Not currently. My computer will not be available until the end of the summer
(I'm writing you back from work). Actually, by the end of september, I'll be
able to do it. Not before. Don't close the bug, I promise I'll set a
reminder and do it :)

[Bug 257508] [NEW] [sync-request] Please sync bluemindo 0.2.1-1 from Debian unstable

2008-08-12 Thread Aanjhan Ranganathan
Public bug reported:

There is new software bluemindo on Debian unstable. It is a python based
music player. Small yet powerful. It will be nice to have it in Ubuntu.

Builds fine on Intrepid pbuilder.

Debian PTS: http://packages.qa.debian.org/b/bluemindo.html

Brief Package Description:
A really simple but powerful audio player in Python/PyGTK, using Gstreamer.

Bluemindo is a really simple but powerful audio player in Python/PyGTK, using
Gstreamer.
Bluemindo is a free (as in freedom) software, released under GPLv3, only.

It can downloads albums or artists pictures and lyrics as doing desktop
notifications or sending music to your Last.fm profile or on your Jabber
account (via PEP).
Also, you can choose the view: lightweight, basic, normal or full.

[Bug 231075] Re: update-manager fails - requires at least kernel version 2.6.17

2008-08-12 Thread Joachim Durchholz
I found out another detail:
  update-initramfs -u -k 2.6.24-19-server
will work without an error message; it is
  update-initramfs -u -k 2.6.15-52-server
that will fail with the udev hook script message. So the udev message is just
misleading about which kernel it is talking about (kernel being updated instead
of running kernel).

So I suggest changing the message
udev hook script requires at least kernel version 2.6.17
to
udev hook script cannot process kernels before version 2.6.17

What remains to be checked is whether the boot machinery is in a usable state
in the current situation. If yes, the error can be downgraded to a warning, and
a message as in
The kernel was not changed and should still be usable
could be issued.
If no, the message should be
The kernel is not bootable anymore. However, a new kernel is being installed
and *should* be bootable. You can uninstall the old kernel(s).

[Bug 253332] Re: networking disable after resuming from hibernate

2008-08-12 Thread Hurin
Hello, I recently realized that while in Ubuntu, my CPU fan will stop for
several minutes.
I see through the case how the blades receive little pulses and moves a bit but
it doesn't spin!
After a while it turns on again
I don't experience this while in Windows for 2 or 3 hours
Wondering if this should be a bug by itself or if it related to hibernation
problems
I've read around that many laptops have similar problems after hibernate

What is the next step on this troubleshooting?

[Bug 255743] Re: Please merge cedet-1.0pre4(universe) from debian unstable

2008-08-12 Thread Bhavani Shankar
Explanatiion of why ubuntu changes can be dropped:

Debian has incorporated all the changes ion ubuntu so ubuntu changes can
be dropped.

Changelog since the previous ubuntu version:

 cedet (1:1.0pre4-3) unstable; urgency=low

   * debian/control:
 - Remove dpatch Build-Depends.
 - Add VCS-Browser and VCS-Git fields.
 - Bump Standards-Version to 3.7.3.
 - Bump dependencies so that we force the new semantic package to build
   properly (Closes: #412015).
   * debian/copyright:
 - Add copyright notices to silence lintian.
   * debian/eieio.examples:
 - Remove linemark.el.
   * debian/*.emacsen-(install|remove):
 - Use /usr/share/info rather than /usr/info.
   * debian/*-install.el:
 - List explicit paths to add to the load path while compiling, and
prohibit Debian's normal load files from starting. This should
prevent problems like loading a new version of the semantic package
without first loading the packages that it depends on. It should
help to future-proof us against bug reports to this effect. It will
also provide a slight speed boost during compilation, and prohibits
3rd-party packages from messing up our build
   (Closes: #484667, #440893).
   * debian/patches:
 - Manage this using git.
   * debian/rules:
 - Remove use of dpatch in favor of a simple patch invocations.
 - Add "genpatches" command for the maintainer to call to generate the
   contents of debian/patches.
 - Fix lintian warning about binary-arch.
 - Don't remove linemark.el from /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/eieio, at
   request of Étienne BERSAC.
   * debian/semantic.emacsen-install:
 - Don't compile semantic-example.el, since emacs-snapshot has issues
   with it.

[Bug 257499] [NEW] Transmission ignores adding torrents in 50% cases

2008-08-12 Thread Roman Polach
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

When transmission is already running and downloading,
and I click to .torrent file in firefox - e.g.
ubuntu-8.04.1-alternate-i386.iso.torrent
on http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.04/
(and confirm "Open by Transmission" instead of "Save")
in 50% cases nothing happened.
When I click the same file again (and again confirm "Open" in firefox),
it finally displays "Add torrent" dialog.
If not, the third try would probably help then..

[Bug 227214] Re: many apps randomly lose focus

2008-08-12 Thread Adam Smith
Thanks for your response. I was beginning to feel abandoned, and this
one's way beyond my ability to fix.

I tried working with mwm. I found that exactly every 30 seconds the
screen would black out, much like if you leave the computer alone for
too long. And I just verfied that under Gnome I'm losing focus at
exactly every 30 seconds. The only fix I have is to totally reboot my
system, and then I get a couple of hours of everything working as it
should.

[Bug 257408] Re: CSS works improperly

2008-08-12 Thread Peter Belew
I tried the above instructions regarding zoom settings on 3 different
computers, with different displays, running different display
resolutions.

I was unable to zoom to a state where the bug does not appear, trying
all possible zoom settings, using the menu, Ctrl+0, Ctrl++, Ctrl+-, etc.

With any zoom setting, the graphics shows in an incorrect position as
shown in the screen capture .png image attached that I attached earlier.

[Bug 230401] Re: Xubuntu doesn't recognize 3Com's 3C905B-TX 10/100 Ethernet card

2008-08-12 Thread Toni Helenius
I haven't got access to the computer as it was "impossible" to get it
work by editing modules the way I was instructed by "google". The
general 3C9xxx kernel driver didn't work. But it was Xubuntu Hardy that
I had installed there (I will try again when I regain a HDD to the
computer). Previously the computer had Kubuntu Edgy, and the network
adapter worked.

[Bug 249400] Re: evince automatically interpolates embedded PostScript and PDF images

2008-08-12 Thread Tom Davidson
At bug 199916, this is also shown to be true for the 'Interpolate' flag
for images in PDF files. Marked the older bug a dupe since this one had
already been triaged.

Also added upstream bug. This has been reported to evince since Feb
2006, ( http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=331781 ) and to
Poppler since Feb 2007. It's really a show-stopper for PDFs containing
scientific figures, which often use very large pixels to represent
discrete values in 2D plots.

[Bug 226956] Re: System Settings -> Monitor & display in Kubuntu shows wrong information

I did it on a desktop computer with Kubuntu Hardy this time. It has C2D,
GeForce 7900GS @ 1600x1200 and also jockey generated xorg.conf. And the
symptoms are the same, "displayconfig" shows 640x480 and NV instead of
NVIDIA and 1600x1200.

However the displayconfig didn't give any output.

[Bug 257495] [NEW] TPCButton preference not respected for eraser devices

2008-08-12 Thread Dave Ahlswede
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wacom-tools

The Windows XP Wacom driver makes both the stylus end and eraser end of
a pen respect the TPCButton setting (which makes it so you have to hold
down the rocker switch and tap to get a middle or right click, instead
of merely pressing the rocker switch), whereas the Xorg driver only
recognizes it for the stylus end.

The fix for this seems to be a trivial one-liner, and i'm attaching a
patch that works on my system.

[Bug 192888] Re: firefox crashes on flash contents when using libflashsupport

2008-08-12 Thread Conn
Alexander Jones: I have updated the description of the bug, hopefully
things are clearer now.

Alfredo & alecwh: nope, that won't work. Flash 10 does not exist in any
of the Hardy repositories as of today, as it was reverted to Flash 9
(you'd notice if you looked closely at the version:
10.0.1.218+10.0.0.525ubuntu1~hardy1+really9.0.124.0ubuntu2).

An unofficial fix is to use the settings in bug #198453, ensure
libflashsupport is not installed and install flashplugin-nonfree,
libasound2 and libasound2-plugins from the Intrepid repository. That can
cause problems, naturally, but in practice it should work. It's more
complicated for 64bit users.

[Bug 192888] Re: firefox crashes on flash contents when using libflashsupport

2008-08-12 Thread Conn
** Description changed:

  Testcase:

use pulseaudio and libflashsupport together with flashplugin-nonfree in
  firefox.

  1. navigate to youtube video
  2. wait till sound plays
  3. hit back button
  4. hit forward
  5. goto 2 if not yet crashed.

the crash sometimes happens after 2 iterations ... and i can't remember
  that i ever made 10 :) ...

  =

Tested on two machines both with gutsy and hardy (on 32 bit x86): flash
content very often crashes firefox (both of firefox-3.0 in hardy and
older versions). I've just tried with other browsers, epiphany-browser
crashes as well, and even konqueror from KDE (though it's not crashing
at a whole, since it may run flash and other plugins as another user or
something similar - I think at least - but it reports the crash of
flash). I don't know exactly the package I should report this against,
but as far as I can remember this issue presents since I started to play
with pulseaudio: there is a wrapper lib to allow flash to play sound via
PA right, so it CAN BE caused by this single issue instead of problem of
the browser or the flash plugin itself?

  =
  Workaround for early Hardy adopters:

Manually uninstall the libflashsupport via 'apt-get remove
libflashsupport' or synaptic. This is necessary because libflashsupport
would not automatically be removed by update-manager when it was changed
from a dependent package to a recommended package during the Hardy
  development cycle.
+
+ =
+ Update 13/8/08: Hopefully this summary can help clarify the situation and
help get this bug fixed!
+
+ Since the release of Flash 9, ALSA is the only audio output method
+ supported by Flash (as opposed to earlier releases which had OSS and ESD
+ support built-in). However, to aid with backwards-compatibility, Adobe
+ have provided a simple API to support other audio (and secure
+ transaction) schemes, which can be exposed by using the
+ "libflashsupport" code. You can view the original implementation on
+ Adobe's wiki page, which extends OSS and ESD output to Flash 9:
+
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Flash_Player:Additional_Interface_Support_for_Linux
+
+ The version of libflashsupport used in Ubuntu (and most recent
+ distributions that use PulseAudio) is different to the above, as it has
+ been extended to support PulseAudio. You can see the relevant upstream
+ wiki, with a description and link to the git repository:
+
+ The problem that users are experiencing in this bug is that Flash
+ becomes unstable when the libflashsupport API is used; both the original
+ OSS/ESD implementation provided by Adobe and the version adapted for
+ PulseAudio exhibit this instability. The source of the problem is within
+ Flash itself and it is not due to a bug in the modified libflashsupport
+ code. See this PulseAudio bug report:
+
+ So what can we do? We can drop libflashsupport entirely and use a better
+ method to enable PulseAudio support in Flash (and all ALSA applications,
+ in fact). PulseAudio provides ALSA plugins that enable most ALSA
+ applications to have PulseAudio support. Unfortunately, Ubuntu is one of
+ the few distributions that did not configure PulseAudio completely and
+ thus ALSA applications completely bypass PulseAudio, causing mixing
+ conflicts. This issue is reported on bug #198453 and you can read the
+ FAQ at the following link for a summary of the problem here:
+
+ If we remove libflashsupport and fix bug #198453, there's "good news"
+ and "bad news" with regards to Flash:
+
+ The bad news: Flash 9 still won't work (due to Flash 9's erroneous
+ reliance on snd_async_add_pcm_handler() which causes problems with the
+ PulseAudio ALSA plugin). See the PulseAudio developer's comment on Flash
+ 9 here: https://tango.0pointer.de/pipermail/pulseaudio-
+ discuss/2008-May/001796.html
+
+ The good news: the snd_async_add_pcm_handler() issue is fixed in Flash
+ 10 (since beta 1). Essentially, Flash 10 is 100% PulseAudio compatible
+ when using the proper configuration of bug #198453.
+
+ In summary, the solution to this bug:
+ 1. Upgrade to Flash 10 (at release candidate status as of 13/8)
+ 2. Drop libflashsupport completely (it causes instability in Flash 9 and 10)
+ 3. Fix bug #198453
+
+ This bug is a trivial fix for Intrepid (and should have been fixed a
+ long time ago, to give PulseAudio time for testing). It is also possible
+ to fix in Hardy, as long as the prerequisites of bug #198453 can be
+ fulfilled whilst keeping the SRU policy for an LTS release in mind.
+ Either way, *something needs to be done*.

[Bug 58247] Re: ipw3945 not coming up after second suspend

2008-08-12 Thread xandr55
not sure if this helps any, but on a fresh install of Gutsy, on Dell
Inspiron 5100, no wired network connects correctly after a hibernate. I
tried adding STOP_SERVICES="networking" to the /etc/default/acpi-support
as in bug #69426, with no luck... only a restart seems to get it to work
correctly.

[Bug 183917] Re: Sound stops working in Firefox once other applications (Pidgin, Rhythmbox) have played sound

2008-08-12 Thread Parthan
As you have installed libflashsupport, sound should now work when sound
is played in both a media player as well as from Firefox. If you have
problem, it might be the sound server. Please try out ALSA or ESD for
the Music and Movies option in Sound Preferences.

[Bug 184762] Re: slow copy files to flash disk (multiple files - in multiple nautilus windows)

2008-08-12 Thread lordmule
I have a Corsair Flash Voyager 16G and I have about 2G of pdf to move
about. My home machine is Intrepid alpha 3 and I get about 4MB/s. On my
Hardy Heron at work I get about 20MB/s, in windows I can reach roughly
26-30MB/s.

it is a FAT32 partition, and I do have multiple windows open. I'll work
on reproducing the transfer with time and cp on the intrepid box.

[Bug 257488] Re: make doesn't recurse through symlinks correctly

2008-08-12 Thread Philip Ashmore
You need to add the "-w" flag to make from a top-level make invocation to see
the message.
Make enables this behaviour itself for recursive makes.

[Bug 239917] Re: [intrepid] emacs windows don ’t display after compiz 0.7.6 upgrade

2008-08-12 Thread Ben Aisen
For me, emacs displays, but the text in the window becomes garbled while
scrolling or i-searching. Mucking with X resources only makes it not
display at all sometimes.

Meanwhile it works fine in metacity, so it's definitely a compiz
problem.

[Bug 257486] [NEW] No sound in GNOME

2008-08-12 Thread Gordon
Public bug reported:

I have installed Ubuntu on my 3 other computer with no problem. However
when I install it to my DSE Scoop 2400 (it has A7S8X-MX motherboard with
SiS SI7012 sound card), there is no sound when I play any music or
video.

I try Fedora, it has the same problem. I try Mandriva Spring 2008, it
has no problem with sound. I try Debian, it work fine as well.

Because I like Ubuntu so much that I finally try Kubuntu - I suspect KDE
may work with my sound card - and it works. The only problem is that it
cannot display chinese from the files in my flash drive. I install GNOME
desktop package and logon with GNOME session, Firefox can play youtube
with sound. When I logon again in KDE seesion, it can display chinese on
my flash drive.

Finally I fix the problem by installing Ubuntu first and then install
KDE desktop. I still cannot get any sound if I play music and video in
Gnome session but everything work fine in KDE session including chinese
display.

I love Gnome and hope that you can fix this problem.
