[Bug 180022] no network after transferring files with ssh
Public bug reported: Often, when trying to transfer large files from my laptop (Gutsy) to my desktop (Dapper) using ssh over the wired network at my work, when a transfer size of c. 8 MB has been reached, the transfer stops and the connection with the outer world (Internet, ping, ssh, desktop) is gone. The laptop does not respond to pinging from the desktop. I know of no way to get the connection going again, other than the Windows-solution; a re-start. I looked around some more and found http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7467 It looks a lot like my problem. So I unloded snd-atiixp and reloaded it with ac97_codec=0. And it works! [Bug 178888] Re: Please sync nmap 4.50-4 (main) from Debian unstable (main)
Hi Melissa, I realise that point. My purpose was sort of a friendly reminder that this is a bug report, and not a place for discussing whether or not the word "dude" is politically correct or not, and nothing more. I do think it's an amusing thing to read in a changelog entry though, and probably for the better: nmap has had a reputation of being somewhat childish (calling people "dude", saying things are "fucked up", etc) in it's error messages. As for nmap 4.52, it's not yet in Debian I don't think, so we'd be looking at nmap 4.52-0ubuntu1, and I'm not sure how lamont feels about that, so we should probably just leave that to him. -- Please sync nmap 4.50-4 (main) from Debian unstable (main) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/17 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 83623] Re: NetworkManager hangs with 100% cpu
After nearly two months with the fixed version, I think I identified a case were NetworkManager still use 100% CPU and needs to be killed. Here is the step to reproduce : - hit the Fn+F4 key (= suspend-to-ram shortcut on my thinkpad X40) - while the computer is suspending (blinking 'moon' led), close the lid (= closing the lid is configured to initiate a suspend-to-ram) => upon resume, NetworkManager will hang with 100% cpu. Once hanged, NetworkManager needs to be killed with 'kill -9' and could be restarted (sudo /etc/dbus-1/event.d/25NetworkManager restart), but it will hang again at each subsequent resume from suspend-to-ram. [Bug 173890] Re: flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version?
I'd term this a workaround, as it gets the current package installed while we wait for a fix. My preferred solution is to install the current package (which installs r48), instead of these ad-hoc work arounds (that install r115) which may have problems when the package is fixed. (For instance, r48 is reported to work better than r115, and we know r115 doesn't work at all in Konqueror, so installing r48 is the only thing that will work for Konqueror users. I think we should vet 115 very carefully before committing to it.) The problem is, the current package downloads r115, which is not what we want, because it is expecting r48. Luckily, the current package has a provision for you to download the r48 version yourself and tell the installer where it is. Adobe has a zip file of all Flash 9 players they've released that you can get the r48 version from (they keep it available for developers to test their flash projects against). You won't be able to enter the location of the r48 version by default, because Ubuntu's debconf is set to only show questions of priority 'high' or above, and the question about the location of r48 is priority medium. You have to reconfigure debconf to show questions of priority 'medium' first (afterwards you can reset it to 'high'). This is explained below. The steps I followed were: I got the Flash 9 archive from here: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp9_archive.zip which I found on this page: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266 Unzip the .zip file (use unzip from the command line or file-roller) Copy the r48 version to /tmp and change it's name to what the installer is expecting at the same time: cp fp9_archive/9r48/install_flash_player_9r48_linux.tar.gz /tmp/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz reconfigure debconf to show medium priority questions: sudo dpkg-reconfigure debconf It will ask 2 questions. The answer to the first should be 'Dialog' (Ubuntu's default). The answer to the second question about priority of questions to show should be 'medium'. (Low also works) Install flashplugin-nonfree: You can use apt-get, synaptic or aptitude. apt-get (command line) sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree synaptic - search for flashplugin-nonfree and install it. aptitude - you probably know how to select a package for installed if you use aptitude. For any of the methods, debconf should ask you what the location of the downloaded file is. Enter /tmp (Do not enter the filename of the file, just the directory location) and it should install correctly. If you want, reconfigure debconf to only show you 'high' priority questions again: sudo dpkg-reconfigure debconf I believe downloading the .zip from adobe in the installer is one of the solutions being looked at to fix this bug, but the downside is that the 65M size is quite large for dial-up customers. Not sure what the maintainers solution will be, but this will at least get the current one installed if you can afford the 65M download. -- flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173890 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For the OP issue I had the same thing and you just need to change the shortcut text as already indicated. For the other posts by people like me who want a different default file view than the next-to-useless-imho icon view (detailed list view rules!), this link explains how to do it: http://strabes.wordpress.com/2007/04/05/make-konqueror-use-your-default-view-mode-in-new-tabs/ Not intuitive at all, but it does the trick. It certainly should be a lot easier. Now if only the proportional window sizes on the navigation panel would be remembered between instances when using "Multiple views"! I use that to enable multiple network shares in the same view a la Windows Explorer since I find it annoying to see multiple drives mixed in with "normal" directories as mount points. [Bug 59392] Re: update-desktop-database segfault
Bill, it is possible that what I suggested you to do don't work. At least Debian poster seems to say it does not work that way for him to find corrupted .desktop files. I am speaking to developers here. I WAS WRONG. I have deliberately broken my /usr/share/applications/screensavers/flipscreen3d.desktop file by removing the [desktop] line. Then: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo update-desktop-database Could not parse file '/usr/share/applications/screensavers/flipscreen3d.desktop': Key file does not start with a group File '/usr/share/applications/totem.desktop' contains invalid MIME type '-e' that is missing a slash [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ So Hardy SEEMS (I am slowly becoming more prudent) to not be affected. I tried to compare Gutsy and Hardy and they seems the same to me. After: mime_types = g_key_file_get_string_list (keyfile, g_key_file_get_start_group (keyfile), "MimeType", NULL, &load_error); Code does: g_key_file_free (keyfile); if (load_error != NULL) { g_propagate_error (error, load_error); return; } I have a new ... *hypothesis* I now believe that this code is right. But that there was an assert in the Glib for the g_key_file_get_start_group in Gutsy that have been removed in Hardy. So that now g_propagate_error do work (and was not going up to there in Gutsy because of the hypothetical assert). -- update-desktop-database segfault https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/59392 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 70739] Re: CPU fans won't start for Thinkpad 770E and 390E
Hi all, I have stumbled across the fix to the negative temp problems. See: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=623633 I tried the hardy alpha2 livecd, and the CPU fan does run, but quite slowly. It is the same as running with the current gutsy kernel. I will try to load up the system enough to change the fan status and report back. (I put in an extra fan at the back of the box, which keeps the whole thing cool enough now that it is hard to get the CPU too hot.) cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/* state: ok temperature: 33 C critical (S5): 95 C passive: 50 C: tc1=2 tc2=3 tsp=100 devices=CPU0 active[0]: 58 C: devices=FAN1 -- CPU fans won't start for Thinkpad 770E and 390E https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/70739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 151572] Re: HP photosmart R717 camera not mounted when plugged
I think I have the same problem. I have an HP Photosmart R818 and when I connect it in USB Mass Storage mode nothing happens but a ton of errors in /var/log/messages. See attachment. After unplugging it I get an error on the camera that the memory card cannot be read. After I turn the camera off and on it's fine though. However when I connect the camera in PTP mode it works fine. I think this is a regression from Feisty as I believe it worked fine in Feisty under USB Mass Storage Mode. ** Attachment added: "messages.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/11128294/messages.txt -- HP photosmart R717 camera not mounted when plugged https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/151572 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 180007] There is no easy way to change icons for file types
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus There is no easy way to change icons for file types. If I change in the properties dialog of a file, the icon only for that particular file. There should be an easy way to change the icons for all files of same type. This is especially important for files which do not have a proper icon by default. I was hoping that the update-desktop-database.out file would be created even if I was expecting it to segfault. Today, just before the X session crashed again, I got the following message (don't know if this is at all related to this discussion here, but I will type it in anyway): Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when attempting to locate the factory.Killing bonobo-activation-server and restarting Nautilus may help fix the problem. Re: [Bug 179121] Re: bug in lirc 0.8.2 breaks transmitters - need 0.8.3pre1 packages
Not sure about the patch. I don't think it pertains to the actual serial module but rather irsend and lircd. To prove this I recompiled the serial module (did not install) and replaced the old .ko with the new .ko After loading the appropraite modules, the driver still refused to load. Once my compiled lirc (0.8.3pre1) was installed with all appropriate binaries, etc the blaster started working again. Additionally, it has been verified that transmission from the pvr_150 module is failed as well.
