[Bug 366023] Re: Can't upgrade to Jaunty - video card not supported any more
Hi Bryce, My understanding from reading elsewhere is that this problem may be due to the fact that there are problems with the ATI fglrx driver with the new version of X being used in this release and that it isn't included in it for that reason, hence why it needs to be removed. I've added lspci output and the xorg.conf file - I can't do another run attempt at the moment as I have to rush away; if necessary I'll try to do that later, but if my understanding is right, there may be no point as the problem is explained. [Bug 363661] Re: USB startup disk is corrupt afer using restart to end live-session in daily build of Jaunty
Hello, sorry for the late reply. I was quite busiy with rolling out the new jaunty to all the computers I care for. The USB stick has FAT16. It is a Trekstore stick with 2GByte. The behavior appeared on this stick no matter I created it with the latest Intrepid USB installer, the Jaunty RC USB installer or Unetbootin using not the default option but the OEM option on booting. Now I tested it with the final Jaunty USB image copied with dd ... and it has the same behavior. Booting a live session and restarting creates a message Operating System not found. The boot menu to select the language does not appear as well as any other message. I have a Samsung NC10. ... Oh, ok. Now I plugged the USB stick after rebooting out and it works. But I am shure that before it was corrupted, because I tested it on my other notebook as well. With plugging on and off. Anyway, now it works, because the message says remove the boot media. Maybe the USB stick is in a not allowed state while powered on. Thank you for your help, sorry for any work I created! [Bug 368397] [NEW] After closing a dialog, a switch to another full-screen application occurs
Public bug reported: Situation: Application A is in full-screen mode and not minimized. However, I work with application B, which is not full-screen but in the foreground. B opens a dialog window. I close this dialog (e.g. by clicking on the "Ok" or "Yes" button). Now, Ubuntu does not switch back to the main window of B but to A. Thus, I have to use Alt-Tab to be able to resume my work with B. Hi all, It seems that I am pretty new for this issue. But from a point view of Ubuntu kernel team, we prefer to encourage Realtek or people like you guys to merge the driver to upstream mainline. [Bug 368395] [NEW] Edit OpenVPN Connectionin Kubuntu Jaunty - multiple UI issues, is useless
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager-openvpn Can't even get off the starting blocks with this one! Computer- Kubuntu 64-bit, originally Hardy then upgraded a week ago through Intrepid to Jaunty. OpenVPN connection through the little applet worked in Hardy. dpkg -s shows: network-manager: 0.7.1~rc4.1.cf199a964-0ubuntu2 network-manager-kde 1:0.7svn864988-0ubuntu8 network-manager-openvpn: 0.7.1~rc4.1.20090323+bzr27-0ubuntu2 networkstatus: 4:3.5.10-0ubuntu1~hardy3.1(relevance of this?) plasma-widget-network-manager: 0.0+svn930811-0ubuntu2 lsb_release -rd shows: Ubuntu 9.04 / release 9.04 uname -srmv shows: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_64 (This is I hope reasonably vanilla Jaunty with all available updates as at 2009-04-28) To reproduce: 1. Right click NM applet on Plasma panel, Select "Manage connections" 2. Go to VPN tab, select "Add" -> OpenVPN Observed: Connection name: "New VPN Connection" (remember this fact) Gateway: (blacnk, ok) Connection Type: X.509 Certificates CA File: __ + open file Username: __ Password: ___ BAD #1: Connection type is X.509 certs but it is asking for username and password? If you select a different connection type (eg preshared key) then back to X.509 certs, then appears as expected: CA File: ___ [file button] Certificate: __ [file button] Key: ___ [file button] So anyway 3. Toggle the connection type to get the right boxes, Set Connection name to say "Test One" , gateway, and pick the CA Cert, user cert & key Save and OK out of the 4. Single-click on on network status icon Observed: Under "VPN Connections" heading is "Test One" - so far ok. 5. Right click on network status icon and select "Manage Connections", VPN tab, select Test One, and click EDIT Observed: Connection Name: Test One (OK) , Gateway: as before (OK), Connection type: X.509 Certs. But ... have CA File, Username and Password boxes again (BAD #1 again) 6. Change connection type to Pre-shared-key and back to X.509 certificates Observed: CA file and (user) Certificate have come back to stored values, but Key field is empty. (BAD #2) 7. Pick the key file again. Also change the connection name to "Test Two", Click OK / OK out. 8. Single click on Network status icon Observed : Under the VPN connections, it is still listed as "Test One" (BAD #3) 9. Right click / Manage connections /VPN/ Test Two (as it is) / Edit 10. Go through all the rigmarole of ensureing the Certificate / key files are set 11. Click on "Optional Information" tab Observed: Port ___ [X] "Use default" is checked, nothing else is checked, all other fields disabled (OK so far but... 12a. Uncheck Use default port - > Port # textbox does not enable 12b. Check "User cipher" -> combo box does not enable 12c. Check "Use TLS Auth" -> nothing changes 12d Check "Only use VPN for these addresses" -> edit box does not enable BAD #4 Summary BAD #1 = Initial state of fields for Certificate files/credentials are wrong (should match whatever initial connection type). On New and edit. BAD #2 = Value of "Key file" apparently not remembered (may be symptom of #1, but it remembers the others) BAD #3 = popup from Network Status icon shows old name even if connection renamed (not sure when it resets, restart of widget?) BAD #4 = Nothing seems to work on the "Optional Information" tab The combination of these pretty much eliminates any attempt by me to use this to attach to my OpenVPN server. I can't even be bothered with it, sorry. [Bug 368394] [NEW] netbook launcher mouse focus is off
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: netbook-launcher I am using a ThinkPad X40 running Ubuntu 9.04 UNR. netbook-launcher works fine with the keyboard (tab + cursor keys), but not with the mouse. The cursor's focus seems to be off, so that icons that are not underneath the cursor get selected. This only seems to be affecting the horizontal axis. All other applications have no issues. This issue also occurred when booting from a USB stick with the Ubuntu 9.04 UNR USB image. [Bug 350370] Re: [jaunty] Intel WiFi Link 5100/iwlagn not working
Same or similar issue on an Asus N50Vn (WiFi link 5100) with a fresh install of jaunty release and a WPA2 personal network. I would get one "green light" in NetworkManager for a long time, and then NM would ask for my password again. Looking at kern.log it appeared as if the authentication nearly succeeded but then the module would hit a microcode error. The same sequence would repeat several times in the log before I was prompted for my password. It would however join unprotected networks. However, this evening I found a workaround; passing the module option "11n_disable=1" to the iwlagn module allowed it to authenticate to my 802.11g network. [Bug 366678] Re: 9.04 fails to boot on HP DV2-1030US laptop
I also have an HP dv2 1030us and had the same problem booting the install CD. It seems to be a problem recognising the external DVD drive. Here's what I did to get the install CD to boot: 1 ) I changed the kernel boot options by removing "quiet splash" and adding "debug break=mount". 2) Once the busy box prompt appeared, I waited for the CD to stop spinning and unplugged the external CD drive. 3) I then plugged the drive back in, and it was recognized. The devices /dev/sdb, /dev/sr0, and /dev/scd0 were created which weren't there before. 4) Exiting from busy box will allow the cd to finish booting. [Bug 321544] Re: Persistence Slider Wrong; Takes more than 3 hours to produce largest persistence file
I didn't actually apply these patches directly. I updated mine (0.1.15) manually. Read the man page of dd. The size of the file that dd creates is equal to the product of the blocksize and the count. In the 0.1.11 the block size is 1 byte and the count is 'persist' (ie the number of bytes you wanted your persistence file to be). Having a block size of 1 byte was problematic and that prompted this bug report. Apparently later someone decided to fix it but swung things to the opposite extreme. So you see in 0.1.16 that now the blocksize is set to 'persist' (the size you want) and the count is set to 1. So instead of a huge number of blocks that are too small, now it is trying to make a single block that is too large (dd won't allow > 2GB). To fix this you set the block size to something appropriate like in the 1KB-1MB range for most common cases, and then you calculate the count so that it gives you the filesize you requested. If you look at John Gruber's patch at the top of this bug report you see this change: popen(['dd', 'if=/dev/zero', 'bs=1024', 'of=%s/casper-rw' % target, 'count=%s' % (persist/1024)]) He set the block size to 1024 (ie 1 KB) and the count is set to persist/1024 (ie the size of your persitence file divided by the blocksize). That is why I referred to this thread in my bug report. This patch for the old problem in 0.1.11 is correct and what is currently in 0.1.16 is incorrect. -- Persistence Slider Wrong; Takes more than 3 hours to produce largest persistence file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/321544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 364933] Re: USB External Storage not detected at Bootup
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 344406 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344406 Same problem for me (and thank you, Steven, for your answer to my own question...I searched quite a bit but didn't find this bug or its duplicate). lsusb was showing my usb hard drive, but the system wasn't recognizing it as disk space (through blkid or fdisk -l) unless I unplugged it and plugged it back in after startup. Adding usb_storage to /etc/modules fixed it. This is ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic amd64. The same usb hard drive connected to my laptop (running 9.04 i386) has no problems. -- USB External Storage not detected at Bootup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/364933 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 367350] Re: MPlayer cannot play flash video (FLV) with H.264
Attached is an example to reproduce the bug: an FLV video encoded with H.264/AVC, download from youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42E2fAWM6rA) I'm not sure if this video is cc-licensed, but since the youtube page allows embedding, I assume redistributing in a non-commercial way is permitted? ** Attachment added: "An flv video downloaded from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42E2fAWM6rA"; http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26055365/Lost_Generation_videoplayback.flv -- MPlayer cannot play flash video (FLV) with H.264 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367350 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

RE: [Bug 238208] Re: Need MemoryStick driver Ricoh R5C822 chipset
I have not found any working ways to resolve this issue short of dual booting. In a host/client virtualization, the client only has virtualized access to the hardware that is installed by the host OS and identified by the virtualization program. [Bug 315698] Re: 9.04 hibernate hangs as it wakes up
Hello, for me also the same problem, i.e. with Ubuntu 9.04 and all updates installed, hibernate works fine, but on resuming the system the system freezes and the keyboard and the mouse are freezed. -- 9.04 hibernate hangs as it wakes up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 359517] Re: kstars does not support indi
The targeting for 9.10 means that it *should* be done before Karmic is released. It doesn't really mean anything for Jaunty. The problem is, we can't promote libindi0 or indi-dev to Main in Jaunty and we can't make kstars dep on them either. So it looks like we need to figure out a way to make kstars work with indi (0.5) in order to fix this bug in Jaunty. -- kstars does not support indi https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359517 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
