[Bug 316088] [NEW] Please sync ikvm 0.38.0.2+dfsg-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main).

2009-01-11 Thread directhex
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ikvm

Please sync ikvm 0.38.0.2+dfsg-1 (universe) from Debian experimental
(main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Changes merged into Debian (major repackaging effort)

Changelog since current jaunty version 0.34.0.4-4ubuntu1:
ikvm (0.38.0.2+dfsg-1) experimental; urgency=low

  [ Jo Shields ]
  * Package adopted by Debian CLI Libraries Team. (Closes: #466336)
  * New upstream release, based on GNU Classpath 0.95 and OpenJDK 6b12
  * Repackaged - uses completely generated .orig, see README.source
  * Updated build-deps for the Mono 2.0 transition.
  * Group Policy:
+ get-orig-source target in debian/rules
  * Signed using Mono key - it causes an ABI breakage for now, but it's an
improvement on the randomly generated keys used previously, as it means
ABI breakage is no longer guaranteed between compiles. (Closes: #484125)
  * Use correct path in ikvm.pc file. (Closes: #504529)
  * Ensure that Configuration.java uses the ikvm-key configured for the build,
not a hard-coded value. (Closes: #337414)

  [ David Paleino ]
  * debian/compat bumped to 7

  [ Mirco Bauer ]
  * debian/control:
+ Added Homepage, Vcs-Svn and Vcs-Browser fields.
+ Enhanced short and long package descriptions.
+ Changed Section from devel to interpreters, as this is mainly a runtime
  and not a development tool.
+ Bumped cli-common-dev build-dep to = 0.5.7 as we need dh_clistrip and
  dh_clixfixperms of it.
  * debian/rules:
+ Fixed order of dh_* calls.
   + Added dh_clistrip and dh_clifixperms calls.
+ Removed unneeded chmod calls (as dh_clifixperms takes now care).
+ Replaced hardcoded mono calls with DEB_CLI_RUNTIME variable.
  * debian/rules
debian/IKVM.Runtime.dll.config
debian/IKVM.Runtime.JNI.dll.config
debian/IKVM.OpenJDK.ClassLibrary.dll.config:
   + Added missing dll-maps for libikvm-native.so invocation.

[Bug 315983] Re: nautilus crashes and desktop icons disappears

2009-01-11 Thread Tommaso R. Donnarumma
It looks like this crash is caused by something in compiz.desktop. I can
replicate the crash reliably with these commands:

mkdir ~/test
cp /usr/share/applications/compiz.desktop ~/test/
nautilus ~/test

The other files seem ok, but I didn't do an exhaustive check (yet). But
files beginning with a*, b* and c*, except compiz.desktop, do not cause
a crash.

[Bug 315234] Re: giplet showing IP to wrong lan cards

2009-01-11 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Hi

Note, that in the default giplet has configuration line for interfaces
to be eth0 www.getmyip.org. If eth0 is not configured, then the second
interface value is checked. So if you have something like eth0
www.getmyip.org and eth0 is not configured, it will show the external
ip which is get from www.getmyip.org.

Does this somehow helps on your problem? If you want to show the
external ip, simply left www.getmyip.org. If you want to have the IP of
a specific interface, make an entry of only that interface. if the
interface does not have curently an IP, then giplet will show the text
Giplet.

[Bug 234484] Re: heavy network activity stalls network (on both ends)

2009-01-11 Thread LuisMondesi
We got bitten by this very bug! I spent a long time making sure it
wasn't anything on our network but what clear things up for me was this:

copying from Hardy to Hardy works
copying from Hardy to Solaris does not
copying from Solaris to Solaris works

So, obviously it's not the network devices that are wrong. So, I started
digging and found a lot of information about stalling issues for scp and
large files and the use of scp -vvv to hint at the problem.

scp -l works fine if the limit is relatively small. (100Kb/s or so).
very annoying.

Good news wife has started using Kubuntu and I got the printer working -
following some good posts, took a bit of fiddling but its works great.

SO why use MS Windows? - No reasons other than some sites sites (ATO and

 Bug description:
Microsoft has a majority market share in the new desktop PC marketplace.
This is a bug, which Ubuntu is designed to fix.

Non-free software is holding back innovation in the IT industry,
restricting access to IT to a small part of the world's population and
limiting the ability of software developers to reach their full potential,
globally. This bug is widely evident in the PC industry.

 Steps to repeat:

 1. Visit a local PC store.

 What happens:
 2. Observe that a majority of PCs for sale have non-free software
 pre-installed.
 3. Observe very few PCs with Ubuntu and free software pre-installed.

 What should happen:
 1. A majority of the PCs for sale should include only free software like
 Ubuntu.
 2. Ubuntu should be marketed in a way such that its amazing features and
benefits would be apparent and known by all.
 3. The system shall become more and more user friendly as time passes.

[Bug 302227] Re: [i945] Cursor movement, screenshot clipping and redraw problems on dual-headed, Intel 945GME desktop after 20081125 compiz/X update

2009-01-11 Thread RicardoBanffy
I am not sure if this will still be seen by the upstream developers, but
I think I have a better way of describing the problem that suggests it
has a very simple fix.

Since the redraw vestiges happen only outside an 800x600 window (the
same size the greeter used), it is possible that the background window
(or however it may be called in Z/Compiz-speak) responsible for ensuring
things get erased when needed is being sized at the same size the
greeter used (800x600 in this case) instead of the size of the combined
monitor area (2048x768).

I hope this helps.

[Bug 257753] Re: Can't block a contact with jabber protocol

2009-01-11 Thread CoudCoud
Hello,
I think it's a problem with the jabber.org server.
Here is what I did when I reported this bug :
I used two jabber.org accounts on two computers on my LAN.
When I tried to block a contact I was seeing him disconnected, but he could see
me connected.

Today I tried with the same computers, but with a jabber.org account and with a
gmail.com account :
When I tried to block a contact while using the jabber.org account, it didn't
work.
When I tried to block a contact with the gmail.com account : it worked, no one
could see each other.

Do I need to contact the jabber.org administrators ?
Does it happen on other servers ?

Thanks.

[Bug 311237] Re: gedit fails to run as root in jaunty

2009-01-11 Thread tdflanders
Hi there,

The problem here was that I had only 1 root gnome-terminal and 1 user
gnome-terminal available. I could obviously try and repeat this exact
same process from a live cd and open up sever terminals previous to any
sort of crash. I have altered the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file as described:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash.

I will see if there is anything to backtrace there. I am giving up for
now. Next time when I upgrade my 8.10 rescue to jaunty (probably soon),
I will try some of this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing.

But please give me your advise too.

Oh yeah, and I think the title of this bug should be changed to gdm-
something.

Reminder: the only useful debug info here is probably the strace, maybe
strace attach pidof gdm (both gdm's) too?

Thanks Pedro,

Thomas

[Bug 311237] Re: gedit fails to run as root in jaunty

2009-01-11 Thread tdflanders
I will tell you if this solved the problem (I am fairly sure it will):

r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# dpkg-reconfigure debconf
r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# dpkg-reconfigure debconf
Configuring debconf
---

Packages that use debconf for configuration share a common look and feel. You
can select the type of user interface they use.

The dialog frontend is a full-screen, character based interface, while the
readline frontend uses a more traditional plain text interface, and both the
gnome and kde frontends are modern X interfaces, fitting the respective desktops
(but may be used in any X environment). The editor frontend lets you configure
things using your favorite text editor. The noninteractive frontend never asks
you any questions.

  1. Dialog 2. Readline 3. Gnome 4. Kde 5. Editor 6. Noninteractive

Interface to use: 2

Debconf prioritizes the questions it asks you. Pick the lowest priority of
question you want to see:
  - 'critical' only prompts you if the system might break.
Pick it if you are a newbie, or in a hurry.
  - 'high' is for rather important questions
  - 'medium' is for normal questions
  - 'low' is for control freaks who want to see everything

Note that no matter what level you pick here, you will be able to see every
question if you reconfigure a package with dpkg-reconfigure.

  1. critical 2. high 3. medium 4. low

Ignore questions with a priority less than: 4

r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# dpkg-reconfigure -au
 * Disabling power management... [ OK ]
 * Checking battery state...
/dev/sda:
setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254)
 [ OK ]
 * Stopping ACPI services... [ OK ]
 * Stopping Hardware abstraction layer hald [ OK ]
 * Loading ACPI modules...   [ OK ]
 * Starting ACPI services... [ OK ]
 * Starting Hardware abstraction layer hald [ OK ]
Adduser
---

By default, users' home directories are readable by all users on the system. If
you want to increase security and privacy, you might want home directories to be
readable only for their owners. But if in doubt, leave this option enabled.

This will only affect home directories of users added from now on with the
adduser command.

Do you want system-wide readable home directories?

Expanding/ correcting my previous post, I 'd like to note that the

Perhaps this a general hardware incompatibility when fully utilizing the

It could be, that the connector table of your card is broken. Could everyone,

[Bug 316093] [NEW] gvfsd allocates huge amounts of memory while playing audio files

2009-01-11 Thread lbhudda
Public bug reported:

This might be related to bug 195976 (where gvfsd is accused of crashing a
machine).
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195976

I have two screenshots of the system monitor, indicating the amount of
memory gvfsd has allocated (292MB) and the amount of swap consumed
(943MB). My system has 1.5GB of ram and the same swap, and I can
reliably create this amount of swap being taken if my Sony Walkman MP3
player is connected for a couple of days and I listen to my music, the
swap gets eaten. My issue is that I have to reboot (haven't tried
logging out and in again) to release the swap space. I have tried to
unmount the Walkman, but that doesn't change anything.

Kind regards,
Rob Wiers

[Bug 220628] Re: firefox-3.0b5 received an X Window System error: 'BadIDChoice'

2009-01-11 Thread lessoffensive
Thomas, you're right, flashblock wasn't it. It's strange though that it
worked for me for about two weeks with that new upgraded version but now
I have the same crash again. Are you using KDE 4.X? What may be
involved is that I just changed nvidia drivers last night and it's
started crashing since. I'm using the nvidia 180.22 drivers, upgraded
from 180.16.

I still haven't ruled out QtCurve though, so I'm upgrading to the latest
(0.60 from the notz ppa) and will see how that works. I'm shocked so
few people have this problem and it's persisted as long as it has being
as totally intermittent as it has been, as well.

It also seems to only happen when I get enough tabs to have to scroll
through them on the tab bar on the window (the last crash was 2 windows,
140 tabs); that doesn't seem to cause the crash, but it never seems to
be able to get off the ground after it either crashes unrelatedly or
being closed.

I'm also using an nvidia geforce 8600 GT. What card and drivers are you
using? I've had problems with the 8XXX series and the nvidia drivers
for about the last year--maybe the bug is somewhere in the combination
of bad driver version(s) and 8XXX series of cards.

No problems now, pano are superbs !

[Bug 314897] Re: White screen of death - no escape

2009-01-11 Thread Lupine
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in xorg.

For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of
applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can
be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the
application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about
this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Also, I've been unable to reproduce your issue on Ubuntu 8.10. Can you
reproduce this issue with an Ubuntu LIVE CD and report back if the
problem still exists on Ubuntu 8.10 LIVE CD? I'm confused as to the
exact steps you took. You stated in your second post that you manually
installed ATI drivers, but made no mention of that in your first post.
Can you post detailed step by step instructions of what you have done?

[Bug 312367] Re: Xfce Desktop Manager + Display Issues

2009-01-11 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since
this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work,
I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.

Unless the following are marked, this issue happens :
 * There is a checkmark on 'Allow Xfce to manage the desktop'
 * On the Behavior tab, under Desktop Icons, 'file/launcher icons' is
selected.

[Bug 316098] [NEW] Plugging in Sony Ericsson W350i walkman phone causes kernel oops and kills usb

2009-01-11 Thread Simon Booth
Public bug reported:

I've just bought a Sony Ericsson W350i mobile phone / mp3 player.

When I plug it in, I'm briefly asked to configure the phone as a new
wireless broadband modem, but the dialog goes away almost immediately.
If the phone is set to file transfer, it reboots; if set to phone mode
it doesn't.

After that, no USB devices work, and lsusb just hangs.

Looking in the output of dmesg, there's a kernel oops just after the
phone is plugged in.

work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out
