[Bug 153326] requesting package for vmware-server-console

2007-10-16 Thread Craig
Public bug reported:

There already exists a package for vmware-server, but installing the

What is happening to this bug?

This is marked as a duplicate of bug #147431, but I cannot view that and get no
updates.
There is also no possibility of verifying if it really is a double.

You should not mark public bugs as duplicates of private bugs - but the
other way round is ok.

That way, we would all get to know the development of the bug and can provide
additional info about the bug/harware if needed and can help with testing.
Now, it is not possible.

Further, if i go through the trouble of testing gutsy and submit bug reports, i
expect to be informed about development.
Otherwise, who will care to submit reports any longer?

Please, correct the situation.

I'm using the latest gutsy, 32 bit intel.

 I had installed gnash already.

I'm using the medium level of desktop effects, with firefox on
 workspace 3.

I used firefox to go to a web site with a flash movie, and clicked where
 the movie would be shown.

The computer asked me if I'd like to install a plugin, and if I'd like
 gnash or adobe flash.

I chose gnash and pressed next. Then, both firefox and that dialog with
the next button appeared to freeze up. Nothing happened for a long
 while.

Eventually, I noticed on workspace 1, a modal dialog telling me the
changes have been applied, and asking me to close that window.

I close the window using the 'close' button, and back on workspace 3,
the plugin finder service window is working again.

I press finish on that window, and the firefox page re-renders, this
time with the flash content available.

The bug is that the modal dialog appeared on desktop 1, whereas firefox
was on workspace 3. So, I was waiting for the installation of the
plugin to finish, watching workspace 3. It didn't occur to me to go and
look on different workspaces to find the dialog to say yes, I confirm
that the process can be finished.

Actually, I don't really understand the value of that dialog -- all it
wanted me to do was click finished. The process would have been
smoother without that dialog at all. However, that would be another
usability enhancement bug rather than a more serious It looks like
firefox has crashed, even though it hasn't bug.

I think maybe this is what happened with bug 96929 (marked invalid).

The problem why it looks like firefox freezed is that as of ffox 2.0
you cannot wait for an external process to finish in a non-UI thread
from within javascript. This feature will be present and will use that
feature then.

[Bug 152813] Re: Update from Feisty to Gusty fails in multiple packages

2007-10-16 Thread TeutonJon78
Well, those are the only files in the /var/log directories. I can only
provide what Ubuntu does. :)

Regarding the dkpg.log files: dkpg.log.1 appears to be an old file for
sure.

dkpkg.log has two sections of time:
line 1: 16:53:39
line 312: 17:47:48

If I remember correctly, 16:53 would be about the time I was installing
all of the security patches for Feisty. 17:47 would be the time that
the Gusty upgrade started running after doing the initial downloading.
These are the only files that the install produced. Like I said
earlier, I was doing an unattended upgrade, so I'm not sure how the last
part of the upgrade went. When I cam back, the desktop was just sitting
there with no windows (so I know the x-server didn't crash because it
wasn't at the login screen).

[Bug 153322] Re: Confusion between virtual desktops and viewports

2007-10-16 Thread Anders Hall

Another odd behaviour of my two Desktops (except the fact that I cant find the
setting for adding four Desktops) is that i have the same icons on both
Desktops though different programs opened on them. My point is: i USE my
desktop for organising and displaying information (not just for handling
windows) and therefor i don't want the same icons appearing twice.

Would it not be better if there were a possibility to select if Desktops
should have the same icons (in my case mostly text files) on all
Desktops or if individual settings should apply for all or some
Desktops?

Having different windows opened helps me in being more productive...
different icons and content on the Desktops would achieve even greater
productivity in my case.

[Bug 152742] Re: Blackberry 7730, possibly others don't work in at least Edgy Eft, Gutsy Gibbon

2007-10-16 Thread John McCain
I can partially confirm this behavior. When I attempt to connect a
blackberry, the following occurs (dmesg snip)

[ 75.628000] usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
[ 75.788000] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 75.928000] usbcore: registered new interface driver berry_charge
[ 105.96] usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 2
[ 106.20] usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
[ 106.36] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

I appear to only get one iteration of the loop rapha describes

Then udevd starts using 85-100% processor utilization until it is killed
or until the machine is rebooted.

If I blacklist berry_charge, I get the following:

[ 767.984000] usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
[ 768.148000] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

But udev continues to use 85-100% processor utilization.

[Bug 153329] Resume from suspend leads to blank screen with i810 driver on Samsung X20 (Intel GM915 Chipset)

2007-10-16 Thread Christopher Hübner
Public bug reported:

Since I've updated to Gutsy (from Feisty) the Suspend to Ram mode is broken.
Suspending seems to work fine. But after resuming there is only a blank (black)
screen. No mousepointer, nothing.
But I can login over network, using ssh.
According to Xorg.log, there is a xserver problem. The log (plus syslog and
messages) is attached.
I tried to deactivate AIGLX (perhaps that was the cause of the problem) through
adding the following lines to xorg.conf:

Section Extensions
Option Composite Disable
EndSection

Section ServerFlags
Option AIGLX off
EndSection

... but nothing changed.

Suspend to ram and hibernate worked with Feisty. Now, none of both works
properly. Hibernate won't even shutdown.

Packages that might be involved:
xserver-xorg-video-intel- X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display
xserver-xorg-video-i810 - X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display

I don't know wich package provides the i810 driver that I use in my
xorg.conf.

Till: is this for a queue where you are providing a PPD file, or where
you a selecting a PPD from the list? If it's from the list cupsd
 decides on the paper size.

When a PPD file is provided, system-config-printer tries to adjust the
paper size in the same way cupsd would have if it had been in the list.

[Bug 146397] Re: ACER TravelMate 8204 WLMI: suspend/hibernate does not power off the laptop

2007-10-16 Thread Tony Mancill
Is it possible this is the same as bug 133363 [0], with a fix here [1]?
There is a is fix posted there, but I haven't been unable to test it yet
due to some other complications. First off, module-assistant thinks
that the name of the fglrx drivers source package is fglrx-kernel-src,
when it is actually fglrx-kernel-source. Secondly, after extracting
the sources by hand, the build fails.

[Bug 153336] oem-config crash

Binary package hint: oem-config

I just did an install of 20071016.1 gutsy d-i i386 in OEM mode (with

I made only one change in the oem boot: to use Synaptic to install
libadns1-bin.

I then ran the prepare for shipping program. On the reboot when I got
the prompts I asked for Dutch as a language, London timezone, UK
keyboard (which was sensibly the default), but after entering the new
user details (step 1 of 4) the preparer crashed - the X server died and
I was presented with a gdm.

This gdm session did allow me to log in as the created user.

I'm going to try this again with no language switching, with Erase Disk,

[Bug 151395] Re: [Gutsy] The Custom option in Visual Effects tab of Appearance Preferences don't persist

2007-10-16 Thread Mike Hix
I have also purged the appropriate packages (ccsm, compiz, etc...) via
dpkg -P and reinstalled them via apt-get. The same behavior persists
until I remove the configuration files in the home directory of the
particular user that is experiencing the problem.

After removing the broken configuration in this way, things work
properly again.

I'm trying to narrow down exactly what's broken, but I don't have much
spare time these days.

Maybe this is fixed to some extent in Gutsy as I was able to install the
driver fine, the problem came when the machine restarted with the
S-Video cable installed. This was the first time I restarted so it
looked like this box had a hardware issue for hours until I moved it

GaimConversations. Considering that as of Gutsy, Gaim has been
renamed Pidgin, that line be patched to say PidginConversations.

(Obviously a very low importance bug.)

** Affects: tracker (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
