[Bug 159905] Kword makes characters disappear in Japanese text

2007-11-04 Thread David Nemeskey
Public bug reported:

Kword does not display Japanese text correctly. In case of a paragraph
with two (or more) lines, sometimes the characters at the end of the
first, or the beginning of the next line are not shown. They are there,
however: if characters are deleted from the first line, the missing
characters appear. Also, if the cursor is placed at the beginning of the
second line, and backspace is pressed repeatedly, then the missing
characters are deleted first, before the cursor goes back to the end of
the first line.

After many attempts to reproduce the bug, I have found that the culprit
may be the "small" characters, like the sokuon (っ, "small tsu"), or ゃ
(small "ya"), ゅ (small "yu") and the ょ (small "yo") character. If they
fall to the end of a line, they just disappear, along with the next
character (at least for me). Changing anti-aliasing or hinting has no
effect on this behavior.

In the next comment I am attaching a document. It contains two
paragraphs that contain the same text, only the second has more あ ("a")
characters, so that the sokuon is not at the end of the line. Feel free
to experience with it. For example, if the characters in the first line
are deleted until the sokuon appears at the end of the line, than 'a'
(Latin alphabet) is inserted, the sokuon is pushed half into the margin;
next 'a' will make it disappear entirely. Half-width katakana
characters have the same effect.

Re: [Bug 151986] Re: Instalation of j2re doesn't complete

2007-11-04 Thread Steve Clarke
I have managed to solve it for me. Try this and let me know how you
fare.

Completely uninstall old version that was manually installed.
Open terminal
enter:

sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/gutsy.list -O
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

and enter password
Then enter

wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-
key add - && sudo apt-get update

When finished,
Open Synaptic Package Manager
Click Reload (or click edit, reload package information) and wait for
details to download
Search Package Manager for "Google"
Select "googleearth" and "googleearth-data"
Click "apply"

Google Earth should then install putting an icon in "Applications, Internet"
Enjoy!

Regards,
Steve.

i think theres a fix planned for december, but I just cant wait that long, I

with a Ralink shitty, crap ass driver in it. And I'm just not into redoing my

[Bug 159912] x86-64 Konqueror won't load a 32-bit flash netscape plugin.

2007-11-04 Thread Rob Landley
Public bug reported:

I visited dailyshow.com and it told me to to install the flash plugin.
Clicking "ok" didn't install anything, but instead opened a tab with
Adobe's website asking me if i wanted to download a tarball or an RPM.
After a bit of googling, I did "aptitude install flashplugin-nonfree"
which seemed to work fine, except Konqueror still had no plugin. Exited
and restarted Konqueror: no difference. Went in to the Konqueror
config, told it to scan for plugins, no difference.

Went back to the Adobe website, downloaded the tarball, their install
script said x86-64 isn't supported, copied the .so file into
/usr/local/mozilla/plugins, told Konqueror to scan for plugins again,
still nothing. Rooted around a bit and added /usr/lib/flashplugin-
nonfree to the directories Konqueror was to scan for plugins: still
nothing.

Tried to go into "file associations" to see if there was any way to
point Konqueror at a specific so file and say "wrap nspluginviewer
around this plugin to handle this mime type", but although I can select
nspluginviewer the edit button never lights up to configure it with a
specific .so to use.

I've run out of places to hit it with a rock. Help?

[Bug 159914] Mines is very slow in full screen mode

2007-11-04 Thread Michaël Van Dorpe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Gnome-games turns out to be a hit with people who use my computer.
However, they tell me that mines is not very responsive when played in
full screen mode. I tested this, and it does indeed make a big
difference.

Since playing games is about breaking records, which is about time,
having a game that is not very responsive is an important bug.

[Bug 159916] system crash upon FN-F4 press

2007-11-04 Thread eldad
Public bug reported:

having gutsy (ubuntu 7.10) installed on an HP Pavilion ze2070ea laptop:
pressing Fn-F4 key combination blocks the system completely.

This combination is supposed to switch to an external display.
Having no external display plugged, in Breezy it would blank the screen once
and get back to the default display,
I believe the same happened in Feisty but cannot really remember trying this.
Now on gutsy the screen blanks completely, only the cursor is left as it was -
no keyboard or touchpad responds.
If I kill gdm and X from a tty it does not happen.
I cannot "xev" the combination from a GDM login as the system blocks
immidiately...

HELP!

2007-11-04 Thread jurgis.pralgauskis
similar problems for me (only with gutsy)

"sudo ifup eth0" doesn't help, as it doesn't see the interface

but sometimes it vanishes, sometimes - not, I couldn't find the rule
(I tried to hibernate with unpulgged cabel, and then wake up with plugged and
vice versa - but sometimes it works, sometimes - no :?)
but if I unhibernate after a longer time (few hours) - it is always gone (as
much as I remember)

If I was logged in with other console (Ctrl+Alt+F1), and hibernated from
the main Gnome - the things always seemed to work OK (though I didn't
try to wait long)

I noticed, that wireless interface wanishes also if it is used - so probably
the one, which i
as I understood vanishes/disapears the one interface, which is/was currently
used - very strange

maybe something should be improved in this direction?

[Bug 153545] Re: Suspend to ram broken since 2.6.22-13

2007-11-04 Thread Peter Frühberger
Hi Brian,

I will upload a 2.6.23.1 kernel, if I come home later. Till now, i can
say: the ubuntu kernel without the two above mentioned patches crashes
less, but it did not work perfect - so I compiled a vanilla kernel
version, with latest thinkpad-acpi and this one never failed.

But! vanilla 2.6.23.1 kernel includes these 2 patches above, so I think
something other in ubuntu kernel is the cause for this problem, but
"more often triggered" if these patches are included.

Peter

PS: I think there is a newer bios revision 1.08 ...

Do you need wireless to work? this is the only modul not included in my
kernel and compiled afterwards, because not in mainline ...

[Bug 133677] Re: System unusable after resume from suspend or hibernate [i945]

2007-11-04 Thread Rohan Dhruva
Here is the S2RAM page -- http://en.opensuse.org/S2ram
The options which make suspend work for my pc are : (ignore -f, that is just
used to force to suspend if machine is not in whitelist)
-p, --vbe_post: VBE POST the graphics card after resume
-m, --vbe_mode: get VBE mode before suspend and set it after resume

I don't have compiz installed (neither beryl nor compiz-fusion nor metisse nor
any other 3d desktop ;) )
However, glxinfo says direct rendering is enabled. With the above two s2ram
options, I've tested in suse, suspend works with direct rendering enabled.
However when compiz is enabled, many problems are caused (in suse).

Can you please tell me how do I emulate the -p and -m options using
acpi-support ?

> You haven't attached your Xorg.0.log.old directly, only compressed.

[Bug 155490] Re: [gutsy] Screensavers don't start automatically in Kubuntu

2007-11-04 Thread Rob Watson
Same for me. I can make the screen saver run in 'Test' when
selecting/configuring screen savers (so I know the screen savers
themselves are installed OK and will run OK), but it won't start on its
own after the specified time. Only broken for Kubuntu (KDE) Gutsy, works
OK for Ubuntu (Gnome) Gutsy - each a fresh install, not an upgrade. Also
can't make screen saver start by specifying a screen corner and moving
the cursor there, so it's not just a timer issue.

Also, selecting 'Lock Session' from the K Menu doesn't start the screen
saver either (it's supposed to, isn't it?).

Plenty of (i.e., way too many) errors in .x-session-errors, but none of
them seem to be screen saver related (but they might be).

[Bug 132612] Re: memory leak in evince?

2007-11-04 Thread kripkenstein
I can also confirm this bug on Gutsy.

As with others here, on Feisty Evince was reasonable, but on Gutsy
things are out of control. I simply cannot use Evince (I am using xpdf
for now). One example is a 2.6MB PDF (I can post it here if it can
help), that when opened in Evince causes 300+ MB of resident memory to
be used (and I can actually see the memory taken up and swap space being
utilized - this isn't a misreading of memory usage due to
caching/buffers). After initial load, memory usage goes down to 200 MB,
but jumps back up to 300MB+ (and 100% CPU) as I scroll.

On my 512 MB system, this behavior basically sends everything else into
swap, and the system is nearly unusable. Note that even the 200MB that
it 'stabilizes' on when not scrolling is bad enough.

[Bug 159923] gcc-4.2 : regression for -std=gnu99

2007-11-04 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
Public bug reported:

I am compiling code with "gcc -std=gnu99". According to the gcc man page, gnu99
means the C99 standard with GNU (ie POSIX) extensions.

results in the warning:

[Bug 159927] The compose key stopped working in X11 in kubuntu hardy

2007-11-04 Thread Luciano Montanaro
Public bug reported:

In Kubuntu Hardy, since yesterday my keymap has stopped working as
usual.

I have set up KDE so that the right alt and caps keys act as a compose key,
with the kcontrol module.
This should be equivalent to giving this command:

setxkbmap -option compose:caps,compose:ralt

However, it looks like the compose keys are completely ignored at the
moment. This makes it impossible to input accented characters.

[Bug 159566] Re: rt61 edimax pci wifi card intermittent connection problems

2007-11-04 Thread Jonah
ok i blacklisted the 3 modules built in kernel and installed the rt61
legacy driver from serialmonkey and now internet is reliable as should
be, also wireless signal strength is better too.

roaming mode no longer works though so had to do manual network
configuration.

here's what i did with help on forums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=600554

it would be great if someone could fix this in ubuntu as i've been
through hell and back and it would be a shame if others have to also.

[Bug 87960] Re: installing compiz will make using metacity impossible (even after uninstalling)

2007-11-04 Thread Ludovico Fischer
I am using Ubuntu 7.10 final and gnome-wm file is not patched as
decribed here in the preceding post. Compiz is still the fall-back
window manager. I had to manually change it to metacity in gnome-wm and
gconf. I did a command line install, and when I started gnome, I had a
window-manager I could not recognize (only one window at the time could
be displayed).

[Bug 133677] Re: System unusable after resume from suspend or hibernate [i945]

2007-11-04 Thread unggnu
I am no expert but I would try it with uncommenting out
SAVE_VIDEO_PCI_STATE=true. Another solution could be to check for a bios
upgrade for your laptop. Otherwise you just have to wait for an
driver/kernel upgrade, I don't know.
