[Bug 123078] Re: System -> Quit takes a long time to appear

2008-01-13 Thread Saïvann Carignan
** Description changed:

Immediately after logging in, selecting System -> Quit takes more than a
minute for the window to appear.

If waiting a few minutes after logging in, then selecting System -> Quit
  is much more responsive.

Also, when having to wait more than a minute for the window to appear,
the options available aren't all available. For example, the suspend and
hibernation options are simply not there. However, after waiting a few
minutes, those options are available again.
+
+ Saivann : This bug can be reproduced when the gnome-power-manager is not
+ checked in System / Preferences / Session options .

[Bug 147298] Re: [Gutsy] AD198x Analog: microphone misconfigured

2008-01-13 Thread Omegamormegil
Sound capture not working seems to be independent of the error message.
I still get this error message in Gutsy, but I got sound capture working
fine after turning up the levels in alsamixer. Also, the error message
no longer comes up in Hardy Alpha 3.

A bug that doesn't cause major problems, or one with a workaround
usually won't be fixed after a release. The developers make sure it's
fixed in the development version, so that it works in the upcoming
release. If you have an annoying bug that can't wait 6 months, the
Ubuntu Backports project can backport stuff fixed in the development
version into the current release.

[Bug 53516] Re: Incorrect 5.1 audio when playing DVD

2008-01-13 Thread hotani
I am also having problems getting 5.1 sound. After messing with
'.asoundrc' and several other hacks, I was able to get 5.1 sound working
with a couple of players. However, now when I attempt to play something
with totem (xine), it kills 5.1 for the entire system. I end up with
stereo coming over 6 speakers and no way to change it no matter what I
choose in VLC.

If I restart the system, 5.1 is back again. I don't know what service is
causing this to fail. The fact that ubuntu does not recognize and use
5.1 sound when hooked up to a capable soundcard (without a series of
hacks accompanied by liberal swearing), renders it quite useless as an
HTPC which is the primary function of my system. This is beyond
frustrating.

[Bug 182704] Re: Multimedia Keys Don't Work

2008-01-13 Thread Niels Abspoel
I have the same problem haven't figured out what causes it.

using evdev as a keyboard driver, doesn't help, xev reports no multimedia keys,
if I use the kbd driver, xev reports the multiemedia keys, but some buttons are
duplicates, like play/pause button is the same as media next, and the stop
button is the same as media back.

tried with different keyboard models, but the problem persists.

xorg config keyboard:

[Bug 153963] Re: [PATCH] Add STAC9228 DMIC support, SRU TEST CASE

2008-01-13 Thread Vinicius Massuchetto
Hello!

I upgraded to Hardy, and at least got no error message anymore when
testing the MIC at System > Preferences > Sound. But I still have no
sound. I installed the following packages:

alsa-base-1.0.15-4ubuntu1
alsa-utils-1.0.15-2ubuntu1
linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-3.2-generic
linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-3-generic-2.6.24-3.6

But all that I can hear from any record I do is that damn loud noise! I
played a lot with the volume control, and got no success yet.

Anyone can help me?
Thanks!

thh, your patch works for me on git HEAD
(1a1b285c24e1468afe82b09330dde5192a6e0013). Thanks so much for fixing
this! Would you mind telling me how the dmasound_awacs.c fix came to
your attention? I was completely stuck when I tried looking into this
earlier, maybe I'll learn something :-)

I'm also wondering whether this counts as a fix or a workaround. It's
somewhat weird that we're now seeing the same problem in the ALSA driver
as OSS used to have--but for years these DEAD DMA transfers never showed
up in ALSA.

[Bug 114331] Re: xserver starts but display is corrupt (i830M,845G)

2008-01-13 Thread Bryce Harrington
Dirk, your issue has been reported as upstream bug 14065:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14065

furry_gizmo, your issue has been reported as upstream bug 14066:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14066

Curaga, as you've provided insufficient information, upstream has
refused to look into your issue.

Curaga and Tobey, since upstream apparently wishes to treat each of your
issues separately, if you'd like your issues investigated, you must file
separate bugs either here on launchpad or directly upstream. Please see
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Debugging for directions on what files and data
are necessary to include in bug reports.

[Bug 129910] Re: Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx)

2008-01-13 Thread Felix Miata
I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy and observed no improvement. Then I added
vesafb to /etc/modules. This proved a partial solution. I no longer need
to manually modprobe vesafb, but there's a much too long 25 second delay
between Grub menu selection and observing anything but black on the
screen again. The boot process is far along before any startup messages
can be observed. mga gfxcard. 1.13 GHz CPU.

Confirmed on my install (hardy) too, all packages are up to date (14 jan

at all, no error messages, running any openoffice related command in the

02:02.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212/AR5213
Multiprotocol MAC/baseband processor (rev 01)

Same pattern - doesnt connect by default, then connects, disconnect
within 15 sec and stay the second time. Very annoying. Anyone at Ubuntu
have a comment here ?

Cheers

Summary should be changed from "initramfs not generated correctly on

kernels for reinstallation and applying in Synaptic made system bootable
with Hardy kernels and newer larger initrds.

[Bug 152362] Re: icedtea-java7-plugin always crashes firefox

2008-01-13 Thread Colin Dean
I tried Matthew's method, and met with moderate success. I was able to
load the test applet on java.com, but unable to load the applet which
Facebook uses for the upload of pictures.

I also tried to use the icedtea-
java7-bin_7~b22-1.5~20071018-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb, icedtea-
java7-jre_7~b22-1.5~20071018-0ubuntu1_all.deb, icedtea-
java7-plugin_7~b22-1.5~20071018-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb, and others from the
URL given above, but met with equal success/failure (depending on your
choice of optimism/pessimism, I guess).

I know it's not icedtea, but I really want to have a working java
plugin, so I tried downloading the jdk1.7.0 JDK from
https://jdk7.dev.java.net/. I heard that there was a plugin in it, but I
looked in jre/lib/amd64 and didn't see anything that looked like it
would be a plugin.

Using the b22 packages, Brian's test works.

The script to create such an iso is attached. The iso was created successfully.
It also booted successfully. However, when I entered the command line in the
hardy live, I did:
1. dhclient
2. apt-get update
3. apt-get install sshfs
then it showed me a kernel Oops (attached).
I put the created iso in http://www.stevenshiau.org/misc/hardy/ubuntu-live.iso
I am wonder why such a problem does not exist in Hardy alpha 3 installation CD
(http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/releases/hardy/alpha-3/hardy-desktop-i386.iso)
? Both of them use the same kernel 2.6.24-3. Unionfs is 1.4 and squashfs is

[Bug 179104] Re: Please merge gnucash 2.2.3-1 from debian unstable

2008-01-13 Thread Saïvann Carignan
I would like to ask a merge for gnucash 2.2.3 from debian unstable. I
builded the ubuntu package based on the debian one. The new gnucash
2.2.3-1ubuntu1 source package can be downloaded here :
http://upload.leservicetechnique.com/bugs/gnucash_2.2.3.tar.gz . I
tested this package.

Debian to ubuntu changes :
debian/rules: Added quilt patch system to fix missing icon in desktop file (
bug #148300 ) ( a patch has been provided to the original debian packager to
help him fixing this )
debian/control: Added build-depend for quilt, needed for the patch.

Ubuntu to ubuntu changes :
debian/rules: removed ofx support for licence reasons
http://bugs.debian.org/460407
  debian/control: build-depends removed libofx-dev

Other changes :
debian/control: Added the word money in the description of the package to fix
bug #155059

Sorry, upstream forgot it was his responsibility to maintain the Ubuntu

applet/+bug/93284/comments/12 said two months ago, the patch will be in
the next release, so it's a pretty good bet that the patch fixes the
problem.
