[Bug 133638] Re: user should be informed that updatedb is running

2009-02-21 Thread markor
I think that reasoning for this bug are right. I myself was affected with
system non responsive
and not knowing what is going on for a long time.
I even closed (and killed) all my running apps, only to find out that system is
doing something
I cant stop or minimize its usage, so it would definately inform user what is
going on, if we
want to stop it user from using its computer for several minutes.. while system
is doing something..

[Bug 324808] Re: [Toshiba Satellite L300] suspend/resume problem

2009-02-21 Thread khiraly
Hi!

I tried disabling the second CPU core. I read on this bug #276943:
" Resume from suspend doesn't work on the Mobile 4 Series chipsets "

I disabled using a script from this forum (comment #12):
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6105510#post6105510

Didnt help. It failed as before.
I disabled the second core from BIOS, it didnt help either.

It looks like disk does not respond after hibernate/suspend.
(lighting up the hdd led for a second is not really a disk start)

I keep looking/trying it makes me nuts. Would be nice some help however.

[Bug 113312] Re: locate knows about files on my encrypted partition

I confirm that reasoning about this bug is right. Index if encrypted partitions
should be encrypted itself.
Thomas, does this indexing and putting index to unencrypted, also happens when
default
ubuntu default encryption is used?
Since /etc/locatedb.conf should be considered if some non-standard encryption
method is used.
But if standard encryption method is used, then this bug should be considered.

[Bug 332794] [NEW] zsnes sound works intermittently on multi-core systems

2009-02-21 Thread Joel Ebel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zsnes

There is a bug in the threading code of zsnes which causes sound to work
intermittently on multi-core systems which use libao for sound output.
For me sound worked about half the time. I've attached a debdiff which
fixes this problem. In the zsnes forums, this problem was first
mentioned here:

http://board.zsnes.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10918

later, zsnes unofficially released 1.51b which fixed this threading
issue, as well as fixed build issues with gcc 4.3+.

http://board.zsnes.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11513

The attached debdiff brings the code up to match what's in the 1.51b
package. Alternatively, we could rebuild the package based directly on
the 1.51b original package, but that would mean diverging more from
debian's package.

[Bug 298562] Re: No wireless connection

2009-02-21 Thread Ted
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.
Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team:

1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.log" and attach the
resulting file "lspci-vnvn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at

[Bug 319748] Re: /media is exluded of indexing in /etc/updatedb.conf

2009-02-21 Thread markor
Maybe that is default setting since if every media is indexed when is mounted
to /media
that would mostly kill your usability of that media.
Also, i think that, that database of files on /media is mostly useless if media
is not present and so.

It would be nice if user could easily set that behavior IF he wants that new
media that is inserted first time, be indexed. But it is question how it would
display results for media not present
and is there that "indexing every removable media separately" even implemented?

[Bug 301179] Re: no VGA hot key combo REGRESSION

2009-02-21 Thread Ted
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 304694] Re: no automatic signalling attaching device on usb-hub

2009-02-21 Thread Ted
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 304806] Re: bcm4311 wifi network connections (kernel >2.6.24-22)

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

[Bug 332790] [NEW] updatedb.mlocate slows applications to unusable state, while running

2009-02-21 Thread markor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mlocate

Every time updatedb.mlocate is running its scheduled task, it occupies hard
disk and its bandwith
so user space aplications become slow and unresponsive.

Every time it runs i am mostly unable to do normal work on my machine an i need
to wait
couple of minutes, doing nothing until that updatedb.mlocate thing is done.

I think that this is user-unfriendly behavior of updatedb.mlocate and I think
that
it should run with some kind of lower priority to dissk, not disturbing user
experience
and nor destroying Ubuntu usability for those few minutes.
I even switched time when that update runs , according to irc channel support,
and it still bugs me and destroy usability when i use computer at that time.

Current behavior: updatedb.mlocate occupies whole disk bandwith when it is run
on scheduled time,
not allowing user space applications to run and turn system in unusable state
during that run.
Crucial user-space actions are affected during its run.

Wated behavior: updatedb.mlocate should run at lower priority at disk usage to
avoid
blocking Ubuntu computer for the time it runs.

I run Xubuntu Hardy amd64 8.04.2/LTS

[Bug 332787] [NEW] can't get notifications to appear xubuntu

daemon for xubuntu installed and working fine I believe it was the
*-xfce version. I heard about the new black notifications and I wanted
to test them out... not sure if the update-manager installed them or if
I had to manually install notify-osd. Anyways... it seemed to work fine
for about a day... I could test it with notify-send "test" -- however...
now I can't get any notifications to appear. notify-send "test" no
longer makes a purty black box appear. If I do not provide a message
terminal responds with "No summary specified." -- so it seems like it
should be working. I have tried reinstalling notification-
daemon/libnotify/notify-osd to no avail... also tried installing
notification-daemon-xfce (which conflicts with notify-osd I noticed) in

[Bug 286861] Re: AR5006EG/AR242x/AR2423 wireless not working

2009-02-21 Thread ihtarlik
I recently reinstalled Intrepid using the ISO image available on
ubuntu.com. After installation, I rebooted. The Atheros card was not
operational. However, under System -> Administration -> Hardware
Drivers, Ubuntu shows "Support for Atheros 802.11 wireless LAN cards" as
being activated.

My next step was to update the system (using my wired LAN, of
course). The updates installed flawlessly, and I rebooted. The Atheros
card was still not operational. Output of 'iwconfig', 'lspci -vvnn', and
'lshw -C net' match my original posting to this bug track, but dmesg no
longer makes any reference to ath5k (time indexes 67.043974 -
67.054151).

I then changed the options in the Software Sources section to allow
Pre-release Updates (intrepid-proposed) and allowed the system to
update. Once again, I rebooted the system after the updates installed.
The Atheros card still did not work.

At this time, I ran 'lsmod | grep ath' and got:
ath_pci 99096 0
wlan211952 1 ath_pci
ath_hal 198864 1 ath_pci

The only thing I've found that gets the card working is compiling
the drivers from "madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3861-20080903.tar.gz". I follow
the instructions in the README (run a couple scripts to remove the
current "inactive" wireless driver, make, make install), and the card
works until the next kernel update is released. Then I have to compile
and install the drivers again. The frustrating part isn't that it
doesn't work "out of the box," but simply that I have to fix the box
every time there's a kernel update.

[Bug 332784] [NEW] evolution-sharp 5.0 transition

I've just uploaded a new evolution-sharp package which bumps the ABI
from 3.0 to 5.0. This requires the rdepends to transition to the new

There are some small API changes in the CalRecurrence class; if these

[Bug 332648] Re: impress hangs on importing ppt

2009-02-21 Thread JanBrinkmann
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software
package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this
the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please
report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and
Ubuntu the following pages should be informative:

1. http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/components - information about
Ubuntu repositories
2. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories - information regarding
managing repositories

Thanks once again for pointing us to the error. However, you should talk
to the owner of the PPA to get that fixed.

[Bug 31846] Re: Install CD boots, but only mounts from the first CD drive

2009-02-21 Thread DaneM
I will take another look at this. I recall that when I went to install
8.10 (64-bit) on this system (after a motherboard upgrade, but the drive
configuration is constant), I could not install at all from a CD. I
don't recall the details of the problem (I'll look into it again), but I
ended up having to make a live USB drive to install from instead. I'll
keep you posted on this issue, and report a different bug if it appears
to be a different problem.

I saw that issue for the MAC. Yes. I have a second LAN card with
manually changed MAC.

ifocnfig eth1 hw ether 00:01:02:03:04:05 (not real just ex.)

I`ve set it as a defalut executable in /etc/rc.local

Another info I forgot. My PC is running on 4 GHz which is a 1 GHz
oveclock. It`s E8400 form intel`s penyrn series, but I have to add that
now that I recall I saw that bug in my old E4400 intel cpu on ubuntu
7.04... So the oveclock is no more suspicious. But back then I had no
2nd LAN card... :S Guess it has to do something with Intel CPUs May
be a memory issue? Maybe with intel L2 cache or 64 bit support? My
ubuntu is 32 bit... Dunno just thinking...

This problem is because repositories have an old version of libfann (version 1,
2004), it is very old, ubuntu should update this package

You should use the second version

http://ufpr.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/fann/libfann2-dev_2.0.0-1_i386.deb
and his dependency
http://ufpr.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/fann/libfann2_2.0.0-1_i386.deb

Greetings

[Bug 332270] Re: [jaunty] doesn't boot anymore after udev upgrade

2009-02-21 Thread Marc Deslauriers
I got hit by this bug also. It rendered my system unbootable.
I had to boot 2.6.28-7, ctrl-alt-del during boot and comment out the line from
/lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules to get the system bootable again
(still need to boot with 2.6.28-7 though).

Attached are my files.

[Bug 332776] [NEW] Lyx1.6: export/import problem with latex

2009-02-21 Thread David Roscoe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lyx

I use Lyx to create documents with considerable mathematical content
and, generally speaking, have had no real problems either exporting Lyx
files as *.tex files, or importing *.tex files into LyX.

However, I have just discovered (using LyX 1.6.1-1 on kubuntu 8.10) that
I can export LyX files as LaTex(plain) files perfectly - that is, I can
open and compile these in, say, Kile.

But, when I try to re-import these same files (even unmodified), then my
LyX freezes. I need to perform this process for communication purposes
with a remote third party.

I have attached a lyx file which exhibits this bad behaviour upon
LyX-->latex-->Lyx.

** Affects: lyx (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 280033] Re: System very slow after opening firefox or thunderbird

2009-02-21 Thread Dan Trevino
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in nvidia-graphics-drivers-177.

Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and
X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual
uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could
you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg
autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the
/var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. Thanks in advance.
