[Bug 384711] [NEW] [needs-packaging] sakura

2009-06-07 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

sakura is a terminal emulator based on GTK and VTE. It's a terminal
emulator with few dependencies, so you don't need a full GNOME desktop
installed to have a decent terminal emulator.

[Bug 375285] Re: jaunty constant overheating

2009-06-07 Thread kblc
I have the same problem on HP tx2000 laptop. It seems to be the problem
with NVidia videocard (or chipset?). It works fine and temperature is
moderate (50~70 C) unless you try to watch flash videos - then it
overheats in about 10 minutes.

My laptop at work has an intel integrated videocard, and that doesn't
happen at all there (of course, I don't watch youtube videos that often
there, but still...)

I've tried to do a fresh install, and not installing the proprietary
nvidia drivers, but the problem is still there, so it's clearly not a
driver issue.

Anyway, hope this will be figured out soon.

HEllo,

I have the same problem on my Dell vostro 1710 with Jaunty.
I noticed a thing in my case: the problem arises when I used the battery. When
it is plugged into the AC power supply, it works always, but in case of using
the battery power without connection to the AC, the problem arises always. Can
this be due to some kind of power saving option activated on battery power
during boot?

[Bug 290498] Re: linux-rt restricted to one CPU

2009-06-07 Thread Rob van den Berg
@Realtime Dutchman
Have you got a amd64 build for the rt-kernel, or could you give me instructions
how to do it ?

I've build an rt-kernel in the last couple of weeks following the advice
from vivichrists post https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
rt/+bug/290498/comments/26 and the Master Kernel Thread
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=311158.

Somehow I end up with a huge kernel image (200+ mb) and pulseaudio
becomes very unstable (unusable) and flash (youtube etc) becomes
unusable because of the pulseaudio thing.

greetings from a fellow dutchman

All - as I can't reproduce this, unless one of you has some Perl experience

[Bug 288185] Re: Evolution plain-text email includes formatting "stuff" - should be pure plain text

2009-06-07 Thread Simon Bridge
I can add info to this behavior:

It is not restricted to plain-text mode - also occurs in html.

The inconvenience is that it become impossible to split lines in the
quote, say, to insert a reply.

The workaround is to copy the text inside the format box and then past-
as-quotation to the end - then erase the entire format box.

Examining the page source when this happens shows me that the original
email was formatted using a table. Splitting a line in the quote would
involved adding additional tags to end the row, the columb, and the
table, then restart it again.

The formatting seems to be to allow some services to add advertising, or
other non-user message, to a footer below the email text.

[Bug 384706] [NEW] Please merge ifenslave-2.6(1.1.0-13)(main) from debian unstable(main)

2009-06-07 Thread Bhavani Shankar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ifenslave-2.6

Debian has a new version to be merged

ifenslave-2.6 (1.1.0-13) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Apply patch from Nicolas de Pesloüan:
 .
 - Manage primary change not only in if-pre-up.d/ifenslave but also
   in if-post-down.d/ifenslave.
 - Move $VERBOSITY test (in if-post-down.d/ifenslave) outside of the
slave loop, because VERBOSITY won't change inside the loop.
 - After ifdown of a slave, ensure slave is still enslaved before
forcing it to be free. (This remove a warning in syslog).
 - Fix a typo in a comment in if-pre-up.d/ifenslave.
 - Fix a variable name error in an error message in
   if-pre-up.d/ifenslave.
 - Use /sys/class/net//master/bonding/primary instead of
/sys/class/net//bonding/primary to get the name of
current primary, for "bond-give-a-chance" (in if-up.d/ifenslave).
This remove the mandatory "bond-master" requirement.
 - Enhance README.Debian.

 ifenslave-2.6 (1.1.0-12) unstable; urgency=low

   * Replace pre-up and post-down scripts with new ones provided by Nicolas de
 Pesloüan:

 - Add a VERBOSE mode, with set -x, for debugging purpose.
 - Suppress any reference to /sbin/ifenslave. Write to
/sys/class/net/*/bonding/slaves instead. /sbin/ifenslave is now useless
from the ifupdown point of view.
 - modprobe for $IFACE before modprobe bonding, to give a chance to alias
   and alias'options in /etc/modprobe.conf or /etc/modprobe.d/* .
 - Handle some new options (bond-enslave, bond-enslave-timeout,
   bond-enslave-interval, bond-active-slave) and a new usage of
bond-primary, all targeted at slave interfaces. Using those new options,
one is able to postpone enslavement of a slave at the time the slave
become available (due to hotplug or for administrative reasons). ifup
will wait for the bonding interface to be ready and then enslave IFACE
   to it.
 - Add a new option bond-slaves, as an alias (and possibly a replacement)
for option slaves. Every options related to bonding should start with
   bond-.
 - Add a comment about the "none" value of (bond-)slaves option.
 - Add a comment about a possible way to do more generic option management.
 - Remove any current master-slave relationship (with master if the
interface is a slave and with all the currently enslaved slaves if the
interface is a master), instead of relying on the configuration in
   /etc/network/interfaces.

Do you still have this problem with the new version of OOo in the ppa at
https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive ? I can't reproduce this
bug with OOo 3.1 in Karmic and the ppa.

  Binary package hint: xorg

When going into graphical boot on an ia64, when X starts up, the USB

[Bug 384643] Re: credentials.get_request_token function causes a segmentation fault

2009-06-07 Thread Rick Spencer
Ok, the secret to causing the seg fault seems to be that I am running the
application UI on a thread, starting gtk.main() in a context like this:
 gtk.gdk.threads_init()
 gtk.gdk.threads_enter()
 gtk.main()
 gtk.gdk.threads_leave()

When I comment out gtk.gdk.threads_enter(), and gtk.gdk.threads_leave()
the program does not seg fault.

[Bug 384697] [NEW] Horribly slow startup

2009-06-07 Thread Andy Zebrowitz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Let's say I boot my machine, start X, and run Firefox. All well and
good.

Then I go to Firefox's address bar and type the letter "S".

Now I have to wait for thirty seconds while Firefox apparently loads
every URL I may have visited in the past year and half which might
contain the letter "S", during which time it not only locks up the
browser, but the entire X environment, so I can't even switch between
windows. When it's FINALLY done I may, thank you very much, use my
browser, and the rest of my desktop.

The "awesome bar" is a resource-hogging abomination on its own, but if
it must remain, *nothing* should *ever* keep me from switching to other
windows while any application loads. *Nothing*.

I do not think the English language has words to accurately describe how
infuriating this is. I realise that the "awesome bar" horsebull is
Mozilla's deal, but if a window becomes unresponsive because of some
application misbehaving, there is NO REASON the entire desktop should
become unusable waiting for it to finish.

[Bug 384695] [NEW] On ia64, starting X causes USB keyboard and mouse to become non-responsive until X is stopped

2009-06-07 Thread Michael Casadevall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When going into graphical boot on an ia64, when X starts up, the USB
keyboard and mouse used by my desktop no longer is available (X itself
however fully comes up to the gdm startup screen). If the machine is
SSHed into and GDM is stopped, the keyboard is available when the system
returns to the console. It isn't possible to do a VT switch, or put in
any input; the cursor next to Username: however suggests the system is
not frozen. No obvious signs out of output in dmesg and friends
(attached with ubuntu-bug).

[Bug 271706] Re: Volume control wheel on laptop is sticking in ubuntu

2009-06-07 Thread jetdog
Hmm, this is just a random thought, but perhaps you might be able to
write a hacked version of xf86-input-evdev based on the "value" returned
by the volume key events (it seems the kernel knows something we don't?
:D ). I noticed that for the R4000, the volume keys do not generate
value = 0 OR value = 1... they ONLY generate value = 2 for volume keys
(when i compare it to other key events, i believe it means that the key
is being held "down").

Is it possible that this is the same for the U300 ? If it is... then we
may have a means of identifying these "problem" keyboards within evdev -
compliant drivers.

You should test the other quirky machines, for their reported "values"
with sudo evtest /dev/input/eventX (keyboard) -- to see if they too
only create value = 2 events for volume "keys" -- just a thought for a
generic solution :)

I'm not sure if these "value" outputs from evtest are the same values
seen within the source of input-evdev... but if these problem machines
have a lot in common, we may have a way of disabling auto-repeat similar
to your hack.

[Bug 384692] [NEW] Need option to disable mouse "back" and "forward"

2009-06-07 Thread kavaliro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I, and (hundreds of) thousands like me, need to be able to disable the
forward/backward mouse buttons. Other programs use those buttons, and
"It's not our problem, go configure your drivers," is the wrong answer.
I can do that, but I shouldn't have to. I shouldn't have to turn my
computer upside down and reconfigure half a dozen programs when only one
is misbehaving. I'm not even asking that you add it to the gui: I'm
perfectly happy with configuring firefox to refrain from hijacking my
mouse in about:config, if this is an option.

A quick google search will show that this is a real user interface
problem that annoys the crap out of just about everyone who owns a mouse
with more than two buttons and a scrollwheel. Can someone please provide
a real solution to this? Thanks in advance.
