Re: [Bug 241480] Re: bacula-fd does not start when installed via bacula-client

2008-06-22 Thread Tim Richardson
Thank you for teaching me that.
I was wrong in my cause of the problem.
My mistake was to use this line in bacula-fd.conf

 FDAddress = d420.local
 #FDAddress = 127.0.0.1

I suppose avahi or whatever helps .local work is not ready when the
script runs.

I really wonder how this typo ended up in Ubuntu's smb.conf while it

Should I suspect a fork somewhere, or some recent changes in Debian

[Bug 232364] Re: dbus-launch hangs at session start waiting on socket output in libxcb

2008-06-22 Thread Cody A.W. Somerville
I had thought that dbus --auto-launch was launched by dbus --sh-syntax
--exit-with-session but after reading the man page, I realized that it
only occurs when something tries to access dbus and there is no session
bus already started. A quick check showed that gnome-screensaver which
is launched just shortly before dbus --sh-syntax --exit-with-session
depends on dbus which lead me to hypothesis that the race is between the
two dbus-launch processes caused by the libxcb issues. After moving
dbus-launch before gnome-screensaver, I'm happy to report that it
doesn't appear to hang anymore. Although this does not prove that it is
fixed (since the issue is intermittent and I may have just gotten lucky)
and it definitely doesn't fix the libxcb problems, I'm going to upload
my changes to Intrepid right away as I'd like it to be shipped with
first alpha of Intrepid. I'll begin working on an SRU tomorrow after
getting more feedback and doing more tests provided the issue doesn't
come back. :)

[Bug 242055] [NEW] gnome-terminal in Intrepid lets through tab-changing key combinations if no more tabs exist

2008-06-22 Thread William Grant
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Since upgrading to Intrepid yesterday, my gnome-terminal has been
passing a lot of Ctrl+Pg{Up,Dn}s to its tabs. Apparently it recently
started letting them through sometimes - when there are no more tabs in
the requested direction. For example, pressing Ctrl+PgUp in the first
tab will result in Ctrl+PgUp being sent to the terminal, while in the
second tab it will not.

[Bug 242056] [NEW] Mplayer in Ubuntu repos isn't compiled with joystick support

2008-06-22 Thread chmmr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mplayer

In a prior release, I could use my joystick with mplayer to control
play/pause, volume etc. At some point, this stopped working. Worst
thing is it fails silently, you don't get any message like couldn't
find /dev/input/js0, joystick support disabled, etc. It just doesn't
work.

I dug around and found out that mplayer doesn't compile joystick support
by default, it must be enabled with the --enable-joystick argument for
./configure. I compiled myself with this option and it works perfectly
now. Is there any intentional reason the version of mplayer in the
Ubuntu repos (Gutsy, Hardy) isn't compiled with it? I can't find any
reason for it on the mplayer mailing list, so if this is low-risk it'd
be nice if it were fixed in Ubuntu's versions.

[Bug 242054] Re: 237553

2008-06-22 Thread Marlon Cisternas Milla
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:

1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Bug 194638] Re: Compiz gets into a state where going fullscreen in apps causes an X11 BadAlloc error

2008-06-22 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Happened again today, except this time the bug occurred whenever the
video WASN'T in fullscreen mode. I got backtraces for both Totem and
MPlayer; they are attached. They don't really say much though, basically
just that the program gave a frame to the X server and got back this
error.

At the time the bug happened, I was only using 75% RAM and 5% of SWAP.
After getting the backtraces, I noticed that I had about a dozen
instances of SMPlayer open (probably due to a stuck shortcut key that
opened too many). After closing them, the bug went away, even though my
RAM usage had barely changed (75% - 72%). Then I tried opening a dozen
instances of SMPlayer again (- 78% RAM usage) and the bug came back.

Perhaps the problem is that X and/or Compiz reserves video memory for
each app that might need it, even when they haven't asked for it? But
that the memory for fullscreen mode is shared? Though that wouldn't
explain the original situation where the bug happens in fullscreen mode

[Bug 203157] Re: Liferea uses a lot of CPU at times

2008-06-22 Thread Thomas Butter
I compiled the intrepid version for hardy and the problem still happens.

It is still spinning on the unavailable unix socket. According to gdb
this happens in libxcb because it gets a xcb_connection_t with the fd of
the socket. Probably the output below helps. Please tell me if you need
any further information since liferea became totally unusable for me.

[Bug 9068] Re: Serial mice are not autodetected

2008-06-22 Thread Andrew Pam
* Other distros detect serial mice
* It's OK to ask the user for input
* Has anyone looked at Please move your mouse while read-only probing serial
ports?
* If there is hardware that gets permanently damaged from probing, it's the
responsibility of maintainers for the drivers for that hardware and/or the
manufacturers and/or owners to provide information about how to avoid the
problem.

[Bug 241551] Re: Ubuntu 8.04 fails to resume from hibernation

2008-06-22 Thread ar-jar
As I wrote in my original description of the failure I sometimes (but not
always - hence the edit of this ticket) get a message box down right on the
screen when resuming from hibernation. It's been blank so far but this morning
I could read it for the first time. It says Sleep problem Your computer failed
to hibernate. Check the help file for common problems. It seems to me thought
that the hibernation worked fine. And this time I even got a visible password
input dialog. That happens every 10:th time or so. /Arto
PS. I'll check that help file.

[Bug 164819] Re: Can't Remove Scrollkeeper without trashing Gnome

2008-06-22 Thread Alistair Ireland
Well I upgraded to Hardy, and apart from numerous other problems, there
is still this with Scrollkeeper.

I didn't try the other fixes shown above yet but did delete the cron
jobs from cron.weekly etc.

Interestingly, although the weekly cron job is gone, scrollkeeper is
still running weekly, there are still log files in /var/log dated AFTER
I deleted the cron files!!

[Bug 238896] Re: No wifi with b43legacy

2008-06-22 Thread miguel
Hi.

After research for a while for the problem when shutting down the SO
have noted for some error lines.

After search for the file log have found this:

on file /var/log/daemon.log

firmware_helper[5343]: main: error loading
'/lib/firmware/b43legacy/ucode2.fw' for device
'/devices/pci:00/:00:0c.0/ssb0:0/firmware/ssb0:0' with driver
'(unknown)'

After search in net for drivers have found the solution... here --
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware

Have resolve the problem with a simple driver update making

sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter

Sorry about this, i guess you can delete all my post because they don
belong to this bug...

Sorry and thanks for all...

[Bug 238261] Re: gedit crash on save as

2008-06-22 Thread John Cromie
Pedro, Right, here is the backtrace. I have provided a backtrace for
gedit, because (a) the bug affects all applications that use the Gnome
file chooser dialogues (including gedit), and (b) I couldn't get OOo to
run under gdb (just not good enough!). Since it appears common to
anything using the gedit dialogues, this should be OK.

[Bug 203668] Re: [Hardy] Selecting Quit causes Gnome to stop responding

2008-06-22 Thread urelnigar
I want to note, that the first time I click on the Quit icon, it takes about
30-40 seconds for the dialog to show up.
After that, each time I click it shows up, instantly.

[Bug 242068] [NEW] No signal to monitor

2008-06-22 Thread William BENNETT
Public bug reported:

Using Hardy Heron on a Fujitsu laptop.

Using a docking station, connected to a Samsung monitor.

Laptop monitor functions well. Signal does not get to Samsung.

Local (ie., Sydney Linux Users Group) suggested using xrandr with and
wiithout the station. Did so. There is a difference.

They also suggested logging a bug against xserver-xorg-video-intel.

Has anyone encountered this bug?

Regards,

William Bennett.

How you can replicate the problem:
1. Go from System- Preferences- Sessions- Select tab: Current Session-
Find gnome-power-manager and click on Remove.
2. Click on the Quit icon. (watch the delay of ~50 seconds, until the Quit
dialog appears)

[Bug 242071] [NEW] Network Connection fails although Network Manager shows connected

2008-06-22 Thread Das Auge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Sometimes (not always) at startup the ethernet connection does not
establish. Network-manager shows connected, but all the IP addresses are
0.0.0.0 (in Verbindungsinformationen). Network manager does not react
on plug-off / plug-in of the ethernet cable, in these cases. I found no
way to connect then, except of restarting the PC (sometimes 3x) until
the connection works after start-up.

What should happen:
Every time I start the computer, it connects to the ethernet. If the ethernet
cable is plugged off, network manager applet shows a connection failed. If I
plug in the cable, network manager establishes an ethernet connecion.

What happens:
If I start the computer, it does not connect to ethernet. If the ethernet cable
is plugged off, network manager shows a connection active, but connection is
not working. If I plug in the cable, network manager does not do anything,
connection is not working.

Hint:
Probably it has to do with the Programs that are loaded at start-up: Since I
Installed xscreensaver and load it at start up, the problem appears much more
often (about every second time). Before it appeared maybe once a week.

My system Ubuntu 8.04:
Linux system 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 4 16:35:01 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

I had the same problem in KDE in Kubuntu 7.10.

[Bug 157777] Re: gutsy amd64 freeze crash lockup

2008-06-22 Thread Ralph Corderoy
Still happening with vmlinuz-2.6.24-19-generic. One thing I've just
noticed, printk() output in dmesg has a timestamp at the start of the
line. It should be seconds since booting but this machine is
consistently running at about 1600 seconds an hour. Could this be
connected? Some kind of CPU power-saving causing problems? Or a
separate bug? I've now got the netconsole module running with a second
machine logging and /proc/sys/kernel/printk set to 9 and
/proc/sys/kernel/printk_ratelimit to 0 so I'm hoping SysRq key will work
on the next lock-up.

[Bug 89860] Re: /proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state always says open

2008-06-22 Thread Konst
Guys, I've bought one more HP 530 and installed Kubuntu Hardy there.

So : in LiveCD mode and after installing Kubuntu to hard disk system was
reacting on laptop lid close. (But after turning off display system
turned it on in a couple of seconds.)

I noticed that vesa driver for graphical adapter was used.

I changed driver to intel. And then system stopped reacting on laptop
lid close !

So, I think using intel driver can be reason for this bug. Please try
to change your driver to vesa and check if system starts reacting
correctly.

BTW, I remember that my first laptop was reacting on laptop lid close
when I was using i810 driver with i915resolution hacks on Feisty.

In gnunet-qt, the same crash was caused by the program, and not by QT
itself. Might well be the same here.

[Bug 35316] Re: these windows do not support save current setup message questionable

2008-06-22 Thread Tiede
hmmm... June 2008, and this issue is still present.
Will it ever be resolved upstream?

Anyway, I think this has some importance. Especially since I am left currently
with no viable option.
In my case, I am using stalonetray. It works quite well and I don't want to
part with it.
After receiving this message, I tried a simple killall stalonetray and saving
the session. I also disabled the stalonetray entry in the current session tab
and unticked the stalonetray box in the Startup Programs tab.
At first, I was happy. Saving the session and logging out did not prompt that
warning.
So I reanabled it and made sure NOT to press the save-session button... No
dice, once I try to logout, the message is there again... Although I never told
it to try to save the session... This is most annoying. I do hope it gets some
attention...

In the mean time, anybody knows a noob-friendly work-around or a way to
fix this issue. (even if it just makes it silent, that'll be fine. At
least my laptop would shut off as expected)...

[Bug 236350] Re: Merging Miro 1.2.3-1 from Debian Unstable

2008-06-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package miro - 1.2.3-1.1ubuntu1

---
miro (1.2.3-1.1ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable (LP: #236350), remaining changes:
- debian/control:
  + Build-depend on xulrunner-1.9-dev; Debian's xul packages are still
  named differently to ours.
  * New changes:
- debian/patches/91_fix_movie_dir_selector
+ Gtk.FileChooser.get_filename() gets only the final component of the
filename; this makes the download movies to selector break Miro.

miro (1.2.3-1.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * debian/control:
+ Build-depend on xulrunner-dev instead of libxul-dev, and newer releases
   of python-gnome2-extras-dev that use xulrunner-1.9.
+ Depend on xulrunner-1.9 instead of xulrunner, and newer releases of
   python-gnome2-extras. (Closes: #480808)

miro (1.2.3-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * debian/rules:
+ Simplify the file a bit, drop obsolete stuff.
+ Update 'clean' rule to drop useless stuff (to make the debdiff smaller).
  * debian/README.Debian:
+ Add note about the iHeartMiro Firefox plugin.
+ Document how to use 'esddsp' with Miro.
  * debian/copyright: Update.
+ Drop platform/gtk-x11/coverage.py section, file has been removed.
  * debian/control:
+ Drop 'Recommends: libxine1-ffmpeg', we depend on it via libxine1-plugins.
+ Move from 'optional' to 'extra' as we depend on libxine1-plugins
   which is also 'extra'.
 + Make python-dbus a dependency, no build-dependency.
+ Force xulrunner to be = 1.8.1.14 to get the latest security fixes.
  * Not reproducible in the current release, thus closing:
+ esddsp democracyplayer causes Bus error (Closes: #413681).
I verified that this works fine now, addeds docs to README.Debian.
+ Crash playing an audio podcast (Closes: #462016).

miro (1.2.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (Closes: #473139).
+ There's a default autodownload setting option now (Closes: #439076).
+ Torrents have a download speed limit options now (Closes: #387716).
 + debian/patches/10_movies_dir.patch: Update.
 + debian/patches/20_no_autoupdate.patch: Update.
 + debian/patches/30_de_po_typo.patch: Drop, merged upstream.
 + debian/patches/50_xine_extractor_path.patch: Update.
  * Switch to building for Python 2.5, as Python 2.4 has been removed
from the archive (Closes: #476159, #476486, #445249).
  * Build-depend on libffi-dev which is an extra package now (Closes: #472158).
  * debian/patches/80_gcc-4.3_headers.patch: Add file, which fixes
compile errors with gcc 4.3 (Closes: #466757). Thanks
Arthur Loiret [EMAIL PROTECTED] for the patch!
  * debian/menu: Add xpm icon for displaying in the Debian menu.
  * Closing a bunch of bugs which I cannot reproduce in the latest release:
+ miro: DbusException when starting (Closes: #466011).
+ miro: Segfault when switching to Library during video
playback (Closes: #472327). Please reopen if you can reproduce this
multiple times in a row with the latest version.
+ Insufficient version dependency for python-gtk2 (Closes: #443101).
+ miro: UI freezes on keyboard input (Closes: #459039).
  * Add python-gst0.10 dependency as Miro now supports switching the
renderer from xine to gstreamer via the Options menu (Closes: #466337).
  * debian/patches/90_disable_iheartmiro_nag.patch: Added. This disables
the annoying nag screen to download and install the iHeartMiro Firefox
plugin. For a manual installation see http://www.iheartmiro.org/.
  * Force xine to be = 1.1.12 to get all the latest security fixes.
  * Force xulrunner to be = 1.8.1.13 to get all the latest security fixes.
  * Add dependency on libxine1-plugins (thus also on libxine1-ffmpeg), as
we really want to be able to play all formats.
  * Install xine_extractor into /usr/lib/miro, not /usr/libexec.

miro (1.1.2-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Provide real transitional packages for democracyplayer - miro upgrades.
  * Enforce dependency on xulrunner = 1.8.1.12-2 so we get all the recent
security fixes in xulrunner, plus GNU/Hurd and GNU/kFreeBSD support.
  * Closing some more bugs I cannot reproduce in this version, in order to
allow miro to transition to testing. If you still see the same problems
in the latest release, please reopen as non-RC bugs. Having a version in
testing which works for most people is better than no version at all.
+ miro crashes when done playing a video (Closes: #464862).
+ miro crashes on playing a video or audio podcast (Closes: #462706).
  * Finish transition of debian/copyright to machine-readable format.
  * debian/patches/70_rdfa_silence_lintian.patch: Silence lintian.

miro (1.1.2-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Add missing build-dependencies on ssl-dev, libboost-filesystem-dev,
libboost-thread-dev, libboost-serialization-dev, and

[Bug 242078] [NEW] Keytouchd-launch won't quit when the session is closed

2008-06-22 Thread Excelsior
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: keytouch

I installed keytouch on a clean Hardy.
I had saved my former /home mountpoint before installing and copied it in my
new installation. This folder was containing a .keytouch folder.

If I was deleting the .keytouch folder, then I could restart or halt my
computer with X without any troubles.
When I re-configured keytouch, the problem appeared again and my computer was
stuck on the Gnome wallpaper when I wanted to restart the computer.

I had to kill manually keytouchd-launcher to let it go.

Then, I edited /etc/X11/Xsession.d/55keytouchd_launch and replaced the line
KEYTOUCHLAUNCH=/usr/bin/keytouchd-launch
by
KEYTOUCHLAUNCH=/usr/bin/keytouchd-launch --exit-with-session

Now, keytouchd don't cause me any troubles.

[Bug 98946] Re: i was playing prboom when x freeze

2008-06-22 Thread Yfrwlf
The two above fixes by Reinhard and Sergey work great, and I can
definitely verify this bug as it's still in Hardy even, using Prboom
2.4.7+dfsg-2. It would be really neat if some nice solution to the
Linux midi sound situation could be found. So far I've never seen
hardware midi working correctly out of the box, it always needs
elaborate tweaking and such. I'm sure it's low priority, since there's
not a lot of midi around now days, but it'd be neat if Pulse Audio could
offer midi playback for any applications that wanted it. No clue how
difficult that would be though or practical. Midi soundfont banks are
fairly sizable...freepats weighs in at 29 MBs. Any way, that might be
one permanent fix...

The other would be to fix prboom from crashing due to a lack of a midi
sound server. :)

Or just stop using midi in programs, tho I'm weird and I like midi. :P

[Bug 242079] [NEW] REGRESSION: gtk_file_chooser_get_filename returns a basename instead of a path

2008-06-22 Thread Kjell Braden
Public bug reported:

The gtk_file_chooser_get_filename function returned an absolute path in
version 2.12.10-2ubuntu1 and before.

This changed with 2.13.3-0ubuntu1, it now returns the basename (see also
revision 20342 [1]). This seems to have been unintentional, because it
was changed back with revision 20393 [2].

As you probably can imagine, this breaks quite some applications (I
noticed it with aptoncd, ccsm, gdecrypt, but I believe there a many
more).

I had it and solved the problem by editing
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/55keytouchd_launch and replacing the line
KEYTOUCHLAUNCH=/usr/bin/keytouchd-launch
by
KEYTOUCHLAUNCH=/usr/bin/keytouchd-launch --exit-with-session
