[Bug 161132] Re: new install, kernel panic, not syncing
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in linux-source-2.6.15. Now that the 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon release of Ubuntu is out, we were wondering if you can still reproduce this issue with the current release? You can simply test this by using the LiveCD of the 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon release. You can download and try the new version of Ubuntu from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download . As additional info, here is the git commit: commit 7f015072348a14f16d548be557ee58c5c55df0aa Author: Jeremy Fitzhardinge [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Wed Oct 17 13:55:03 2007 +1000 [XFS] eagerly remove vmap mappings to avoid upsetting Xen XFS leaves stray mappings around when it vmaps memory to make it virtually contigious. This upsets Xen if one of those pages is being recycled into a pagetable, since it finds an extra writable mapping of the page. This patch solves the problem in a brute force way, by making XFS always eagerly unmap its mappings. I am using Sun Java 6 and being prompted to install Icedtea 7. Those using java-package to turn the Sun binaries into real packages as opposed to using sun-java6-jre (et al.) dummy packages, which IIRC contain a post-install script to download and install the Sun binaries, will find themselves (barring a major modification to java-package's complex maze of scripts) with packages called sun-j2re1.6 or sun-j2sdk1.6. The latter provides the following virtuals: * java-virtual-machine * java-runtime * java2-runtime * java-browser-plugin * java-compiler * java2-compiler * j2sdk1.6 * j2re1.6 I presume the former to be the same, sans the -compiler and j2sdk1.6 virtuals. [Bug 88899] Re: cpufreq locked in slowest speed
Rob: I finally got a chance to do some hunting on the internet for a solution to this problem. The problem appears to be rooted in unsettable BIOS thermal tables. Downgrading to BIOS A02 appears to solve the problem, but as I run dual-screen I don't think I'll be doing this (the A02 has earlier Intel915 graphics firmware). I might try a kernel downgrade to see if the problem can be resolved with my previous kernel (I don't recall this same issue, but perhaps I just didn't notice). [Bug 174180] window decorator shadows
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz-gnome While I know some may believe that this is not a bug, but rather a configuration correction to a desktop effect, I do not. It is a change to an expected behavior that was working correctly, and now does not display correctly. Window shadows were working correctly up until 2 weeks ago, and then suddenly computer after computer started showing this problem. Shadows are not showing on all sides of a window. They are only showing on the right and bottom of a window. This behavior includes the shadows at the top menu bar as well as the bottom menu bar of the desktop. The problem is that the result of the unknown change is that part of the desktop looks like it has depth( a shadow) and part does not. So the top of my desktop has the shadow, but the bottom does not, and it looks like the upper half of my desktop has desktop effects turned on, and the bottom half of my desktop does not have desktop effects turned on. It has made 3D desktops look ridicules and I am forced to turn shadows off to have a consistent look for the desktop. another example is that when any window is opened in the middle of the screen, it has shadows only on 2 sides of the window. So 2 sides of the window look like they have depth, and the other 2 sides DO NOT have depth - it looks like shadows are both turned ON, and OFF for the same window. Technically a single source light source may be correct to give shadow effects, but in practice the initial Gutsy effect was much more functional. I consider this a bug because I can not find any way to restore the original functionality for shadows on ALL 4 sides of windows including a completely new install of Gutsy. And one last thought, I don't want a developer to say I can only have shadows on 2 sides of windows for my choice of window decorations, at least add add an option in the window decoration plugin that restores this behavior for those of us that want full decoration effects on the entire desktop, not just on 2 sides of windows. ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- window decorator shadows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/174180 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 173260] Re: logprof doesn't handle marks (in any usefull way)
Hi. This is the intended behavior of logprof/genprof (perhaps as you suggest there could be better intended behavior :) The way its used is that genprof marks the log with a random string to denote the log section it should be looking at when you Scan For Events while generating a new profile. So the tools know to ignore everything before the mark. Its possible that logprof could be modified so that it records the last entry processed (the date or some unique id from the log entry - or even marks the log again and saves the mark). Then on subsequent runs it could start where it left of - so not asking the same questions that you have chosen Deny for. -dom It uses the logger command (defined in /etc/apparmor/logprof.conf) to mark the logs. -- logprof doesn't handle marks (in any usefull way) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173260 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am glad that removing the debian line helped. My feeling is that the problem you are currently having is a result of having mixed Debian and Ubuntu packages. [Bug 172432] Re: Wish: Removable Mediums, Permissions and Multiple Users
by mediums I mean, USB Disk, Video/Camera or SD, Memory Stick, etc. Plugging these mediums into a system and trying to control who can read, write, exec them is by no way trivial. It's virtually impossible. by unforeseen, there is no way to lock down these external mediums *before* they're attached and mounted. unlike harddisk, unforeseen mediums are just far too dynamic for users to have any kind of trivial control over them. this is where harddisk and external medium differ like night and day.
