[Bug 232364] Re: dbus-launch hangs at session start waiting on socket output in libxcb
I had thought that dbus --auto-launch was launched by dbus --sh-syntax --exit-with-session but after reading the man page, I realized that it only occurs when something tries to access dbus and there is no session bus already started. A quick check showed that gnome-screensaver which is launched just shortly before dbus --sh-syntax --exit-with-session depends on dbus which lead me to hypothesis that the race is between the two dbus-launch processes caused by the libxcb issues. After moving dbus-launch before gnome-screensaver, I'm happy to report that it doesn't appear to hang anymore. Although this does not prove that it is fixed (since the issue is intermittent and I may have just gotten lucky) and it definitely doesn't fix the libxcb problems, I'm going to upload my changes to Intrepid right away as I'd like it to be shipped with first alpha of Intrepid. I'll begin working on an SRU tomorrow after getting more feedback and doing more tests provided the issue doesn't come back. :) ** Changed in: xfce4-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Critical Assignee: (unassigned) = Cody A.W. [Bug 242056] [NEW] Mplayer in Ubuntu repos isn't compiled with joystick support
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mplayer In a prior release, I could use my joystick with mplayer to control play/pause, volume etc. At some point, this stopped working. Worst thing is it fails silently, you don't get any message like couldn't find /dev/input/js0, joystick support disabled, etc. It just doesn't work. I dug around and found out that mplayer doesn't compile joystick support by default, it must be enabled with the --enable-joystick argument for ./configure. I compiled myself with this option and it works perfectly now. Is there any intentional reason the version of mplayer in the Ubuntu repos (Gutsy, Hardy) isn't compiled with it? I can't find any reason for it on the mplayer mailing list, so if this is low-risk it'd be nice if it were fixed in Ubuntu's versions. ** Affects: mplayer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Mplayer in Ubuntu repos isn't compiled with joystick support https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/242056 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 194638] Re: Compiz gets into a state where going fullscreen in apps causes an X11 BadAlloc error
Happened again today, except this time the bug occurred whenever the video WASN'T in fullscreen mode. I got backtraces for both Totem and MPlayer; they are attached. They don't really say much though, basically just that the program gave a frame to the X server and got back this error. At the time the bug happened, I was only using 75% RAM and 5% of SWAP. After getting the backtraces, I noticed that I had about a dozen instances of SMPlayer open (probably due to a stuck shortcut key that opened too many). After closing them, the bug went away, even though my RAM usage had barely changed (75% - 72%). Then I tried opening a dozen instances of SMPlayer again (- 78% RAM usage) and the bug came back. Perhaps the problem is that X and/or Compiz reserves video memory for each app that might need it, even when they haven't asked for it? But that the memory for fullscreen mode is shared? Though that wouldn't explain the original situation where the bug happens in fullscreen mode ... ** Attachment added: gdb-gmplayer.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15507381/gdb-gmplayer.txt -- Compiz gets into a state where going fullscreen in apps causes an X11 BadAlloc error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194638 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

As I wrote in my original description of the failure I sometimes (but not always - hence the edit of this ticket) get a message box down right on the screen when resuming from hibernation. It's been blank so far but this morning I could read it for the first time. It says Sleep problem Your computer failed to hibernate. Check the help file for common problems. It seems to me thought that the hibernation worked fine. And this time I even got a visible password input dialog. That happens every 10:th time or so. /Arto PS. [Bug 242071] [NEW] Network Connection fails although Network Manager shows connected
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Sometimes (not always) at startup the ethernet connection does not establish. Network-manager shows connected, but all the IP addresses are 0.0.0.0 (in Verbindungsinformationen). Network manager does not react on plug-off / plug-in of the ethernet cable, in these cases. I found no way to connect then, except of restarting the PC (sometimes 3x) until the connection works after start-up. What should happen: Every time I start the computer, it connects to the ethernet. If the ethernet cable is plugged off, network manager applet shows a connection failed. If I plug in the cable, network manager establishes an ethernet connecion. What happens: If I start the computer, it does not connect to ethernet. If the ethernet cable is plugged off, network manager shows a connection active, but connection is not working. If I plug in the cable, network manager does not do anything, connection is not working. Hint: Probably it has to do with the Programs that are loaded at start-up: Since I Installed xscreensaver and load it at start up, the problem appears much more often (about every second time). Before it appeared maybe once a week. My system Ubuntu 8.04: Linux system 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 4 16:35:01 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux I had the same problem in KDE in Kubuntu 7.10. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Network Connection fails although Network Manager shows connected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/242071 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Still happening with vmlinuz-2.6.24-19-generic. One thing I've just noticed, printk() output in dmesg has a timestamp at the start of the line. [Bug 35316] Re: these windows do not support save current setup message questionable
hmmm... June 2008, and this issue is still present. Will it ever be resolved upstream? Anyway, I think this has some importance. Especially since I am left currently with no viable option. In my case, I am using stalonetray. It works quite well and I don't want to part with it. After receiving this message, I tried a simple killall stalonetray and saving the session. I also disabled the stalonetray entry in the current session tab and unticked the stalonetray box in the Startup Programs tab. At first, I was happy. Saving the session and logging out did not prompt that warning. So I reanabled it and made sure NOT to press the save-session button... No dice, once I try to logout, the message is there again... Although I never told it to try to save the session... This is most annoying. I do hope it gets some attention... In the mean time, anybody knows a noob-friendly work-around or a way to fix this issue. (even if it just makes it silent, that'll be fine. [Bug 48263] Re: [regression] Wired ethernet (VIA VT6102 Rhine II) and Wireless (RaLink 2500) no longer work under 6.06 (needs acpi=noirq blacklisting)
I can confirm this bug is still active after upgrading to Hardy. [Bug 242078] [NEW] Keytouchd-launch won't quit when the session is closed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: keytouch I installed keytouch on a clean Hardy. I had saved my former /home mountpoint before installing and copied it in my new installation. This folder was containing a .keytouch folder. If I was deleting the .keytouch folder, then I could restart or halt my computer with X without any troubles. When I re-configured keytouch, the problem appeared again and my computer was stuck on the Gnome wallpaper when I wanted to restart the computer. I had to kill manually keytouchd-launcher to let it go. Then, I edited /etc/X11/Xsession.d/55keytouchd_launch and replaced the line KEYTOUCHLAUNCH=/usr/bin/keytouchd-launch by KEYTOUCHLAUNCH=/usr/bin/keytouchd-launch --exit-with-session Now, keytouchd don't cause me any troubles. [Bug 98946] Re: i was playing prboom when x freeze
The two above fixes by Reinhard and Sergey work great, and I can definitely verify this bug as it's still in Hardy even, using Prboom 2.4.7+dfsg-2. It would be really neat if some nice solution to the Linux midi sound situation could be found. So far I've never seen hardware midi working correctly out of the box, it always needs elaborate tweaking and such. I'm sure it's low priority, since there's not a lot of midi around now days, but it'd be neat if Pulse Audio could offer midi playback for any applications that wanted it. No clue how difficult that would be though or practical. Midi soundfont banks are fairly sizable...freepats weighs in at 29 MBs. Any way, that might be one permanent fix... The other would be to fix prboom from crashing due to a lack of a midi sound server. :) Or just stop using midi in programs, tho I'm weird and I like midi. :P -- i was playing prboom when x freeze https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/98946 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 242079] [NEW] REGRESSION: gtk_file_chooser_get_filename returns a basename instead of a path
Public bug reported: The gtk_file_chooser_get_filename function returned an absolute path in version 2.12.10-2ubuntu1 and before. This changed with 2.13.3-0ubuntu1, it now returns the basename (see also revision 20342 [1]). This seems to have been unintentional, because it was changed back with revision 20393 [2]. As you probably can imagine, this breaks quite some applications (I noticed it with aptoncd, ccsm, gdecrypt, but I believe there a many more).
