[Bug 303232] Re: armel gcc default optimisations
Dave, on the use of multiple sources.list entries: Note that http://mojo.handhelds.org/hasty-armv6el-vfp/ only cascades deb-src entries. We discussed the idea of another archive, but this is quite a stretch to setup and maintain; of course you need infrastructure (disk space, buildds, bandwidth etc.), but also it needs maintenance (watching the builds), separate QA, and is quite confusing to end users. Ideally, you also want a mechanism to prevent mismatches of packages on target systems. The way to do this would be to add subarch support to dpkg/apt and enforce subarch equality when installing binary packages (the subarch of the binary package needs to match the subarch of the system). [Note that the mojo folks abused the arm port; AFAIK they built binaries for EABI using arm as Debian architecture, so they offer .debs which dpkg will allow to install on a Debian arm install despite being another ABI. That was the easiest path to get these interesting archives, but it breaks ABI, so not something to do officially IMO. What's possible however is to rebuild the armel archive with higher CPU requirements, keeping the same ABI.] -- armel gcc default optimisations https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303232 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

thank you for your comment, there is no offense there, the ubuntu bug triager do try to get useful informations on bugs to send those to the people writting the software so they can be worked. in this case there is nobody in the ubuntu team getting your issue or knowing the code enough to know what informations to request, in such case it would not be efficient to open a bug upstream without being able to reply to their questions, that's why it has been asked if you could contact them directly since you get the issue and could reply to their question which is not the case for bug triagers -- System monitor displays incorrect disk usage sizes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269204 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 327027] Re: hugin autopano error
Had the same problem, same fix. Yes, it is a bug, but in the settings, not in any of the the programs. What happens is that Hugin installs fine in Ubuntu Intrepid, with all the dependencies, but the autopano-executable setting is wrong. It should indeed be 'autopano-complete' (which is some sort of script as far as I can see), instead of just 'autopano'. This is an eyesore as it means that Hugin does not work out-of-the-box. The fix is easy but not obvious, which might turn many people off. [Bug 303232] Re: armel gcc default optimisations
Emmet, I don't think runtime detection is a good idea for FPU; you would end up reimplementing the hwcap mechanism to select between two flavours of the library IMO -- unless all floating point is already in a dlopen- ed plugin, but that's not really the case for the libs here. Also, I think we might not split in separate packages for all libs; only the largest ones. For instance a separate libc6-i686 is warranted since libc6 is installed in all chroots / installs and /lib/tls/i686/cmov is 2.6 MB, but libspeex1 ships both /usr/lib/sse2/libspeex.so.1.5.0 and /usr/lib/libspeex.so.1.5.0 because the SSE2 variant is only 116 kB. [Bug 320027] Re: Incorrect CPU speed on 2G Surf
Sitsofe, I am attempting to confirm that cpuinfo on a Xandros eeepc 701 install on a reports 800 Mhz I have also added outputs of `dpkg -l` and `lsmod` if these can be of any help. It is not a problem to post anything else you may need from the machine. I am using the first BIOS version 0129 produced for this machine at its release. Xandros update software proposes BIOS upgrades but fails to install them. Asus support does not recommend the upgrade and are not assisting with the issue. Having a slower clock speed will discourage people from installing Ubuntu when another distro allows the speed it was designed for. If we both believe and can agree that user experience and hardware support are extemely important factors, we can therefore agree that this is a fair argument. I agree with you on the fact that they are able to install and run Ubuntu, but nobody should sacrifice such a performance hit for making that choice. If 800mhz is a safe speed, it should be standard. If we run it at 571mhz, there there needs to be an easy way for users to scale up. I personally prefer the former. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- Incorrect CPU speed on 2G Surf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/320027 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
