  * Set Architecture field to all.

  [ Luca Falavigna ]
  * Implemented no-op upgrade and failed-upgrade targets to fix weird

[Bug 203574] Re: Eject should eject the CD-ROM drive tray

2008-10-06 Thread Claudio Satriano
Don't know if it helps, but I've noticed that if you connect to
localhost via ssh:

  ssh -X [EMAIL PROTECTED]

and then launch

  nautilus --no-desktop

1) NFS mounted directory appear on the sidebar (they do not appear normally),
along with the eject icon
2) The eject icon next to the cdrom drive does open the drive tray! However,
clicking it again does not close the tray :(

Still using Nautilus 1:2.24.0-0ubuntu1 on Intrepid beta.

[Bug 278946] Re: Please update to Mono 2.0

2008-10-06 Thread directhex
Sorry, but I can't support this.

Mono have a history for somewhat... unready... upstream releases, which
require extensive patching and testing before they're ready. 1.9.1 in
Intrepid already has 19 patches applied to it, and all of those would
require re-testing and re-auditing for 2.0 packages.

So close to Intrepid's release, I really don't think it's realistic to
put a MAJOR new upstream with a poor release quality history into the
default install of a stable version.

The pkg-mono team is actively working on Mono 2.0 for Debian, and I
think it would be foolish for Ubuntu to jump the gun with such a major,
major new release before it's been adequately tested and staged by the
active, cross-distro team at pkg-mono.

It'll definitely be in Jaunty though, and 2.0 packages for older
releases will appear in third party locations (such as my PPA) once
they're ready for human consumption.

[Bug 279033] [NEW] Apport reports, without a cause

2008-10-06 Thread Tuomas Aavikko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport

Up-to-date intrepid

while using applications, there is menu entry for reporting problems.
Just by clicking it, it sends the report without proper dialogs that would
allow the user
decide if he/she wants it to be sent forward.
Now you can just click cancel if you're fast enough. And/or close the browser
tab/window when launchpad has opened.

Steps to reproduce
Applications→Audio Video→Movie player
Just click the report a problem in the menus.

This ain't a bug, rather than usability issue.

  3. Check Key presses repeat when key is held down chekbox.
  4. Move the Delay rule to the very left (near to Short label).
- 5. Now, press and hold the arrow (cursor) keys. You can see that the up-arrow

[Bug 176888] Re: Backlight dimming not working in Hardy or Intrepid because of wrong XRandR BACKLIGHT_CONTROL setting

2008-10-06 Thread Michael Doube
This bug is still present in Intrepid Beta, where it is the only
impediment to flawless hotkey control of backlight on a Sony Vaio
SZ650N.

** Summary changed:

- xbacklight not working in hardy because of wrong XRandR BACKLIGHT_CONTROL
setting
+ Backlight dimming not working in Hardy or Intrepid because of wrong XRandR
BACKLIGHT_CONTROL setting

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: xbacklight
+ Backlight control on Hardy is dependent on xbacklight, for Sony Vaios
+ with Intel display adapters. In intrepid, backlight dimming does not
+ require xbacklight and Fn keys are properly mapped. In both scenarios
+ running the following command is necessary for the backlight to respond
+ to input.

- xbacklight worked as expected under Gutsy, but does not work at all
- under Hardy. Running xbacklight from the command line echoes what you
- last set the lcd brightness value to, but the brightness is not changed.
-
- running:
$ xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native

- from the command line fixes the problem.
+ Sony Vaio SZ650N, Intel GM965 / GMA X3100, 'intel' driver.

- Sony Vaio SZ650N, Intel GM965 / GMA X3100, 'intel' driver.
+ This bug has been duped and unduped a couple of times with no
+ improvement despite the mother-dupes being fixed, so I'm making it
+ independent again.

2008-10-06 Thread dmitry
My card is:
Device: 0b:00.0
Class: Network controller
Vendor: Atheros Communications Inc.
Device: AR5418 802.11abgn Wireless PCI Express Adapter
SVendor:Apple Computer Inc.
SDevice:Device 0087
Rev:01

OS: Intrepid/AMD64, 2.6.27-5.

When the router (Linksys WRT160N) operates in 'Mixed' mode (e.g. the
N-mode is enabled) the ath9k causes the system to freeze completely
after several seconds (sometimes after several minutes) of traffic
activity. I tried in both the wide-channel (40MHz) mode and standard
channel mode.

I cannot see any logging or crash reports. Keyboard leds are not working
so this is a hard lockup.

When the router operates in G-only mode the driver seems to work properly,
although I get in the syslog the following events:
ACPI: EC: GPE storm detected, disabling EC GPE
ACPI: EC: missing confirmations, switch off interrupt mode.

[Bug 278991] [NEW] Boots to busybox prompt after Intrepid beta update

2008-10-06 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

I did a dist-upgrade to 8.10 after the Beta release from my Hardy
machine. Everything (surprisingly) seemed to go fine - no installability
problems or anything like that. However, whenever I boot the machine I'm
now kicked to a Busybox prompt which complains about not being able to
find the disk by-uuid. The UUID it's looking for is correct, and
curiously typing exit at the prompt causes the system to resume
booting and thereafter function as normal.

2008-10-06 Thread Olivier Cortès
Hi,

on latest intrepid and vaio BZ11XN (X4500MHD) :
 - sudo /etc/acpi/sonybright.sh {up|down} works, but only after xrandr …
CONTROL=native
 - xbacklight works, with xrandr previously called too (but not without)
 - Fn-keys produce nothing for LCD (but work for sound), and I attached my acpi
debug info to bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi-support/+bug/251665 but I think
it was missed because the bug is fixed for original poster and not for me,

Many thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
 automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Once you have done this,
repeat the steps necessary to recreate the problem.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the
crash report you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
 /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash
in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to
 report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 273507] Re: No sound effects play when play sound effects when buttons are clicked is enabled

2008-10-06 Thread zombiepig
There's a newer version of libcanberra released which may fix this
problem. In 0.10 there's the option to use a gconf schema file to load
the gtk module, rather than the GTK_MODULES variable. This may fix this
bug. The full release notes for libcanberra 0.10 state:

This release includes a GConf schema file which can be used to
activate the libcanberra Gtk+ module more elegantly than via setting
$GTK_MODULES. Please note however that that will work only with very
new version of gnome-settings-daemon. In fact, with a version that is
so new it isn't even released yet! ;-)

This release also includes quite a few important fixes, so please make
sure to update. If you aren't shipping the new g-s-d version you can
safely drop the schema file from your distro package. It should be
safe to set GTK_MODULES and use the schema file in parallel. It might
even be wise for enabling input feedback sounds even in non-GNOME
sessions.

[Bug 279025] Re: Xrandr doesn't detect displays right over hdmi (intrepid beta)

2008-10-06 Thread junior
two desktops on my tv (don't know why it does this)

** Description changed:

- Intrepid doesn't always propose the correct resolution after reboot. It
- detects my 16:10 monitor as low resolution 4:3. Connect via VGA works
- fine. It's connected to a laptop with lower resolution, so I don't use
- the virtual size, always just one screen turned on at the time.
+ Bug1:
+ Intrepid doesn't always propose the correct resolution after reboot. It
detects my 16:10 monitor as low resolution 4:3. Connect via VGA works fine.
I've found a trick for getting xrandr to propose the right resolution, and that
is to connect a lcd-tv 32 to the computer, and have it detect that one.
Afterwards the monitor gets detected as a 16:10 screen.

- Intrepid gets stucked in a bad habit kind of way, and even when xrandr
- suggest the right resolution and the monitor is selected as sink, the
- screen's just black. I've tried to fix this a hundreds times restarting
- x, and running the screen resolution applet over and over again with
- same output. VGA connects correctly, and hdmi is detected and then
- proposed with right resolution, but still using that connection results
- in black screen.
+ Bug 2:
+ Intrepid gets stucked in a bad habit kind of way, and even when xrandr
suggest the right resolution and the monitor is selected as sink, the screen's
just black. I've tried to fix this a hundreds times restarting x, and running
the screen resolution applet over and over again with same output. VGA connects
correctly, but hdmi just gives a black screen. It just seems like luck when
xrandr will connect correctly through hdmi. I've notices though sometimes x
restarts/crashes (bug 6?) pushing Apply and sometimes not. When x restarts it
connects to my monitor, but it stays black, so I have no displays.

- I've found a workaround, and that's connecting my lcd-tv via hdmi, this
- one displays correctly, and then afterwards connecting the monitor, and
- then it shows up correctly.
+ Bug3:
+ The virtual resolution makes a big mess when using on a laptop witch
sometimes is used alone, sometimes on a tv or monitor, so I try to keep it away
from my xorg.conf.

- There's plenty of bugs with xrandr. The virtual resolution makes a big
- mess when using on a laptop witch sometimes is used alone, sometimes on
- a tv or monitor, so I try to keep it away from my xorg.conf. I've also
- noticed some bugs with the monitor identifier in the left corner of the
- screens, it sometimes shows up on completely wrong screen. (See attached
- screenshot, this one displays both on same screen, and I've got also one
- displaying that monitor is the laptop screen)
+ Bug4:
+ I've also noticed some bugs with the monitor identifier in the left corner of
the screens, it sometimes shows up on completely wrong screen. (See attached
screenshot, this one displays both on same screen, and I've got also one
displaying that monitor is the laptop screen)

- Also: X crashes (restarts) after pushing apply sometimes (often) in
- Screen Resolution.
+ Bug 5:
+ Sometimes x displays two displays on my tv (see attached screenshot). This is
with only output on the tv, and no virtual size (since it's only the tv)

[Bug 278658] Re: Dell Inspiron 1420 Stop playback hotkey not working

2008-10-06 Thread Harvey Muller
Thanks Mario. I won't add the Dell project to any additional Inspiron
1420 issues. I didn't realize the project policy was to only support
the release the laptop was shipped under.

Killing the gnome-settings-daemon did result in a KeyRelease using xev.
These are the results:

KeyRelease event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x321,
root 0x13b, subw 0x322, time 348823, (39,30), root:(714,83),
state 0x0, keycode 136 (keysym 0xff69, Cancel), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

Also I would have expected the key action to be XF86AudioStop and not
Cancel.

Re: [Bug 272563] Re: problems with autofit under vmware

2008-10-06 Thread Jonathan Jesse
Harald,

The bug is resolved for me with either an update to VMWare Workstation
6.5 or the update to KDEBASE that was described earlier.

 Hello Harald Sitter,

no, my problem occured using krandrtray (no virtualization/emulation or
something like that) as I described in bug #272774, but somebody marked that
bug as a duplicate of this one.
Maybe it's the best to make these two bug seperate again.

[Bug 239657] Re: Times New Roman font is not accessible from menu in AbiWord

2008-10-06 Thread Charlie Kravetz
I opened Abiword and typed some text in Times New Roman. I changed to
Bitstream Vera Sans, typed some more text. I then changed back to Times
New Roman and typed some text.

Perhaps this is a translation issue? My system is set up in English,
United States.

What language are you using when this occurs?

@Martin This bug is related the kaffeine loops on Codec package is
already installed. And the loop has been solved. Besides this, there
is still a usability bug, related to this bug, but different. I don't
know if this means that the bug can be closed, a new bug should be
opened or any other different action.

bug with the actual upgrade process or with nm-applet.

Either way it makes it look like something has gone wrong during the
