[Bug 157650] Re: ATA port freezes randomly
[quote]My guess is the ata errors will slowly come back after a few weeks[/quote] Wrong assumption: the day of the reinstall I have used the system for over 8 hours, without a problem. Used VMware server to install three more servers in the virtual network, made backup copied of the virtual systems (total more than 22GB of data). All without a problem. This morning I had to boot three times before I got to a login screen. [Bug 137784] Re: [Gutsy] texlive-base-bin post-installation error
I can confirm this bug as well, seems to have happened after an update. Something to do with conf-file mixups between packages...purging and reinstalling fixed the problem for me. sudo aptitude purge texlive-base texlive The above command also uninstalled docbook-utils and auctex (my emacs tex editor). It may uninstall other things, such as add-on tex packages so you may want to pay close attention to the uninstall process. Here's the command I used for the reinstall: sudo aptitude install texlive docbook-utils auctex. Add whatever extras you need. After a long time this will get you updated to a working system again. Shame this was such a problem. Chatter upstream on the debian bug mailing lists seems to indicate a problem with configuration scripts fighting over files and genuinely making a mess of things. -- [Gutsy] texlive-base-bin post-installation error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137784 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 175243] screen flickers only if text tty entered (radeon)
Public bug reported: I "upgraded" to Gutsy by doing a clean install a couple of days ago and now have noticed a strange screen flickering bug. I have a radeon mobility 9000 on a Dell Inspiron 600m, and did not have this problem previously with Feisty Fawn. The bug is screen flickering in text consoles _and_ X. Interestingly, though, this bug does not occur if I boot into splash and then it goes straight to X. I am able to log on and use desktop effects and such without any flicker. However, the moment it has to switch to a text tty/vt, whether through a Ctrl-Alt-Fn or after I log out when X restarts, it starts flickering and the flicker makes everything pretty much unusable (well quite annoying at least). I tried booting with vga=normal but that doesn't change anything. No splash on boot doesn't help. I believe this has something to do with the new text tty changes in Gutsy vs Feisty, but am not sure exactly what these are, so if someone has some advice maybe on something I can do to try to mess with these that would be great (I'm pretty sure it's not an X issue per se b/c it does not seem to happen the first time X starts and I log on after splash; oh yeah also it does _not_ happen when BIOS is starting and in the initial splash; however after we go to tty I can't get the flicker to stop). [Bug 159733] Re: Dell Dimension 2400 - Gutsy fails to reboot
The Hardy Heron kernel was recently uploaded for testing. We'd really appreciate it if you could try testing with this newer kernel and verify if this issue still exists. Unfortunately, the Hardy Heron Alpha1 LiveCD was released with the older 2.6.22 kernel. You'll have to manually install the newer Hardy Heron kernel in order to test. This should not be the case for Alpha2. However, here are the instructions to install (if you choose to do so): 1) edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list and add the following line: deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main restricted 2) sudo apt-get update 3) sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic 4) reboot and select the new kernel from the grub menu After you've tested, please feel free to revert back - ie boot into the old kernel, sudo apt-get remove linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic, and remove the line from /etc/apt/sources.list . [Bug 143998] Re: rename 'bazaar' package to 'baz'
The only reasons I know of are: 1- There may be some hardcore users, who wish to keep using baz even though it is orphaned by upstream. (Robert pointed (indirectly) to http ://lists-archives.org/debian-devel/124715-bug-433143-itp-bzr-rebase- rebase-plugin-for-bazaar.html) 2- baz is needed to upgrade old archives to bzr using bzrtools, and very likely to upgrade them using other tools like tailor. So even if no one is still using baz, there may be people who will someday need it to retrieve historical data. I'm happy to leave it up to the people doing the work whether these are a strong enough reason to keep baz around in a package named "baz". It has seemed to me like Debian has tended to package everything that might be useful to somewhere that's technically and legally possible. -- rename 'bazaar' package to 'baz' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/143998 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 153152] Re: [Gutsy SRU request] Fax utility not adding files to job.
Don't know if this will help with 2.7.7, but I ran the following to configure 2.7.10 that fixes the problem with the faxing. Scanning and printing work as well. This has been tested via a networked HP Photosmart c6180 All-In-One. I have created a debian package of my 2.7.10 install with checkinstall. It conflicts with hpijs, but I am afraid to remove the hpijs package since removing it also removes ubuntu-desktop (??) Anyways, I installed with make install, and then built the checkinstall package on my system, so if you would like to use the 2.7.10 debian package, you will probably need to force the install to overwrite the common files with the hpijs package. Here's the link: http://sarnov.dnsdojo.com/utilities/hplip_2.7.10-1_i386.deb Good luck!! BTW: I take no responsibility if this package borks your system.. [Bug 162252] Re: ctrl-alt-f7 doesn't always return to valid X session
My IBM G40 acts the same way - except I do not know any sequence of events to guarentee the event / it appears to be random. The work around is to reboot. I believe 7.04 worked OK, and only 7.10 presents the bug -- but I can't be certain. I am slightly troubled by new (to me) behavior in switching between VCs. I now find both ALT+CTRL+Fx and (new?) ALT+Fx work to switch between ascii consoles. Upon reaching F7 console the display remains black with cursor and is responsive to the keyboard. There is no line prompt, and certainly the entered text is not responded to -- even special sequences except the CTRL+ALT+Fx does switch back to an ascii console. I'm running Ubuntu on an AMD64 machine and this bug just crawled out of hiding for me today. [Bug 104929] Re: Marvell 88E8056 crashes Ubuntu Feisty system
Actually, I did a bit of investigating today. I messed up a kernel upgrade and subsequently tried to install Hardy Alpha 1 and it wouldn't boot properly after install. So I gave up on Hardy, reinstalled Gutsy, and got some help from an awesome guy in the ubuntu irc channel to upgrade my kernel to 2.6.23.9. To make a long story short, I successfully compiled and installed 2.6.23.9 and so far so good. I have been transferring large files via nautilus over my network without a problem. I will post back here if anything changes, but I think the issue has been solved with the 2.6.23 kernel. [Bug 175227] Re: 2.6.22-14-rt halts during boot on some computers, without the nosmp noapic nolapic kernel options
** Description changed: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-14-rt Fresh installation of Ubuntustudio 7.10 on an ACER Aspire 5102 . The system boots, the Ubuntustudio splash appears. [Bug 175225] Gutsy broken after upgrade
Public bug reported: I installed all the latest updates as of December 9, 2007 (I have all the repositories enabled in Software Sources, but haven't added any new ones). After restart, the GTK2+ theme was reset to an ugly-looking one. After some time, I get the error (maybe while trying to open 'Appearance' dialog) that gnome-settings-daemon could not be started, maybe because some other (KDE) settings daemon might be running. However, I do not have KDE (or kdelibs) installed on my pc. I formatted the partition and did a fresh install of Ubuntu. I did a complete update again and the problem happened again. I am guessing that maybe some update is breaking my Ubuntu installation, though I am not sure where exactly. Steps to reproduce: 1) Fresh install of Ubuntu 2) Set custom theme. 3) [Install NVidia restricted drivers] 4) Do a complete system update 5) Restart Faulty behavior (as far as I have observed): 1) GTK2+ themes failing to load/persist 2) Audio is not playing 3) System crashes while shutdown. I am guessing that maybe some update is breaking my Ubuntu installation, though I am not sure where exactly. Steps to reproduce: 1) Fresh install of Ubuntu 2) Set custom theme. 3) [Install NVidia restricted drivers] - 4) Complete system update + 4) Do a complete system update 5) Restart Faulty behavior (as far as I have observed): 1) GTK2+ themes failing to load/persist 2) Audio is not playing 3) System crashes while shutdown. Have to power off manually. [Bug 175226] Starting nfs-common and nfs-kernel-daemon hangs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nfs-kernel-server The nfs-kernel-daemon hangs during startup for several minutes and then does not work although a process is listed. The same goes for starting nfs-common. They both hang dring installtion too. Several re-installs have not changed the situation. This is on Edubuntu and without nfs, the ltsp server will not work. ** Affects: nfs-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Starting nfs-common and nfs-kernel-daemon hangs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175226 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 85780] Re: gThumb red eye reduction does not work
That comment was perhaps a bit confusing. Really after using this tool I find that the algorithm simply needs to be adjusted. I have found that it will only work unless the eyes are perfectly red. If there is pink, orange, or anything other than red, it just leaves it alone and changes the red pixels and ignores everything else. More often than not the tool will only change a fraction of the eye and leave the rest orange, pink or white. My suggestion in the previous comment is just that if you can define the area of the eye, it might make it easier for the algorithm to handle. This way it knows that the eye has a pupil, since orange or pink is not a natural eye colour it can change it to grey/black as a pupil should be. -- gThumb red eye reduction does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/85780 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 174576] Re: Firefox freezes on Jet Blue & Airtran
It seems this report is missing a few things. Please include the links you've described above link. We would truly appreciate if you can also take the time to isolate what on the page is triggering the bug, and include it as an HTML snippet in the bug report if possible. Also, does this problem occur when you run or don't run compiz? ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Nanley Chery (nanoman) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- Firefox freezes on Jet Blue & Airtran https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/174576 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 151849] Re: Sound Broke in Ubuntu Gutsy firefox
The sound is definitely working for other programs (sorry, should have stated that for sure). I went through and installed the newest version of Flash as per the instructions in the thread you linked to above, Cyrus. There is no .asoundrc file in my home directory (or in anyone else's). There are no messages (error or otherwise) when I start Firefox from the command line. I'm using Ubuntu release 7.10; 2.6.22-14-generic kernel. (Also, may be helpful to note that it's not just a problem with Youtube. I also get no sound from Pandora Radio, which is also flash based.) [Bug 106439] Re: Disk utilities report incorrect used and free space
While I understand why you may think this is a dosfstools bug, it's really not. This is really IMHO a policy bug that applies across the board. Also, the bug talks about gparted, not dosfstools. Finally, dosfstools does not actually show sizes anywhere that I'm aware of. -- Disk utilities report incorrect used and free space https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106439 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 85780] Re: gThumb red eye reduction does not work
I would like to report this also. Often in pics the eyes are orange/red. The tool only works well with eyes that are clearly red. The tool needs to be configurable or needs to be made so it can remove orange/red/ or whatever to normal. If the tool was used like a drag/selection box so you select the are of the eye this would perhaps make the selection easier. That way the program would have a defined area of space to change the colors. -- gThumb red eye reduction does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/85780 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
