes: #420565
  * pg_wrapper: Make this script work with taint checks enabled. This happens
in a pretty blunt way, since it does not actually make sense to enforce
environment variables, etc. It should just not fail when being called from
a -T perl script. Closes: #422129
  * debian/postgresql-common.postinst: Do not hide failures of the init
script on restart.
  * debian/postgresql-common.config, debian/postgresql-common.templates:
Remove the check for an untransitioned postgresql, since it was only
necessary for the Sarge-Etch upgrade. Update debian/po/*.po.
  * Remove debian/postgresql-common.preinst, we only needed it for the
untransitioned test.
  * debian/control: Move cdbs and debhelper from B-D-I to B-D, since we need
them for 'clean'.
  * Add debian/postgresql-client-common.lintian: Lintian overrides for 'binary
without manpage'. The stuff in /usr/bin is just a symlink to pg_wrapper,
postgresql-client-* ships the actual manpages for those.

Just run 'galternatives' and scroll downt he list until you find 'gs'!

[Bug 109309] Re: restricted manager dies on startup using live CD

It may have been a problem with the CD burned from an ISO.
I tried this again with an official CD and it ran the restricted-manager

Unfortunately, I didn't keep track of the CD that I was using when the problem

The strange thing is that it tries to load the module irda0 which
doesn't exist, that would be the network interface if this whole thing
worked.

I think this is the reason why irdadump doesn't show anything when my phone is
there and sending data.
Since it worked in edgy, it must be a relatively small bug somewhere.
Any idea?

[Bug 121372] Bug migrating active plugins from gconf to ccp

2007-06-20 Thread Alessandro Decina
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

compiz.wrapper in gutsy tries to migrate the list of the active plugins from
the old location
to the new one used by libcompizconfig.
It does so by doing this:
...
# convert plugin list
if [ -x /usr/bin/gconftool-2 ]; then
plugins=`gconftool-2 -g
/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins|sed -e 's/,/\ /g' -e
's/\[//' -e 's/\]//'`
for i in $plugins; do
gconftool-2 -s /apps/compiz/plugins/$i/__plugin_enabled true -t boolean;
done
gconftool-2 -s /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins [] -t
list --list-type string
fi
...

The key set with gconftool-2 -s should be
/apps/compiz/plugins/$i/allscreens/options/plugin_enabled, that is
under allscreens/options/ and with four underscores not two.

[Bug 15093] Re: gksudo fails if using libpam-krb5 for password auth

2007-06-20 Thread levien
Hi Eddie,

Well, I'm no expert on this I'm afraid. But as far as I understand it
the problem is as follows: gksudo is basically a graphical front-end for
sudo, and therefore it needs to know when sudo asks for a password. PAM
modules however present their own prompt, which may be quite different
from the standard Password: one. If that happens, gksudo will not
recognise the custom password prompt and will just keep waiting. The
first patch just tells sudo to override the PAM prompt in such cases, so
that gksudo will recognise it. The problem is that this breaks certain
kinds of authentication (which of course is not a problem if you don't
need those, as in my case). The second patch adds an option to sudo
allowing for a postfix-string to be appended to the password prompt.
gksudo can then simply wait for this string, and then pass its password
to sudo. However, this patch is still waiting to be included in sudo. As
it has been submitted in two years ago, it seems that the sudo
developers do not consider it to be a priority feature.

So in short, the problem with gksudo and pam is not really a bug, it is
just a result of the way gksudo is implemented as a front-end to sudo.
The best way to get it fixed would be to let the sudo maintainers know
that this is really a feature that people do need, and to help them test
it. Here is sudo bugzilla link again:
http://www.sudo.ws/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=180

As for your problem, the patched version of sudo may or may not solve
it. It probably depends on what kind of prompt the bioapi module
presents, if any. I wouldn't be too worried about patching sudo though.
You can easily see what the patch does just by looking at the code.
Furthermore, you can always go back to the original sudo if it doesn't
work. The only problem is that the link to the patched version will
probably get overwritten if sudo is updated...

Best regards,
Levien

[Bug 106995] Re: gnome-terminal unconditionally interprets mouse wheel events

2007-06-20 Thread Micah Cowan
Please specify the versions of the libvte-common and gnome-terminal
packages installed on your system.

What exactly do you mean by history scrolling? Do you mean that it
scrolls through bash's command line history?

gnome-terminal should never send _any_ escape codes for mouse actions,
unless it has specifically been asked to. Something has asked it to. Do
you only encounter this action after running certain programs, or do you
have a customized .bashrc?

Please move any .bashrc you have, to a temporary location (where bash
won't read it by default, and open a new gnome-terminal. Does this
behavior still occur?

This was a first time occurance.

I logged out of KDE with Konqueror open on a few web pages (something i

When logging back in I got an error message. It was something to the
effect of malformed URL 'about:blank . That was immediatly followed
by Konqueror Crashing.

Here is the backtrace:

[Bug 119063] FOUND!

2007-06-20 Thread aexl
I found the reason in my case: (see source below)
when there is more than one dcopserver process, powerbtn.sh rudely shuts down
all of them.

this (extra dcopserver) may come from a second kde session, but also (as
in my case) from a sudo kate powerbtn.sh (the second dcopserver lives
on!).

i think the named behaviour is wrong. powerbtn.sh should either
- ask the user in the currently active session
- or just hibernate without destroying anything

best aexl
ps: remarkable fact that bugtracking helped trigger the bug in this case ;-)

from /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh:

KDESES=`pidof dcopserver | wc -w`
if [ $KDESES -eq 1 ] ; then
# single KDE session - ask user
/usr/bin/dcop --all-sessions --all-users ksmserver ksmserver logout 1 2 0
exit 0
else
# more than one KDE session - just send shutdown signal to all of them
/usr/bin/dcop --all-sessions --all-users ksmserver ksmserver logout 0 2
0 exit 0
fi

0.7 is gone from gutsy ... so the dependencies might have been removed
from gutsy archive, because no package references it.

No need to worry if 0.8 works (which is the version i called to test
in the beginning).

[Bug 121383] Custom DSDT not loading with kernel 2.6.22-6-generic

2007-06-20 Thread Brad Peters
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

My laptop has a weird DSDT which is not supported out of the box. Under
Feisty, I could load a custom DSDT that would enable sound on my laptop.
Since my upgrade this morning, I noticed I did not have sound. I
checked /var/log/messages and noted the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /var/log/messages | grep DSDT
Jun 20 08:49:58 localhost kernel: [ 20.165245] ACPI: Looking for DSDT in
initramfs... successfully read 31951 bytes from /DSDT.aml.
Jun 20 08:49:58 localhost kernel: [ 20.165305] ACPI (tbget-0297): Table
[DSDT] replaced by host OS [20060707]

TOSQCI Denver 604 MSFT 301)

The upgrade occurred around 11am. As you can see, prior to the upgrade
the DSDT was loaded correctly, however now it is not loaded. I hope
this functionality was not done away with, as I have no other options
that I'm aware of to get sound working.
