[Bug 123549] Re: High Capacity SD Card not mounted on feisty (edgy regression)
I can confirm that there are problems with (certain?) SD cards on feisty. This is using the computers built-in card reader (7-in-one, attached on internal usb 1.x interface) I have a 2gb sd card which *is* automounted and size shows up as 2gb in nautilus, but if I try to format it using mkfs.vfat, or use fdisk to look at it - it is only 1 gb according to the kernel. I also get lots of errors from dmesg about accessing past the device's boundaries. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sd_memory_card#Compatibility_issues_with_2GB_and_larger_cards) indicates that there are known problems with large (>2gb) sd cards and windows xp also has problems with it (driver update fixes it for xp though). As a workaround, I currently put the card in my camera or mp3-player and mount it through the device's usb-storage interface. I can provide further information upon request - just let me know what kind of information you need. -- High Capacity SD Card not mounted on feisty (edgy regression) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123549 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 124801] Re: Connection drops at high traffic using rtl8187 driver
I was interrupted when writing the last post, so here's some more. Motherboard is Asus P5W DH Deluxe, and the wireless is fixed onboard as an usb device (not really sure it's usb but windows thinks its removable and it's fixed into motherboard as a little independent device). NVidia card is a pretty 7950gx2. I now realize I missed an important detail before. Connection hanging may be a better description of the problem, as networkmanager does not say the connection is down. The connection stops working, but there's no sign it's disconnected. [Bug 110636] Re: hdparm - cannot set dma on IDE hard drive that works via pata
"either way, this wont get fixed in feisty." It is definately a lack of functionality in the driver. My CD drive does support DMA, as it worked pre-libata. I think this is an important issue, and should be addressed WITHIN feisty. Since the old pata driver is still included, all that is needed is a simple way (a script maybe?) to switch back to it. I have tried to do this by blacklisting libata, but this did not work. I'm sure the kernel team is much more knowledgeable about how to do this. Could they not whip up a quick and dirty script for us? It would sure please a lot of people. Feisty is noticably slower than previous versions of Ubuntu for me. Whenever heavy disk activity is going on (like tracker indexing), the computer becomes extremely unresponsive and difficult to use. This is exactly like what I used to experience under Windows when the hard disk was not in DMA mode. Sorry if I'm bugging with this, but this security-related bug has been unresolved for almost a whole month now, and OpenOffice.org is part of Ubuntu's main repositories. The time it takes Ubuntu to provide updated packages for security vulnerabilities in some areas (just take a look how long it took Ubuntu to provide updated Firefox packages in recent months) is way to long. [Bug 124922] Re: Video plays very slow using gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
As far as I have investigated, the bug is not primarily connected to the gstreamer-.10-ffmpeg package. The systems performs the same with ffmpeg package installed. So. The bug is occured when I send my laptop to the sleep mode (suspend mode). Hibernation mode still not tested. Reinstalling the packages doesn't work to make the video run better - only the deINSTALL and then INSTALL order may help. After that all is working ok, until next sleeping of the machine. Even reboot BEFORE sleep mode doesn't affect the video playback rate. And reboot AFTER sleep mode also have no positive affect to fix the problem. The problem occurs BOTH with ffmpeg and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg packages (and I may suppose, that with other video codecs too...) and with ALL (I guess, still tested only 3) video players. Why does the sleep mode distort the video codec??? Is it only Xubuntu/IBM TP/Suspend mode/Video problem/kernel? Or some mixture. If anyone direct me, how to test it further, I will surely do. P.S. I ask the moderator to link my two messages and to replace them into another bug category. [Bug 78078] Re: [feisty] nm gives me an ip even if there is no cable
Sorry, the bug is still here. I will attach some logs and describe the new situation in gutsy: now if you boot without the cable, nm will think that you are connected, this is different in feisty, because there was the missing connectivity icon! When you start gnome you can see the 2 meteors icon, that inform the user that the network is acquiring an address, and then you will get the normal 2 computers icon, which means that you are connected. If you go to connection information, you see everything 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 ecc. but if you do as ifconfig you can see the eth0:avah interface :( I will do some more tests and describe what happens when I replug the cable after the eth0:avah interface is brought up ** Changed in: avahi (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => Confirmed -- [feisty] nm gives me an ip even if there is no cable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/78078 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 100114] Re: snd-hda-intel: distorted sound after resume, until the module is reloaded
Great to see some work on this! I'm not too familiar with DMA, but I'll try to help a bit. I started to trace the DMA transfer process by verifying that the interrupts are correctly setup after resume. It seems this is working: azx_interrupt() is called a number of times proportional to the length of playback. The attached file explains this in more detail. By the way, the length of playback after resume is not constant for me; a sound of less than a second may take a couple of seconds or may seem to have no end. ** Attachment added: "int-trace-01.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8354762/int-trace-01.txt -- snd-hda-intel: distorted sound after resume, until the module is reloaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/100114 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 113532] Re: kernel 2.6.20 disk write performance much slower than 2.6.17
It seems that the problem may be related to the fact that the IDE drives are now handled by the SATA drivers and thus in some cases hdparm can't set options correctly on some drives. As i said i have 2 IDE drives in my computer one issue slow down the other not so feel free to ask me any output that would help you to find what is the configuration option which make the second hard drives to work slowly. For the record some have noticed also this slow down on suse with the kernel 2.6.20 so there's really something with the way the 2.6.20 kernel is handling IDE drives. Hope this can be improved and a workaround released. -- kernel 2.6.20 disk write performance much slower than 2.6.17 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113532 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

the patch breaks kdm because it enforces a hard-coded $HOME, while kdm sets up its own one dynamically - it's not my fault that the admin and the system have the same user id on unix. :) the patch is utterly misguided. not any applications, but sudo should be fixed. for su, the x-aware variant sux exists (dunno whether it handles ICEAUTHORITY properly - if not, that's another thing to fix). the same can be done with sudo, either directly in sudo or also with a wrapper script. -- KDM detected memory corruption https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/47455 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 100114] Re: snd-hda-intel: distorted sound after resume, until the module is reloaded
Oh cool! Someone else that knows how to hack :) I've been reading the Intel HDA Programmers Reference Manual (http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/hdaudio.htm) and from what I've learned so far the problem appears to be with the handling of the output buffers. Here's the description of what should be happening: ICH6 HDA/AC'97 Programmers Reference Manual 1.2.6.3 Resume Context Recovery When the system is placed in a power-down state (S3 or greater) power is removed from the ICH6 AC '97 controller. In this state, DMA registers lose information regarding current position and pointer values. The device driver must be able to save the context of all DMA engines before acknowledging a D3 state. Device drivers must assume that D3 state request precedes a total system power lost therefore context for DMA engines. Upon system power resume, the device driver must restore the DMA Engine register accordingly to saved values prior the suspend event. 4.6.6 Stream Steady State Operation Once the stream has been started, the hardware will continue fetching data from the Cyclic Buffer described by the Buffer Descriptor List. For an output stream, software is responsible for making sure that valid data is present in the buffers before it is fetched by the hardware. For an input stream, data must be removed from the buffers before being overwritten by hardware. *** When the hardware has reached the end of the Cyclic Buffer, it will automatically wrap back around to the beginning of the buffer and continue to process the stream data until the stream is stopped by the software by clearing the RUN bit. *** Software can either use interrupts at the end of selected buffers by setting the IOC bit in the BDL entry or can poll the stream position to determine when to process the stream data. So it seems to me we should focus our attention on how the BDL and memory allocation is handled, and specifically what is setup prior to a suspend (even when no output is active) that is subsequently used when outputting sound. I suspect what we will discover is that during suspend/resume one or more structures and/or memory relating to Buffer Descriptor Lists or page memory buffers is not being restored, or else the IOC bit isn't being restored or acted upon. Note the text I've highlighted above with *** ... *** which would on the face of it describe the symptoms we are hearing (is the ISR countdow. We should try to divide our labours: can I suggest that you continue hacking at the kernel, focusing in on the buffer code whilst I continue reading up on HDA and analysing the source-code? For various reasons I'm not keen to be disturbing the kernel right now because of other things I'm working on. -- snd-hda-intel: distorted sound after resume, until the module is reloaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/100114 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
