[Bug 286861] Re: AR5006EG/AR242x/AR2423 wireless not working
I recently reinstalled Intrepid using the ISO image available on ubuntu.com. After installation, I rebooted. The Atheros card was not operational. However, under System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers, Ubuntu shows "Support for Atheros 802.11 wireless LAN cards" as being activated. My next step was to update the system (using my wired LAN, of course). The updates installed flawlessly, and I rebooted. The Atheros card was still not operational. Output of 'iwconfig', 'lspci -vvnn', and 'lshw -C net' match my original posting to this bug track, but dmesg no longer makes any reference to ath5k (time indexes 67.043974 - 67.054151). I then changed the options in the Software Sources section to allow Pre-release Updates (intrepid-proposed) and allowed the system to update. Once again, I rebooted the system after the updates installed. The Atheros card still did not work. At this time, I ran 'lsmod | grep ath' and got: ath_pci 99096 0 wlan211952 1 ath_pci ath_hal 198864 1 ath_pci The only thing I've found that gets the card working is compiling the drivers from "madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3861-20080903.tar.gz". I follow the instructions in the README (run a couple scripts to remove the current "inactive" wireless driver, make, make install), and the card works until the next kernel update is released. Then I have to compile and install the drivers again. The frustrating part isn't that it doesn't work "out of the box," but simply that I have to fix the box every time there's a kernel update. -- AR5006EG/AR242x/AR2423 wireless not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286861 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 31846] Re: Install CD boots, but only mounts from the first CD drive
I will take another look at this. I recall that when I went to install 8.10 (64-bit) on this system (after a motherboard upgrade, but the drive configuration is constant), I could not install at all from a CD. I don't recall the details of the problem (I'll look into it again), but I ended up having to make a live USB drive to install from instead. I saw that issue for the MAC. Yes. I have a second LAN card with manually changed MAC. ifocnfig eth1 hw ether 00:01:02:03:04:05 (not real just ex.) I`ve set it as a defalut executable in /etc/rc.local Another info I forgot. My PC is running on 4 GHz which is a 1 GHz oveclock. It`s E8400 form intel`s penyrn series, but I have to add that now that I recall I saw that bug in my old E4400 intel cpu on ubuntu 7.04... So the oveclock is no more suspicious. But back then I had no 2nd LAN card... :S Guess it has to do something with Intel CPUs May be a memory issue? Maybe with intel L2 cache or 64 bit support? My ubuntu is 32 bit...
