[Bug 259110] Re: Samba NT_STATUS_PASSWORD_MUST_CHANGE bug

2008-08-20 Thread Chuck Short
Hi,

Thanks for the bug report. This looks like a good candidate for an SRU.

Impact: LDAP schemas for samba that contains no password expiry
information gets a NT_STATUS_PASSWORD_MUST_CHANGE error on machine
account logon. From upstream:

The net_rpc_join.c code uses a level 24 to set the password when we
are joining a Samba PDC. Inside smbd we don't update the password last set
field from zero on level 24, only level 25. Thus the password last set is left
at zero on a join and subsequent auth attempts on the machine account fail with
a NT_STATUS_PASSWORD_MUST_CHANGE error.

I've reproduced this on 3.0.x but I think the same code is in 3.2 and this is a
blocker bug for 3.2.0.

https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=

How to reproduce:

See above.

I have attached the patch which fixes this issue. If you have any
questions please feel free to ask.

Regards
chuck

[Bug 259844] [NEW] Samba share permissions not migrated to Intrepid, not working?

2008-08-20 Thread Dylan Hunter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Before migrating to Intrepid, had a windows share connected, both via
/etc/fstab, (as a cifs volume) for use with all apps, and as a Samba
share, (with login info stored in the Keyring) for use in Places. In
Intrepid, the /etc/fstab version still works, but the Samba share no
longer does - i.e. I can see it, can try to connect to it, at which
point it shows up on my desktop, (as it did with Hardy - was always a
little flukey there, as well - only showed up on my desktop when I
actively tried to connect to it rather than all the time) and then
prompts me for login credentials to the Windows box. First glitch is
that I would have expected the Hardy settings to be migrated over to
Intrepid, so it would just work. 2nd glitch is that when I enter the
appropriate credentials, it just keeps bouncing back at me and not
connecting, (i.e. as if I had entered incorrect credentials, though I'm
almost positive I'm entering the correct ones - only possible weirdness
is that the Windows username is 2 words, but have tried with no quotes,
single quotes and double quotes, none of which work).

I don't think I have the problem on login, but I certainly do on

Just migrated up to Intrepid, and the problem's still here.

[Bug 257411] Re: mount.cifs ignores iocharset even specified

2008-08-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve
Ubuntu.

According to the mount.cifs(8) manpage, the 'iocharset' option is only
used when the server supports Unicode. The references I've found on the
Internet confirm my distant memory that Samba 2.2 did not support
Unicode on the wire, which means that the kernel cifs driver will not
translate these filenames for you.

I'm marking this bug as 'triaged', but I'm afraid it's unlikely to
receive attention, since only very old servers (Win9x, and Samba 2.2 or
earlier) don't support Unicode on the wire and a considerable amount of
additional code would be required to handle charset translations in the
non-Unicode case.

FWIW, the next release of Fedora will have the same problem, since the
old smbfs kernel driver has been deprecated across the board; so I
regretfully suggest that you upgrade your Samba server.

2008-08-20 Thread Steve Langasek
When you completely removed samba, did that include marking the samba-
common package for complete removal?

Several key files in /etc/samba are owned by the samba-common binary
package, not by the samba binary package; so removing these files
without also purging samba-common will not have the desired result.

[Bug 259630] Re: The default IP address does not ping . when i restart the machine it pings successfully but, only for a short period .

2008-08-20 Thread Stefano Maioli
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, , because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 204578] Re: 2.6.24.12 won't boot with em28xx device

2008-08-20 Thread DougM
I have gone through several iterations of loading ubuntu's
2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP and using Markus'
http://mcentral.de/empia/20080804/empia-hardy-generic-i386-latest.deb
package. From experience mixing v4l from any of the howtos on the
linuxtv site or at mcentral yield a non-functioning video setup; neither
scan, kaffeine, nor analog tvtime work.

The best I have done is get tvtime to work with sox and Markus' driver
package above with a clean load of 2.6.24-19-generic.

The best way I have found to get back to a working configuration is to
boot an alternative kernel (I always have a spare :), remove the non-
functioning kernel packages (and rm lefotvers if needed), then re-
install the packages again. Time consuming, but guaranteed results.

The v4l Makefile has a remove, which along with reinstalling Markus'
.deb package should work (followed by a depmod -a), but I prefer a clean
slate.

I woud like to know how to get ATSC in the states working on the HVR-950;
ubuntu's scan (dvbscan) and w_can do not seem to work,, although the /dev/dvb
files are there.
Response is:

# w_scan -a 0
w_scan version 20080105
-_-_-_-_ Getting frontend capabilities-_-_-_-_
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
ERROR: Sorry - i couldn't get any working frequency/transponder
 Nothing to scan!!
dumping lists (0 services)
Done.

Any thought on the dvb side would be appreciated. I would be happy to provide
detailed information. BTW;platform is EeePC 901.

[Bug 259649] [NEW] neutrality

2008-08-20 Thread Denis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: anarchism

when reading this package it crashes my mind after looping around some
quotes. For example

(...) (i.e. there are far more anarchists than anarcho-capitalists).
(..)

I'm not objecting the content, however the quote's around anarcho are
misleading since the reader might think that anarco-capitalism isn't
anarchism which is totally wrong.

I'm also missing sources and academically this text is a total 6mb of
waste. For example the part where economics are being rejected..

I'm posting it here but I know the ubuntu QA-team isn't responsible for
the content of this package. I'll contact the author when time will be
on my side.

Maybe for commercial purposes it's just better to remove this package
from the list? (it probably slipt in by syncing the debian repository?)

[Bug 259650] [NEW] firefox3 displays cyrillic characters instead of latin

2008-08-20 Thread Fredrik Fall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

A somewhat cryptic display bug. On some web pages containing english
text shown with regular latin characters, certain text is instead
displayed with cyrillic characters. If I look up the page source, it
contains regular english text, and all page properties are set for
displaying english text. On most pages this bug does not trigger, and
the page is displayed as intended.

Example

One page displayed in this way is http://www.phpundercontrol.org/about.html

Hello Andreas,

Yes this bug is still here in Ubuntu 8.04. In fact to my mind it has
gone backwards because I now sometimes get the standard You have just
pressed two keys together or--- etc. well after the first time after
not having done the accused deed. This action seemed to be cured
previously but has now come back.

I do not know if you are aware that sticky keys does not work at all
under WINE and the original bug is. I think, is also seen under all KDE
distros that I have tried.

Do not hesitate to contact me if I can help further.

[Bug 259648] Re: totem movie player crashes when seeking between movies and audio

2008-08-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 259656] [NEW] xendomains script error

2008-08-20 Thread Chris Smart
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xen-utils-3.2

Distro: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Package: xen-utils-3.2.0-0ubuntu10
Arch: AMD64

The xendomains init script appears to have two errors that spew out on
boot (although it does not stop guests from starting).

As of version 3.2.0-0ubuntu10 Lines 186 and 196 read:
 rest=`echo $1 | cut cut -d\  -f2-`
if test $id = 0; then continue; fi

They should possibly be:
 rest=`echo $1 | cut -d\  -f2-`
 if $id = 0; then continue; fi

Couldn't find this anywhere on the tracker, please don't shoot me :)

[Bug 259228] Re: Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex Alpha 3 4 32bit wont install

2008-08-20 Thread Benjamin Drung
Oh, I should read the docs more carefully if I point someone there. You
are right and you do not have to try them.

Did you used a hyphen or an an equal sign? In the bug report you wrote
acpi-off, but if you want to use it as parameter you have to use
acpi=off.

But probably it is an not an ACPI problem. The error message talked
about APIC (Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller) and not ACPI
(Advanced Configuration and Power Management Interface).

I have searched for your bug and found following possible solutions:

1) Boot with irqpoll parameter.

2) Boot with noapic parameter.

3) Try do deactivate IO-ACPI in the BIOS.

right, when you don't know if the bug is an upstream one report it to
the distributor, in this case the bug is clearly a GNOME choice and will
not be changed in a distribution specific way so either it's sent on

probably not get any change

2008-08-20 Thread Stefano Maioli
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please try to obtain a backtrace following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your
problem.
Please also indicate the versions of the packages you are using.

However, this bug may have been fixed in a later release of Ubuntu and
it's unlikely that the fix will be quickly ported to 7.10. It may be
easier for you to test azureus on Hardy or Intrepid. If testing on
Intrepid be sure to check this too:

Hi,

I've added the patch and built the linux-ubuntu-modules package - you
can download the packages from my PPA at: https://launchpad.net/~colin-
king/+archive

Add the following lines to your apt sources.list:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/colin-king/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/colin-king/ubuntu hardy main

alternatively, follow the instructions at: https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04
/add-applications/C/extra-repositories-adding.html

If you can test this package and let me know if it works, then I can add
it as a fix to as a SRU.

Thanks, Colin

[Bug 134682] Re: [Tribe5] user don't know where are his pdf file

2008-08-20 Thread flaviano petrocchi
I have solved this problem on hardy writing a simple server in python
that I added to my session autostart list, then i have modified cups-pdf
which now, after reading the configuration file, connect to the server
sending him the path to the output file. The server create and present
the user a file save dialog pointing at that path and the user can
simply save there or choose another output file. The dialog ask
confirmation if the file already exists. The server sends back to cups-
pdf the chosen path which is used as the destination file. If the server
is not active cups-pdf simply use the directory in the configuration
file as destination. The server default port is 5, but can be passed
as first parameter to the program, the client also try to connect to the
5 as default but the port can be changed in cups-pdf.conf adding the
key FileChooserPort. The server accept connections only from 127.0.0.1
and only from one client at a time. I think dbus should be used for this
task but for me was simpler to implement a tcp server. If this solution
is acceptable for someone else i can attach the code and instructions to
build and install.

[Bug 61235] Re: USB mass storage stops working after a while

2008-08-20 Thread Martin Emrich
I already built the disk of one of my external USB drive directly into
my PC (connected via SATA now) and gave the enclosure to a friend. The
other USB disk I have is still external, but I had never problems with
it.

So could it be possible that the problem depends on the actual
USB-to{PATA,SATA,flash} chipset used in the external storage device?
If so, I could test several external hard drives from different vendors at work
with my laptop (i855GM chipset), and we could invite others to to the same, and
build a compatibility matrix out of e.g. USB-ID,PC-chipset, USB controller,
USB drive chipset, attached drive model and kernel version. Of course there
must be a way to determine the USB drive chipset without opening the enclosure
(and thus voiding warranty). If there is enough test data, also hardware
defects (defective USB chipset, broken cables, etc.) could be ruled out.

[Bug 258161] Re: EmulateWheelButton doesn't work anymore on my Thinkpad X61s

2008-08-20 Thread Michael Fritscher
Yeah, there are ignored now. I think that we need to use .fdi-files now.
I tried to make a file /etc/hal/fdi/policy/mouse-wheel with

!-- http://mvogt.wordpress.com/2008/08/15/xorg-evdev-and-emulatewheel/ --
match key=info.product string=TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint
 merge key=input.x11_options.EmulateWheel type=stringtrue/merge
 merge key=input.x11_options.EmulateWheelButton type=string2/merge
 merge key=input.x11_options.ZAxsisMapping type=string4 5/merge
 merge key=input.x11_options.Emulate3Buttons type=stringtrue/merge
/match

but it did not work for me either.

[Bug 259659] [NEW] wacom tablet is choppy on my x61t

2008-08-20 Thread Michael Fritscher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

On Vista, it works fine.
But on Ubuntu, it only works partly if I run wacdump -f tpc /dev/ttyS0
parallel, but then its very choppy. if I exit wacdump it works for a few
seconds fine, but then it stops. I get sometimes parity errors, too.
Perhaps the driver can't handle them?
