[Bug 208103] Re: Upgrade from 0.99.2-3ubuntu5 to 0.99.2-3ubuntu6 breaks wireless after resume (iwl3945)

2008-03-29 Thread Martin Nowack
I had somehow the same problem. But I don't think it is a pm-utils
problem it is just triggered through suspend/resume.

You have a udev problem, because following in your dmesg output:

wlan0_rename

and after resume:

wmaster0

Solution:
Remove the following file it gets regenerated after the next reboot:

rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

Maybe you've got a long bootup delay too, this will be gone too ;)

[Bug 158048] Re: Automatic usplash resolution (no static configuration file)

2008-03-29 Thread Saïvann Carignan
This bug stand for a automatic resolution detection. Actual usplash use
values in /etc/usplash.conf and initramfs must be updated for usplash to
work with the correct values. This bug ask usplash to be independent of
/etc/usplash.conf, initramfs and not to suffer from changing graphic
card/screen. Usplash should detect the good resolution and use it
automatically at each boot (or use a generic one).

[Bug 181144] Re: xfce battery indicator is wrong

2008-03-29 Thread Lionel Le Folgoc
This is indeed not fixed:
- the old interface is marked as deprecated so that's not really a long term
solution
- the plugin with or without the 04_use-sysfs.patch is still broken for me.

The only (working) long-term fix is to use the new hal based battery-
plugin branch when it's released, otherwise there will be the same issue
each time the kernel batteries interface changes.

[Bug 208103] Re: Upgrade from 0.99.2-3ubuntu5 to 0.99.2-3ubuntu6 breaks wireless after resume (iwl3945)

2008-03-29 Thread Mary Gardiner
Removing /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and rebooting does
mean that I can now successfully suspend and resume and my wireless
still works. You don't say how you found out about this, or whether it
is a known bug or not (I can't find duplicates on a search for 70
-persistent-net.rules), so I am changing the Package to udev.

** Changed in: udev (Ubuntu)

[Bug 198134] Re: evince not respecting default printer

2008-03-29 Thread Wendy
Using Evince Document Viewer 2.20.1 in Ubuntu Gutsy, I noticed that the
the default printer settings are ignored and when entered in the print
setup, are forgotten as soon as Evince is exited and re-entered.

My default printer (a Brother) is remembered by my other applications,
but not by Evince. The same about paper size (A4). I know it's easy to
open the Print Setup menu and change Any Printer to Brother... and
Paper Size from US Letter to A4, but hey, since other applications
can remember such basic settings, I thought, well, let's just ask.

Thanks for your attention. Kind regards,
Wendy

[Bug 190934] Re: [hardy] keyboard modifiers randomly forgotten

2008-03-29 Thread Rocko
I reproduced this bug (once only) by doing the following:

1. I ran xev.

2. I did the key combination for 'brightness down'. The brightness
dimmed but xev reported a continuous series of 101 key press / release
events. This keycode 101 is listed at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KubuntuLaptopKeycodes as being the brightness
down key for some Dell laptops like mine.

3. I did the key combination for 'brightness up'. The brightness
increased and xev reported a single key press / release combination for
key code 212. The stream of 101 keycodes stopped.

After step 3, the key modifiers all work.

However, I haven't been able to make it happen again. Brightness down
normally generates no key events as far as xev is concerned (although
the brightness does dim) and brightness up generates a single press /
release sequence for keycode 212.

So might the bug be related to the brightness controls? Note bug 188775,
where X changes the screen brightness at random intervals for some
users. I haven't noticed that bug on my system for a while now, but X
now also rarely forgets key modifiers - it seems to happen after resume
or in the 'brightness down' sequence in step 2 above.

Make sure, if you have that the ouput 'Front' is enabled (check alsamixer if in

[Bug 192056] OpenOffice.org User's list

2008-03-29 Thread Lars Noodén
Yvette,

I'm not sure how I got CC:d in this, but since I have been, I'll add my
2¢.

The security on MS Office documents appears to be easily circumvented and
probably only exists for the dual purposes of (false) marketing and hindering
interoperability.
However, I myself neither use nor condone the use of MS Office, so I cannot do
more than say that I hear from time to time about locked documents being
retrieved.

But the above is not immediately helpful in getting your lost documents.

Since this is not a bug and not a problem with the *buntu distros, the best
place to get practical information regarding question like this would be to
contact the OpenOffice.org Users' mailing list and pose your question there:
   [EMAIL PROTECTED]

see also
  http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/SummarizeList?listName=users
  mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
  http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/SearchList?listName=users

From there you should be able to 1) sooner or later get information
about how to get your lost documents, 2) ensure that the needed
functionality is eventually added to OpenOffice.org if it is currently
missing.

the close button is clicked an alert box comes up saying, The document
Document1 has been modified. Do you want to save your changes? The
three options are the following: Save, Discard, Cancel. The problem with
this is that the word Cancel could mean to cancel saving the changes

[Bug 207798] Re: libglib1.2 dependency

2008-03-29 Thread Gert Kulyk
I'm rather sure this is not a valid bug-report. The driver is a third
party one, ubuntu unfortunately cannot take care of every possible
dependency of apps not provided by ubuntu (and like in this case, non
free ones).

glib1.2 as well as gtk+1.2 are deprecated for a few years now, there is
no longer any upstream-support for these libs, so as a consequence they
were removed from hardy because fixing possible security issues and
other oddities in combination with other apps would require too much
manpower needed for other applications which are much more important
nowadays.

I did not try it yet, but I'm rather sure you can install the gutsy-packages in
hardy to make the driver work (or you can recompile them based upon the
gutsy-source-packages for hardy).
The best solution would be of course, if canon would provide updated drivers,
but I'm not sure how likely something like this is.

Ok, I got something further with gvfs-mount; it may not be an exact duplicate
of the other bug. The share I'm mounting is called DynStor; it doesn't support
listing its contents or mounting it directly, instead one can only mount
DynStor/SomeVolumeName. Another share on another server does seem to work
though:

Just a side-note, it alse crashes with 4 virtual desktops. Just wait for

and there she goes.. And indeed its reproducible for just a couple
times (i tried it for several times and it looks like it is stable when
it crashes three times, after a reboot you can try it again).

[Bug 208686] [NEW] nfs resources in fstab are not mounted

2008-03-29 Thread Carlos Perelló Marín
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

With latest Ubuntu Hardy packages, network manager doesn't automatically
mount all nfs entries in /etc/fstab file once the network link is set.
Configuring wireless manually at /etc/network/interfaces those entries
are mounted automatically.

Network manager should mount them too.

I don't know whether is related or not, but I have another laptop where
the mount is done automatically for the same nfs shares, the only
difference is the wireless driver, the one that gives problems is
iwl3945, the one that works is ipw2200. With iwl3945 I get two different
interfaces for the same device, eth1 (useless) and wlan0_rename (the one
that works):

eth1 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr

[Bug 207798] Re: libglib1.2 dependency

2008-03-29 Thread Gert Kulyk
I've found a possible workaround in debian bug tracker. It is dealing with a
similar issue (canon ip1500). The debian package you've posted was converted
from a rpm one, using alien. Alien picked up the dependencies that where
present on the system, the package was initially created (e.g. gutsy),
therefore it depends on libglib1.2 and not on libglib1.2ldbl, which is now the
name of the library. To get it work, download the driver from canon website and
convert the package using alien on your hardy-install (with all needed
dependencies already installed).

[Bug 208480] Re: missing shares-admin

2008-03-29 Thread Khashayar Naderehvandi
Of course, it's been changed to nautilus-share, which supports sharing folders
anonymously.

Is it really nautilus-share that's supposed to be the replacement comes
Hardy? I was of the impression that nautilus-share wasn't very well
localized. At least it's not translated at all to Swedish.

Do you use the eject item option before unplugging your key? There is
thousand of vfat users and nobody else is having similar issues so it's
not likely due to that

note that the 3D-bits are in mesa, not the intel driver. That said, to
get the default EXA behaviour, use 'Option MigrationHeuristic
always'.

[Bug 124035] No scripts

2008-03-29 Thread Lars Noodén
I'm not sure. I seem to have adjusted my behavior and will have to
observe. If you hear nothing back by next saturday, then consider it
resolved or at least intermittent enough that it's not immediately
solvable.

I have no other add-ons at this time except enigmail. I took them all
out for a while and did a fresh install of thunderbird.

In regards to trying with the latest ubuntu. No, I cannot. PPC is not
supported and the *buntu releases later than 7.04 do not function. I
use this machine for work and am not willing to mess with it more. The
last few (about 8 or 9) times I tried to move from 7.04 to 7.10 the
display no longer worked and I had to re-install 7.04. That was true
for both the update (dist-upgrade) via apt and adept, as well as for the
fresh install via both the desktop and the alternate. So the short
answer is no, I will continue with the current version of 7.04

[Bug 207796] Re: pulseaudio segfaults when switching streams

2008-03-29 Thread rexy
I have not yet been able to generate backtraces of the problem since i
havent had time, however the problem does seem to be related to
bluetooth. For instance switching the stream from the internal card to
bluetooth works fine, switching back makes it crash. If i do not load a
bluetooth device the pulseaudio server is much more stable.
