[Bug 152799] DVD reading problem

2007-10-14 Thread antrophos
Public bug reported:

I've got at home a DVD for installing my favourite game WoW. Blizzard
seems to have done something special to the DVD for having Windows and
Mac installer on same DVD and only showing the necessary to the user.
However on my old Ubuntu 7.04 I can see the whole DVD content while on
my 7.10 RC I only can see the part thought for Mac. This is bad because
it didn't show me the files necessary for Win/Wine installation of the
game.

[Bug 152742] Re: Blackberry 7730, possibly others don't work in at least Edgy Eft, Gutsy Gibbon

2007-10-14 Thread Scott James Remnant
Killing udevd just stops the module being loaded after you rmmod it.

You could always just blacklist it:

Why does this module cause this problem? Do the other distributions not
ship this module?

[Bug 152791] Re: Kontact pops up Resource Selection dialog with two identical entries

2007-10-14 Thread Rajappa Iyer
OK.

I found out what the problem is.

In the file ~/.kde/share/config/kresources/calendar/stdrc, the offending
line was:

ResourceKeys=N5eXaSIgR8,N5eXaSIgR8

where N5eXaSIgR8 was, of course, the key for the Standard resource.
Removing the repetition of the resource key seems to do the trick.
Restarting the reminder daemon does not result in this entry being overwritten.

If I rm the stdrc file and restart kontact, it does create two profiles,
but different ones (i.e. both are not standard)

However, this should still be considered a bug since by default Kontact
creates a bogus entry for ResourceKeys.

[Bug 152794] nis daemon fails to attach to domain the first time it is run in Gutsy

2007-10-14 Thread James R. Phillips
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nis

In my Gutsy install (upgraded from beta server install to RC-1) the nis
daemon fails to properly attach to the domain the first time it is run
(at boot). The console prints [failed] instead of [ok], and network
logins don't work (however local logins do). After restarting nis, it
attaches properly.

I find error messages in the syslog like this:

[Bug 152792] adept_manager: crash "Tags I want" inconsistency

2007-10-14 Thread PraysToPan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept

Start adept manager. Select 'Show' 'Not Installed' only. Select
'[suite]/[kde] in 'the 'All' tab in the 'Available Tags' frame and drop
it into 'Tags I Want'. Install any package. After install, the package
list refreshes showing packages with all tags yet the 'Tags I want'
field still shows '[suite][kde]'. Add the '[suite][kde]' tag again and
adept manager crashes with signal 11.

This backtrace appears to be of no use.
This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents
creation of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in
the crash.

[Bug 152416] Re: GNOME panels are smaller than detected and set resolution

2007-10-14 Thread Peter Clifton
I'm not sure why, but its detecting that you've got a TV connected,
probing 1024x768 as the biggest mode its capable of, and that is whats
causing your problem:

(II) intel(0): Printing probed modes for output TV
(II) intel(0): Modeline "1024x768"x30.0 26.89 1024 1025 1088 1120 768 769

(II) intel(0): Modeline "848x480"x30.0 14.51 848 849 912 944 480 481 512

(II) intel(0): Modeline "640x480"x30.0 11.31 640 641 704 736 480 481 512
513 (15.4 kHz)

What sort of TV out connector does the laptop have? (Do you have
anything plugged into it? Nothing broken off in the socket?)

As far as I know, the hardware detects the TV connection by its
electrical loading, so I don't know why its being confused here.

After upgrading to (Kernel 2.6.22-12) I experienced the same thing as
described up above. I lost all sound, and the master control on the the
mixer failed to appear instead I get the headphone control. But when I
insert a set of headphone into the jack I get no sound.

I get the same output as previously mention with both "lspci, and

[Bug 152788] Dolphin drag and drop targets wrong directory

2007-10-14 Thread hads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dolphin

This bug seems like it should be rather high severity as it will likely
confuse a number of people. Especially considering that Dolphin will be
the default file manager.

To reproduce;

Using Dolphin in either "Icon" or "Preview" view mode, in a directory
with a large amount of sub directories, scroll down past the first
"page" of icons. Then try to drag a subdir to another subdir. The
information pane will show an incorrect drop target and if you complete
the drop (move/copy) the directory will be moved/copied to this
incorrect target.

On my system (dolphin 0.9.2-0ubuntu2) the drop target appears to follow
where the folder icon would be on the first page of results. Asking a
user on #kubuntu to confirm they showed that the drop target would
default to the first folder visible.

Thanks.

[Bug 128876] Re: strigidaemon causes 100% CPU and crashes after a while

2007-10-14 Thread Adric Riedel
My system has been running for seven hours now, and every three minutes
or so it suddenly goes into VERY heavy load (70% CPU; I've even seen
99%) while Strigi does... something.

I never seem to get more than one or two minutes of no load.

[Bug 129505] Re: Docs required on desktop search tools

So we have tracker by default now, I'd imagine this bug should mostly be
fixed by having "Places->Search for files" and other nautilus searches
use tracker as the backend (assuming they don't already) and improving
or locally patching the gnome2-docs if neccessary.

[Bug 152786] clicks sometimes not registered in Flash plugin

2007-10-14 Thread Mikel Ward
Public bug reported:

On the Gutsy RC with Compiz visual effects enabled, I can't play the
Desktop Tower Defense Flash game (http://www.handdrawngames.com). Many
mouse clicks aren't registered. Either you have to click exactly in the
middle of the widget (e.g. exactly in the middle of a button or a tower)
or the clicks just aren't being registered.

I'm on amd64 with the Adobe Flash 9 plugin via flashplugin-nonfree and
nspluginwrapper.

Everything works fine if I disable Compiz.

[Bug 152785] collection goes back to start after data is saved

2007-10-14 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

When you change an image (say, rotate it) and save, then press
left/right to go to a neighbouring picture, you are sent back to the

NO image is selected.

[Bug 122328] Re: kernel-2.6.22-7.14 dumps it's core

2007-10-14 Thread Stevko
Same here, but with 2.6.22-14. I tried upgrading to gutsy (I changed feisty to
gutsy in sources.list and run apt-get dist-upgrade) and it did not boot (I
could use previous linux-image in grub, so I can boot and send the log). Log is
very similar, but it cannot harm, if I put it here. I hope it is the correct
place and enough info.
CTRL+ALT+DELETE reboots the machine, and it responds to shift page-up/down.

[Bug 108083] Re: The default firefox start page doesn't link to ubuntu.com

2007-10-14 Thread Dean Sas
Hi Eero, your patch will mean that the file will no longer be Valid
XHTML 1.0 Strict due to the "border" attribute.

You could get around this by using CSS to control the appearance of the
page. If the anchor tag is to directly include an image then an alt tag
should be supplied (and left blank if appropriate)

Same issue for me on a clean install of Gutsy RC after installing the

Obviously the workaround is to disable Compiz visual effects.

[Bug 152784] Mouse wheel scroll very slow

2007-10-14 Thread Kostas Chatzikokolakis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vim-gnome

In the gtk gui of vim you can scroll the window using the mouse wheel.
Scrolling is fast and smooth. However, if you open the "open file"
window and then close it (even without selecting anything) then
scrolling becomes much slower, to a degree that it's irritating.

I'm using the latest gutsy beta. vim-gnome version is
1:7.1-056+2ubuntu2.

Steps to reproduce the problem
- execute gvim
- write a big chunk of text (eg write a line and then press "yy" and "100p")
- scroll with the mouse wheel. it's fast and smooth
- open the "edit file" window by selecting "file/open..." from the menu or give
the ":browse e" command
- press cancel to close the window
- scroll again. now it's much slower.

The problem is always reproducable. I use an empty .vimrc.

The same bug is also reproducable with vim-gtk.

secondary monitor. I can perfectly switch it off during GDM, and work further
happily on my primary screen.

So in short:

Screen 1 turned on, Screen 2 turned on: X starts, screen 2 in mirror
mode, I can switch it off perfectly and work further, unless I need to
go to the login screen again.

Screen 1 turned on, Screen 2 turned off: X fails.

Screen 1 turned on, Screen 2 detached: X starts and works perfectly.

Here's my xorg.conf, which is a very simple one.

# xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by failsafeDexconf, using
# values from the debconf database and some overrides to use vesa mode.

[Bug 121362] Re: nm-applet thinks it's connected to the wired network, when it's connected to the wireless network

2007-10-14 Thread Sam Peterson
I can confirm this as well. I experienced it several times in Gutsy.
The work around for me was to disable roaming for my wired network.
That was an okay solution for me because I use wireless almost
exclusively for connecting to the Internet.

[Bug 152775] Menus are shared between all virtual desktops

2007-10-14 Thread Ryan Prior
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

The menus such as Applications, Places, and System, as well as tooltips,
are shared between all virtual desktops instead of confined to the
current one. This becomes apparent when you configure the desktop as a
transparent cube. Set the non-rotating transparency to, say, 50% and
open a menu or hold your mouse over a menu item -- and watch as the
tooltip/menu appears on all the other visible cube faces as well.

[Bug 152773] Task bar is shared by all desktops

2007-10-14 Thread Ryan Prior
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I am running Gutsy's Compiz with Xgl and I have the desktop in cube
configuration. When I rotate the cube with my mouse to find the face
that contains a program I'm looking for, the task bar for each desktop
is the same as the desktop I was on when the rotate began. This means
that if the window I am looking for is hidden behind another one on a
different desktop, I have to flip through to every desktop in order to
find it.

In order to fix the bug, create a different instance of the window list
for each face of the cube and show them on the correct positions. This
will make finding windows much easier and will improve usability.

[Bug 151521] Re: Error mounting NTFS volume

2007-10-14 Thread novaheat
This happened to me also.

Make sure that the mount point (/media/hda7) actually exists (I had to
create new mount points for both of my NTFS drives after upgrading to
Gutsy) and try the force option.

I also added the appropriate information to /etc/fstab, as that file
seems to have been re-created during the upgrade to Gutsy without re-
adding my NTFS drives. In any case, it worked and I am able to access
the drives with no problems.

[Bug 152769] clock runs slow - seconds change every 4-7 seconds

2007-10-14 Thread Howard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Using Feisty c/w latest upgrades running in Virtual Machine Ware on Dell
Inspiron 5315 c/w Vista. Clock v.2-18-1 Two problems:
 a) In 'manual' mode time shown on clock lags behind actual time. To correct
the clock reading I use the time adjustment window and manually synchronize the
time to the correct time. I have noted that the seconds window changes only
every 4 to 7 actual seconds- - for example, if I have just synchronized the
time and the seconds read '23' they will change to '24' only after an interval
of 4 to 7 actual seconds. Consequently the clock always reads a time that is
lagged behind the actual time.
b) auto synchronization of the time doesn't work at all - the appropriate time
zone (America/Vancouver) and internet servers (clock.tricity.wsu.edu) are
chosen but the synchronization never occurs. The clock simply stops at
whatever time was shown immediately after the reading when the 'adjust time and
date' window was accessed. I have tried various internet servers with the same
lack of results. Auto synchronization doesn't ever seem to occur.

[Bug 152772] Random system freeze if multicore processing is enabled on Samsung R20 with Intel Core Duo T2350

2007-10-14 Thread Thomas Hammerl
Public bug reported:

I've installed Feisty on my Samsung R20 and experienced random system
freezes. Sometimes the freeze happens a few minutes after startup and
sometimes the system runs for a few hours without any problem until the
crash. The system halts and stays completely unresponsive. If sound is
active at the time of the freeze the last few milliseconds of the sound
are repeated over and over again. I tried to ping the freezed system and
i tried to log in via SSH from another machine but got no response.
Memtest didn't show any errors and cpu temperature was normal (TZ00: 50°
celsius, TZ01: 27° celsius). Nothing suspicious was written to the
logfiles in /var/log at the time of the freeze.

I upgraded to Gutsy to see if this would solve the issue but the new
kernel (2.6.22-14) wouldn't boot so I'm using Gutsy with the Feisty
kernel (2.6.20-16). The system still randomly crashed in this
environment.

Disabling multicore support in my system's BIOS seems to have solved my
problem. I even can boot with the new 2.6.22-14-kernel now but I'm still
using the 2.6.20-16-kernel because wifi isn't working with the new
kernel.

My hardware:

 * Intel Core Duo T2350 @ 1,86 GHz

 * 128 MB ATI Radeon Express X1250

[Bug 127325] Re: No graphs after upgrade to Feisty

2007-10-14 Thread dAniel hAhler
I've not used the patch provided in the upstream report
(http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1807476&group_id=14653&atid=114653).

My patch makes sure, that the parameters for array_merge are of type
array always (to mimic the PHP4 behaviour).

This fix _should_ work, but I've not tested it. Please confirm, if it
works for you (either by applying just the patch to phplot.php or
building a new package using the whole debdiff, see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuPackagingGuide/BuildFromDebdiff).

[Bug 152766] Aide fails silently

2007-10-14 Thread Harvey Muller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: aide

Error Description
==

After installing Aide, running "sudo /etc/cron.daily/aide" results in
the following error:

dotlockfile: /var/run/aide: no such directory

This is a problem described in Bug 114730. After creating the missing
/var/run/aide directory, running the previously described command
results in what appears to be normal program execution, then
termination. But the following /var/log/aide/aide.log results tell a
different story:

aide run on started at 2007-10-14 17:09:57.
**
* AIDE returned with exit code 17. Invalid configuration! *
**
AIDE error output (3 lines):
34:syntax error:(
34:Error while reading configuration:(
Configuration error
End of AIDE error output
funny, AIDE did not leave a log.
The check was done against /var/lib/aide/aide.db with the following
characteristics:
  Mtime: 2007-10-14 16:38:37
  Ctime: 2007-10-14 16:38:37
  Inode: 8487540

The AIDE run created a new database /var/lib/aide/aide.db.new with the
following characteristics:
End of AIDE daily cron job at at 2007-10-14 17:09, run time 0 seconds

Running "sudo aide -D -c /var/lib/aide/aide.conf.autogenerated results
in a similar, but more sparse message:

34:syntax error:(
34:Error while reading configuration:(
Configuration error

Steps to reproduce

1. Install Gutsy RC amd64 on a Dell Inspiron 1420 (Intel Core 2 Duo
T7500/2.2GHz)
2. Install Aide

Aide version

0.13.1-7

Additional Information
=

This is not reproducible on Gutsy RC i386 installed on a Dell Inspiron
600m (Intel Pentium M 2.0GHz. The /var/run/aide directory is absent on
this machine also, but does not appear to cause any problems, as aide
runs and reports (email) correctly.

I am not sure if this is a security vulnerability, and will therefore
not mark it as one.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 151938] Re: gutsy kernel is causing data-loss.somehow related to SATA (media-error)

2007-10-14 Thread Josip Lazic
I too have this problem. My English is not very good i hope you will
understand

My old Seagate ST3250820AS (xfs) started to fail, so i ran xfs_repair
-L, i could not finish because of I/O errors, so I brought new disk
(Seagate-Maxtor STM3250310AS) and run:

dd_rescue -v /dev/sde1 /dev/sdd1

After that i managed to rescue all of my data. Than I formated old disk
into ext3, and copy all of my data to that disk (just so i have backup).
After just one day again same errors, but this time on brand new disk! I
thought that problem is in XFS, so i formated New disk into ext3, and
copy all data from old disk to new with cp -a. This did not end nicely,
because allot of I/O errors. OK, I said, i will clone Old disk to New
with dd, so i did that. But if i run fsck.ext3 on old disk it finishes
without errors, but on new disk there is allot of errors. Shouldn't
cloned disk need to be identical?

Motherboard is Abit NF7-S (RAID bus controller: Silicon Image, Inc. SiI 3112
[SATALink/SATARaid] Serial ATA Controller (rev 02))
DDR RAM (2x512MB) is OK (i run Memtest)

Before Gutsy i had Gentoo, and everything worked OK for a long time.

[Bug 116326] Works using method c for me

I have a toshiba A205-4777. I using method C from

everything works.

The internal and front mics work and the headphone sense kinda works.
The sound is muted from the speakers when I insert the headphones, but
if I adjust the volumn from the front knob the speakers get unmuted.

Apart from that everything is great and all is right with the world.
