[Bug 103173] Re: [totem-xine] DVD will not play

2008-06-15 Thread John Cottier
After upgrade to Hardy, I found xine was broken for DVD playing (there
is no plugin to handle dvd:/...), and kaffeine could not find the
libdvdcss2 library, which I had to re-install. I changed the settings in
the xine gui from dev/dvd to dev/scd0 and it worked fine. But Kaffiene
still wont recognize the libdvdcss2 that is installed, and wont play
:-(. VLC worked out of the box, but its seems a bit unstable.

2008-06-15 Thread mbrennwa
After reporting that this bug also occurs on my machine (2008-06-04) I

Just out of curiosity I re-activated the Desktop Effects again today,

bug is fixed for sure, but some of the recent updates I got through the
automatic updater seem to have done something good, at least on my

[Bug 240213] [NEW] Ubuntu stalls after going into hiberation

2008-06-15 Thread Number7

[Bug 209084] Re: no run as root in menu in hardy

2008-06-15 Thread otzenpunk
So my proposal is this:

The attachment is supposed to be installed as /usr/bin/wireshark-root.
It tries su-to-root, gksu and kdesudo in this order, (although I don't
know if I got the options for kdesudo right), and when nothing's there
it opens x-terminal-emulator with plain sudo.

wireshark-root.desktop should include the following lines:
TryExec=wireshark-root
Exec=wireshark-root

And the wireshark package should recommend menu | gksu | kdesudo as
alternatives.

[Bug 49613] Re: Adobe Flash does not support WMODE

2008-06-15 Thread Alexander Jones
I've updated the bug title to reflect the actual bug, not the symptoms.

** Summary changed:

- Flash content always on top of web pages
+ Adobe Flash does not support WMODE

** Description changed:

- The Adobe Flash plugin does not support the transparent wmode used by
- many websites.
+ The Adobe Flash plugin does not support the wmode option used by many
+ websites.

As a result, all Flash is drawn on top of other content, often obscuring
major parts of web pages and making it unusable.

*There is unfortunately nothing we can do.* If you want this fixed, vote for
the bug on Adobe's bug tracker.

  http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-80

  Test case:

  http://www.ishares.com/home.jhtml

Try to operate the menus at left or top. The boxes are obscured by the
  Flash content.

[Bug 116885] Re: Can't sync Treo 650 with Jpilot / Ubuntu

2008-06-15 Thread Alex Mayorga Adame
Felipe,

I figured it out eventually too. If you agree that the documentation is
lacking and there's a number of people reporting on this problem the bug
is there. Did you create one to follow up? Otherwise I think this one
should remain open.

What worked for me in the end with the Treo 600 was to use KPilot and
set usb: as Pilot device under General Setup - Device.

i have a toshiba satelite and i had audacity use alsa and i ran my microphone

[Bug 233840] Re: Cursor jums when restoring an application from alltray

2008-06-15 Thread Michael B. Trausch
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 106583 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106583

The reason that window decorations are apparently added in gkrellm's
default mode would appear to be because of the workarounds for Compiz
that had to be implemented, which changed the way windows are handled by
Alltray so that it works better with compiz. However, if the package in
the PPA solved your mouse-jumping problem, than the bug was in the way
that Alltray handled windows _before_, so that's fixed at least, and
that would make this bug a symptom of bug 106583, which means that this
issue is a duplicate.

One other thing is that Alltray generally operates with the assumption
that there will be window borders. There is some xmms-specific
exception to this rule, from what I've seen while working in the
sources, but I haven't had the chance to investigate that any further
than simply knowing of its existence. If the window decorations are an
issue, though, that would be a separate bug.

On a totally unrelated note, I do find it interesting that you'd want
gkrellm hidden... I'd prefer to see it docked as a panel, myself, but I
guess everyone's got different preferences. :-)

It was a corrupted reiserfs problem. I have a different file system I'm
dumping that stuff to in that way and don't get a problem now.

I could keep using the resiser partition, it was fine after I ran a bunch of
fsck stuff and fixed up the issues. Not sure how it got corrupted.

[Bug 240218] [NEW] pillarboxing in Hardy under Sun XVM

2008-06-15 Thread macice
Public bug reported:

When I install Ubuntu Hardy under Sun XVM 1.6.0 under vista the screen
pillar boxes when I put XVM into full screen mode (there is a black
border around all four sides of the screen with the content in the
centre of the screen).

I am using the release versions of Sun XVM and the stock Ubuntu
installed from an ISO.

I would appreciate an upstream fix to this as I think the “Bug” spoils
an otherwise very usable system.

Just for reference the bug is not present in any of my Gutsy or Feisty
VM’s and appears to have snuck in during the change to x.org 7.3.

[Bug 239744] Re: ubuntu refuses install updates

2008-06-15 Thread Richard Seguin
Can you do a cat /etc/hosts and see what IP your hostname is set to
please? Usually when I see unable to resolve... when a login is done
or an apt-get (before it tries to reach the repository) I think that the
hostname of the machine doesn't match the IP 127.0.1.1...

Your hosts file should begin something like this

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 jupiter

Where jupiter is your hostname should be... If the IP address is
different that could be the problem

Please report back?

Thanks,

Richard Seguin

[Bug 240156] Re: locking audio - error writing to kino/mjpeg audio filter

2008-06-15 Thread amnesia
Update:
On one of my machines, I somehow managed not to get the error message error
writing to kino/mjpeg audio filter. However it still takes a long time until
locking audio goes away, but then the conversion is started and seems to work
nicely.
I still experience something strange on this machine: if I have enable audio
in preferences checked in, the playback is sped up. Could it be caused by the
same thing?

My other machine still has the error message. I have no idea why the one
started working. Not installed any extra packages in the meantime.

[Bug 240221] [NEW] System freeze when using acerhk and b43 wlan driver (Acer Aspire 3042WLMi)

2008-06-15 Thread Manuel Feier
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: 8.04 Desktop for i386
Hardware: Acer Aspire 3024WLMi

When enabling the wireless function of the computer with the module
acerhk and using the wireless network (chipset: BCM4318), the system
completely freezes after a couple of moments.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
- Boot Ubuntu 8.04 from CD
- Install and activate restricted wlan firmware for driver b43 (as suggested by
ubuntu)
- Load acerhk kernel module (modprobe acerhk)
- Enable wlan chip (echo 1 | sudo tee /proc/driver/acerhk/wirelessled)
- Connect to an access point (I used WPA1 personal)
- Browse the web with Firefox3
= After a random number of instants the system completely freezes

Some thoughts:
- This problem did not exist in the last Ubuntu release
- Is this a known problem?
- Is there a way to get kernel error messages from a freezing system?

Thanks in advance for any help, hints and suggestions.

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-06-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Renzo,

You're right; if I use the unmodified gvfs-backends package from hardy-
updates, then I don't see this problem with AD authentication - it's
only introduced when I apply Paul's patch.

I do have an updated version of that patch which restores correct
behavior in AD environments.

The only question that remains is, what should the correct behavior be
in the absence of kerberos credentials (prompting for username/password,
vs. automatically connecting anonymously), given that we don't really
want to be architecting a completely new UI in an SRU? You have argued
that a username/password prompt should be presented. I'm inclined to
agree.

BTW, the reason on the server side that the shares are not displayed at
all when connecting to your samba server is that you're using the
'restrict anonymous = 2' option. I don't know why that's part of the
Ubuntu AD howto; it's not required for AD integration, its only effect
is to prevent one from retrieving a list of shares anonymously. As a
workaround, you could remove this option on your samba servers, and the
corresponding (and non-default) registry setting on your Windows
servers, if you're comfortable with share lists being retrievable
without authentication.

In any case this would still be a problem for user home autoshares, so
I've attached the patch to gvfs 0.2.4 which implements this fallback
sequence (kerberos - u/p - anonymous).

Sebastien, since I'm not seeing the issues in the current patch, it
would be helpful to have a concrete reference to the problems that
upstream finds with it so that we can get those resolved.

Re: [Bug 234837] Re: Binutils corrupts Open MPI

Care to explain?

As my bug report stated, the _only_ change was the Gutsy/Hardy upgrade
as I compiled the _same sources_.

This is no Open MPI bug. This is a toolchain bug that happens to break
Open MPI.
