[Bug 312648] [NEW] package samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 132
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba I tried to set up shared folders through the Xubuntu UI (System > Shared Folders). I was prompted to install NFS and/or SMB, so I chose both. A dependency problem with NFS was identified and it was left unconfigured. I decided I didn't need NFS so uninstalled both nfs-common and nfs- kernel-server through Synaptic. I could not get the Shared Folders application to allow me to set up SMB alone, so I went into Synaptic and tried to reinstall Samba. That reinstallation gave the current error. rich...@blackbox:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.10 Release:8.10 rich...@blackbox:~$ apt-cache policy samba samba: Installed: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 Candidate: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 Version table: *** 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 0 500 http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca intrepid-updates/main Packages 500 http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca intrepid-security/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3 0 500 http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca intrepid/main Packages rich...@blackbox:~$ ProblemType: Package Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10 ErrorMessage: subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 132 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Package: samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 SourcePackage: samba Title: package samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 132 Uname: Linux 2.6.27-11-generic i686 ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-package -- package samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 132 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312648 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 306916] Re: [i945] screen shows temporary garbage then goes blank, falls into low-graphics mode
Hi, I am getting similar problems after installing Intrepid on my Lenovo 3000 C100 laptop - sometimes it doesn't even start up properly - going to a black screen rather than login prompt but more often doing exactly as Scott says above after variable amounts of time. I don't use any high res graphics stuff - gaming limited to Solitaire type games but mostly used for work purposes. I have installed the latest intrepid debs as per 1 above posted by Bryce. Will let you know whether that solves the problem. erica -- [i945] screen shows temporary garbage then goes blank, falls into low-graphics mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/306916 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 312632] [NEW] wish : no compulsory extension
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: eog Well, I am sorry, this is a wish, not a bug : (even if to me this is a "problem", as stated in the Help menu entry, needing to be reported) do you have a specific entry for wishes ? For the moment I will describe it here : this is my first eog usage : when I saved my first image, eog REQUIRED an extension. Why the hell ? on Unix, extensions do not exist. The file type is recognized through the first bytes in the file (file command, magic files) why do you regress to this windowish usage ? I was feeling as if I was using some windowish program !!! please come back to a more natural Unix usage and please DROP this compulsory extension usage ! this usage should be OPTIONAL. [Bug 90261] Re: Volume Control plugin can't be added to xfce4-panel
Same results on an upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 this evening. Quite annoying and mystifying. I am not using any of the aforementioned problem themes. Theme: Xfce-4.2 Icons: Tango WM Style: Smallscreen Terminal output when adding volume control applet: The program 'xfce4-mixer-plugin' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)'. [Bug 271986] Re: [intrepid] screen brightness resets to 100% on reboot
Rocko, I've reinvestigated the case. Seems like I mistakenly reset the computer without setting manually brightness down before the reboot (I made a reboot twice) and I though that the brightness reset was done at the GRUB stage, while in reality it was reset during previous boot. Seems like, the first appearance of Ubuntu logo and boot progress bar seems to reset the brightness for the first time. When I turn it down, it gets reset again at logon screen. [Bug 118605] Re: [fglrx] freezes upon Logout or Switch user [patch]
@Robert Bernecky 1, Complaining to AMD/ATI tends to do nothing but frustrate people due to the lack of any response on their part 2. ATI *did* release open specification for its video driver, or at least the parts they could or would due to licensing and other IP gripes. I guess it enabled better development of the open-source Xorg driver, but has only relinquished their responsibility with fglrx. 3. fglrx does not support XrandR so dual head needs to be done via Xinerama or similar eg. http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/X.Org/Dual_Monitors/ATI 4. switch user and dual display should work Ok under the open-source "ati" or "radeon" driver. 5. In this case you can't blame Linux, but you can blame AMD for lack of support and maintainence of the driver and Ubuntu for its lack of action - Its still not proven which one is exactly at fault and why; but it do looks like the ATI driver is doing something non-standard Unfortunately none of this gets us closer to fixing this bug. -- [fglrx] freezes upon Logout or Switch user [patch] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118605 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 311682] Re: Hide/show windows should raise windows instead.
Thank you for the bug report. I am able to confirm this behavior. However, notification area icons are an application-specific issue, and so individual bug reports should be filed about each application that exhibits the problem so the bugs can be properly forwarded to their upstream authors. I'm going to go ahead and mark this one against xchat. [Bug 312210] Re: Network manager broadband connection not complete
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . [Bug 312212] Re: What is "system setting" in network manager and why is there no documentation?
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. [Bug 276445] Re: Madwifi (atheros) driver malfunction induces a system freeze
cheers everybody.. i have good news... after setting up everything with the new modem, i haven't had a kernel panic the whole day (some serious traffic has been going on like p2p more than 500 kBs, media streaming etc).. i sure hope it's not just luck.. i did 2 things.. 1) changed my wireless router to "802.11b only" instead of "b and g"... i 'm not sure that this is what made it work 'cause i think i had already tried that before.. strange thing though: iwconfig gives me ath0 IEEE 802.11g but in case you cant' do that, 2) the second thing i tried is enabling the ath9k driver module.. apparently in 8.10 it's already in there (at least that's what i think) so just do sudo modprobe ath9k and then lsmod |grep ath and check it's enabled.. notice that you'll have to do that again if you restart, but if it actually works you can just add it as a startup command in system->preferences->sessions i'd love to hear that it worked for you too -- Madwifi (atheros) driver malfunction induces a system freeze https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276445 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 118605] Re: [fglrx] freezes upon Logout or Switch user [patch]
I don't particularly care about graphics performance, but definitely DO want (1) switch-user to work properly (which, at present, crashes my system), and (2) dual-head support to work properly. So, I may not need the apparently useless drivers from AMD/ATI, if they are the root of the problem, IF I can get the above features to work properly without fglrx. Someone claimed that someone from ATI/AMD said that "nobody uses switch-user, so we don't have to fix it". This statement is rumor, so I don't want to beat up on ATI/AMD (perhaps), but let me assure you that the need to run concurrent users with different permissions is very critical to my work. If NVIDIA can support the above two requirements, I would switch to them in an instant, IFF they work. My past experience with NVIDIA does not give me hope here. \begin{rant} If ATI/AMD would just publish their device (GPU) specifications, we could do the open-source thing and life would be good. At present, I have NO good suppliers of GPUs to go to. This is as bad as the mainframe world of the 1970s, when IBM refused to publish their I/O channel specifications, in the hope of keeping their monopoly. Perhaps someone should sue ATI/AMD and NVIDIA to get them to publish their interface specifications. \end{rant} BTW, these problems, from what I've seen, may not be specific to ATI/AMD or NVIDIA, because it seems to appear with both GPUs. If so, my apologies to the appropriate vendor(s). If not, will you people please get off your butt and fix things? Thanks. Re: [Bug 278159] Re: Intrepid Ibex installer does not recognize partition table on SATA drives
I'd still try to delete that extended partition and recreate it. Sounds like your partition table is pretty screwed to me. Rewriting it with windows or something might help. I don't think anything will work for you without changes to the table somehow. Unallocated space doesn't just suddenly appear or your table became suddenly corrupt. :P You can always recreate the FAT32 partition at the end for the media you might need to make the volume label the same, but I doubt the size matters as long as it is FAT32..have you thought about installing ubuntu on your windows partiton and boot selected with windows? :) -- Intrepid Ibex installer does not recognize partition table on SATA drives https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
