[Bug 190515] Re: [Hardy][Intrepid] Low bandwidth with rt2400 / rt2500 drivers
This is turning into a genuine fiasco. I'm very aware that most work on Linux is on a volontary basis but upstream's arrogance and attitude, quite frankly, sucks. Look, if the driver is a rt2xxx generic, catch all, then the damn thing should work with rt2400 and rt2500 chipsets. If he doesn't want to back port (wait, isn't your crap supposed to work with 45 25? What's back about it?) then the driver name should be changed to rt 26* or rt28* or whatever since it IS NOT GENERIC TO ALL RT2xxx chipsets! Furthermore, as was stated above, sine it doesn't work and isn't generic to the family any more, then the legacy drivers should be reinstated. So, exactly where is the issue and why have we gone 3 versions without support for a very common and popular wireless chipset? Three versions and hundreds of broken laptops later we're still discussing this? The driver is NOT generic to the whole chipset series. The driver IS broken. The author refuses to make his generic driver generic any more. Rename the damn thing, reinstate the legacy drivers and move on. Sorry, but all this pussy footing around and breakage for hundreds of users over one asshole's arrogance and everybody's refusal to call him the elitist prick that he is or just ignore him is beyond frustrating. -- [Hardy][Intrepid] Low bandwidth with rt2400 / rt2500 drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 309864] Re: Shiny Switcher applet, drawing problem during animation and virtual desktop/workspace change
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 273326 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273326 I agree that the transitory artifact issue is a different bug than the persistent artifact issue with certain NVidia drivers. I have been saying that all along (look back at my previous comments in bug # 273326). However, I seriously believe that a fix in the awn transitory artifact bug will mitigate the NVidia persistent artifact issue at least for these artifacts. I fail to see how a non-existent artifact can persist. I know that there are other artifacts that are also persistent with these NVidia drivers, but they do not occur as often, nor are they as annoying. These transitory artifacts are occurring on a computer with an Intel video card and a slower processor, and they are extremely annoying on that computer. Although they are not persistent they do take several seconds to disappear due to the slower processor. They are just plain ugly. If the fix for these transitory artifacts is understood, then why is it not incorporated into the latest bzr code? Or is that what is being worked on in the trunk-rewrite-and-random-breakage branch? -- Shiny Switcher applet, drawing problem during animation and virtual desktop/workspace change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309864 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu (via bug 273326). -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Looking at the dpkg.log, I don't see anything that explains the change, but it dpkg --configure finally succeeded. [Bug 309920] Re: nVidia Version 96 not working unable to use compiz after restart (Ubuntu 8.10)
Not a bug. As seen in release notes : http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/810#nVidia%20%22legacy%22%20video%20support nVidia legacy video support The 71 and 96 series of proprietary nVidia drivers, as provided by the nvidia-glx-legacy and nvidia-glx packages in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, are not compatible with the X.Org included in Ubuntu 8.10. Users with the nVidia TNT, TNT2, TNT Ultra, GeForce, GeForce2, GeForce3, and GeForce4 chipsets are affected and will be transitioned on upgrade to the free nv driver instead. This driver does not support 3D acceleration. Users of other nVidia chipsets that are supported by the 173 or 177 driver series will be transitioned to the nvidia-glx-173 or nvidia- glx-177 package instead. However, unlike drivers 96 and 71, drivers 173 and 177 are only compatible with CPUs that support SSE (e.g. Intel Pentium III, AMD Athlon XP or higher). Systems with older CPUs will also be transitioned to the nv driver on upgrade. -- nVidia Version 96 not working unable to use compiz after restart (Ubuntu 8.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309920 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Peter, Bug 308537 is solely about an install problem where both Thomas and I encountered errors when simply installing nfs-common on Jaunty. [Bug 217789] Re: Realtek ALC888 low sound
After intense amounts of experimentation (and googling) I found a post which suggested that this was related to pulseaudio (and that their removal of it fixed a similar problem.) Since half my system depends on pulseaudio, its not easily removable but I see that others simply killed it and removed the reference to it from /etc/asound.conf Turns out I didn't do either, but rather just used alsamixer -c 0 and two of the sliders were set real low (despite the Pulseaudio volume control being maxed on every channel. I cranked those up, and all of a sudden my speakers have life :) Yes, I'm a bit red-faced, but maybe this will help somebody else with a simple fix. Finally I got rid of my HPA. The HDAT2 forum holds the answer: http://hdat2.getphpbb.com/hdat2-common-f3/drive-does-not-remember-set- max-address-t120.html User drasar describes the necessary steps for his Acer TravelMate 8004LMi which is very similar to my Acer TravelMate 662LMi: I solved it with HDAT2 v4.5.2 as follows: 1. SET MAX (HPA) Menu -- set new NATIVE MAX ADDRESS [last sector] (in 48bit LBA mode) -- so user area will have full drive capacity now 2. Device Configuration Overlay Menu -- Modify -- Host Protected Area feature -- set REMOVE action So you actually have to remove the HPA feature (not only the HPA itself!) from your HDD so that the BIOS is no longer able to create a new HPA on system startup. -- Manual partitioning shows no partitions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 310000] [NEW] Keyboard shortcuts don't stick with multiple keymappings
Public bug reported: = Summary == The Keyboard Shortcuts app changes its interpretation of my shortcuts after a reboot. I must change a shortcut from A to B and back to A again in order to make it behave properly once again -- until the next reboot. == The Setup = Using Wubi Intrepid Ibex on a Windows XP newish Lenovo Thinkpad. I installed Ibex using Qwerty, because Wubi doesn't offer an alternative; then I added US Dvorak layout and set it to default in Gnome. My physical keyboard is a Qwerty. I want two keyboard shortcuts: - Ctrl-Shift-F in dvorak (the physical Y key) to open Firefox - Ctrl-Shift-S in dvorak (the physical : key) to open Gnome Terminal I have found that I have to use the physical mapping in the Keyboard Shortcut application for this to work: Ctrl-Shift-Y and Ctrl-Shift-: . I set those, close the Keyboard Shortcut application, and hit the physical Y key (F in dvorak) to open Firefox, and hit the physical : key (S in dvorak) to open Gnome Terminal, and I'm happy enough. == The Problem When I reboot my computer, one of the two keyboard shortcuts has moved. The Keyboard Shortcuts app still lists Ctrl-Shift-Y and Ctrl-Shift-: , and pressing the physical Y key still opens Firefox. However, I must press Ctrl-Shift-physical Z key, which is Dvorak :, in order to open Gnome Terminal. It's like the Keyboard Shortcuts app understands that Ctrl-Shift-: should now be interpreted as Dvorak, while Ctrl-Shift-Y should be interpreted as Qwerty. If I go into Keyboard Shortcuts and reassign Gnome Terminal to a new hotkey (say Ctrl-Shift-U), close it, reopen it, and reassign Gnome Terminal to Ctrl-Shift-: again, and close it, then I am again able to hit the physical : key (S in dvorak) to open Gnome Terminal. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Keyboard shortcuts don't stick with multiple keymappings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/31 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 278259] Re: [i945] Intrepid ibex does not configure intel 945 properly
I tried reproducing the bug using the Jaunty Alpha-2 live cd. I can report a few interesting findings. Startup (initial) configuration works fine. It properly detects both monitors and configures them as mirror where the image is cropped on the smaller (wide-screen) monitor. This is expected behaviour to me. Reconfiguration of monitors shows detection works fine. All modes are properly detected and configurable (at this point) in the utility. Now, when I configure the two screens side-by-side and apply settings I get a message that xorg.conf must be modified and I must relogin. After relogin the system freezes (hard) at random point while the desktop is loading. I have tried this with the latest updates, no change.
