Re: [Bug 125141] Re: there is no sound. SB live 5.1 it was working at my ubuntu but now it is not working
I found a switch labeled digital output or something similar. I checked it and then I had sound! I'm assuming that an update set my default sound output to digital instead of analogue. [Bug 90004] Re: issuing ldconfig causes Bus error and core dump, inhibits execution of postinst script for libgcc1
I found a solution in a pretty weird manner. I was going to back up my personal data onto a new HD and install Gusty from live CD as opposed to upgrading. As I rebooted, I was forced to do a manual fsck because it detected a bad file system. After looking at the partition, it was clear that my original HD had something wrong with it. After clearing out a bad inode, I discovered that somehow libdv in /usr/lib was corrupted. This is what was causing ldconfig to core dump; for me anyway. If you are still having this problem, try booting into single user mode and running a manual fsck. I chose just to clear whatever node was detected as a problem (clearing it will be the default option in fsck). Please back up any data onto a separate media that you are afraid of losing before doing this though. -- issuing ldconfig causes Bus error and core dump, inhibits execution of postinst script for libgcc1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/90004 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 179597] Please package FMOD
Public bug reported: FMOD is a commercial audio library made by Firelight Technologies that play music files of diverse formats on many different platforms. It is often used in games and software applications to provide audio functionality. FMOD supports a range of audio formats and numerous different operating system platforms. FMOD comes in two flavors, FMOD and FMOD Ex. Ex is the designation given to the 4.x series of the library. FMOD alone refers to version 3.75 of the library, which lacks much of format/platform support present in FMOD Ex. FMOD is available under multiple license schemes. It is available free of charge for non-commercial applications. FMOD may be used commercially under a number of different license types, such as Commercial License for standard commercial development, Shareware/Hobbyist License for single hobbyist programmers, and eDistributed Console Games for budget console game. Each license contains different restrictions, conditions and costs. Applicable License: FMOD Non-Commercial License If your product is not intended for commercial gain and does not include the FMOD library for resale, license or other commercial distribution, then use of FMOD is free. [Bug 120834] Re: intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications
Bug 177518 on the i945 now appears to be a separate problem: it freezes keeping the screen contents, logs nothing and locks so hard it won't respond even to Alt+SysRq, this blanks the screen, logs Error in I830WaitLpRing() and will reboot with Alt+SysRq+b. 945 users who reported having this bug: do you really have this one, or is yours 177518? I'd rather not do a fresh install on my hard disk (definitely not of Hardy before it's released) as I use this laptop daily, but I'd be willing to try and put together a bootable USB stick that reproducibly crashes it if the liveCD won't (the skyrocket screensaver mentioned above doesn't crash my machine, and could even be a separate bug as it logs a backtrace not Error in I830WaitLpRing()). -Does it matter if I use Gutsy or Hardy? Does anyone even have a reproducible way to get this bug in Hardy? -If it turns out to be more complicated than install Ubuntu, install Blender, play around a bit, can I post the (presumably rather large) USB disk image here, and if not how do I get it to the developers? -- intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120834 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 129709] Re: gutsy: kernel.log syslog filling up with repeated ata messages
I've tried the Hardy Alpha 2 Live CD for 24 hours w/ put a problem. However I'm not sure that this in meaningful. After some additional digging and experimentation it seems that the the error message documented above correlates to the hald-addon-storage polling ( i.e killing the hald-addon-stroage process stops the messages). It seems Ubuntu 32 bit has not the same freeze crash lockup problem. I wish that were true. I tried switching to the 32-bit Gutsy on my AMD64 and Firefox still froze pretty regularly. [Bug 120834] Re: intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications
The bug still exists in Hardy. You can reproduce it the same way in Hardy that you can in Gutsy. The only difference(for me at least), is that instead of corrupting the screen with the mouse cursor frozen in place, the screen goes blank. For me scorched 3d will cause it to crash pretty quickly in Hardy, running Kenta Cho's mu-cade will cause it to crash in several seconds. To get it to crash with Blender I've noticed that there might be some correlation with the complexity of the scene, higher complexity scenes seem to cause it to crash quicker. -- intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120834 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 179612] qt uses non-reentrant libmysqlclient, causing mythtv instability
Public bug reported: I have an Ubuntu machine running MythTV, and a few weeks ago it became extremely unstable. Some tracking revealed that there were lots of segmentation faults in several programs related to myth: the frontend, the backend, and mythfilldatabase. The problem appears to be that described here: http://mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-dev/2007-June/055983.html Out of the box, Ubuntu gives me the problematic configuration described above. Running ldd on /usr/lib/qt3/plugins/sqldrivers/libqsqlmysql.so, I see: libmysqlclient.so.15 = /usr/lib/libmysqlclient.so.15 Today, I replaced libmysqlclient.so.15 and libmysqlclient.so.15.0.0 by symbolic links to libmysqlclient_r.so.15 and libmysqlclient_r.so.15.0.0, and now my system has become much more stable. One way or another, mythtv needs to use the reentrant version or it will be unstable. Should perhaps the QT packages simply compile against the reentrant version to begin with? That would seem like the simplest solution to me. Barring that, perhaps there should be an alternate QT install that uses the reentrant packages. ** Affects: qt-x11-free (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- qt uses non-reentrant libmysqlclient, causing mythtv instability https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/179612 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 129910] Re: Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx)
The following isn't a cut-and-paste how to solution. Rather, in an effort to get resolution (the pun was too good to pass up) on this bug, my comments are intended as a starting place for how to get the framebuffer working. If this were a real how to, I'd make it more friendly for newbies, but if you even know what the console and the framebuffer are, you are not a newbie. My hope is that the following will be of assistance to the community in making headway. I'm NOT confident that the following is entirely or even mostly accurate. Following the instructions below is at your own risk and may cause some or all of your descendants to be born naked. You have been warned. If anyone has anything to add or correct, please post a message. WHERE TO GET INFO. Install the package linux-doc, which depends on the latest kernel documentation. Once installed, you can navigate to /usr/share/docs/linux-docs-2.6.[latest greatest]/Documentation/fb and find a number of surprisingly detailed documents about the framebuffer. The best starting place is framebuffer.txt.gz, which can be viewed in a terminal using less without having to decompress the file first (which is kinda slick, don't you think?). I also recommend that you read fbcon.txt.gz, vesafb.txt.gz, modedb.txt.gz, and the document for the native driver for your video card, if it exists. The Framebuffer HOWTO by Alex Buell is already 8 years old, so it doesn't have the latest, greatest information, but it is a helpful read. GOTCHAS 1. Misconfiguration. My sense is that misconfiguration accounts for 75% of the problems people are having with the framebuffer. For the framebuffer to work on the console, one must load TWO modules: (1) the video card framebuffer driver; and (2) fbcon, the framebuffer's console driver. 2. Splash screen. The splash screen itself causes problems if the monitor does not have a 4x3 aspect ratio. That is to say, if you have a wide screen monitor, the splash screen won't work correctly because it's a graphic. My workaround solution is simply to delete splash from the boot loader line in /boot/grub/menu.lst. A better solution would probably be to create a splash graphic that has the right resolution and aspect ratio. Someday, I'll learn how to do that, but I'm not up to it today. LOAD THE FRAMEBUFFER KERNEL MODULES You should probably do a little testing to see which driver works best for you. For most cards, one of the drivers listed in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffers will be appropriate. The vesafb driver is a generic framebuffer driver that works very well with many video cards. Sometimes it works better than the card-specific driver. In either event, you'll have to edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffers to get your favorite driver working. Comment out the fbcon line and the line referring to the driver you want to use (i.e., add a # to the beginning of the line). To have the modules load at boot time, add to the beginning of /etc/modules: fbcon (without quotes) and EITHER vesafb (ditto) OR the name of the native fb driver for your card. FIGURE OUT THE RIGHT VIDEO MODE From modedb.txt.gz: To specify a video mode at bootup, use the following boot options: video=driver:xresxyres[-bpp[EMAIL PROTECTED] where driver is a name from the table below. Valid default modes can be found in linux/drivers/video/modedb.c. Check your driver's documentation. There may be more modes. EDIT BOOTLOADER You'll need to tell the kernel which video mode you want at boot time. There are several ways to do it, depending on which driver you are using. Using vga=scan will likely give you sub-optimal results. Read the documentation referred to above. While you are testing the modules, it's probably best to edit the bootloader at boot time. Once you've figured out what works for you the best, edit /boot/grub/menu.lst. All comments, corrections, etc. welcome. -- Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129910 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: Binary package hint: xcdroast I'm using Kubuntu Gutsy (7.10) Version: xcdroast 0.98+0alpha15-11.1 I went to install xcdroast today (sudo apt-get install xcdroast). It wanted to install 'cdda2wav' and 'xcdroast', so I agreed and xcdroast was installed. Running it from Konsole showed the following: ** (xcdroast:10381): WARNING **: No /usr/bin/icedax installed ** (xcdroast:10381): WARNING **: (Invalid lib-directory? Check -l option) - Searching on the web didn't reveal much so I figured I would install - 'icedax' on my own. A simple `sudo apt-get install icedax`, which - installed 'icedax 9:1.1.6-1ubuntu3', seems to have solved the problem. + xcdroast failed to start. + Searching on the web didn't reveal much so I figured I would install 'icedax' on my own. A simple `sudo apt-get install icedax`, which installed 'icedax 9:1.1.6-1ubuntu3', seems to have solved the problem. The reason I'm filing this bug is because I'm wondering if icedax should be a dependency of xcdroast. I can't get xcdroast to run without icedax so I would imagine it's required. -- xcdroast requires icedax but not installed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/179614 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
