Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please answer these questions:

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
 * Do you get an error on the command line on the first run?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

[Bug 382233] Re: crashes with merging cells in table

2009-06-08 Thread Chris Cheney
I can't reproduce this on Karmic amd64 openoffice.org 1:3.1.0-3ubuntu2

since there is a video of this crashing and I will need to test on i386
to see if that is what is causing the problem.

[Bug 369567] Re: Google Earth crashes system in 9.04

2009-06-08 Thread Oliver Joos
I also found a workaround: just turn off View - Atmosphere. Then
Google Earth seems stable even while rendering many 3D buildings! See 3
comments above for some specs of my systems.

Without any success I tried GE 5.0 and 4.3, the latest drivers from
xorg-edgers and different values in xorg.conf (I tried different values
for AccelMethod, AccelDFS, EnablePageFlip, ColorTiling and
FBTexPercent).

[Bug 231575] Re: ATAPI devices malfunctioning

2009-06-08 Thread Jesse Gilles
I can also confirm that this still exists in the jaunty kernel with
pata_via. Using jaunty, libata doesn't throttle the bus speed down
repeatedly anymore, but still disables the device. Has anyone found any
activity in the kernel lists about this? I did some searching, but
found mostly old entries that didn't look like they were going to lead
to a fix.

Re: [Bug 379157] Re: [i945G] Samsung TV not detected on VGA output (no screens)

2009-06-08 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
From what I have seen from other users, there hasn't been a whole lot
of performance change between 2.4.1 and 2.7.1. Many users report
significant improvement for 2.7.99.1 which is in Karmic now. It will
probably be 2.7.8 by the time Karmic is out, and hopefully it will be
with a solution to your problem. So I would suggest that you keep the
package that is working for you at the moment.

Now, upstream will have to figure out if the best way to solve this
problem is to outright revert the problematic patch or do something
different. You will probably be asked to test another patch soon, but
it may take a little while. You may take a look this bug (which is
similar except that a VGA was sometimes detected when it wasn't there)
for how things may proceed:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20463
Hopefully, it won't take as long, though.

[Bug 384833] [NEW] After locale change, default folders duplicate, crash when changing settings

2009-06-08 Thread Fionn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Affected: all Versions of Evolution I ever used (currently: 2.22.3.1)
Distro: Ubuntu Hardy (with all updates up to Jun 08 2009)

Description:
I once used Evolution with default (English) locale. Later, I switched from
Debian to Ubuntu and began using evolution with German locale. Some time after
switching, I recognized that the default section folders in the sidebar had
been duplicated. That means: In the Address book section I have a category On
this Computer and Auf diesem Computer (the latter being the same as the
first in English). Moreover I have Personal, respectively Persönlich
Address books in both of them which apparently are pointing to the same
physical database.

I attached a screenshot for visualization of the problem.

In the Calendar and Task list this behaviour gets very irritating
because all Personal appointments show up twice in the calendar until
I switch one of the duplicate translations off manually. Moreover, I can
no longer change settings like Calendar/Task entry colors for Personal
section (They are pink, I hate pink :-]).

In the screenshot you can nicely see, that one of the Personal localisations
has green color icon attached, the other has none. the entries of the
Non-color localisation appear in pink (see screenshot). Which one of the
localizations is green appears to be randomly changing (probably a race
condition at startup).
If I try to change settings for the section folder that has no color icon,
Evolution crashes.

I'd really like to get rid of the On this Computer section permanently
but since it is a default section it can not be removed. Even if it
could I would be afraid to lose data because it points to the same data
as the localized section folder.

What can I do to get rid of those duplicate entries in my calendar and
tasks? Maybe there is an XML file I can manipulate or anything else?

[Bug 384680] Re: Slow when large amount of memory used, even if plenty left

2009-06-08 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
I'll just mention that I tried booting this machine with mem=392M. This
makes it quite sluggish, but it is still moderately responsive with 2
epiphany tabs open and 7 firefox tabs open... much better than with the
full 4GB, but running memtester -m 3600 above. I would expect that the
speed would be exactly the same (except for having memtester using 1 of
my two cores, but that shouldn't make much difference when IO bound).

[Bug 372451] Re: package bug-buddy 2.24.1dfsg-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: package bug-buddy is already installed and configured

2009-06-08 Thread Michael Vogt

Thanks for your bugreport.

Could you please attach your /var/lib/dpkg/status and /var/log/dpkg.log
files?

Could you please then run (in a terminal):
$ sudo apt-get install virtualbox --simulate
and attach the output?

What method did you used to install ? Add/remove? Synaptic? Terminal
with apt-get? Something else?

Thanks,
 Michael

[Bug 384833] Re: After locale change, default folders duplicate, crash when changing settings

2009-06-08 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
which version were you using in debian? that's totally a corruption
between version and locales, you might want to delete your evolution
folder (~/.evolution) and start with a blank profile, i don't think
there's code to manage such issues. Backup your profile and try deleting
your profile, or send this upstream at bugzilla.gnome.org where the
upstream authors can read about it and maybe find a solution for that.

[Bug 380650] Re: kvm hangs on AMD

2009-06-08 Thread Bradley Hook
This same behavior is happening for me with 9.04 hosts and vms. Using
hardware acceleration on an AMD dual core processor. I had one running
over the weekend that started doing this, and I can confirm that the VM
doesn't completely hang, it just shoots to 100% CPU (in my case 100% of
the one core it's allowed to use) and continues very very slowly
(presumably with 120 second timeout for every operation). It does dump
error messages to the console, but I neglected to record them before
killing the instance. The first VM on the system has been running the
whole time with no issues, only the second and third (which are running
the same software) are having issues.

Indeed, it seems to be something run in the background; it doesn't show
up in the strace as far as I can see. Maybe lsb_release needs to ensure
that its Python module is always available, rather than requiring itself
to be configured first; we've had some discussion around that. It'll
need an extension to python-support first, though.

[Bug 384474] Re: sound-juicer crashed with Segmentation fault after Extract button pressed

2009-06-08 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 236602] Re: No applications available for photo editing if Gnome is not installed

2009-06-08 Thread Harald Sitter
Woohoo, the magics of standards.
@Jonathan: That would not change anything because that only updates the ksycoca
but not freedesktop stuff (because by spec the installing application is
supposed to do that stuff, not the desktop's implementation of the freedesktop
standards), fspot being a mono/gtk+ app, doesn't care about ksycoca though ;-)

@Milan: The fact that GNOME uses it, doesn't mean that update-desktop-
database is a standard, which to my knowledge it is not. It is a
freedesktop.org software project, but no more and no less than that.
Calling it a standard is like saying Tango is a standard, which would
make GNOME not comply with the standard.

Anyway.
Lets recap.
* The freedesktop specifications/standards for desktop files (which list
associated mimetypes) and for shared-mime (which lists mimetypes that can be
used by desktop files) do not define update-desktop-database as standard of any
kind, neither do they reference desktop-files-utils
* The freedesktop shared-mime spec however, lists update-mime-database as tool
of choice for updating the possible mimetypes (which should be working just
fine, because that is implemented in KDE)
* The linking of application=mimetype is, just like managing the list of
applications, up to the desktop's specific implementation (as suggested in the
desktop-entry-spec)
* fspot either does not use GNOME's builtin parser, or GNOME in fact uses
update-desktop-database as default parser. So, either fspot needs to depend on
desktop-file-utils or the GNOME library that is responsible for reading the
data provided by update-desktop-database needs to depend on desktop-file-utils.

[Bug 384852] [NEW] OpenOffice.org writer can't open ODT files from sftp folders

2009-06-08 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When accessing a folder over SFTP (or SSH, should be the same) using
nautilus, double click on an ODT file opens it in the archive manager.
The RMB menu for an ODT file on an SFTP folder only offers archive
manager or archive mounter, while when opening the properties dialog
for such a file, in the Open With tab, OpenOffice.org Writer is
clearly listed and selected as the default option.

Even starting Writer directly from the menu and using the Open file
command to browse to the SFTP folder (which is listed as an active mount
point) doesn't work - after selecting the file and clicking Open,
nothing happens: Writer just sits there doing nothing.

the only workaround is to copy the file to a local folder, edit it, save
it and copy it back.

[Bug 383499] Re: [needs-packaging] kflickr-kde4

2009-06-08 Thread Charlie_Smotherman (porthose)
Peter,

You should really update the existing package in Karmic.

https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kflickr

I would suggest following this guide to update the package

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Recipes/PackageUpdate

And then follow this guide to have your update sponsored into Ubuntu

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SponsorshipProcess

Best regards
Charlie

[Bug 107545] Re: CPU Scaling too aggressive

2009-06-08 Thread Magnes
I noticed that up_threshold on my computer was 95 (is it default) which
caused HD movies to play like on slow computer. I changed it to 60 to
correct the problem. Maybe 95 is to high for a default value in
ondemand?

It looks like it.

You should be able to work around the issue for now by changing the file
extension when creating the gallery in Totem.
