[Bug 259110] Re: Samba NT_STATUS_PASSWORD_MUST_CHANGE bug
Hi, Thanks for the bug report. This looks like a good candidate for an SRU. Impact: LDAP schemas for samba that contains no password expiry information gets a NT_STATUS_PASSWORD_MUST_CHANGE error on machine account logon. From upstream: The net_rpc_join.c code uses a level 24 to set the password when we are joining a Samba PDC. Inside smbd we don't update the password last set field from zero on level 24, only level 25. Thus the password last set is left at zero on a join and subsequent auth attempts on the machine account fail with a NT_STATUS_PASSWORD_MUST_CHANGE error. I've reproduced this on 3.0.x but I think the same code is in 3.2 and this is a blocker bug for 3.2.0. https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id= How to reproduce: See above. [Bug 259844] [NEW] Samba share permissions not migrated to Intrepid, not working?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba Before migrating to Intrepid, had a windows share connected, both via /etc/fstab, (as a cifs volume) for use with all apps, and as a Samba share, (with login info stored in the Keyring) for use in Places. In Intrepid, the /etc/fstab version still works, but the Samba share no longer does - i.e. I can see it, can try to connect to it, at which point it shows up on my desktop, (as it did with Hardy - was always a little flukey there, as well - only showed up on my desktop when I actively tried to connect to it rather than all the time) and then prompts me for login credentials to the Windows box. First glitch is that I would have expected the Hardy settings to be migrated over to Intrepid, so it would just work. 2nd glitch is that when I enter the appropriate credentials, it just keeps bouncing back at me and not connecting, (i.e. as if I had entered incorrect credentials, though I'm almost positive I'm entering the correct ones - only possible weirdness is that the Windows username is 2 words, but have tried with no quotes, single quotes and double quotes, none of which work). ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Samba share permissions not migrated to Intrepid, not working? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259844 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 257411] Re: mount.cifs ignores iocharset even specified
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve Ubuntu. According to the mount.cifs(8) manpage, the 'iocharset' option is only used when the server supports Unicode. The references I've found on the Internet confirm my distant memory that Samba 2.2 did not support Unicode on the wire, which means that the kernel cifs driver will not translate these filenames for you. I'm marking this bug as 'triaged', but I'm afraid it's unlikely to receive attention, since only very old servers (Win9x, and Samba 2.2 or earlier) don't support Unicode on the wire and a considerable amount of additional code would be required to handle charset translations in the non-Unicode case. FWIW, the next release of Fedora will have the same problem, since the old smbfs kernel driver has been deprecated across the board; so I regretfully suggest that you upgrade your Samba server. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low Status: New = Triaged -- mount.cifs ignores iocharset even specified https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/257411 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 204578] Re: 2.6.24.12 won't boot with em28xx device
I have gone through several iterations of loading ubuntu's 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP and using Markus' http://mcentral.de/empia/20080804/empia-hardy-generic-i386-latest.deb package. From experience mixing v4l from any of the howtos on the linuxtv site or at mcentral yield a non-functioning video setup; neither scan, kaffeine, nor analog tvtime work. The best I have done is get tvtime to work with sox and Markus' driver package above with a clean load of 2.6.24-19-generic. The best way I have found to get back to a working configuration is to boot an alternative kernel (I always have a spare :), remove the non- functioning kernel packages (and rm lefotvers if needed), then re- install the packages again. Time consuming, but guaranteed results. The v4l Makefile has a remove, which along with reinstalling Markus' .deb package should work (followed by a depmod -a), but I prefer a clean slate. I woud like to know how to get ATSC in the states working on the HVR-950; ubuntu's scan (dvbscan) and w_can do not seem to work,, although the /dev/dvb files are there. [Bug 259649] [NEW] neutrality
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: anarchism when reading this package it crashes my mind after looping around some quotes. For example (...) (i.e. there are far more anarchists than anarcho-capitalists). (..) I'm not objecting the content, however the quote's around anarcho are misleading since the reader might think that anarco-capitalism isn't anarchism which is totally wrong. I'm also missing sources and academically this text is a total 6mb of waste. For example the part where economics are being rejected.. I'm posting it here but I know the ubuntu QA-team isn't responsible for the content of this package. I'll contact the author when time will be on my side. [Bug 259648] Re: totem movie player crashes when seeking between movies and audio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Oh, I should read the docs more carefully if I point someone there. You are right and you do not have to try them. Did you used a hyphen or an an equal sign? In the bug report you wrote acpi-off, but if you want to use it as parameter you have to use acpi=off. But probably it is an not an ACPI problem. The error message talked about APIC (Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller) and not ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Management Interface). [Bug 134682] Re: [Tribe5] user don't know where are his pdf file
I have solved this problem on hardy writing a simple server in python that I added to my session autostart list, then i have modified cups-pdf which now, after reading the configuration file, connect to the server sending him the path to the output file. The server create and present the user a file save dialog pointing at that path and the user can simply save there or choose another output file. The dialog ask confirmation if the file already exists. The server sends back to cups- pdf the chosen path which is used as the destination file. If the server is not active cups-pdf simply use the directory in the configuration file as destination. The server default port is 5, but can be passed as first parameter to the program, the client also try to connect to the 5 as default but the port can be changed in cups-pdf.conf adding the key FileChooserPort. The server accept connections only from 127.0.0.1 and only from one client at a time. I think dbus should be used for this task but for me was simpler to implement a tcp server. If this solution is acceptable for someone else i can attach the code and instructions to build and install. -- [Tribe5] user don't know where are his pdf file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134682 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61235] Re: USB mass storage stops working after a while
I already built the disk of one of my external USB drive directly into my PC (connected via SATA now) and gave the enclosure to a friend. The other USB disk I have is still external, but I had never problems with it. So could it be possible that the problem depends on the actual USB-to{PATA,SATA,flash} chipset used in the external storage device? If so, I could test several external hard drives from different vendors at work with my laptop (i855GM chipset), and we could invite others to to the same, and build a compatibility matrix out of e.g. USB-ID,PC-chipset, USB controller, USB drive chipset, attached drive model and kernel version. Of course there must be a way to determine the USB drive chipset without opening the enclosure (and thus voiding warranty). If there is enough test data, also hardware defects (defective USB chipset, broken cables, etc.) could be ruled out. -- USB mass storage stops working after a while https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/61235 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
