[Bug 226041] Re: package pulseaudio 0.9.10-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade:

2008-05-16 Thread Daniel T Chen
Not a pulseaudio bug. See your dependency report:
...
sysv-rc 2.86.ds1-38
...

While the version trivially meets the versioned dependency requirement
in the control file, that sysv-rc package is from Debian
testing/unstable and does not contain Ubuntu's multiuser semantics.
Please do not use Debian testing/unstable's sysv-rc with Ubuntu hardy's
pulseaudio.

[Bug 175490] Re: glipper crashed with ValueError in load()

2008-05-16 Thread bullium
I also upgraded from Hardy to Heron with glipper crashing when adding it
to the panel. As other comments suggested I deleted ~/.glipper directory
and could then add glipper to the panel. Although it did crash again
after trying to clear the list, I then copied some text and cleared the
list a second time and it did not and hasn't crashed since. So my
resolution was to delete the ~./glipper folder - add glipper to the
panel - copy text to the clipboard - clear the list. This seems to
solve the issue indefinetly for me. Thanks for the comments, launchpad
is great!

[Bug 190754] Re: Over-optimistic buffering in PulseAudio causes underruns (audible stuttering, pops)

2008-05-16 Thread Daniel T Chen
Conn, you're correct in presuming the effect of the fragment settings
are highly dependent on audio hardware. (Please note that lspci -v
information is insufficient to diagnose; one needs to provide lspci
-nv|grep -A1 040[13]. It's the SSID that's important. Or, provide the
codec dump in /proc/asound/card*/*codec*.) For that reason, it is not
possible to completely resolve the symptoms on all hardware with one set
of default fragment parameters.

Marking the linux task fix committed (I'm of a mind to mark the
pulseaudio task invalid because of the intractability of all codecdsp
playing nicely with one default configuration).

[Bug 225351] Re: OO.o Calc: selected cell goes to last one after cut

2008-05-16 Thread tweedledee
I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person to have ever observed this.
I've posted a bug report on the OO tracker:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=89560

I'm not sure if this is an issue with the OO version distributed from
their website, but I see it in both Ubuntu and Debian, so I suspect it
is a general bug.

I believe I have nailed down the problem (that when cutting and then
moving focus using the keyboard, Calc things the cell that was cut PRIOR
to the one just operated on has the focus, and moves relative to that
cell rather than the actually focused one), but feel free to add details
if you see different behavior.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6420la (AMD Turion 64 x2) with Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy).
First I was using Gutsy, I installed ndiswrapper with XP drivers and it worked
very good. But hardy doesn't detects my device and installing ndiswrapper
nothing happens.

[Bug 199573] Re: S-ATA2 HDD not recongnized (Samsung T166 Spinpoint)/ Nvidia Sata Controller (nforce 780a) not working

2008-05-16 Thread Christoph
AHCI is a open controller interface (developed by Intel). If your
devices are working with this standart, you don't need to search for the
right (closed?!), special sata-controller driver. So its not a bug -
but a feature. ^.^

But one has to know it..

(I don't know what pci=nomsi is doing in detail. Its some kind of hind
for the kernel finding/recognizing your sata devices, as far as I know.)

[Bug 230826] Re: Keyboard Layout selector doesn't work under 8.04

2008-05-16 Thread Timpotten
I have standard 8.04 Gnome + K- and a Spanish USB keyboard which worked
fine until a couple of days, when the system could not find it, even
though the keyboard was present at USB port.

Fortunately I found an old PS2 keyboard, which worked, but only as US
layout. Finally, at preferenceskeyboard deleting US and having only
Spanish displayed and selected it found the right layout.

Yesterday it did the same, except now the preferenceskeyboard showed
both the (deleted) US plus the Spanish option, but neither radio button
was lit or activated.

Again only deleting both and selecting Spanish restored the layout and
the USB keyboard.

This would be a serious problem for someone without an old PS2 keyboard
hoarded (for why?) in the basement !

I tried upgrading to 8.04 from a clean install of 7.10, which also

nVidia packages and tried again. The upgrade succeeded, but I could not
get any resolutions greater than 640x480 to work, even after installing
the nVidia restricted drivers. I did a clean install of 8.04, and

[Bug 36625] Re: can't remove nvidia-glx

2008-05-16 Thread PieterIserbyt
Didn't read this bug, already fix it. I solved it differently than
rodrigo: created a symbolic link /usr/lib32 that points to /usr/lib
so the removal script that assumes 32-bit only will work.

Issuing these commands should take care of the problem:

sudo ln -s /usr/lib /usr/lib32
sudo aptitude remove nvidia-glx
sudo rm /usr/lib32

[Bug 231134] [NEW] compiz: high CPU usage with minimized apps like amarok

2008-05-16 Thread H Koch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Compiz uses 100% of a CPU when an amarok process is running.
With just k3b, kmail, ktorrent, and a few konqueror windows, it is still 10%.
All processes involved, other than compiz, are idle.

I noticed this while logging in (to the home machine) from work.
I am quite sure that the owner of these processes has all windows minimized,
since this is is what he always does.
(But 100% CPU usage to display an amarok window is a problem in any case.)
There are two other compiz.real processes running, from other users
that always close their applications, and their CPU usage is only 0.5%.

The machine is a 3GHz Core2 Duo, running up-to-date Ubuntu Hardy 8.04,
compiz 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu6,
nvidia-kernel-common 20051028+1ubuntu8,
nvidia-glx-new 169.12+2.6.24.12-16.34,
amarok 2:1.4.9.1-0ubuntu3+medibuntu1.
I would be happy to provide additional information.

Earlier bug reports (like 77164) mention similar issues, but they involve
earlier Ubuntu versions and seem to be closed.

[Bug 211682] Re: Screen resolution incorrectly detected with external monitor in kde4

2008-05-16 Thread Brian harkness
I have a similar issue, both with hardy and with gutsy.

If my laptop is connected to an external monitor of a larger size, kdm-
kde4 looks fine, and seems to understand to clone the screen and make
the external monitor go to its full resolution. The laptop shows a
portion of the screen (virtual)

When kde4 loads, it oddly places the laptop desktop on top of the
desktop created for the external screen. The panel ends up being at
the base of where the bottom of where the laptop's desktop would be: and
goes only as far left as the laptop display permits. The wallpaper
looks like a photo was placed on an identical larger one.

Plasma items can be placed on the desktop, but if slid to the area where
the smaller area is, they disappear underneath it. An item on the
smaller area, i.e. a picture frame, it can be dragged onto the
extended desktop... just not vice versa. Two wallpapers actually
exist: one for the smaller and one for the larger. Very weird
artifacts... it is usable, just not how it should be.

If I boot into KDE3, everything configures properly.

that this is real bug and gutsy-elephant-skin.jpg (7x smaller) from

will not increase by converting JPG to loseless PNG format).

[Bug 75906] Re: left-channel distortion on intel-hda

2008-05-16 Thread Ted
Installing linux-backports-modules does not fix the problem on my HP
dv9000. I reproduced the bug by playing a file in rhythmbox and turning
up the right channel in alsamixer and then the left channel. While my
aplay lists my card as hda nvidia, the codec that's used by ALSA is hda
intel, because apparently the two are similar enough for it to work. My
headphone channel on my laptop has always worked fine.

Am I missing the workaround? I installed the linux-backports-modules-
hardy package.
