[Bug 362203] Re: Skype high CPU use on 9.04 using pulse (and audio recording/sending delay >5sec)

2009-05-26 Thread Vitaly
Yes, using pulseaudio with skype in 9.04 gives a leak of memory, but
fortunately it is possible to avoid using pulseaudio with skype. First,
I changed my sound settings (System->Preferences->Sound->Detault mixer
tracks) to HDA Intel (Alsa mixer). Then in Skype I changed all three
sound device options (sound in, sound out, ring) to HDA Intel. After
that Skype works well without leak of memory.

[Bug 341952] Re: ath5k locks up system in jaunty - "ath5k phy0: noise floor calibration timeout"

2009-05-26 Thread Nicholas Coltharp
I'm having a similar problem.

I'm using an Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI
Express Adapter (rev 01) with the ath5k module. Every now and then, my
system freezes, but I don't know if that's the wireless's fault.
However, it DOES always happen right when I'm trying to connect, so I
think I have reasonable suspicion.

Furthermore, every so often, my ethernet simply refuses to connect. It
will detect the networks, but it won't be able to connect to any of
them, and I get the same messages that you posted. When this happens,
resetting only makes the problem worse: all of the networks become
invisible.

The ONLY way that I have found to fix this problem is to restart, hook
the computer up to a network physically, log in, wait for the network to
connect, and then unplug. Then, for some reason, my network works again.

[Bug 234480] Re: autofs hangs when server unavailable

2009-05-26 Thread dmizer
Yes, the soft option solves the problem on all of my machines from Hardy
to Jaunty (Ubuntu, Xubuntu, and Kubuntu). The file system remains
responsive (though slow) even after the server is disconnected, and a
simple "sudo umount /mountpoint" returns the file system to a normal
state.

Ugh ... wrong bug: My comment addresses bug ->
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nfs-utils/+bug/164120 and
landed here because these two bugs have been mistakenly marked as
duplicates.

Bug 164120 address NFS concerns for when the server gets disconnected
while the client is connected. Bug 234480 addresses NFS concerns for
when the server is unavailable to the client during boot. Please remove
the duplication and move my above comments to bug 164120 if possible.

[Bug 380500] [NEW] Defunct Fuser Childs in Cameramonitor

2009-05-26 Thread Zero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cameramonitor

Ubuntu Jaunty 32-bit Camera Monitor 0.2-2

Camera Monitor spawns "fuser" and the process goes defunct for a little
time, also it keeps respawning new fuser proceses rotating the PIDS more
often.

Solution: Don't use child processes (fuser) for file monitoring, if
possible conduct the test using python internal machinery (I think there
should be one way).

A more elegant solution is to use dbus to notify that the camera is in
use through a signal, thus eliminating the dependence of /dev nodes,
allows to manage multiple video devices and makes it possible to discern
between webcams, camcorders or tuners and capture devices. Also
notification is displayed almost instantly without a grace period.

[Bug 375604] Re: Sync mksh 37.3-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-05-26 Thread Thorsten Glaser
This is actually a compiler bug fixed in gcc-snapshot:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-defaults/+bug/352475

I suppose with this and https://bugs.launchpad.net/dash/+bug/348872
it doesn’t make sense to drop the -ubuntu1 delta altogether.

The debconf stuff should be removed unless karmic fixes the issues
when running with mksh as /bin/sh I had on my hardy PC at work,
and the 「-combine」 option to mksh/Build.sh uses the gcc options
「-fwhole-program --combine」 which trigger the aforementioned
bug in certain versions of gcc.

Is it desirable if I make a package for karmic based on the Debian
sid one, test it in a chroot, and submit it (where/how)?

2009-05-26 Thread Paul van Genderen
I found the problem: I was running tasksel in another terminal, as a

1. run tasksel (not as root)
2. install (or configure) bridge-utils

utils.

[Bug 380506] [NEW] bash completion for gvim is incorrect

The program 'gvim' can be found in the following packages:

Try: sudo apt-get install

I am attaching my output for

[Bug 380511] [NEW] installation of HomeBank removes ING 'HomeBank

2009-05-26 Thread Robert Persson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: homebank

I recently installed KDE on my Jaunty system and it seems that in the
process my bank's home banking security software was removed. It was
ING's 'HomeBank (with the apostrophe), which I had downloaded as a deb
from http://ing.be, and which was installed in the folder /opt/homebank.
I presume that the culprit is homebank. There is obviously a naming
problem here. I presume from the apostrophe that the one that ships with
KDE is the rightful owner of the name. I know that ING is about as
responsive as Belgian and Dutch organisations often are, but maybe if
someone were to contact them on behalf of the world's most popular Linux
distribution, something could be done to improve the situation.

flicker. The computer starts responding slowly, although this could just
be because of the large number of events being generated by g-p-m. While
this is happening, changing the brightness manually using shortcut keys
works, but g-p-m continues to change the brightness. The only way to
stop this is to manually killall gnome-power-manager

Also, I'm unable to login to a virtual terminal during this time as the
password prompt fills up with @ symbols, which is the symbol that is
output when my brightness -up and -down shortcuts are activated. It's as
though the key is stuck down (dw, I checked and its not).

Attached is the output from g-p-m --verbose. I did not change the
brightness while it was logging.

This is on an MSI Wind U100 netbook. This did not happen using any
previous versions of Ubuntu

[Bug 380508] [NEW] FTBFS fix on ARM for gnome-power-manager

2009-05-26 Thread Michael Casadevall
Public bug reported:

gnome-power-manager currently FTBFSes due to -Werror. On ARM, it
generates a warning because it needs to resize a structure to be larger;
as g-p-m isn't using that structure to send something to another machine
this resize is safe, and the warning can be ignored.

[Bug 140732] Re: Square roots not correctly rendered in MathML

2009-05-26 Thread Alessandro Polverini
Actual behavior seems worse than with FF2.

Just follow the link to see what I mean: while now the square root seems
to work there is something more that get not interpreted and the page is
full of tags rendering it unreadable.

The problem exhibits also on the other pages of the test:
http://www.w3.org/Math/testsuite/testsuite/TortureTests/Complexity/complex2.xml
http://www.w3.org/Math/testsuite/testsuite/TortureTests/Complexity/complex3.xml
http://www.w3.org/Math/testsuite/testsuite/TortureTests/Complexity/complex4.xml

Anyway accessing the page from
http://www.w3.org/Math/testsuite/mml2-testsuite/index.html
seems to yield a correct result so I don't know if the problem is normal or not
(I think not)

[Bug 380487] Re: unsetenv() crashes after clearenv()

2009-05-26 Thread Chris Coulson
Do you think that is actually a bug, or something that you should just
not do as a programmer?

"If the application modifies environ or the pointers to which it points,
the behavior of unsetenv() is undefined. The unsetenv() function shall
update the list of pointers to which environ points."

Running clearenv() clearly modifies environ (it sets it to NULL), and so
you should expect the behaviour of unsetenv to be undefined after
running this (and perhaps even crash in the way that you see)

[Bug 320526] Re: jaunty 2.6.28 freezes on pcmcia detection during boot

2009-05-26 Thread Simon Holm Thøgersen
Good, you should see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild
this page for how to checkout the sources from git and build a kernel in
general. It should be straigthforward to follow, but just ask if you
have any questions.

After step 3, you should do the following before going to step 4.

git checkout v2.6.23

This will checkout the upstream 2.6.23 kernel, which will effectively
establish whether the regression went in between 22 and 23 or 23 and 24.
My guess is it was in the latter, but we'll see.

The build will take quite a while, so you might want to use step 6 and
disable a lot of modules you don't use. Alternatively, you can try the
following script (after step 5) that automatically will try to disable
unused modules, by doing the following

wget http://rostedt.homelinux.com/code/streamline_config.pl
perl streamline_config.pl

Since the script is not perfect this customization may lead to build
errors. In that case you can repeat the process from step 4 without the
customizations. Or you can simply skip any customization, the only cost
is extra build time.

Again, any questions, just ask.

[Bug 370012] Re: minicom draws garbage when gnome-terminal is maximized

2009-05-26 Thread Sebastian Wiesinger
Hi,

I also noticed that minicom is resizing gnome-terminal to 80 columns.
This only happens with gnome-terminal not with e.g. xterm.

This is quite annoying because some routers/switches display log lines
longer than 80 columns and don't do linewraps. To see the log I now have
to start xterm first before starting minicom. This is a possible
workaround but I would prefer that minicom wouldn't resize the windows.

I don't know if this is a problem with minicom or with gnome-terminal...

[Bug 336125] Re: Broken audio playback with Intel 82801G (Realtek ALC883) on 9.04

2009-05-26 Thread diehardlinux
I recently installed 9.04 from the live cd (previous using 8.04 stable).
I experienced the same bug with my Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7
Family) High Definition Audio Controller on board card. I tried to
install alsa from src but the sound preference ended up resetting itself
sometime between playing a radio stream through rhythm box. Now the
sound no longer works when set to alsa playback. Downgrading to the 8.10
kernel is not an option worth considering for myself.

I do prefer alsa due to the fact that I use Wolfenstein and would like
to hear pidgin sounds when I have a message during the game. So yeah
this is a big deal with this bug.

Please take notice to the sound bug...

[Bug 375852] Re: sqllite doesn't support tables with names such as release or savepoint

2009-05-26 Thread jfding
Good news, now I can use and yum and mic2 of moblin now.
I have tried several versions of libsqlite3, and found the followings can work:
> older version 3.5.9-3 from Intrepid
> latest version from sqlite.org 3.6.14-1
but the proposed one in current Jaunty repo, 3.6.10-1 still cannot work in my
box.
It's strange, I hope in next upgrade of sqlite3, this problem can be skipped.

[Bug 368457] Re: Sierra Wireless AirCard USBConnect 881U does not work in Jaunty 9.04

2009-05-26 Thread Andrew Evans
So whatever is in the AT&T Firmware is solving the problem and doesn't
appear to be in the firmware of other providers (such as Telstra in my
case).

bazookatooth raises a good point.

Who is actually working this issue from the Ubuntu team? This is
important functionality for mobile people.

[Bug 380515] [NEW] xorg crashed with 'double free or corruption' in gdm log

2009-05-26 Thread Alex Shulgin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I was working through my presentation in OOffice and suddenly when I've
opened some menu the screen get garbled and Xorg restarted in a few
seconds.

I was using OpenOffice presentations, The GIMP, Evince, Emacs and
terminal for a few hours. I've used these apps for the last few hours,
overall machine uptime was around 23 hours.

I'm on jaunty (upgraded from intrepid) with xorg-1:7.4~5ubuntu18. This
never happened to me on this machine before.

Attaching xorg and gdm logs with crash dump.

[Bug 380346] Re: BKchem using python2.6 crashed with SIGSEGV in Tcl_CreateHashEntry()

2009-05-26 Thread Daniel Leidert
These reports are IMO all related and the culprit seems to be blt (via
python-pmw):

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=525860
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=524149
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/blt/+bug/359857

I'm not in favor of introducing a conflicts-relationship, just because a
package has bugs.

[Bug 344150] Re: Sony Ericsson V640i not detected when plugged in via USB

2009-05-26 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Matt,

Have you heard anything back from Sony yet? Can you comment if this
worked with any previous Ubuntu release? Would you also be willing to
test and see if the latest upstream vanilla kernel works -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . I'd recommend trying the
latest 2.6.30-rc7 release. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

[Bug 372232] Re: kernel 2.6.28 from 2.6.27 prevents Alcor reader working

2009-05-26 Thread Simon Holm Thøgersen
Thanks Gary. I think this problem should be easy to solve for others
that know more about automatic loading of modules than I do, so for the
sake of making it possible for others to skip right to working on a
solution, can you please verify that the following is correct?

The executive summary is that with 2.6.28-11 the module usb-storage is
not automatically loaded such that your and other users' internal Alcor
SD card readers aren't working. Manually modprobing usb-storage works
around the problem. 2.6.27 was fine.

PS. As for usb-storage vs. usb_storage I believe it should work both
ways when using modprobe, at least it does in my Gentoo.

[Bug 380487] Re: unsetenv() crashes after clearenv()

2009-05-26 Thread Timo Sirainen
In my opinion it's a bug. My application doesn't modify environ
directly, glibc does via clearenv() and I'd expect glibc not to crash
when only using its own environment manipulation functions. Also there's
no problems using clearenv() and unsetenv() together as long as there is
at least one putenv() in the middle.

BTW. This is also causing deliver program in dovecot package to crash
with a specific configuration file.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 359857] Re: blt does not work as currently packaged
