[Bug 130086] Re: Graphical installers don't include application previews
Thanks for your report. Your idea might get more attention and have the possibility of being implemented if you would submit a specification for this. I suggest being a bit more specific on how you would implement this feature. For example, do you want to integrate all the screenshots in app-install-data, as a separate package or do you want to have them downloaded separately when needed? How do you make the files available to adept or gnome-app-install, via the .desktop files or through a kind of filename scheme? You should first check whether it already exists at the Ubuntu specs page ( https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+specs ) in Launchpad. If that is the case, please feel free to contact the drafter of that spec about your comments/suggestions. Otherwise you can start writing a spec following the steps described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureSpecifications . [Bug 130087] pt_BR translation broke Python syntax highlighting
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit Using the pt_BR gedit, the Python syntax highlighting is broken for non- multiline strings (as in -> "String" will not be highlighted). [Bug 130086] Graphical installers don't include application previews
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: adept While going through the install process for applications at a recent InstallFest, the user was somewhat surprised that screenshots or icons were not included in the package summary view. It would be nice if there were some kind of preview for applications (falling back to and/or including the application icon), so that users would be able to get a visual idea of what the application was used for. For console applications -- or if a screenshot does not seem suitable and an icon is not available -- a placeholder may be appropriate. I was referred to download.com as an example of this, which uses 160x120 jpeg images (although png would be preferable) for applications. Just as a starting point, here's one such application with a screenshot: http://www.download.com/Ghost-Installer-Free- Edition/3000-2216_4-10306270.html I've done a mock-up of what this might look like in adept, by adding an image of the application, umbrello, into the bottom right corner of a screenshot found at www.kubuntu.org: http://user.interface.org.nz/~gringer/pics/adept-screenshot_preview.png This is not a bug specifically for adept (it would be applicable to all graphical installers), but adept was the package that was being used at the time it was noticed. ** Affects: adept (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Graphical installers don't include application previews https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130086 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, Thank you Dawid. If someone is willing to use this documentation (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ekiga), there is no problem as it is under cc-by-sa. You might also consider dropping some part of it in the process: Title 4: Register to a commercial VoIP provider (landline and mobile phones) is subject to change and refer to businesses. Except maybe the "default provider" included in Ekiga. It will probably need an explanation on howto dial phone numbers like the one i just added to this wiki. Title 6: Install the latest version contradict the Ubuntu policy (package quality support) and Gutsy will have the last version (or very close to). Title 8: Edgy 6.10 Troubleshooting exclusively mention Ubuntu 6.10. Thus doesn't seems necessary for Gutsy. This left titles 1, 2, 3, 4 (partially), 5, 7 and 9. Possibly. [Bug 129260] Re: corruption when using md raid1 on amd64 smp
** Summary changed: - opteron amd64 data corruption + corruption when using md raid1 on amd64 smp ** Description changed: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-28-amd64-server md5sum returns inconsistent results when run repeatedly on a large text - file stored on a linux software (md) raid1 volume. + file stored on a linux software (md) raid1 volume (ext3). md5sum works + fine when using a single standalone disk (also ext3). The two machines are both amd64 dual-core, but they are otherwise different. [Bug 71671] Re: /etc/papersize contains "a4" rather than "letter" in Edgy
This is only half of the problem, You also have other files to set (as I stated in #46613) Here is what you do to fix. As root do the following: (yes, this has to be done in a root shell not with sudo. If sudo su - doesn't give you a root shell, do sudo /bin/bash --login, better yet, give the root account a password and log in as root) apt-get install libpaper-utils #some programs use this library to get the paper size papersize -p letter #this sets /etc/papersize to letter, you could also set this manually. echo "letter" >/etc/psPaperSize #some other applications use this Other applications instead allow you to select the default papersize, or use the printer settings, others use these two files. The files in /etc set the preferred paper size. If these aren't set some printers, like my HP Color LaserJet 2605n, will complain about the incorrect paper size being in the print tray, and will refuse to print until you insert in A4 paper size, or override the settings. -- /etc/papersize contains "a4" rather than "letter" in Edgy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/71671 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 46613] Re: Always prints A4 paper
I am using 7.04, this is also an issue with previous versions of Ubuntu through 6.06. I have confirmed this to be a problem too when printing PDF files from other applications (xpdf, lpr, ggv). The problem is that the Ubuntu install/configuration process does not give an option to select the preferred paper size and does not install some utilities by default. While this is fine for those on the other side of the planet, this causes problems for those who have more expensive HP printers that won't print until the correct paper size has been selected in the tray. Notably, my HP Color LaserJet 2605n... It flashes "Please insert A4 in Tray 1" even though the PDF file is formatted for Letter and not A4. Here is what you do to fix. As root do the following: (yes, this has to be done in a root shell not with sudo. If sudo su - doesn't give you a root shell, do sudo /bin/bash --login, better yet, give the root account a password and log in as root) apt-get install libpaper-utils #some programs use this library to get the paper size papersize -p letter #this sets /etc/papersize to letter, you could also set this manually. echo "letter" >/etc/psPaperSize #some other applications use this All Fixed. Now you guys get to make a pretty GUI to do this in the printer setup dialoge box :-P Another cavet I have is the default language for Firefox is set to en- gb, and there is no language options for en-us and en-ca, both of which use different spellings for words like color/colour, program/programme, center/centre, and so forth. Seems to be unrelated to bug #127925 or bug #129120 as the stacktrace shows it originating from countdown_expose_cb, theme.c and /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 one level lower. Changing the gconf key on /app/notification-daemon/theme to 'standard' avoids the crash, so narrowing it down to the Ubuntu engine.
