version available from http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-

[Bug 137960] Re: PDO LOB Insert Loses Bytes

2008-11-17 Thread Russell Smith
This is still a problem in hardy with all updates. I've not checked any
other versions.

I have updated the php bug with comments to see if it will be looked at
further. However due to the nature of the php bug trackers, I'm unable
to change the bug status from No Feedback to Open. Hopefully the
original reporter will make that change for me.

Also give I'm able to reproduce on hardy, the fact there is a workaround
and PHP are accepting there is a problem of some kind I've marked this
bug as Confirmed.

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2008-11-17 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
I am sorry. I never wanted to speak for others. It is my opinion, but it
would be better if I had said nothing at all.

considering scripts existed already and were simply executed at the
wrong stage of the shutdown sequence

Do these scripts really fix the problem? Please read the posting of Mathias Gug:
Adjusting the timeouts or moving/adding init scripts shouldn't matter at all.

But I do not want to speak for Mathias. He explained it much better
himself.

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2008-11-17 Thread flaccid
@Max-Ulrich Farber

What Mathias Gug was suggesting may be a better solution however not the
current method that Ubuntu employs in its [shutdown] scripts.
Considering how hard it is to get the other fixes committed as a
solution (which do work, I have tested and so have others), I would
assume this would be harder to get committed. Mathias suggested a great
possibility but did not attach the actual fix or try it so that doesn't
help at all unfortunately.

[Bug 281188] Re: Panic or segfault in Samba

2008-11-17 Thread nijho005
The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,

was called for PID 6015 (/usr/sbin/smbd).

This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault.
Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows
the state of the program at the time the error occurred. The Samba log
files may contain additional information about the problem.

If the problem persists, you are encouraged to first install the
samba-dbg package, which contains the debugging symbols for the Samba
binaries. Then submit the provided information as a bug report to
Ubuntu by visiting this link:

[Bug 299324] [NEW] 8.1 kernel panic after installing restricted nvidia drivers 177

2008-11-17 Thread jakerie
Public bug reported:

This problem seems to only happen in 8.1, as I didn't experience the
problem in 7.1 or 8.0.4

I am running a Dell Inspiron 1720, with 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600

When I enable the restricted nvidia drivers, both 173 and 177, desktop
effects and resolutions work fine. I am experiencing kernel panics
though, they are happening randomly. They do seem to happen more when
ElectricSheep is running or when playing a movie file in Totem. The caps
and scroll lock flash indicating the kernel panic.

It seems like there are other people having this same error, but I
haven't been able to pinpoint a fix for this. I would attach my
xorg.conf and log files, but I have since reinstalled Ubuntu and have
not enabled the restricted drivers again. Haven't experienced any kernel
panics without the drivers loaded.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
I will attach the Xorg.log file just for grins
Thanks
Jake

I added a .fdi script to let network-manager see the ATT Sierra Wireless
USBConnect Mercury Aircard, and once I managed to do that, I plug it in, and
pops up its helpful wizard. I click through, selecting ATT (have tried the
other ATT options too) and all seems well until I go to connect, at which
point it simply instantly fails.

Here is the relevant sections from /var/log/daemon.log:

[Bug 34982] Re: Please apply the EAP-FAST from the wpasupplicant source

2008-11-17 Thread Joshua Duan
According to openssl developers:
http://rt.openssl.org/Ticket/History.html?id=1574
The support for EAP-FAST has been included.
Also for wpa_supplicant, it will build according to the patched openssl.

But i am not sure how Network Manager can support EAP-FAST because when
i tried to add a new wireless connection, there is no option to choose
EAP-FAST as authentication.

[Bug 299328] [NEW] libhd15 wrongly claims to Provide libhd14

2008-11-17 Thread Emmet Hikory
After IRC review with Sarah Hobbs and Paul Gevers, this package appears
not to need any merge, and a sync is preferred, as events of the past 18

[Bug 299330] [NEW] Alt+Tab - switching applications delay. slow

2008-11-17 Thread Egg Yok
Public bug reported:

After hitting Alt+Tab it takes about .5 second before the application switch
applet will be displayed.
on windows XP this application switching window comes up instantly. In Ubuntu I
would consider it annoyingly slow

My config. Ubuntu 8.10, plain Gnome

Another issue, it that Shift+Alt+Tab does not navigate the applications
in reverse order, the way it works in XP. That would be nice if it's
fixed too. Thank you!!

[Bug 299329] [NEW] Update Manager is creating too many links

2008-11-17 Thread Randal Leavitt
Public bug reported:

Update manager always indicates to me that updates are pending for

totem-common
gnome-icon-terminal

If I try to install these updates they fail, and I think each failure
creates a symbolic link to a directory that is not needed. These
incorrect links will then cause further attempts to install these
updates to fail.

I will never be able to install these updates until I can get rid of all
these incorrect links and get back to a starting point that the update
manager expects.

When I tried to run these updates today I got this message:

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-icon-theme_2.24.0-0ubuntu1_all.deb: unable to
make backup symlink for
`./usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable/mimetypes/spreadsheet.svg'
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/totem-common_2.24.3-0ubuntu1_all.deb: unable to make
backup symlink for
`./usr/share/gnome/help/totem/oc/figures/totem_next_button.png'

It looks like the update manager is expecting the spreadsheet.svg and
totem_next_button.png to be regular graphical image files. Instead,
these files are now symbolic links to another directory. This is wrong.
I tried to find out what these bogus directories contain by using ls.

[Bug 299332] [NEW] Screen crash when installing KDE desktop in GNOME at ThinkPad T41

2008-11-17 Thread Halowai
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

I'm using IBM ThinkPad T41 and installed Ubuntu 8.04 (upgraded kernel to
2.6.24). As I want to use KDE instead of GNOME (which i have not
installed), and i use Synaptic Package Manager to get the KDE module,
the screen is crashed (on my T41 LCD screen, while still normal at my
external 19-inch clone screen) once I start the download...

The system actually is working fine, only the LCD display on my T41 is
black screen and some meaningless character blinking.

[Bug 297933] Re: kadu: CVE-2008-4776 remote DoS

2008-11-17 Thread fabrice_sp
I've tested that the resulting packages build in pbuilder and that the debdiff
apply cleanly to existing version.
About tests, I've checked that the application runs.

Also, those fixes are the same as debian ones (in libgadu 1.8.0+r592-3
and kadu 0.6.0.2-3), and I have checked the debdiff between debian and
new Ubuntu version.

Public bug reported:

Ubuntu's Start menu comes up with more that a second delay for the first

[Bug 111292] Re: Midi should always work!

2008-11-17 Thread Emmet Hikory
I'm marking this bug Fix Released. Whlie MIDI doesn't always work, the
remaining issues aren't ones that can be solved at a broad level. Sound
card configuration needs detailed bugs about specific cards that don't
work. Applications that don't work as installed with MIDI need specific
bugs about how they do not work. gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad contains a
MIDI plugin, so if users install this package, client MIDI works in
nearly any circumstance.

I've experienced precisely the same issues while using the alternate

older laptop and I'm no longer able to proceed past this point. I tried
re-burning the CD at the slowest speed with no improvement.

[Bug 241973] Re: Use oga (Ogg Vorbis, audio) as the default extension extension for adding music to collection

2008-11-17 Thread Michael Ellerman
This is _totally_ broken. I have hardware that knows about .ogg but not
.oga, so now when I rip songs with Linux they don't work on my music
player. I am cluey enough to know that I have to rename them, but most
people won't be - and will just assume that Linux doesn't work.

[Bug 299340] [NEW] Evnice is missing keyboard shortcuts to navigate between form fields

2008-11-17 Thread trjonescp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

There is no easy way to navigate between form fields in a PDF document.
This can be particularly frustrating with forms that have a separate
text entry for each individual character. I think [Tab] makes the most
sense. The current behavior of [Tab] is not very useful at all.

If Evince could detect single character form fields and automatically
advance to the next field (a-la Adobe Reader) that would be ideal.

Using Ubuntu 8.10, Evince 2.24.1

My wife's computer is still pretty well screwed from the perspective

playing and suspending and unsuspending generally fixes the sound
though.

[Bug 296729] Re: VERSION is omitting the release

2008-11-17 Thread Jamu Kakar
I've taken a brief look at this and I'm not sure how the version
could have gotten into this broken state (and I have verified that
it is broken, as reported). I've just used autoppa-switch on trunk
as:

autoppa-switch 1.0.24-0ubuntu0 intrepid

and it generates the right version string:

VERSION =
AUTOPPA_VERSION(1.0.24-0ubuntu0.8.10)[len(AUTOPPA_VERSION():-1]

I wonder if the broken version was a result of an issue in AutoPPA
(such as intrepid not being in the list of known Ubuntu releases)
and if the recent changes Chris made to integrate autoppa-switch
have fixed it? I don't have an AutoPPA environment in place here
and it's late; tomorrow when I have more time I'll do a test build
and see if the bug persists.

[Bug 299338] Re: grub2 taking configuration from somewhere else

2008-11-17 Thread Shirish Agarwal
The differences as I see are here :-

menu.lst shows :-

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.27-7-generic
root(hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.27-7-generic root=UUID=some UUID ro
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.27-7-generic

### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ###
set root=(hd0,1)
search --fs-uuid --set some different UUID
menuentry Ubuntu, linux 2.6.27-7-generic {
linux /vmlinuz-2.6.27-7-generic root=UUID=same UUID as given in
menu.lst ro quiet splash
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.27-7-generic
}

Now the issue is

a. Why does it set root at (hd0,1) and not (hd0,0)
b. What is this

search --fs-uuid --set some different UUID

Why there is some different UUID here

Obviously in both the files just from a security concern I have not put
up the UUID's which are given therein.

Output of df -h

$ df -h

/dev/sdb1 466G 71G 395G 16% /media/FreeAgent Drive

Obviously, the device where all the action should be is at :-

/dev/sda1 1.9G 48M 1.8G 3% /boot

I know I have kept much much more than ever its going to be needed but
that's another thing altogether.

If anybody needs some more info. feel free to ask the same here.

Public bug reported:
