[Bug 333713] [NEW] need different wireless network settings for Telstra Next G card

2009-02-23 Thread Mikel Ward
Public bug reported:

I just got a Telstra BigPond PCMCIA/PC Card card.

To connect, I had to use different settings that the current Telstra
settings that Ubuntu provides.

The main problem is that the AT+CGDCONT=... command doesn't work, so
instead we need to dial a different GPRS number depending on the plan
we're on, meaning we probably need a separate connection template for
each permutation with this card.

In my case, using a casual internet plan on my mobile phone plan:
Number to dial: *99***3#
APN: must be empty

The list on my card is:
1 telstra.pcpack Data plan with time limit
2 telstra.datapackData plan with download limit
3 telstra.internetPhone plan

[Bug 333714] [NEW] pinnacle 72e ultimate edition random crash

2009-02-23 Thread flyapen
Public bug reported:

I am watching tv on ubuntu jaunty with the pinnacle 72e dvb stick ultimate
edition.
This works fine except for the random crashes that occur, I've tested it with
gxine
and klear. Sometimes sound disappears and after a couple of seconds the image
freezes.
The only solution than is to restart the application and everything works fine
again.
This freezes are random, I can watch tv for multiple hours without any problem
but it's
also possible that it freezes every ten minutes.
These seem unrelated to anything else.
I first filed this bug against gxine, but because it is probably a driver issue
I filed it again
here, I hope this is the correct package.

Thanks

You can ask people to download and run

  http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/scripts/apport-collect

It just needs python-apport (which is installed in Hardy by default)
and python-launchpadlib; it politely points out if the latter is
missing. However, that is only in the archive for intrepid, for hardy
we'd need a backport of launchpadlib first.

[Bug 291752] Re: [regression] cryptsetup does not work on raw encrypted drives

2009-02-23 Thread Martin Pitt
Sven, if you could test this new package in intrepid-proposed that would
be great (it should be available on archive.ubuntu.com in about 1.5
hours). Since this reverts the package to the exact state of intrepid
final, we can waive the 7 day maturing period here.

I propose to set the original bug to "wontfix" in Intrepid then, at
least until we found a rock solid solution in Jaunty. Or decide to
entirely drop support for non-LUKS partitions.

[Bug 314778] Re: Main inclusion for Google Gadgets

For now google-gadgets-xul is mandatory for google-gadgets-gtk. Removing it is
not an option. However, I just noticed that xulrunner-1.9 (used by
google-gadgets-xul) is actually in main rather than universe.
I'm wondering why it's not possible to put google-gadgets in main as well? I
think the situation of google-gadgets should be similar than firefox-3.0, which
is also in main and depends on xulrunner-1.9.

[Bug 318445] Re: ffmpeg won't convert flv to mp3

the error message in the bug description indicates an error to decode
the INPUT stream.

can you please attach that flv file? I'd like to check if it works with
ffplay.

btw, you can check if and how ffmpeg supports libmp3lame by running
'ffmpeg -formats'.

[Bug 333711] [NEW] AppArmor profile for sbin.dhclient3 should handle connman

2009-02-23 Thread Mark Shuttleworth
Public bug reported:

Connection manager ("connman") runs /sbin/dhclient using some specific
actions and stores leases in different locations to NetworkManager. The
new sbin.dhclient3 AppArmor profile prevents connman from acquiring an
IP address and storing the lease, I include a patch to the profile which
addresses that.

I'm not sure whether AppArmor configurations can extend one another. If
so, it may be better to extend the dhclient profiles (/sbin/dhclient3,
/sbin/dhclient-script, /usr/lib/connman/scripts/dhclient-script) in a
separate apparmor.d file added by the connman package. For the moment
this patch just extends the profile added by the dhcp3-client package.

[Bug 208620] Re: 8.04 beta: GeForce4 Ti 4200 + Dell M993c = low resolution

2009-02-23 Thread David Wilson
I think we can close this bug as it appears to be due to a hardware
fault in the monitor that is preventing the EDID information arriving at
the VGA port.

Only this monitor has this problem on this computer. I have tested
Jaunty Alpha-4 and the problem persists if the M993c is the only monitor
present.

It appears that if an EDID monitor is not found, the driver assumes an
old pre-EDID CRT is attached and limits the resolution to 800x600.

If I plug a different monitor into the 1st (alone) or 2nd (with the CRT
on the 1st) DE-15F on the video card, its EDID is read and is used to
set the maximum resolution (1680x1050 in this case).

[Bug 289928] Re: Bad keyboard configuration in gdm since 8.10rc update

2009-02-23 Thread Bryce Harrington
Can you tell me a bit more about your keyboard and its setup? I notice
that you have no keyboard settings in your xorg.conf, but in the
Xorg.0.log it is selecting the "fr" keyboard:

(**) AT Translated Set 2 keyboard: xkb_rules: "evdev"
(**) Option "xkb_model" "pc105"
(**) AT Translated Set 2 keyboard: xkb_model: "pc105"
(**) Option "xkb_layout" "fr"
(**) AT Translated Set 2 keyboard: xkb_layout: "fr"
(**) Option "xkb_variant" "oss"
(**) AT Translated Set 2 keyboard: xkb_variant: "oss"

One change that IIRC happened for 8.10 is that the Xorg keyboard
settings were taken from the console-setup settings you made during
installation. Do you recall if you originally selected a French layout?
This could explain why your system defaults to that. As to why it is
correct in the logged in session, could it be that you switched it back
to qwerty using System > Preferences > Keyboards? If you create a new
account, what keyboard does it get?

Please attach your /etc/default/console-setup file. And see if by
adjusting the contents of that file, if it fixes the issue on gdm for
you.

[Bug 8978] Re: Grub - Error 21 returned

2009-02-23 Thread db
Oh and i wanted to provide more information about both installs->
8.10 doesn't work for installation (no idea why) ... So i used ubuntu 8.04 set
up an encrypted lvm. I did the same on debian lenny (rc 1 disk ). Both
installations resulted in grub installing to the wrong disk. However, this time
both could boot.

I think, if any installer takes a copy of the mbr, saves it. Writes a
new mbr and then tests if it works, upon failing restores the old mbr
and prompts the user could be a good solution.

Sorry, can't corroborate this here. An initramfs generated after upgrade to
udev 138-2:

$ zcat /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-8-generic | cpio -tv|grep cryptroot

[Bug 332945] Re: [Jaunty] Removal of Update Notifier is WRONG

2009-02-23 Thread Noel J. Bergman
> Curses, our secret plan has been uncovered! Canonical is indeed trying to
> degrade Ubuntu,
> make it less secure, and drive average business and personal users away.

No one has said that there is any malicious intent. That's just a
defensive reaction on your part. But nor do we like the direction that
you have taken with this change.

> We discussed it publicly at the Ubuntu Developer Summit in December

Yes, I was there. Oh wait, no I wasn't. Nor was more than an
insignificant fraction of the Ubuntu community. Most of us first got
wind of the change when it dropped in our laps, and now we're letting
you know how we feel about it. And it isn't just one person
complaining. Actually, I'm still trying to find anyone who likes the
change. In the e-mail chain, people disagreed with you. In this bug
report, we disagree with you. And I certainly do not consider it
appropriate for you to mark the report as invalid, anymore than it would
be a generally acceptable policy for a reporter to mark their own bug as
confirmed.

So now lets get away from the irrelevant defensive nonsense and talk
about the problem:

> It's part of a long-term plan to clean up the notification area
> Of course the new behavior is a bit rough around the edges, but the problems
> are fixable.

The first is fine, and the second is a good starting point for your
admission.

The unfocused window solution is NOT the desired solution for that
"third kind" of notification as C Cooke classified it. And I really
don't care what technology is used to get it. The end result is what
matters, and I'm sure that a suitable solution can be found. After all,
it is all 1's and 0's in the end. But we want some sort of persistent,
dynamic, notice.

One way of looking at it is that this is a condition, not an event. it
may be set & cleared by events, but it is not an event - it is a
persistent condition.

[Bug 294905] Re: network manager frequently disconnects from secure networks in intrepid

2009-02-23 Thread Rocko
What does lspci say about your wireless card? eg are you using an Intel
4965 ABN card and trying to connect to an 11n network?

Hardy didn't support 11n mode on these cards, but the iwlagn driver in
Intrepid/Jaunty does, and it seems it has some problems with 11n
networks.

If you are using iwlagn, you can try disabling 11n with:

sudo modprobe -r iwlagn && sudo modprobe iwlagn 11n_disable=1

To make it permanent, add 'options iwlagn 11n_disable=1' to
/etc/modprobe.d/options.

[Bug 255956] Re: Editing or creating a photo album on facebook crashes browser.

2009-02-23 Thread dhughes
It happens to me; Ubuntu 8.10 (2.6.24-19-generic), sun-java6.jre
plugin, Firefox 3.0.6 and the new Facebook, when I go to the page where
you upload photo the Java photo uploader tries to start, you see a box,
then just white. Firefox hangs, there's nothing you can do, you can't
click a tab or do anything with Firefox. One of my CPU cores goes to
100%, sometimes the photo uploader will load but half the time I have to
kill the Firefox process, even End Process doesn't work sometimes you
have to kill it.

[Bug 277634] Re: Intel Pro/Wireless 4965 AG stops transferring data within a few minutes

2009-02-23 Thread Rocko
Does the problem only occur with 11N networks? I haven't had any issues
with my 4965AGN card on 11g networks, but with the only 11n I've found I
can't get a dhcp address (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/305338).

If the dropouts are only happening on 11n networks, maybe it's worth
disabling 11n in iwlagn and seeing if this stops the dropouts:

sudo modprobe -r iwlagn && sudo modprobe iwlagn 11n_disable=1

or add 'options iwlagn 11n_disable=1' to /etc/modprobe.d/options to make
it permanent.

[Bug 331768] Re: Use standard name for .desktop files

2009-02-23 Thread Chris Cheney
Heh, well I am intending to fix the desktop filenames to match RedHat to
help you out, but I meant that this probably should be standardized
somewhere so that issues like this don't crop up in the future. :-)
Relying on a pseudo-standard is prone to bugs, and it would be better
standardized if possible so you can blame others instead of having to
write work-arounds in your code. :-)

As indicated, this removed scrollkeeper in the process.

#ls -l /usr/bin/scrollkeeper-rebuilddb
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-02-23 23:40 /usr/bin/scrollkeeper-rebuilddb ->
rarian-sk-rebuild

Running the cron job (/etc/cron.monthly/scrollkeeper) which points at
the rarian-sk-rebuild command, doesn't yield any errors.

[Bug 278489] Re: vinagre local mouse pointer disappears

2009-02-23 Thread Rocko
Emilio, were you able to reproduce this?

It's more obvious if you do a remote connection over the web, since the
lag between the remote computer mouse and the vinagre mouse is greater
over a slow connection, so initially you will see two mouse pointers,
but you only get one when you move the mouse to another (non-vinagre)
window and back.

ie vinagre must be deliberately setting the local mouse pointer icon to
null (or a blank image) when it has focus. It doesn't do this initially,
but it does once the mouse moves out of vinagre and back in.

[Bug 325470] Re: Turning wireless switch on causes system to slow down

2009-02-23 Thread jpangamarca
@Id2ndR, Already downloaded Jaunty, but I can't report if this problem
is happening on Jaunty, since wireless connections are disabled. The
wireless card is recognized, but Ubuntu won't let me use wireless
networks, even if the switch is on, and of course, no slowdown ocurrs,
because it's like there wasn't a wireless network card; the Network
Applet says "wireless is disabled" and lsmod says that there's not any
'iwl4965' module loaded. I've found other issues on Jaunty as well,
where should I report them?

[Bug 333569] Re: OpenOffice2.4 covers Ubuntu task bar

2009-02-23 Thread Chris Cheney
The easiest way to fix this problem is to remove ~/.openoffice.org*
There is a setting that you can change somewhere in openoffice.org to
fix it but I don't know what it is.

[Bug 333687] [NEW] Please sync spamassassin 3.2.5-4 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-02-23 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 status confirmed

Please sync spamassassin 3.2.5-4 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

The last Ubuntu change had been incorporated by Debian, so there is no
diff.

Changelog since current jaunty version 3.2.5-2ubuntu1:

spamassassin (3.2.5-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * "Lintian, you will torment me no more!"
  * Add patches/60_fix-pod.dpatch to fix a whole mess of pod warnings
  * set -e in prerm, preinst, and postinst per policy
  * Add patches/70_fix-whatis.dpatch to fix lintian's complaints about
missing whatis entries in several manpages.
  * Fix some more man errors by shortening some long lines.

 -- Noah Meyerhans Mon, 23 Feb 2009 12:21:57 -0500

spamassassin (3.2.5-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Add an alternate dependency on libio-zlib-perl (>= 1.04) to ease
backporting (yeah, should have been done three uploads ago...)
  * Set myself as the Maintainer per Duncan's request.
  * Explicity set a umask (022) in /etc/cron.daily/spamassassin
  * Don't compress GPG.KEY, since we need to use it during postinst and
it's small.
  * Add Andrew Schulman's fix for sa-learn to properly handle a case
where an empty folder list is given as a source of training data.
